Slow Internet Performance

Searched the forum, but didn't see a similar issue to mine.
Phone: T-Mobile N1
Stock, not-rooted, FRF91
Got the phone about 3-4 weeks ago, and it was rock solid up until 3-4 hours ago.
Since then the internet has been super crappy. Thats odd considering I've run speedtests in this same location that average about 3.1 Mb down, and I'm also at 4 bars of 3G.
Texting seems to work fine, though sending messages is also taking longer than normal.
Rebooted the phone several times, took the battery out a couple times. I'm fairly sure its not T-Mobile, since other people near me aren't having problems.
Any thoughts?

Nah it wasn't that, I barely break over a gig a month. It seems something was up with the cell tower. Once I left work, everything was fine. Though it was weird no one else seemed to be having issues.
Problem solved lol.

Dude I'm getting the exact same issue over here in Moreno valley California! Wtf. I guess their testing stuff out things with the hspda + to make it official ... I went form 3mb to 512kbps

At some points I couldn't pull any data. Tested -0 in dl/ul on the Speedtest App, lol,

I've been getting the same problem in nj just outside nyc. I used to get pretty fast 3g but two weeks ago it really slowed down.

It doesn't sound like a phone problem, more like carrier problem.

I am also having this same problem. Live in suburb of Boston and we are just about ready to turn on the HSPA+ network from T-Mobile. I figured this was due to all the work on the local towers in my area. Come on T-Mobile please just flip the switch.

3g service issues in my area!

Ok so for some reason lately my 3g service seems to be really really slow or not working at all. Gives error when going to the market or using the web.says no service accessible.please try again. What the hell is going on? I live in the renton/kent Washington area. And no I have not reached 5gb cap yet.my month just started. Some times it works and gives me up to 4mb to 6mb speeds if I go to a friends house. But wont work 90% of the time in my area. Use to work great. But now it sucks balls! Thanks for any ideas!

If you have had good 3g up until now, call TMo. If it is not a currently known service issue, have them open a service ticket. They did it for me (although edge was working) and I was back in business in about 4 days, and they even called me back to make sure everything was cool.

Yea already called them.told me I should upgrade to the Myslide 4g. Lol I just got the Vibrant. Also told me it should be working fine.made a trouble ticket but that was last week.still having major issues with 3g service. Stupid thing is they told me if I added the $15 extra tethering plain.my 3g would be faster.what a load of crap! Lol

you're not alone, my 3g is gone too though i have a good reception here in my place in the past.

Just ran the Speedtest.net App and only got 0.15kb download speed but got 1.75mg upload speed. That doesn't seem right to me!

what rom are you running?

i think the vibrant has weak reception in general, mine is always switching between 3g and edge everywhere where my tp2 could hold a 3g connection and sometimes my vibrant will search for a signal where my tp2 would have at least edge.
also the wifi bars will go to 1 or 0 on the vibrant when i am one room over from my router but my tp2 and bb bold will have full bars.
maybe this is caused by the battery saving algorithm?

happened to me the other day in myrtle beach for like 15 minutes i had like crappy 100 kbps download and like 2 mbits upload.
i think some ****er is just hogging all the bandwidth from the tower you are on.
sorry if we cant cuss im new.

Running just the offical ROM with JI6 update. Also Rooted. Starting to get pissed off here.plus GPS is non working taking like 10mins to even find me.and its jumping all over the place on google maps! WTF!! ;(

I came from the G1 and I noticed the Vibrant doesn't get nearly as good of reception. It was a pretty rare thing to ever be on anything but 3G with the G1 but the Vibrant spends quite a bit of time on Edge. Same locations...
For what it is worth the JK2 modem has given me the best overall performance/battery life. Could be worth a try putting a JK2 ROM on there if you haven't already. But yeah the Vibrant overall doesn't get as good of signal as some other phones.

I've been having reception issues since T-mobile announced Louisvile was live with 4G. getting similar errors saying no service accessible.please try again. or it will just say network error.

Ok so I just installed the lag fix from the market and I got to say wow. Phone is lighting fast and gps seems to be better and 3g. Almost like a new device! Crazy

Yeah all same here. 3g issues for 3 days now, speed test was 67 kbs. Usually 4000 + Idk what's happening but its good to know I'm not alone. This is pissing me off.

Yea ran new speedtest and got like 1.12mg but probably would be faster if the weather wasn't so crappy outside 60 mph winds!

Ok just ran the speedtest app again and got 1.98mg download and 2.65mg upload speeds.so seems faster with the lag fix. And gps seems to work better too.

Also got Quadrant Standard score of 2096 instead of the normal 890! Wow what a difference!

It won't work that well around the area of Kent, East Hill area.
I am experiencing the same matter as you, and live in about the same area.
From my observation, general east hill area has bad 3G,data packet connection.

I've been having the same problems as u guys. I live in philly, and 3g had always been pretty good. I called tmo and got to upper level tech support, and they said out might be a network merging issue (whatever the hell that is). So, I starting playing around with the settings and I found a short term fix for me. Do this only if u know u have 3g signal, go to wireless and network, then network mode and click wcdma. if u go into edge area u will lose signal completely.

3g data speed sux.

Is anyone else experiencing slow 3g speeds? Iam talking about speeds like 15-70kbps down. Ever since two weeks ago the data speed here in Wisconsin is so slow its retarded. Just wondering if this is happening elsewhere.
Yes I've tried different roms, kernnel, and phones. Pri,prl,radios are all up to dated also.

No issue noticed in Michigan.
I would call *2 and let them know your issue and they can check if there's any outages.

yes I tried. They hung up on me once and I got disconnected a few times after that. So I went in to the sprint store and ask, they said that their 4g is down and everyone on 4g is pushed over to the 3g network so that's why its slows. But it sounded like BS, cause Theres no 4g hete in Wisconsin

I'm gonna change my comment I just ran a speed test and it went to the 2g icon for the first time in a long long time.

Just 1 time I got 2.0 mbps at 6am lol after that 0.80 mbps or 0.50 my friend t-mobile speed test 4.00mbps n up smh

if that's the case then it might just be the Milwaukee area that's effected or is it all big cities that's effected

I was on Chicago I did a speed test on 4g n I got 5.10 mbps super nice drive back to Wisconsin .80 mbps lol smh

I been having 3G issues all day too here in Delaware, but strangely 4G has been working flawless for me

I'm by the Michigan Ohio border, and I have had this problem for over 2 months now. At home and where I work, I'm less than a block from a tower at both locations, and used to get about 2000kbps down and 1500kbps up consistantly. About 2 months ago, it got horrible. On average, I get around 40kbps down and 10kpbs up. Sometimes it doesnt work at all. This happens anywhere I go. But, once in a while I would get normal speeds, usually only early in the morning, then the rest of the day/night it would be bad again.
After spending hours on the phone with sprint, refreshing the network, and doing 2 factory resets, they decided it was a hardware problem. I took the phone in, they agreed, and gave me a brand new evo. For a few days, it worked better, not as good as it was, but better at least. Then a few days later it got worse again.
I have since done 3 factory resets, had engineers from sprint come out, and they say everythings fine. Whats weird, the other day I was at a friends house, who only gets verizon signal at his house. While roaming on the verizon towers, I got normal speeds again, around 1800kbps down. So obviously there isnt a problem with the phone again, as the 3g seems to work fine there. I have been calling sprint every few days, and they have no clue whats going on, they say nobody else in the area has called in about this.
I'm giving this another month, and then I'm permanently leaving sprint. Data is the main thing I use my phone for, and I cant load webpages or stream pandora.
Sorry for the long rant haha but I thought I would let you know I'm having the same problem.

me and my gf's epic are having HORRIBLE 3g speeds..100-200 kbps...I used to have ~800..its been like that for around 2 weeks now...last saturday i went to la puente california and speeds out there were ok..~600kbps...but where i live and where I work..3g speeds are pure crap...

No problems here in Sacramento, getting 100-140KBps d/l, 100KBps u/l.

Ok for the past 7 days me been getting slow speeds like rev o my ups wont go over 150kb and down wont go higher then 1mps no more use to get like 2.4mps stable then i heard from sprint engeniers that there gonna realease ev do rev b and wimax wave 2 on new years or on jan 6 when dan heeae anccounce it and that y 3g been caps atm

I dont get it.. whats up with my data speeds?

My data speeds have gotten slower and slower over the past couple of months. I cant even stream a youtube video without it buffering to hell. WTF SPRINT! I know I cant be getting throttled hell my billing cycle just started.

My speeds go up and down.. Some days thier fast and smooth and some days their just slow and laggy. I dont get it...

Yeah I have the same slowdown for my data speed as well. First I thought it was just me and all my flashing addiction but after seeing this glad I'm not the only one who noticed it.

I noticed this over the last week.

Have you paid attention to what time of day data speed slows down? Could be just the network being overloaded in your area. For example I start work at 7am and if I run a SpeedTest during 6:50a-8ish I am in the 700-800kb range in my office. If I run the same test after 10a I see anywhere from 200-500kbs. The worst is near lunch hour and after 3pm....damn kids! lol

Mines has gotten terrible no matter what time - and I check at the dead of night most of the time. Used to get 1.5-2 Mbps, down to .5-1 Mbps now-a-days.

.1-.4 mbps up and down all day and nite, from. .8-1.2 up and down.

This is what happens when carriers keep adding subscribers, but are unable to keep their backhaul data pipes expanding. They need subscribers in order to build infrastructure, so we the consumer suffer in the meantime.

I also have to imagine that Android being Sprint's biggest smart OS doesn't help. WinMo/BB just kind of idles when it.. idles. Android on the other hand is built to have constant background data updating, now add a bunch of both old and new subscribers who don't know better and leave the short default polling of their thousand and one apps, and you got a scaling problem.

Its quite annoying. Forget trying to stream anything its pointless lol. There was a point where I could watch netflix with no buffer, now it takes it like 20 minutes just to get to the point where itll actually play. I dont even use it much anymore because as soon as it finally plays the buffer will kick right back in. DAMN I really dont want to have to get this AT&T DSL garbage.

Same issue with me in Wisconsin.
Had 2 friends standing next to me, 1 Verizon 1 AT&T...They both passed the 2mb mark while I chugged along at 350ish k
I used to get awesome service outside Milwaukee but now it seems like complete crap

I called sprint today about the slow data issue, I'm in green bay wi. She told Mr that a lot of people on Wisconsin have been complaining about slow data speeds. Something about waiting to get approval to add something to their towers to speed up data. Who knows it sounds fishy to me, thank God I have roam control to get better speed off Verizon's towers.

Please enlighten me as to how to do this. Im in Menomonee Falls and 99% of the time my speeds are sub par to say the least.

Me and 4 other EVO owners have noticed this in the Phoenix area :-(

Are they all rooted?

I used to get about 1.5mb now I only get about .5mb. Something has to be going on here It just don't seem right.

I noticed my 3g going to crap over the past month because I stream Pandora all day. Plus just looking at the bars I could tell the signal was not as good (I haven't run any speed tests).
Discovered today however that my 4g now rocks! I'll be using 4g as often as possible now. I didn't notice a big difference in battery drain because while 3g struggled, 4g flew, so I think that evened out.
This is my subjective opinion of course.

Same here, I work in downtown Phoenix and it's POINTLESS trying to stream anything over 64k quality after 2pm. I thought it was Pandora sucking, so I switched to shoutcast on Xiialive, same thing. In the morning it's fine for the most part, but once all the kids get home from school the entire network goes to crap. I don't care about 4g, I just want decent 3g... oh yeah, my speeds are .6mbs in the evening and at the slowest i'm pushing .09mbs per speedtest.net app.

3G a bit slow lately?

Anybody notice 3G to be a bit slow lately? I used speed test awhile back and got 1.5mbps, now I get half that! Not cool.

Fluctuation in speed will happen. Try it again in a hour and see what you get. Did you run the speed tests in the same location.

I've been seeing more and more of these threads popup. Something is up.

My 3G speeds were bad all of Dec. now they're good.

Didn't mean to add another thread. Was going I wasn't alone on this. I've gone through 3 different roms and a slew of kernels thinking it was them. Bummer.

Wow! That's actually what I was seeing earlier. Don't know what's going on cause soon as I made my post that I was getting 1.2mbps, it dropped to nearly nothing. Smh..

Same thing is happening to me.

Like I said something is up. Sprint data used to be the best in NYC. Man, I also wish that they upgraded to Rev. B for the next flagship phone. I know, wishful thinking but Id prefer that over WiMax for everyday use

Check your mobile internet settings. I just flashed cm7 and it has a couple of new selections...like international roaming, which was preselected. Also, it was preselected to roam on national affiliate networks. Since a lot of these roms are from people "across the pond" as they say, it will default to their servers. So, de-select those options and it will find a server closer to where you live. It is pretty kewl as it does switch to another network, but it is only 1rt speed, not 3G, so it didn't make my connection any faster. There are several threads out there on this about slow 3G speeds. I can only hope that with the 4G coming online, maybe the spectrum will open up to allow faster 3G speeds.

Lol glad im not the only 1 seeing this.. I was testing my connection in Germany yesterday LOL...
Tho even swapped back to the closest server (Germantown WI) , my speed still sucked..So I called sprint when I got home and told him my results compared to an ATT and Verizon phones while they were right next to me, and they were 6-7x faster then mine.
The CSR told me that its possible with northern Ill. getting 4G its working its way north into Wisconsin,and that could be affecting towers here while they transition..
Frankly I dont buy it. 2-3 weeks ago it was great, since then, 360kb is common. Also in the phone call I told him that I have no issues paying the $10 premium data charge, but if my phone keeps chugging along as it is now, I will be calling back since there is no way in hell I can take advantage of this "premium data" when I cant even watch a video on YouTube without constant pauses and other downloads basically crawling along.

I chatted with a rep last night and they gave me the whole "there are no issues" song and dance. Clearly with so many people noticing this in so many different areas there is SOMETHING wrong with Sprints network. Either that or theyre throttling their speeds thinking people wont notice.

The csr i spoke to said he was going to push something thru to my phone and I should reboot it..which I did..
I see somewhat of an improvement at home (I THINK theres a relay on the watertower near my house but im not sure) and its now about 1.4mb down...Tho most of my issues are when im away from home and not near WiFi lol
I really hope Sprint isnt pulling a ninja throttle job on us to ease up the network for all the new subs
