[Q] Change Gmail Password - Atrix 4G General

I was forced to change my password today due to 30 day timing on the email password.
So where in the Atrix do I change the gmail password? I tried, accounts, gmail but there is no password box/option in there.
Any ideas?

I'm not understanding: GMAIL doesn't force you to change passwords at thirty days.

Well I work for the largest company in the world that uses Gmail as it's email system. Therefore gmail has corporate requirements of password changes.
Not no matter that I need to change the password on my phone and I cannot find out where to do it. Any help?

Delete the account, and add it back up. Problem solved

"Therefore gmail has corporate requirements of password changes."
I understand now, but I think you mean "our corporate IP has requirements of password changes". GMAIL is incidental, their email policy probably applies to all email.
I poked around and saw no way to change passwords, that's odd. Before you try diablo's solution...Try changing the password, then accessing the account with the phone. It MIGHT be one of those invisible Google things, if the password is rejected I would expect the phone to ask you to confirm/re-enter the password. The same way that a lot of email clients do, when they get a "password rejected" messager from a mail server.
Or...ask the whiz kids in corporate IT.<G> I always figured if they're that concerned with security, they should ante up and buy RSA fobs for everyone. THAT's almost security. Passwords? Is it under your mouse pad, or your keyboard?<VBG>

if you use the actual gmail app on the phone, it should ask at some point when it tries to check.

Found this from some other forum:
I needed to change my gmail password for security reasons, but I knew this would mess with the G1 account too, since they use the same login info. I searched for a way to change/update the password on the phone and couldn't find it. So, on a whim I went to google.com/accounts on the browser, signed in, then clicked on "Change Password". After changing it successfully, I went back to the Home Screen on the phone, opened the GMail app, clicked on Menu, then Refresh. I got a sync error, but the notification gives an option to re-enter your password. I entered the new password, and voila, it worked.
Even the reasoning for this is pretty convincing:
i think they designed it like this so if you got your phone "stolen/lost" you HAVE a way to change your password via online rather than you phone cause obvious your phone is stolen/lost =D

I did this on my friends captivate and it worked. However there is no popup for a failed sync that allows you to update the password on the Atrix.
This is insane. Why would I be forced to delete an account and add bak to change a password.

Something is not right.
Look in ur 'status bar' or in the pull down notifications screen.
Are u sure sync ran? Try sending a test mail from a different account to this and see if it retrieves it properly. Reboot phone n see if the sync was using a cached connection.

This is insane. I tried synching in accounts and in gmail app as well. It fails but no option to reenter the password. Even google talk fails but only a retry option or a cancel option.
Since this is my master account I have to factory reset.
This just can't be right.

Wait. Try going to settings --> applications, and clear data for gmail, gmail storage, etc n see if that works.

I read horror stories about this but when I changed my password I was prompted. I forced a gmail sync which failed and it put an exclaimation mark in the notification bar which I dragged down and clicked. Prompted for a new password and then I was good to go. This was on a phone with Sense and 2.2
Only thing I would worry is if moto screwed it up but I doubt it.

Nope that didn't work either...
AT&T Can't figure it out
Motorola Andriod Level 1,2 & 3 can't figure it out
This is absolutely insane that you cannot change a gmail password. Can anyone else try it? You can always change yours back...I can't since I cannot reuse passwords for 180 days.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to return the phone since I love it but I can't go through this every 30 days!

It worked fine for me. Got the little exclamation point notification, clicked, and entered my new password. Are you not getting that? Could it be some setting on your company's side? When you try and refresh your gmail app, does it just do nothing?

I have tried to sync in both the gmail app and sync in the accounts area in settings. Nothing really happens and definitely no notifications of failure in the app. When I try to sync in settings>accounts I get the following: Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." That is next to a sync logo with the red exclamation point in it. That notification appears in the window at the bottom and not in the notification bar.
When I have cell access again I will change my personal gmail account and see if I get a notification.

Ok so a bit more movement on the topic. I do get the notification that asks for the new password on my personal gmail account. I do not get that notification for the corporate gmail account.
Any ideas now?

Well it is working now. Did a factory reset, setup account again. It was working, changed my corporate gmail password and this time on t he phone I got the notification.
Only difference was that I did not have it rooted at the time. Hopefully it doesn't happen again!

Gmail Password Problem

Hey guys!
A friend of mine bought a HD2 today and is currently trying to setup his gmail account with the automatic settings.. bad thing is that it always asks him for the password! De checked the box to save password but it still asks for it..
any suggestions?
You have to enter the email address in full not just the start, for example
[email protected]
tried everything! he also tried my settings, username and password! on my device it works like a charm but on his.. no chance.. no idea
Try typing the password on a place where it appears in clear (like the username box) to see if some letters wouldn't be swapped because of keyboard layout weirdness or such...
We also tried it on PC via MyMobiler but didnt work! The password is 100% correct..
is it a googlemail or gmail account?
i have the same problem on CleanEX ROM 2.01.
The built-in gmail option always worked perfect for me until today. Something happened yesterday that prevented phone from booting, so had to hard reset it. Reinstalled my normal apps, and now trying to set up gmail again and it keeps asking for passwords for both accounts. The passwords I'm typing are 100% correct, absolutely no doubt as to validity or typing correctly.
Edit: got home from work, and it's working fine now. didn't even have to enter in the passwords again. Not sure what the issue is/was, perhaps gmail issue?
same issue after a hard reset still asks my password.. noticed that in account setting option it automatically creates a long password (encrypted so I 'm not able to see what is it) and if I insert mine seems it doesn't recognize it... back in account settings I find again that long password..
EDIT: to solve I deleted the email account from device, then I removed email tab from those thare visualized... soft reset... re-visualized the email tab and then re-create my account ( I mean with the old data)
maybe it's the browser? if u r using opera, go to the settings/advanced and see if "allow cookies" is disabled. Mine is enabled and I get right thru
I get this too every now and then (happened today). It always sorts itself out in the end though. Give it some time and try again.
The problem with google.... This happened to me as well about 2 weeks ago but only on one of my accounts. I could log in the web service but not through my phone or outlook. I went in the web way and changed my email setting to forward all mail to another account then after a few days all was well again.

HD2softreset and email settings

So I ran HD2softreset, and for some strange reason now when I go into email all the previous accounts are gone, but when I try to set them up again I get a "The account name entered is already assigned to another account. Enter a unique account name and try again" message even though there is no account visible with that name in account selector when you first enter email..
The accounts don't appear after accessing the options tab either.
Is there an email cache or something I should flush? Thanks.
Not sure what that app actually does. I know if I do a soft reset by pulling the battery I lose my email settings too. They are still there I just have to edit them and add the pop(inbox) and smtp(outbox) addresses back and everything is fine. If I use the red button they don't disappear.
I couldn't figure out how to fix it in the end, so I just ended up taking the oppurtunity to flash to a new ROM.

Randomly Require Password

Ok, so today I was sitting in the library on campus minding my own business listening to music on my DVP and when I go to check something it randomly says something on the order of "Security settings have changed, make a new password"
My problem is I never had a password on the phone, never set it up to do so. Needless to say, it FORCED me to create a password and won't let me turn it off in the lock&wallpaper settings menu. I'll sync it when I get home to see if that fixes it, anyone else having a similar issue?
Do you have your phone set to sync with an Exchange account? As the administrator could have set it to now require a password on devices.
Thanks for the reply, I haven't ever had it synced to an exchange account. I really don't know what happened, also I noticed that instead of having the option to let my screen timeout be 3 minutes, etc... I only have the option for 30 seconds or 1 minute. No "slider" bar to allow me to turn off the password either. Really confusing.
Ok so I figured out why it's doing this, somehow my school's e-mail randomly decided my phone needed a password. As soon as I deleted this account I no longer needed the password. Really annoying I wonder if there's a way I can change this.

Your school email must be an Exchange account. Any email service that syncs over Exchange ActiveSyc is looked at as an Exchange Account by your phone. They get the power to do stuff like require passwords on the device.

yeah, an EDU mail account is back ended by exchange

Makes sense, Just weird how it hasn't done this for 3 months on my DVP and then all the sudden it decides to, never did that on my android for years either. I was messing with outlook the other day and maybe I triggered something? I don't know.
And my school uses Gmail btw.

Sorry, but I have to point out that not every EDU account equates to an Exchange back end. The two have no causal relationship whatsoever. Some schools do use Exchange, but many do not.

If your school uses GMail, they are actually using a variety on Google's corporate email hosting, which now supports policy push to Windows Mobile (and other, including Android, devices). It would seem they turned it on recently, or are testing it out, and you got hit with a policy.

[Q] Android, 2 step verification and the lockscreen

I'm thinking of buying this phone and it will be my first Android phone ever.
When you first set up an Android phone it asks you to sign into your Gmail, all well and good, I have a Gmail and have it protected with 2 step verification.
Now normally on any other device/client you would set up an 'application specific password' which I assume will work aOK in for setting up your Android phone.
But as I understand if you have a lockscreen passcode/pattern lock, if you forget the code/pattern you are asked sign in with your Gmail account password to unlock the phone. This is where it confuses me, you would not normally write down an application specific so if you signed into your phone with one that wouldn't work, or does it work if you use your normal 'non specific' Gmail password?
I have also looked and found this video (watch?v=Mu9xflbwMKw can't post links) which says when you are asked to sign in to Gmail you have a 'menu/settings' option which allows you to sign in with a web interface therefore using a one time use code they send you, which then I assume if you forget your lockscreen code/pattern, you would just sign in with your normal Gmail password.
So if you have 2 step verification do you sign in with your normal password with the 'web login' or do you use a one time use password? and what are the implications for a forgotten lockscreen code/pattern?
I would say the worst case scenario is you have to go create a new one-time password on your computer, just to unlock.
AFAIK you'll have to use your Application-specific password.
Just tried it and it did take my password just fine, however it did "deauthorize" the device, so i had to login once more to make the device sync again.

That's fantastic news, I'll just log in with an application specific password knowing that I can reset it with the normal password, I've never (touch wood) forgotten a lockscreen passcode but it's better to be safe than sorry.
Thanks guys :good:

That doesn't have anything to do with what we are discussing here. And is 2-step prevented your dad from logging into Gmail, then you're using it wrong.
I've been using 2-step authentication for over two years now, and my wife over a year, on all our computers and phones. Works perfectly.

yes it works everywhere. but it didn't when you want to enter your Gmail after you did a reset on your phone, strangely
That's what the one-time passwords are for. You can't use the 2-step code check with the accounts system on Android. So you create a one-time password, following the directions Google gave you when you turned 2-step on.

TIP: Adding Exchange/Hotmail support to GMail

If anyone is interested, the Exchange service on the G4 (at least the T-Mobile version) can be disabled via the apps menu and Google Exchange services can be installed.
This will allow you to use the GMail app with Exchange enabled hosts, like Hotmail/Outlook.com and retain push mail, contact and calendar sync.
Recommended steps:
If you have any accounts using email and exchange, remove them first.
Open Settings/General/Apps/All
Tap on Exchange (The LG one with the blue icon)
Force stop
Disable the Exchange Service
(Restarting your phone is recommended at this point)
Install Google Exchange Services
(Restarting your phone is recommended at this point as well)
Open GMail and you will have Exchange as an option when you add an account.
This is gold to me.
Thanks.
sweet thx!
edit: oops that didn't work for me it gets stuck constantly sync'ing and has some exchange service crashes hmm...
Works fine here so far. I just wish you could disable the remote administration requiring your device to use a PIN. I'd love to use Smart Lock.

It's important that you remove any old exchange accounts in email first, then force close the LG exchange service and disable it. If you don't disable it, then GMail will get stuck syncing.

Just waiting on root so I can keep my damn unlock screen without having to put in an 8 character password with numbers and special characters every time I want to unlock my phone.
I might just bite the bullet and buy touchdown for $20 because I heard it doesn't need to apply the permissions to your whole phone but just the app.

This. I have used Smart Lock on my N5 with no problems even though we are required to have a PIN. Fired up the G4 and immediately noticed once I setup email Smart Lock was grey and can't be used. I thought that by switching to Gmail for my Exchange email I could get around that only to find Gmail doesn't have Exchange support on this phone (until I found this thread).
Has anyone that has followed the instructions at the top been able to get Smart Lock working when Gmail is used for Exchange email? Or does Touchdown get around this?
I am going to test this out tonight - can't goof around too much while on the job!!

Outlook bypasses the security requirement, but it appears to only sync email, not calendars or contacts. You get prompted that Exchange wants you to accept these changes, but you have an option to deny them.

I'll have to look at that new outlook app closer then. It prompted me for the security permissions to wipe phone, pin, and all that crap so I exited out.
Touchdown is supposed to be all one contained environment so I don't think it syncs with the default apps. I could be wrong as I have never tried it since I always got a PIN bypasser working on my old phones. It is free for a month so try it out! I don't care about contacts and it would be nice to have calendar but I'm not heartbroken over it. What I would like to know is if you still get a notification of new mail. I would assume so but aren't allowed to preview it which is fine but I at least need to know I have mail.

Yeah that request seems to be standard whenever you setup Outlook, regardless of app. It was when it came to the lock screen settings, it allowed me to dismiss it.
I just tried the Outlook app and it required far less permissions then adding an exchange email through the android/lg settings. The regular settings wanted pretty much everything. Wipe, disable camera, password type, password length, password expiration, encrypt phone, disable sd card, etc etc. It had everything and probably because my company just checked everything. Now the question is if it would really do any of those things probably not because that it a further settings in Exchange but it just wants to be able to do all that.
The Outlook just wanted password rules, unlock attempts, lock screen, and encrypt phone. It asked to encrypt and I said no and phone still works. I was able to keep pattern lock screen but it disabled everything else besides pin and password. The Outlook app does not integrate well with Android so everything is contained in it's own app. I don't think it does notifications either since I sent an email and waited a good 10 minutes. My phone never went off but I open the app the email shows up but never as a notification.
So maybe the Outlook app will get you by for the time being.
Hrm - I'm on an LG G4 (EU H815 model, unlocked). No Google Exchange Services visible or available in the Play Store ...
I also have an old Galaxy S3 running 5.1.1 (PacMan rom) - that has Gmail with Exchange working just fine. It has the same version of Gmail as on the G4, but also has "Exchange Services" running. I can't find any other information on that though.
[EDIT] I just checked the link in the OP which looks like the latest apk, but the button for Play Store doesn't work - URL doesn't exist.
Quick question - I haven't disabled LG Exchange on the G4 yet - when I do it says that the app will be hidden from then on. What if one wants to re-enable it - will it still be visible on the Apps menu ?
TIA

Yes, just go to your apps in settings and it will be under 'disabled'.

Have you been able to figure this out? I have coworkers on a N6, N5, and a HTC One (M7), who all have our Corporate E-mail linked to their phone via either gmail or the htc e-mail app. They can all access their respective Smart Lock settings. On my phone, its grayed out.
Confused on what this does? Just lets you add a second exchange account to gmail? Are emails mixed together or do they remain separated? I like having my Email and Gmail in 2 different apps. I also like the LG email app.
