Yea the different processors, wireless chip, the only thing really compatible is the camera, SD card, and screen. I'm not 100% on the screen.

alright, thats all i needed, i really want gingerbread on my droid 2

Trust me me 2. Follow p3droid on twitter. He has something 2.3 related that he is planning to release however i am unsure whether it is for d2 or dx.
I have an at&t liberty(aria) which i use as an podcast player. No service and am running rc1 of cm7 and its sweet especially using the built in sip dialing. If it runs that well on that extremely limited piece lf hardware then the d2 will fly.

Even if it is for the DX, I am sure there will be port like some of the current DX roms out now.

Eris user coming to Droid2

Hey guys, the fun with my Eris was fun while it lasted despite the bugs. slowness, freezes, trackball stopped working etc. Plus i really missed having a physical keyboard. So I ended up falling and cracking my Eris screen which really pissed me off. I called verizon cancelation department multiple times threatening to go to sprint and get the HTC Evo for 200 bucks from raido shack, it took 3 seperate calls and 2 different supervisors and finally they gave the option of any android phone they have available at the new customer rate (so DroidX, Droid2, Droid Incredible0 for 199.99 minus 100. So I went with the the Droid2 not realizing its not rooted yet, and doesnt look like it will be easily rooted. So should I keep the Droid2 which i REALLY want cause of the the physical keyboard and Froyo2.2 that isnt hacked together like it is on the Eris, and real Flash 10.1, or should i cancel and go with the DroidX. My guess is the Droid2 will be rooted and we will be able to put custom roms on soon, is this true or just a pipe dream.
Any real decent well thought out feedback would be appreciated.
droid x may be rooted but it dosen't have custom roms yet...
Well I got my Droid2 via FedEx today and I really don't care that the phone isn't rooted, this phone frickin' rocks.
Agreed. I had to exchange my LG Ally out to something faster. And I am glad I did go to the Droid 2. Its really fast.
I just upgraded my eris to a droid 2 and the droid 2 is incredible!!!
I've used the droid x a few times and the droid incredible a few more times and the droid 2 just blows them out of the water!
Also I love the new keyboard and if you use launcher-pro (with the new update) the phone feels even faster+ you still get the cool ninja-blur widgets without the annoying launcher.
it's just an awesome phone.
I don't want to be a party pooper but I was tired of the buggy Eris as well. I rooted, installed a fantastic froyo rom, and am completely satisfied now. Fast, stable and badass! I wouldn't say no if someone gave me a Droid X/2 but I certainly will not be pushing for one.

Well Veri$on is sending me a Droid2 because I have had 4....let me count them...1...2...3..4....phones. (I wanted a Droid X but no dice)
I have been reading about how to root and install Bootstrap Recovery. Can someone guide me to a FAQ and suggest a good ROM? I know that the Droid2 comes with Froyo 2.2, and I read that there is a 2.3 update for the Droid X. Is there one for the D2?
I have rooted my old Eris but it seems to me that the D2 is a little bit complicated.
Thanks!

P3's on the cutting edge of this stuff, besides being a premier dev for the DX. He'll get there. On another note (probably should be in another thread), this will be my absolute last bootloader locked device. Htc will get my business going forward, if moto doesn't amend their ways.

I had an Incredible for awhile. I liked it but the screen was too small and the battery didn't last long enough. The radio seemed pretty close the X, maybe a bit worse.

I had the x6800 and the TouchPro 2, and I think I may have had one replaced once... A guy I worked with at the time had his replaced several times, but that's just because he was an idiot and kept dropping it. I hated WinMo, but the devices themselves were pretty solid. But I agree with previous posters, I'm not getting another device with a locked bootloader. Not sure if it'll be an HTC phone or what, but probably not Motorola (though granted, my phone is SO much nicer now that I'm running Liberty 1.5...)

Yes, once the X2 gets an upgraded screen-locked bootloader I assume though - it will still be nice. The 22% larger screen that iPhone really makes a big difference. Looking at 3.5" screens reminds me of when digital cameras first came out and touted 1" LCD screens......

LOL Wish me luck explaining this to my friend! He is one of those that can't really tell the difference. He saw a video on YouTube where someone claims it's Gingerbread on Droid X but I knew too well that it's 2.2 with a GB theme. He won't understand this and just say, your EVO has Gingerbread, I want it on mine phone too. LOL Oh well...
On that note, what is the best 2.2 ROM for the Droid X?
Yeah... no 2.3 yet. P3Droid is close, but he hasn't been able to root his build yet, so we don't have anything. We've got themes and things ported like the keyboard but no official builds.
There's a pretty decent selection of DX roms, but they're quite similar. The overwhelmingly popular one right now is Liberty 1.5. The toolbox would be perfect for your friend as it allows themes and mods to be done really simply, as it's all GUI based. I've been running it since its release. I'd encourage you to check it out.

Droid X running CM7 through 2nd init

http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?283-Video-CM4DX-Installed-and-Running
CM7 is right around the corner, folks.
This is very exciting news! When did work on this CM7 port begin?
thats for the droid x, and still needs alotta work , we need a dev to work on the full time and make similar progress
I know, but it's progress on a Motorola device
I'm not sure why people have the idea that if something works on one phone from the same manufacturer that it will work on them all. The Droid x shares nothing at all with the atrix. Ones opmap the other tegra2, nothing at all is shared other then the sticker.

From what I understand, the trick is porting CM7 so that it works on the Atrix's stock kernel. I imagine that's not a trivial undertaking.

Doesn't the Atrix use the same kernel as the Defy (2.6.39) - which also has a locked bootloader, but is running a fully functional (and to be soon officially supported) of CM7?

It may be running the same kernel version but there are surely differences in the kernel itself between the two devices. They have totally different hardware and need different modules at the least.
I'll admit I'm off into supposition territory as I haven't compiled a Linux kernel in years, and then only for my old P4, but I would think it would be the same/similar for our phones.

My point is that both of those other phones are able to run GB 2.3.4 on top of a locked down 2.2 via 2nd init which is now available for the Atrix.
It is no longer a matter of the Atrix not being able to run a full blown rom like CM7, but rather a matter of not having the developer support to make the port itself, don't you think?

JB for Droid X?

Hello guys.
I saw on the front page that someone had ported Jellybean to the X2. My question is, do you think some talented developer could port JB to the original X? JB on the X would be amazing and it doesn't seem that hard to do considering its already on the X2! I know they have different CPUs and GPUs, but would it be that hard to do?
Thanks,

C'mon guys, this would be awesome!
xx13thangelxx commented about this on RootzWiki. He said he owns both devices, and a simple port wouldn't work. Hardware is way different. DX is single core omap, while DX2 is dual tegra2, a simple port just won't work. If someone were to get it up and running on a Droid 2, which has the same hardware basically as the DX, a port would be feasible.
Ah but they have! It's for the Milestone 2 which is the GSM version of the D2.

Most new development and a lot of old development has ceased on the Droid X as many devs have moved on to bigger and better things (mostly shinier toys). Unfortunately I don't think our kernel can support a lot of the functions and to be honest, even if we came up with a 2nd Init JB for our DX, it would be even worse on battery life than the various ICS builds due to the fact that we cannot run custom kernels and the like to actually empower the hardware we have.
As far as JB goes, there's not a lot of real difference between it and ICS except a few different APIs and a bit of polishing as far as I'm aware, but again, we can't see the true benefit of these changes without a proper kernel and modules due to the locked down bootloaders forced upon us.
Unfortunately I'll also agree that most devs have moved on to other projects/devices. It's the nature of having to deal with a locked device and the fact that it's now been over 2 years since the DX was released. As a former DX owner, the SGS3 came out right as my contract was up so it made since to go to the next awesome thing.
I think p3droid and crew went to the bionic pretty early after it came out. I haven't really kept up with that bunch since they stopped releasing things for the DX. Also, cvcps is now the maintainer for the Cm10 builds of the SGS3.
When there was the big to do over the using of kexec to get around the kernel limitations I checked to see if someone would pick that up on the DX. Turns out that someone had, but the project was abandoned due to the difficulty of creating the various drivers needed. I had really hoped that the project would succeed so that my old DX would be useful into the future. However, it's now just a voip phone in my house.

There are still a few devs out here keeping up the DX's development. Nightly builds of CM7 for the DX are still being released almost daily. I know Wizard0f0s will be releasing an updated verison of his MIUI build any day now. CM9 builds periodically also seem to be leaking out. I wouldnt' be surprised to see a CM10 port from the Droid 2's alpha build making its way to the DX in the next few months. Not all hope is lost Give it time.
I'm happy with Gummy 1.20. Really it's too bad they killed it. Best ROM for the DX imo.

I second this!
From what I understand, Droid 2 ROM's work well on the Droid X with minimal re-configuration.
So please, please help the many users who are still holding on to their beloved Droid X's!
I purchased a Droid X and a 3800mah battery (china-style, but works great, 2+ days of battery life) for a total of 68 bucks from ebay a few months ago, and now I have Page Plus for 30 dollars a month (this and other phones work with no modding on their network).
Porting this ROM to the X would make my "just-like-verizon-but-way-cheaper" experience complete! THANK YOU SO MUCH AHEAD OF TIME. I WILL DONATE!!!
Lol give it some time. Like I said the dev is planning to move it over.to the X.

In the mean time gummy 1.20 has been updated to include HWA. It was tweeted out about a month ago by 13th angel.
I'm running it now and am very happy with the HWA upgrade. Battery life takes a bit of a hit but you can recover it with pimp my rom.
The Milestone 2 has received a JB port so it's now feasible to think that this could be installed on an DX. One problem though, the M2 is a GSM phone while the DX is a CDMA one. Is it easy to change it from wanting a GSM radio to using a CDMA one? Here's the link if anyone is interested.
