It's an issue with the Yahoo Mail app and not the XOOM (or any other specific device)
I don't like to tell people what they should be using but why does anyone still use Yahoo mail? It is nothing but a SPAM magnet. And if you are using Android, you will have a much better experience using gmail. Just my opinion.
Yahoo was my first mail provider.Now it is just a secondary mail address, I think my fourth. But it still has some subscriptions on it.

Abandon it! Just let go...I was in your shoes 2 years ago with my first android and I never looked back. Gmail is awesome...unless you're from an internet blocking nation (coughchina) where yahoo is your only option....

So, for nostalgic sake, I keep them.
Anyway, can you just use the official Yahoo Mail app? Probably it is not optimized yet for HC.

Hello,
i just got my Hero and I'm now trying to setup my POP email account using HTC mail. I'm using the same settings which i had on my HTC Diamond but for some stupid reason i cannot setup the outgoing SMTP server on the Hero.
No matter what I do, i always get a
"550 Administrative prohibition" from the outgoing mail server.
However, i can receive email using the same account information, just sending does not work
Any hints?
have you turned authentication on for the outgoing server?
that error suggests you haven't and it is blocking you because of it!

Yes, i have. Actually, when i turn it off i do not get any error messages during account setup but then again i cannot send any mail in the HTC mail app
The above error occurs when the HTC mail setup prog tries to verfiy the settings with the smtp server.
Do you use a different username for your smtp server? That flatout refuses to work for me in HTC Mail, I would suggest you try K-9 a much better email app.

No, it's the same username (=email address).
ok, next one to try, i know on my server, the username is the email address bbut with a + instead of the @. Usually i don;t have to use it and the @ sign works, but some programs i have to use the +

Nope, sorry. That didn't do the trick as well.
Meanwhile i read on some other forums that it depends on the mail server, that's why some work and some won't. As it seems the HTC Mail app is sending a "script" (whatever) during account setup that is treated as malicious by the server and ignored therefore.
Sorry to bother guys, but has anyone here able to set up their Yahoo email, if you have one up? I just can't seem to get it to work.

Use K9 Mail instead of the stock email app. Works very well with Yahoo.

The official Yahoo! Mail app is really slow, at least in my experience (Captivate). I've tried it a few different times and always go back to K9.
I went with K9 for now. I still can't get it to push for some reason though...
The Yahoo app blows ass, and like above said, it's slow...

I was quite excited reading your post, seeing an incoming server setting that I had not come across before. (the 'n' thing) However, still no push functionality. I wonder if ANYONE has EVER succeeded in making Yahoo push work on Android? I use K9 which works brilliantly with every possible email provider, but the Yahoo one. Sure, it retrieves my mail, but only when I poll manually. Still no push. Does ANYONE have information on how to get this working? Please help! And if you could provide the correct settings, the post MUST render a 'sticky' !!!!!!!!!!

you get your emails right away to your phone (i.e. "pushed")?
And you use either "no SSL port 143" or "SSL port 993"?
And you're using K9 rev. 3.403 to retrieve your emails?
Are you using "[email protected]" or just "johndoe"?
Could you please present ALL your settings here?
Because I have tried both (rather ALL) settings, to no avail.
I just can't figure why it works for some, but not for others.

for those who have been having the issue of getting push email on your Galaxy Tab
here is the ease way to get this work
**** this may require that you delete your email account and reinstall it !!
step.1) after you have entered your email Addy and your password.
Step.2) Choose manual setup you will see the tab for exchange choose it .
step 3) the only thing you have to change is the server address it should
m.google.com
step 4.) you will this get a pop up to allow secure link certificate .
it will also ask you questions about push Schedule for peak and non peek hours. i did it on mine and i have push email on all my accounts now .......

I wanted to use Samsung native email(looks better on sgt) rather than gmail native apple, but the lack of push was the big down for me.
now I can use sgt native apple with push function. Thanks a lot. U r the man!
I tried the other method before, but it was too trick and i had to use my existing exchange account..
This method is very easy and simple+ works like a charm!
Ps . I had to play some time to iron the calendar stuffs though.

Good tip but posted in wrong section maybe? Galaxy Tab General is probably a better place for this I think, as it keeps the dev section clean.

alright this is what you should do when you choose the manual setting leave eveything alone except the server name it should say m.google.com

Sorry, that is wrong! The native Gmail app is push. You only need to use exchange activesync for apps other than the Gmail app.

Thanks Dave! I am glad you cleared that up.
And just to reiterate yes, the native Gmail app USES push. Not sure what is gained by using the Microsofts Exchange Protocol vs. what is available by default; seem like the original poster may have not realized that he was taking the long way to do the same thing that's offered natively by the Gmail app. Moreover, one could argue that the mail app has less features than the Gmail app, i.e. priority inbox, searching, etc...

Actually my email provider is LIBERO...
K9 seems to have built in push capabilities...but the stock mail app in the GT is gorgeous!
Or...is there any way to split the page, in K9 mail app, into list email and selected email preview in landscape mode as the stock mail app does?

The stock apps allows for Exchange ActiveSync, and IMAP IDLE (which is pseudo push).

Libero gives push capabilities through imap...so how to get them with the stock
Mail app?dont wanna use k9 because of its not useful layout!

Are you on wifi? Try turning SSL on. Also maybe your attachments are to large. In aosp roms the limit might be between 2mb-5mb (not sure maybe even less) in sense roms you can actually adjust it to like 20mb etc.

The problem is that you are using AOL. Use anything else and all should be fine.

Instead of using the imap settings to configure your AOL email account...just add a new email account and don't go into "MANUAL". Enter your AOL email address and password...it'll auto configure to AOL's email servers and then try your attachment methods. I haven't encountered ANY problems doing it in this fashion.

Lol, in all seriousness, AOL has always given people issues. I used to have AOL back in the day. We had switched to it from prodigy. BIG mistake. I've seen nothing but problems with AOL. I used to work in the geek squad in best buy and even when Outlook was configured correctly, something never worked right. Not to mention, AOL itself is a HUGE resource hog. I'm sorry, but I just don't see the point in paying for e-mail when there are far better and free services. Why don't you see if you can forward your e-mail to another service and use that service to get your mail?

I won't start an argument, but I should set a couple things straight.
First AOL mail is free. It has been for a long time. What people pay for is dial up access.
As for AOL is huge, that is just a client. It's not a requirement for access to mail. There are people that like it and are comfortable with it. I don't use it.
There are certainly different services, but I don't think I'd call any of them better.
It seems that Yahoo is having the same problem... I have three yahoo accounts on my EVO and two of the three work fine, as they have for the last 14 months. My setting are all exactly the same - I can get, send, see all my emails in all my accounts except one... it just keeps telling me "more msg's on server"... it just started the other day and over at android forums- there is a whole thread about it... i searched here and no go... i think i'll make one...

This works
Can't get Yahoo Mail to work as imap/pop3 on Galaxy S3. It appears Yahoo is forcing people to use the Yahoo Mail app. If you want to access Yahoo mail as imap/pop3 instead of using the Yahoo Mail App, then they are charing $19.99 a year for "Yahoo! Mail Plus" to grant pop3 access.
I tried the following imap settings:

Also tried pop settings, no luck.
Doesn't work, won't connect to Yahoo servers. Does anyone know a solution? I have a feeling they really want you to upgrade to Yahoo! Mail Plus, but then again it still works on a Blackberry without upgrading.

Only if you have their paid service can you get push email. The only reason gmail is push is because thats the way they designed the app and syncing.

Got it, I figured you needed the paid service. But something that perplexes me....Yahoo push email works on Blackberry devices without needing to pay for the upgraded Yahoo Mail Plus.
