Yeah, its not required to unlock the wifi, but it is required for purchase based on conversations with BB and VZW. They will not let you walk out the door without activating the data service.
Not a big deal though, just walk out, cancel the service and get your money back.

And computer associates should be by now fully trained on activations and they do have the equipment to do it.

whats to stop you from refusing the activation? i mean you paid the money it's your device how can they tell you what to do with it?

Just to let you guys know

Sprint will not sell you the Epic unless its activated in store, so for you unboxers, take your cameras to the stores if you were planning an unboxing video
we'll see what the shack has to say about that
Why do they need to open my box and finger freak my new $500 phone just to activate it? Use the ESN# from the box and call it a day!

I believe Sprint mean it must be activated under a plan, not necessarily activating the phone itself. So if a person tries to come and buy one at full retail under no plan, they wont allow that.

Nope, the phone MUST be activated or it will not be sold, period lol. This is coming from an internal memo I received today
Quoted per memo "no cold sales allowed"
I don't mind them having to activate the phone on spot. It means that it will be usable more quickly.
But the dude at radioshack IS NOT going to be the one who opens the box and takes off the plastic etc. I will most likely go outside the store and take a moment to open it, then let them activate it.
My phone was sent to me with service.

talk to the rep explain your situation, sure they can make an exception for the commission they are getting
Activating it in store and a cold sale are two different things. Cold sale means it was sold to someone at full price and they don't have an account. You CAN however, sell the phone attached to someone's line, without actually turning the phone on.
One caveat, however: Good luck finding someone willing to do this for you. I know I wouldn't.

That's funny. Like the commission is anything decent on one line. I have to do 50 activations a month, and my commission check is barely decent.
Not that you would want to pay full price from Sprint when Amazon has a better deal on the buyout price.
Yeah but I can walk into a Sprint store on launch day and buy one. Can't do that with Amazon. Tuesday is far enough away as it is

Texas Recovery Fee??

I just got a text today from tombile
stating that the Texas Recovery Fee is now included in my monthly bill?
What does this mean? and wht IS the texas recovery bill?
edit..
I just read here http://www.t-mobile.com/promotions/pcmtemplate.aspx?passet=Pro_Pro_NSFLegal
But how much is it, i don't care now because its MANDATORY, but i still would like to know what it is and what it does.
does anyone have any clue?
EDIT: as far as i've read this is for ALL Texas Customers on ANY carrier, dunno about other states.
lol isn't that some bull**** .
It's just a way to tax us Texans without taxing us directly. They charge a fee to the phone company for operating in the state knowing full well the cost just gets passed on to customers.

Ya I got that text last week I also would like to know how much more my bill is going to be now
okay as long as i'm not the only one that this is happening to i'm fine.
but still whats the cost for someone whos had this done to them for a month or so?
If its 5$ or more. BULL. I'mma move lol.
man, half our cellphone or cable bill is all these fees, taxes, and regulatory bull**** that no regular person understands
I got this text yesterday as well.
Just called in and the lady read off a statement she had.
Short of it:
1% of your telecommunications billing (minutes, data ect...) is what this fee will be.
Soooo depending on your bill I don't see this being over $1.50-$2. I have two lines both with data and my plan and data are I believe around $120 before tax so I can live with $1.20 more. I will not LIKE it but welcome to America right?
EDIT:
I stand corrected, mine is $1.41 lol.
Also she said it will be/is in "other charges" in your bill.
Can't wait for this to.happen in my state.

You think that's bad, I worked in a Town where you had to pay a fee for having a job, $20 quarterly, whether or not you lived there it was automatically deducted from your pay, and they didn't even try to hide it, it was called the Right to Work Fee

From what I have read, this is basically t-mobile attempting to recover the fees that they are incurring as part of a tax on them for operating in Texas. Basically they are getting taxed so they are passing the cost on to the consumer. Crummy but not much we can do about it.

there are several states doing this now, and most consider cellphones as a luxury item like a sports car and charge you for just owning one.
This might be for a different thread but the U.S. has the highest corporate tax rate in the world and all those corporations just pass that expense on down the line to us.

Is there a way to get the hot spot function without the monthly fees?

Yes, if you are rooted.
Grab wireless tether here or from market now I believe.
To me, I think of it as I'm already paying for it...It's just using the internet signal from my phone and pushing it to my computer, I have my unlimited data plan!
But yeah, Barnacle Tether or Wireless Tether for root users are your two best bets.

I don't think you could convince me that wifi tether is Illegal...I mean, try your best...but If I pay for unlimited data on my cell phone...and my cell phone does all of the modulation/demodulation of the data....regardless of what app it is pushed too or what hardware that app has control over....I see 0 wrong with it.
Just because there's nothing morally wrong with it doesn't mean it isn't illegal.

I do it too. But by the Terms and Conditions they made you agree to:
Prohibited Network Uses. ...(vi) for an activity that connects any device to Personal Computers (including without limitation, laptops), or other equipment for the purpose of transmitting wireless data over the network (unless customer is using a plan designated for such usage);
So legally you can't do anything you want
Are you guys really dumb or just acting dumb? Of course it's illegal and against contractual agreement.
It's not illegal as there is no law that prohibits you from doing so.
It is absolutely a breach of your contractual obligation with Sprint and makes you subject to termination and perhaps damages recovered from Sprint for using their service in a manner you agreed that you would not use it, though I doubt Sprint would ever do more than terminate your contract.
I want it for work I need conectivity and sum pol have no phones or internet so for me to connect their stuff and send data then dissconnect is Whuts needed but I pay enough already for my plan I don't se the 30 more on top of the bill wnted to bypass that aspect

exactly. Illegal means there is a LAW prohibiting it. Find said law in any state, local, or federal mandate and I will happily eat my shoe.
It IS probably a breach of contract though, which by no means is a law.
Everyone is a law expert these days. Illegality and breach of contract are not the same thing.
"Theft of services" is a violation of the law in probably all states...is in mine. That would be the law, cough, cough, being "broken"....saw a few judges concerning said law back in the day. Jumping turnstiles.

This. You can contractually agree to many things that aren't otherwise regulated by law. I'm not saying I don't do it from time to time, but it isn't as simple as saying that you pay for unlimited data so you can use it however you like.

Ripped of by Sprint. Beware anyone I beg you.

I love Sprint, NOT!!! I cancel service because it used to work at my house then quit. I go a month without it so I port my numbers and they will not do anything on cancellation fees. I had them submit a Adjustment waiver form and they came back of course saying they are valid cancellation fees. Why should I pay you anything? You can't keep up with your end of the bargain but you want me to keep up with mine. I also should make sure to state I had full service in my house when I signed up and 2 months later nothing. No construction done nothing. Just a big screw you from Sprint. Thanks guys really appreciate it.
Not to mention it was not a building issue. It was outside everything. I wasn't even asking to remove all cancellation fees. I figured 50% would be fair.

If I remember correctly edge is not a contract so you don't have a termination fee, just a payment fee. And from what I heard from T-Mobile, they will only buy out your contract/pay termination fee. They will not pay your edge installment balance off. Just fyi if you did want to eventually leave Verizon while you have Edge installments.

That's early edge, meaning that you're recycling into another edge installment. you have to completely pay off your phone if you wanted to leave the service. it looks like what you're trying to do has a slim chance of seeing a glimmer of light lol. all in all, if you do it this way, pay the full amount of the phone you have and sell it at ebay/swappa/cl price. not sure what phone you have but i'm sure you'll be losing a few hundred bucks. sorry buddy, that's the trick of edge, they got you.

That's good to know that you can switch over. That also means you just forked over hundreds of dollars (to pay off 75% for a device) to verizon AND bought a new phone under a 2 year agreement plus activation fee. But if you started edge when it first came out, then there's no problem about that since you've been already paying that for that period of time.
Or, are you planning to switch to a different carrier for them to pay ETF?

I switched the family over to Verizon yesterday and ended up using a iphone 5S IMEI to get my number to activate before popping it in my CW Nexus 6. The rep that was doing the activations said that he has played with a Verizon Nexus 6 during his training. He asked me how I liked it. I did ask him when it would release and he said he wasnt sure, just that the phone was undergoing testing and should release soon.
Only gripe would be that I cant do Data while On a phone call. Was used to this when I was on AT&T and came in handy while on Conf calls and such.
