eb13 ram management - Epic 4G General

This is something that is vastly improved. Although haven't yet seemed mentioned.
Ram management in the previous 2.2 leaks were horrible. For instance surfing on browser, going to messaging app to answer a text, the browser would unload from memory.
That was very, very annoying to have the page reload everytime you try to return to browser.
Also I could have more than 5 apps at a time loaded in memory at one time as shown by the
Samsung task manager.
Now eb13 I can us browser, text, do a speedtest, open tapatalk, install app from market,
And now go back to browser still loaded in memory. Also as shown I can have at least 12 or more
Apps open at one time while having more ram available ;-)

It's about the only improvement (and 3g web browsing speeds) that I can notice from leaked 2.2 vs official 2.2

I have noticed this as well. I thinks its pretty awesome. Leaps and bounds above DK28 in feel and use.

I hadn't noticed that with the browser, but maybe that's because I use Dolphin HD. Were any of you using different memory management settings before? Using the aggressive setting might cause the issue you describe.

Can't wait to try it - still waiting on Viper though. On a side note, I am super jealous that you have 4g

Oh no. I mentioned it last night after doing a ram test. I was able to load about 15 apps and switch back and forth without having froyo closing tgem down like the beta leaks. This is one if tge best improvements on this official release. Very happy.

Have you noticed your browser still checker-boarding?

eb13 browser is noticeably faster in my opinion. Yes you can make it checkerboard for second if you try, but in scrolling down multiple long, graphically intense pages, it is smooth and did not checkerboard at all.

do you guys run it on level 1 or level 2?

I see checkered board initialy, once I pan down the page, its gone 100%.
I used to do level 2 clwan on the leaks since the leaks always closed the apps. Now with this, I don't do no clean.

Great you guys seemed to have picked up on it as well.
Also you notice the cpu usage even with many programs like that open, is low. As I noticed before, they seemed to fight for cpu % lol.
Also I do not mess with the level 1 and 2 controls, as I have found it in dk28, to terminate my text gateway to where I can't send text; they would be stuck on sending
But as mentioned, this improvement does make the experience a bit more enjoyable.

Hey all. New user here. I'm very new to the epic, and smartphone in general, but I'm loving it so far. I was wondering about the different levels az well. What does it all do? I just don't want to select level 1 od level 2 if I'm going to mess something up. Any help would be grateful. Thanks

Hayabusa mentioned that ram clears have affected his texting, and after a mini experiment done in another thread we've seen that level 2 clears will break texting.

I notice you're running the Battery Life widget.....I had to uninstall that widget because it kept preventing the phone from sleeping. You don't have this problem?

have you noticved that if you clear the level 2 cache you loose data connection and only text messages work
thats a problem I have
oh, yea, and this stupid forums making me wait 5 min between posts and 10 posts before posting the ine development section

Because morons like to create their very first post in the dev forums...kind of like it was a right of passage into XDA. The Dev forums are pretty cluttered any ways, but when you have 30 n00bs a day posting in there, important threads where knocked down 1 or 2 pages. Also, the 5 minutes between posts is a spam prevention thing.

I dont think so, i think hes doing them game by game at the moment.....not like traditional emulators, but you never know, maybe some point down the line, if its technically possible......which to me, its seems like all the ingredients are there.
From what i understand hes figured out a way to convert x86 ?binaries? on the fly [JIT], to something arm can understand, and bypassing some[all?] of the emulation and saving some of the processing power that normally gets used by that emulation. Is that a first for android emulation technique?i dont know
He gives a much better account of it on his blog
Alright for fans of ceasar 3, looks like the beta's now available on the playstore, bugs have already been reported and a new update is in the process of being pushed to the market, so hopefully that helps.

Good luck:good:
make RA2 Happen!!!
I played it some last night on my note. The S-pen makes it a lot easier to navigate through the menus in the game. The only thing I didn't like was the always touch the screen was a left click. I accidently destroyed some buildings because I had the shovel selected and built some in places I didn't want to since its a little hard to position exactly since it builds right away. But as far as performance I played for about 30 minutes and only used 5% battery and it ran perfect. No lag or slow downs. Loads up fast. You do have to put the games on built in sdcard since the program only seems to scan for games there and its not configurable.
still trying to get a hold of the game lol

5% in 30 minutes, thats impressive......thats a total average of 10 hours playtime, not to shabby........although i suspect different games will vary depending on how graphic intensive they are
Glad to hear it runs smoothly, saw one or two videos, and was wondering if the whole game played as smooth, glad to hear it does
How are the control widgets, are they implemented well

I really want it! Id play the s**t out of it

Found setting for 3G to help battery life..

Some of you are going to say 'that's old news', but for the benefit of people like myself who maybe missed it at the time, I'm going to reiterate from something which was brought up a long time ago in the xda forums, found by accident in posts from a year or two ago.
There's this thing called fast dormancy. It's like a network power saving feature, which some networks don't support, and I found a lot of people saying that when disabled, can actually help battery life on 3G. I'm not going to go into that now, if you want more info Google it..
So it was as simple as adding a line into your build prop. "ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule" with a value of "0" and rebooting.
I wasn't expecting much, but did it just for the hell of it. I've not really used my 3G data much since I did this about 4 hours ago, but I left my data switched on, which is usually enough to drain the battery a bit anyway, I'd expect to lose 7 or 8 percent normally just being connected to data. Just checked battery drain. Hasn't moved 1%??!?! UPDATE: It is still using a bit, but definitely seems better.
Also..... I've speed tested my data many times before. Usually in my house, from sitting in the same chair, in the same room, I always get say 2Mb plus or minus 0.5 Mb. Well guess what. I ran a speed test and got 5.5Mb!!! So I ran a few more and it never went below 4Mb.
Can someone please shed some light on wtf is going on here? lol
Edit: just ran another speed test. 5.26 down, 1.25 up. Something has changed here, I'm telling you. Maybe o2 have switched on a new mast right outside my window ( just kidding, there's no new masts, because there's a mast fairly close to me, I know where it is)... I've ran loads of these tests with the same phone, same network, same room, and same ROM before, and never got half of the speeds that I'm consistently hitting now. Maybe the network has been upgraded or something and its just coincidental, that wouldn't explain why my battery life on 3G does seem to be improved though..

Anybody else fancy running a speed test, adding the line into your build prop, then rebooting, trying another speed test, and checking out your 3G battery life as well?

Tried it but unfortunately no noticeable difference in my case (on KPN network in NL). Thanks for the suggestion tho!
No problem. Maybe there has been some kind of improvement made to my network then. After having a think about it, if I am now getting a much better signal than I was it would actually explain the increase in speed (obviously), but also it may explain the battery life increase too due to my phone not hunting for a signal as much.
That's why I was wanting someone else to try, so thanks. I didn't realise it was possible in the real world to get 5.5 megabits from HSDPA. I wonder what the theoretical maximum is from it, and the real world maximum..

[THEORY] Remove Touchpad Lag in JB + Theoretically Boost GPU!

My Theory + Story, Keep parts in-mind as they come together slowly,
PT1:
Hey Guys today i wanted to SuperClean & Restart my Device, so i Attempted to type "su", Instead i typed "du" and Suddenly all file locations listed just in my face, and it took like 10 seconds as each directory was flying by and i Saw a tone of writting but a couple of listings caught my eye, It was something like "irq/"
PT2:
Like a 2 weeks ago i got a new laptop, and it had decent specs, Intel HD 3000 as a iGPU and an Intel i3 Clocked at 2.10GHz, so I downloaded Black ops 2 in Hope to get it running at a decent 30FPs at least on Multiplayer, So I Fired it up and it was at an appauling 9FPs, Casually Treyarch gave me the "Optimal" Settings or sth, but then i lowerd them down to Low and saw a big boost to about 30FPs AVG but i was still upset with the frequent FPs Drops, so instead i Google'd some ways of Boosting the Blops 2 FPs, and the First thread that came up was "FPS Tweaks for Black ops 2", So this Thread showed me how to modify the windows Prioritys, It works with IRQ's (Remember this from PT1?) so i Popped up the registry and modifyed my IRQ of my CMOS/Clock Control to 1 and my GFX Card to 2, Now black Ops 2 Was Blazin Fast, i had 50 FPs avg and the lowest drops were about 38 FPs!
PT3:
Within the Listings in Terminal Emulator (after scrolling to find it...) i found "irq/161/synaptics_touchpad", So Isnt this the touchpads in the xPlay?, Well Yes It probably is, so after scrolling down the irq list i found multiple things that could be prioritized (cypress_touchscreen = more responsiveness!, but couldent find gpu.. ), so I thought about the Touchpad Lag in JB, and so well if we were able to prioritize this then wouldent the touchpads in JB be smooth?, Theoretically YES, but it hasent been done yet!, i dont know if simply moving the folder to the "irq/1/" would prioritize this or whether lots of other things are Linked to it, so wouldent this break it?, Well Maby.. Thing is its dangerous to test this and im not even sure if this is the priority stuffs!
I hope we can get this working and finally Fix the touchpad lag at least, but dont forget this an be done for multiple pices of hardware if we can identify the hardware!,

Totally wrong.
You can't edit these things, because are "virtual files" of processes that are running in your device, so the memory always is writing onto these files, and there is no content, only bits. If you have knowledge in linux /proc= process.

Boosting GPU = Increasing lag in games.
It's a direct relationship in Xperia Play.

no, what we have seen is overclocking the GPU, not boost its priority,

After more Reasearch, it cant be changed, for sure, as i even tried copying, cutting, renaming the synaptics touchpad file on GB only tho, also the Kernel dosent handle IRQ's so no go for that either,

Do we REALLY appreciate it. ?

I just thought to myself.
How many people, actually appreciate how awesome this piece of hardware is, that they hold in their hand...... And yet the amount of moaning and whingeing that goes on on the web is ridiculous.

Ok !
Initially I was trying to ignore the battery life and how long it takes to charge haha..
But you can't deny, it's about the average. But when you consider the screen and how the phone works, you can't expect an extra day's worth out of nowhere..
If this and the S4 are considered the best options for smartphones right now and the S4 really does gets a few more standby hours, I would still go with the HTC One.
I was thinking about this after playing with a friends S4... yeah its a slick device but nothing on the market feels as good as the One.

Whilst typically I can't help but say every argument has 2 sides, and it's foolish to say the HTC One doesn't have any floors, the fact that this device and similar ones exist certainly deserves a moment of appreciation.
I remember when I was 11, and I spent a full week optimizing what at the time was a relatively well maintained machine and removing loads of crap, overclocking my CPU + graphics, disabling literally everything and eventually I had enough space to install the just-released GTA3 on my computer. The installation itself felt like it took around an hour. Even on the lowest graphics settings I managed just to get 15fps and boy did it make my computer run hot!
Now I have a HTC One. Just one of it's cores is capable of 5 times more processing power than my crappy little AMD Duron had. Today I installed GTA3 on it in a matter of minutes and was playing it maximum settings at a frame rate that made it smooth as butter. And to top it all off, I can control every remote controlled device in my house with it AND it fits in my pocket.
On a forum where people are inherently pointing out every little area for improvement to get the best from their devices, I agree with OP that we should all take a minute to sit back and reflect on the awesomeness of the technology we're all in possession of right now.
We're living in the future.
Hoverboards and holodecks can't be that far away now.

You'll be on 4.3 for a long time. The Chromecast issue doesn't affect everyone equally and according to this post it's not even listed as an identified issue in Samsung's problem tracking system.

I have checked the information in our database and see that, there are no reported cases with Samsung about the Chromecast issue. However, I will provide you troubleshooting steps, please perform them on the device and check if that resolves the issue.

Samsung dropped lock screen widgets starting with the Pro's. The SGS5 and Tab 4's don't have them either. So unless a dev figures out how to get them back for people that are rooted they're pretty much gone.
I tried a friends Chromecast (I don't use it) and I don't have the issue people are describing. While casting I can open the notification panel and change the volume. I upgraded vs. doing a full wipe and still have the lock screen widgets on 4.4. I lost Daynote which is supposed to be there and I'd rather have it than the widgets. I'm betting if I hard reset the lock screen widgets will go away and Daynote will come back. Maybe you'll get lucky and the widgets will remain after you upgrade.
I expected to never receive a viable update when I bought it. Samsung is not known for their great product support. If there had been an updated Nexus 10 released, I wouldn't even be here, but Google left the 10 inchers out to dry it seems.
That being said, Chrome is now apparently abandoning tablet users as well. It feels like Google has given up on the tablet market altogether. Maybe that guy talking about looking to Windows for his next tablet has the right idea :-\
Indeed my bookmark icons on my Note 10.1 and Note 3 look horrible. Really a bummer of astronomical proportions. On my Note 3 it already looks silly. and on my tablet it is like a go back 10 years in time.
Google's response is this is the new UI, get used to it.
Fantastic. Google continues to ignore tablets.

Google Chrome seems to need some help here as you all gang up on it..
I really like the new look and find it much more usefull, you have everything at hand just over the buttons and easy to scroll thru. Much easier and a better solution to handle the bookmarks I think.

If that's Google's reponse they can have it. No Chrome for me anymore and removed it from my devices. I hope hundreds of million of us will do the same. That will change their mind. And like I said, it looks like if I go back in time for 10 years.
