Update available!!!! - Omnia 7 General

My phone currently updating to version 7008 - needs update to Zune too which is downloading first.
Was on 7004.
Will let you know what happens!

I can't see any changes...
Also no saving of the changes you make in Camera or so on...
Is this the update before March Update!?

Yeah, this is just an update to pave the way for future updates. You'll find nothing new here.

Is the Camera any better...? could be into the realms of imagination here but took a photo and it seemed clearer than previous efforts on standard settings. Phone also 'seems' a little zippier.
Not totally sure so guess things aren't that different.
Backup worked nicely though.

Mine is in the process of updating. The backup process takes a while.
I wonder if we can use someone elses backup to restore a phone? I only ask because I flashed my UK T-Mobile device with the unbranded Samsung one because it was said that it fixed Bluetooth problems. However, it has had no effect, and now I can't take my phone back to T-Mo because it's not running the original firmware. If I can get it back to UK spec, then I can take it back to a shop and swap it for a (hopefully) working one...

Done. It is only a preparatory update for the actual update containing copy and paste, improvements to Windows Phone Marketplace et.al. Ergo, it doesn't contain any new functionality and won't remove or hinder any installed jailbreak functionality.

Yup, more playing, definitely no changes I can find...camera taking a better photo just happened to be a picture in better light.

This update has bricked my Omnia 7.
When I connected my Omnia 7 to Zune today, I was notified of an update. Zune updated itself and quit. I restarted Zune and it informed me there was an update for my phone. I clicked update now and it got to step 6/10 rebooting phone. The phone evenually rebooted and Zune reported the following:
RESTORATION ERROR
An error prevented the restoration of your phone to its previous version. Your phone cant be used in its present condition and there are no restore points for it on this computer. Thephone might restart and return to normal if you disconnect it. For further assistance, contact your mobile operator.
ERROR CODE C101002E
Thanks Microsoft, that's a really helpful message. NOT.
I have manually updated to the latest Zune, rebooted my PC, rebooted my phone, and I get the same thing every time.
THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH MICROSOFT. My Omnia 7 is now a brick.

Sorry about that. I was afraid of this happening to me, after the update stalled for an hour at the 7th step, so I disconnected. Luckily nothing happened to my device. But apparently several Omnia 7 are experiencing this.
Sort it out, MS.

First things first. I was updated Zune to the recent version, because I was curious it will resolve a problem with login user on one of my computers. One (Windows Vista) works fine, but another one, Windows 7 (both 32-bits versions) works fine with Zune + Market.

I've done the same. I have (branded) T-Mobile UK phone and decided update to unbranded one. I choose version I8700XENJK1 (but I tried another one before) - for me, one difference is language Dutch / Belgium if I remember correctly.
I've read this thread and I was wondering if my phone will find update... I had no information about this.
I return home, connect Omnia to computer and update process start immediately. I had no problem with update at all. Phone during update reboots twice (or more) and it looks stable. I haven't noticed any changes or improvements... maybe it's working a little bit faster, but maybe it's a auto-suggestion.

Have you got samsung tools installed?

I have tried twice to install the update. Both times I got stuck at 7 or of 100 with 100%.
The only thing I have done my phone is to unlock it with chevron.
Altough I did have it in flight mode at the time to prevent relocking.
Do you think that would have affected anything?

Still nothing showing up for me yet. Those who got the mini update does your 3 button combo into download mode now work if you had a phone that didnt let it happen before?

Three button combo now gives me the rather scary option to Format or Cancel. I thought Cancel would be the way to go....

Successful Updaters: Please post your Firmware revisions
For those who have managed to get the update installed without error, can you please post here your firmware revisions. We may be able to work out which models are affected by the issue.
There are rumours that this update only affects firmware versions JI9 and JJ4 while the JK1 firmware is unaffected.

[Q] Samsung Update (post Nodo)

After updating my Omnia 7 to Nodo I got another update notification about a "Samsung Update".
When I try to install it it hangs at step 6 of 10: rebooting your phone (the phone shows the omnia logo but doesn't boot).
Was anybody able to install this update? What does it do?
You say you updated to NoDo...how? Did you receive a notification or use one of the tricks to get the update? Not had anything myself. Also how long after the NoDo update did you get the other update, was it via Zune or a phone notification.
Sounds interesting given the odd display I've now got, wondering if we have some updated drivers on the way.

I forced the update (via Hungary) but got the new notification as soon as I connected the phone to Zune (it also shows up on the phone).
There is a 'more information' link on the first page but sadly it does not give more information.
Getting the same update after NoDo. Doesn't update though, stuck at rebooting just like you. Weird..
Didn't get my update via Hungary BTW, just the regular way (A1 branded).
Hmmm this is worrying. I assume there were no problems after this update failed?

No, I don't think anything happened yet. The PC is waiting for the phone to reboot, and the phone is stuck on boot..
How long did you leave it?
Not sure, 30-45 mins maybe the first time. The second time I tried just a couple of minutes. It said the update would take 32 mins, but since it just said rebooting and not updating I reckoned the process hadn't even started yet.

You just unplugged it then and it carried on workig OK?
That sounds about right, when i did pre-nodo the reboot took about a minute or so of displaying the Omnia logo then went to the pc plug screen whilst it updated.
I did read about device specific updates, seems odd though as some people are saying that they updated to NoDo and it works fine and had no future updates.

Unplugged it and had to take the battery out to reboot. Notice how it says 'Samsung update for Windows Phone' though. I'll try one more time. My phone bugged me a couple of times about the update as well ('An Update is available').
I wonder if this is a firmware update?
Edit - Looks like it is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12516155&postcount=56
Yeah, guessed so. Still not working for me though. Waited for about an hour for it to reboot.
My mistake - Edited
Can i know which firmware version do you have on your Omnia 7? I got a JK1 and i haven't recieved this kind of update
PS
To view firmware version go in phone then open the numeric pad and call ##634# to enter diagnosis then type these combination: *#1234#
For me:
PDA: ends with JID
Phone: ends with JIC
CSC: ends with JID
Curious to see what Cheekbone has as its trying to update it
All end with JJ6
Well I guess the majority is already on JK1, so the samsung update only pops up for some.
It would be great if there would be further samsung firmware updates before major MSFT ones.
It does seem that JK1 is the norm. I guess it means I will be offered the further update...
Worrying!

Have you updated to Pre-NoDo (.7008) or NoDo (.7390) ?

Any Mango installation Problems reported?

Curious that I see no reports of install problems with Mango on the Dell....yet, especially with those coming from any of the Beta's. Has anyone seen any reports anywhere?
I'm here to report 1.
I was on Mango release build. I flashed back to 7004, and followed the update path to 7008, then 7403 then the release build.
When completed, the VP is in a reboot cycle triggered by any touch. I've done this several times.
The reboot cycle appears as follows:
The update completes with no error and the final reboot starts. On reboot, if no sim is in place, the sim error screen appears. This is normal. Touch the screen to close, forces a reboot, regardless of the update complete message.
Repeat process, this time with a sim in place, Update is installed, success messages appear in zune and on the phone. Disconnect phone, touch the screen, reboot occurs.
Repeat process. let the phone reboot until it reaches the desktop. connect via cable to zune. The device is recognized, but NO sync occurs. Go to settings/update and the current build is recognized. Restore is available, and will work.
if the screen goes dark, slide up or touch power will bring up the Lockscreen. Wifi does show, so does 3g and battery, but NO lockscreen release options are available. Again, any touch forces reboot.
I've reported to Microsoft, but was not considered serious since it cannot be reproduced.
Did the update with my HD7 so Zune, the downloads, etc are in place and working.
Getting back to 7392 is an option, so I am not dead in the water. But wanted to make sure reports of problems with the update were reported.
Since I flashed back to 7004, I lost the firmware updates. I noticed that the subsequent updates do NOT flash any firmware. According to MS EULA, all updates are cumulative...contain all previous updates. I have flashed from 7004, to 7008, to 7392 to 7304. During none of these flashes has the firmware been updated. the 105 firmware is maintained. I thought I read that the 7420 update included the 219 firmware....

Please read my problem I have encountered and how I have solved, hope this helps.
After step 6 while trying to install Mango I recieve error code 801812c1.
I faced a problem while updating to Mango via Zune software.
My phone kept restarting while installing 7.10.7720.68 update. Stuck in step 8/9 for about 30 mins.
I did the following to recover, nothing worked.
1. I guess my phone got bricked, stuck in an infinite restart loop. I cancelled my update and removed the data cable. Removed battery and put it in again, tried restarting, still in infinite loop. Thanks DELL & Microsoft!
2. I read in Dell forum that I have to turn off my phone, then hold down Power Button + Volume Down + Camera button to enter PC download mode, so that I can restore it from Zune software. Trying it now.
3. Restore from Zune doesn't work, even its stuck at 0% for about 30mins.
4. After a few tries, removing battery, removing the SIM and doing some random stupid stuff, tried again the restoration seemed to work, I mean it started to restore.
5. Finally, I guessed its time for me to give up. Restoration failed with Error Code 8018009B. So its bricked for now.
6. I was greeted with this nice message from Windows Phone support tool
"Communicating with device. Please wait for Recover button to be enabled.
Support Tool version 4.8.2345.0
The tool cannot recover this phone. Please contact technical support."
I didn't even force the update, it was regular update which I was able to start from Zune without forcing it. NOW ITS BRICKED!
7. I took my phone to Dell Service Center, those guys couldn't figure out the problem, they said its a new phone here in India and don't have any technician to fix it.
I posted the same in Engadget, I got no response from anyone, so am posting here hoping to get a solution. I at least want my phone working, I'm happy without mango.

If this was NOT a forced update, Dell may be able to help you. Microsoft has made updating 'almost' brick free. If you log into Zune, a backup is made, you're using the cable that came with dell, not using a USB hub, have a solid internet connection, and are NOT forcing the update, the blame for the problem could fall onto the update itself.
As part of a test team, I used to try and brick Windows Phones. The easiest test was to remove the cable during different phases of update. I was never able to brick the phone. Sudden power loss on the PC also was tested. Never was able to brick a phone. Apparently the download and transfer process is done in parts, meaning the update is downloaded, completed, then transferred to the phone, then installed. If the update is interrupted during download, no worries, or even transfer, no worries, reboot the phone, try again.
The process of install is done 100% on the phone so no bad cables, or shut down of internet can impact it. Even if connection between PC and phone are lost during the install portion, the message still tells you to check the phone. The install will continue.
that leaves only the relationship between the installation and the files itself. If the update package is corrupt or damaged, then it may not be able to successfully complete. If this is the case, you have an issue with Dell and Microsoft. Since Microsoft can only help you with software, I argue that you would have relief, as in possible phone replacement, from Dell.
Do you have a way of contacting Dell from India?

Called Dell Mobility. Even though I could restore back to previous version, they offered to replace the device, which I took.
Kind of sad though, I've never had problems with wifi or anything else on this phone. In fact the only problem ever with a VP was me dropping the thing. I'm hoping the refurb I get will also not be a problem.

Thanks alodar1..
I asked Dell to do a service and added that I don't need an replacement. The service guy said the phone is new and they are not trained to service this, so they would only do a replacement. I'm not ready to do a replacement, they ask me to go for international warranty, moreover they replace with factory refurbished phones.
BTW, I would like to know if there is anyway to format the memory card without removing or replacing. Right now I have another problem whenever I press the power button to boot my phone it directly goes to Software Download mode, the camera button was never pressed.
While trying to repair using Windows Phone Tool, I received this error "The tool cannot recover this phone, please contact technical support", so being a little curious I fired up .NET Reflector and loaded the tool to find out what was happening, I found that the this error is thrown if the phone is not Samsung made (see attached file). Is there any similar tool for Dell Phones?
*UPDATE 1* Is there anyway to force flash without using Zune, any third party tool, Zune seems to go to restore mode and can't find my phone. I have a feeling that erasing the contents of SD card will solve the problem.
*UPDATE 2* I did the registry trick and was able to see my DVP in Computer window. But instead of one DVP, I see 2 and both have storage of 3.75 GB each. But my DVP is 16GB, both DVP are empty. Previously I was never able to see my DVP even after registry patch. Now I have feeling that corrupt drivers caused the problem, yesterday I completely removed and reinstalled Zune Software, now the registry patch worked.
Please let me know with problem my DVP could be hardware fault or just the software. If its hardware then I'll go for replacement right away.
Just recieved my replacement VP. Ordered yesterday around noonish. Went downstairs to get the Motorola Xoom box that was delivered...and the VP was there too. Bonus....
Did not come with Mango....but....there's not a scratch on this thing....not a rub, not a bump...nothing. Still has plastic in places I doubt they would put plastic after refurb. I'm wondering if I got one of hte left over new ones....
Doesn't matter....Mango won't install no matter what...so...maybe I'll try ICS.

not a flash, but a restore. I've always made copies of my backups ...
You an't reflash as the user above me already said, that said, the backups are stored in
=> %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update
so for backing up your restore poiints you can copy that folder and then keep it.

I was just curious. I wanted to fix my phone. The backup restore didn't work. I was just looking for some way to flash it or at least format the SD Card, so that I reinstall OS and can get my phone working. After four days of trying to fix my phone, I finally gave up and sent it for service to Dell. I even copied a little bit of code from phone support tools and tried them, I was just able to get the phone details without any problem, Mango was installed in the phone, but still it didn't boot. It would be good if we find a way to touch the SD card and format it from PC, probably we'll be able to revive many bricked phones. I would be happy to join the project if some one starts it. I can write C# code.
Mine is an error during backup
Error Code 801812DC during backup
I also add new thread.
If anyone knows, please tell me what I need to do.

[Q] Updating to Mango on branded Omnia 7

Hey,
I have an Omnia 7 (16GB) from Deutsche Telekom, which isn't pushing the update yet (according to the Update Schedule). I've tried the internet pull-trick multiple times, but without success. Exactly what i expected.
I used to be in the Mango Beta (thanks to mangoforall 0.2), and was able to update to the final build (including the cleanup update). Only problem was that i didn't get any new firmwares, so I couldn't use the compass etc.
My idea was to roll back to my NoDo backup, and update back to Mango through the official update procedure. Problem is, my device isn't receiving the update yet. And yes, I still don't know what I was thinking at that moment.
Does anyone know what my best option is to get back to mango?
-I could use the tool again (will that still work? what would i get?)
-I could wait, but that's not a realistic option, already getting sick of NoDo again
-Do i have a third option?
Thanks in advance!
Your solution
Hi after i was suck off didn´t get any update to my omnia ,one like yours, i took a bit time and searched on google where i found the notification that i´ll have to wait until november ,just to long to survive without mango so for your driverupdate i can say the following :http://www.onlinewelten.com/link.ph...ekom-gebrandetes-omnia-7-ohne-kabeltrick.html
What is the pull trick ?
I did this way: press the "look for updates" button in zune with phone connected.
While it's searching for updates, disconnect the pc internet from internet after 3 to 6 secs, BEFORE it says "your phone is already updated"
It will tell you "you have an upgrade" !
Reconnect (press the wifi button or re-plug the cable) and go on
Is this the pull trick ?
I'd call it the most-strange-trick

in your zune sync options, click on "update" and disconnect your internet after a second (pull your cat5 off your pc or laptop. If your on wireless turn the wireless off. whatever it takes to get your internet off in like a second or two). Wait until it finishes searching (like 20 seconds) and it should pop up if done correctly.

I've been trying to do it for four days now. The only message i get after 20 sec is a connection error.
Have you tried flashing a new ROM?
When you've tried everything, I think this is your last resort because it will take some reasonable effort especially if you've never flashed a ROM before.
I have the same phone, the T-Mobile branded Omnia from Germany. I debranded my phone by flashing the XXJL3 RETAIL UNITED KINGDOM ROM since its default is English which I found very convenient.
You can get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131891
Now comes the tricky part. Here are the full steps: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-flash-a-rom-in-samsung-omnia-7-guide/
After you've done that, do the pull trick everyone's talking about: disconnect your PC from internet 2-3 seconds after reclicking the 'Update' tab.
I've updated to Mango and trust me it's worth it. And having a debranded phone is liberating.
I hope everything works well for you. Let me know if you have any further questions.

About Mangorelease for Mango
Hello guys can anybody please confirm that it is right that on facebook the telkom announced that they completed the mangoupdate for telekombranded devices, and that it´ll be rolled out by the manufacturer?
easily you can flash those ROM from post above, and update it w/o any troubles! It's wokring for 100%
My phone also was from t-mo.de. Currently running mango - awasome.
And no need additional questions) you will not loose anything, except your data. But data inside the phone - i think0 it's nothing )) few hours and you can upload any volume of sht/apps/music

[Q] Zune error code 800B010A

Can anyone please explain what the Zune update error message actually means?
Have just spent the last hour searching the whole web and nobody seems to know.
I have managed to successfully download the Mango 7720 update from Zune on top of my previous BTTF rom. Had no problems with Mango update but now when i come to update the clean up update i constantly get the above message.
I have read all the solutions on the developers page (sorry but couldn't post this thread there) and have tried them all. So would just like to understand what the actual error means!!!
you maybe wining price for possible 100 or more asking same question here....
make sure your device not synced with Zune as Guest
disconnect phone
restart computer, restart phone
start Zune, connect phone
try update
if error occur again, restart phone few times...
It's a generic error code. Can mean a few different things; too low of battery (which is why I got it), USB port needs updating, device provisioning .cab wasn't used (so Zune won't recognize it to update it), settings for your Zune client, etc., etc.
^^ There's just a few examples of why you can get that error code, and I'm sure there's more. Hopefully one of the things I mentioned helps.

Thank you for providing some answers. Because I had just used Zune to get the Mango RTM update, I think I can eliminate, Zune client, guest sync and usb drivers. That leaves your suggestion of either low battery or cab install. I know I did cab install when doing the BTTF install. Therefore when I connected to Zune I got the 7720 RTM update.
Can I install the Device provision.cab again without causing any issues?
Zune 80004005 error code. On step 7 of 9
Trying to update from official zune 7403 to 7720 isv beta.
Tried taking sd card out sim out reserved space increased time zone changed.. Have already tried it about 5 times
Can anyone suggest anything else or should I push the cabs through?
OMG. After trying everything and giving up hope. I have just logged on to my PC upstairs and in a vein attempt clicked the install update button on Zune and hey presto, update installed. Technology is unpredictable and has a bloody mind of it's own.. So conclusion is just keep turning both your phone and pc on and off and pray it's your lucky day (7hrs later 30+ attempts)
A big thank you to everyone who has posted possible solutions.
Hey, congrats man! Glad you got it.

Hi
It hasn't been officially resolved. It just seems people are resolving this error due to different problems. I found the thread in the developers section useful, titled ISV beta clean up. Hope some of the answers in there help. If not, like me, just keep shutting down both your pc and phone and pray. Good luck!!!

thanks but good news for me at last it updated lost count how many times ive tried. funny thing is i did it as a guest in zune with a flat battery....lol
so my advice (that anit worth much) is try then try again then again then again until your sick of it all......then u guessed it buy an i-phone
i had the same error... i tried again and again and again........ finally done it!!
to update, you need a bit of luck, I did not reboot PC or phone, just disconnect and reconnect again for times(each time lease disconnected for couple of hours, just forget it...) then it works...
good luck!

I cannot force mango no matter how hard I try!

I have a HD2 running wp7 7392. Really want to get mango. Have tried to force (phone airplan mode, laptop wifi off, plug and unplug ethernet cable). I have tried for 3 days and I have done this maybe 200 times. If I pull too quickly,
within a second, I get connection error. If too slow, 2 or 3 sec, I get "your phone is up to date" And I have tried every ms in between but never was able to get the upgrade! Does anyone else have this problem? Do I have to push deviceprovisioning.cab? I did not have to push this cab and was able to get 7008, then 7392 all through zune. But this time I just cant force. Also looking at the microsoft site, t-mobile phone are already in delivery phase! Drive me nuts! Any advise?
Let's see if I got it right you're on NODO with back to the future v2 and waiting for the official mango update?
Then the solution is quite simple: READ the rom thread! It's in the second or third post...
Anyway, here's the solution:
If you can wait for the official update (it's not out yet!), wait
If not (very likely!!), you've got to send deviceprovisioning.cab to get developer updates and then: just continue updating with zune and it should work just fine...
(or you can use the update cabs provide by xbmod...)
But however you're going to do this, read the rom thread. It's better for you, for your phone (much safer!!!)
upate: I can't wait any longer, so I pushed the deviceprovisioning.cab onto the phone. Right away, zune tells me that there is an update available (7403).
I am in the middle of the 7403. Looks hopeful. Just want to update so other who are stuck at the same place could benefit.
HD2 stuck at 7403, fix!
Hi All! Since august 15th 2012 my HD2 has been stuck at WP7 7403. Tried the force Mango trick very often, but didn't succeed. Very frustrating.
I found my solution in this topic, thank you chabun!
With WP7 Cab Sender I send Deviceprovisioning.cab wich I found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20696473&postcount=4498
After sending Deviceprovisioning.cab Zune showed an update (7720) wich I am installing right now. XDA did it again for me, tnx folks!
