I am excited too. I just flashed back to DI18, and have my phone on my desk...I am checking it like every 5-10 mins lol.

What should I do ?
What should I do ?
If I have rooted and have customed rom ???
Can I still update without going back to 2.1 ???

Wow. There are a few people in here that haven't bothered to check the 2.2.1 OTA Staus thread or The Froyo OTA and all you need to know thread.

Either Odin back to DI18, or wait for a dev to cook a clockwork compatible update.zip or a full .tar file.

Oh, I see that the Sprint admin posted that.
Hopefully that is a typo and he meant 9AM. A couple people have already gotten the update.

I guess you go to about phone and update firmware and if the firmware is ready it will give it to you?

Personally I am doubting that the rumors of anyone getting the update already are true. I can't imagine that with as many people who are watching and waiting for this that nobody who is on any of these forums has gotten anything yet.
I have been sitting here toggling back and forth between forums thinking just that and then I saw the 9pm time and it all made sense.

ota update

does anyone know when they gonna release the update ota.
sorry man, i haven't seen tmo release OTA updates for their WM devices. Most likely you'll have to download a RUU file and install it from pc.

There's an article on tmonews.com saying it's expected to drop today (5/18), but xtenpeben is right, it'll be a PC-based installer not OTA.

That update that the article was talking about was most likely the updated t-mo rom from this last week that's already been released.
Link is back up for the update for those that didn't get it the first go around.
Just remember to put "http" before the backslash since new members can't post links

Yes, it will probably just be the same one that was leaked last week...the article was just saying that Tmo would be "officially" releasing it today, and I've heard reports elsewhere that back that up.
ok,so is it worth updating to the new rom? i seened a lot of post from people talking about the problems with the new rom and rarely any positives so what do you guys think.

I'm giving it another week or two at least before I make the move. I think there's a lot of people who actually waited for the official release, so we'll start getting more feedback about it soon. You can call it "crowdsourcing the testing phase"...I'm waiting 'till I see more data
sirphunkee,im doing the same,i didnt really go through any of the issues tbat people were listing besides the data connection drop/switch(praying i don't jinx it) so it wouldn't kill me to wait a little longer, thanks for the feedback

Good idea And, if that's really the only issue you've had with the original ROM, you might be able to address it by flashing a new radio rather than a whole new ROM. I'm particularly waiting for that type of feedback on the new release...reception stability, etc.

Galaxy S Already Getting 2.2 Update Tonight @ Midnight

World Release! Android 2.2 FROYO on the Samsung Galaxy S. Tomorrow 12 o'clock'. AMSTERDAM
twitter.com/SamsungFirmware
At the look of this I suspect that getting 2.2 sent OTA for the Vibrant shouldn't be too far behind.
This is awesome, I heard the vibrant is supposed to get froyo early august. I am impressed with samsung, they are ready stepping up.
Do you think we would still get the update if we rooted the vibrant?

I'm pretty sure read somewhere on the forums that confirmed that even if you root it, you should still receive OTA's. However, might want to find someone that could confirm that. I'm about to go pick up my Vibrant, im so excited!

I don't see why rooting should stop you from getting the update.
If you have done more than just rooting, then I'm assuming you might have trouble getting the OTA update. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in.
EDIT: By "more than just rooting", I mean if you have installed a custom bootloader or a custom rom.
Cool beans!

Yeah, but if you install it, you will lose root. There will be a modified rom that's rooted VERY shortly after it is released though (Probably before many get the OTA update).
Wow, that was quick! Glad to see Samsung is following through with their promise and fast.
Hopefully the Vibrant will get a release in early August.
if this also includes a GPS fix, i'll be picking up a vibrant within the next week or two... after i pay AT&T my last payment on that contract. whoo!!
(first time poster, but i've been reading these forums non-stop since the release of the galaxy s phones)

Hope so! though t mobile will want to get their hands on it before we see an OTA, of course once a vibrant/captive compatible version hits the internet, we will see a flash ready in no time.
great news!
lol. saw this thread and looked at my twitter tab and the tweet was there waiting for me.
awesome. too bad this isn't for the vibrant. right? just the international?
Non OTA related
This is not official in any capacity. How is this related to OTA release when feed is hosted by samsung-firmware.webs ?
This is so awesome thanks for the info.
SAMSUNG BEAST VIBRANT ™ XDA APP
there should be no reason for those who rooted to not recieve an ota update. however, if you flashed a custom kernal/radio then those ota's might've been disabled.
Anyone noticed this?

So everyone is calling this the official Froyo update, meaning that this is the version that they are going to release via OTA in the coming days (hopefully, not weeks) to retail units not just dev? If that's the case why are so many people having issues with the update? Also, anyone else getting OTA updates? Just asking cause if it's the same one they are going to OTA without any changes I might as well just update right now.

Unless I am mistaken, bluetooth voice dialing is not a native function of froyo, it is included in a google app that is only compatible with froyo. As with all google apps, carriers can choose whether or not to include it. If it is not pre-installed, it can be downloaded from the market.

Firmware Update Available: No not Gingerbread 2.3 :(

According to Engadget there is a firmware update available for the HTC EVO. It updates a lot of bloatware. In addition, it installs the Blockbuster and Swype app. Post how the update goes. Here is the article: EVO 4G gets new firmware update: lots of app refreshes -- Engadget Mobile

I'm guessing like any update Sprint/HTC roll out, there are going to be delays in certain parts. I'm sure it will be hitting devices sooner than later. Sprint/HTC are probably getting their servers up to par for a mass of people trying to get their phones updated.
To the mods, If I posted in the wrong location please move. Thanks
On a side note:
Please do not update if you are rooted or are going to root. Like the recent updates in the past, this may get rid of the root exploit.

This update is most likely the precursor to Gingerbread kinda like what they did right before froyo was released put everyone on the same level with all the fixes then upgrade them all at the same time no haveing to wait for differnt builds due to partition issues of course since we're rooted it doesn't matter to us really

Swype vs Voice
One of the posts following the Engadget story reported that you lose voice input when you use the swype that comes with the Sprint update. Is this true?
It makes no sense because the latest version of the Swype beta has the mic button, and voice input available.
If the voice input, mic button is not there in the version of Swype that comes with the Sprint update, it may be due to Sprint specifications. What would the point of that be.
Thank you for your time.
Ok flame away but where is the update? I dont see it in any links or my phone says there is no update available.

Technically even a rooted stock sense phone should receive the update as the updater isn't turned off/removed. At least thats the way the Eris worked. Unless unrevoked somehow turns off the updater when it roots the phone which I'm not aware of.

Alot of the Dinc ROM developers did turn off the updater back when the Froyo OTA was announced due to annoying, constant pop-ups. At least I know that rmk40 did with Virtuous.
This just added over at Android Central:
"Just got word about how the over-the-air rollout's going to take place. The push is scheduled to start Tuesday, Aug. 16, with an initial 10,000 updates. Another 50,000 will get it on Wednesday, and everybody else on Friday."

If you made a backup of your phone right after you rooted and before you installed a custom ROM like I did then what I'm saying is if you restore this first backup then you should get the update.
