If it was me, I'd check to make sure you're broadcasting SSID on your router. For some reason, at least this is the way it is for me and I would be really baffled if it wasn't happening to everyone else as well, these android devices (I have an EVO and a GT), have a problem with connecting without it being able to see the SSID broadcast. All of my other devices (laptops, desktops, etc...) have absolutely no problems either way (broadcasting SSID or otherwise) connecting to my WiFi setup. Just the adndroid devices.

I had same problem not sure how i fixed it. But i reflashed everything like 1st time
I think it will b the modem file.
BUT check your wireless setting first

Wifi issues

Is anyone else having intermittent drops while connected to wifi? I've noticed my wifi drops and reconnects especially when there is heavy wifi usage... I've tried TKIP and AES with no better luck with either one.

wifi
last night when i was trying to download an app from marketplace?
Yeah, I've just started noticing that. It wasn't doing it most of yesterday and I was using it pretty heavily. It started last night when I noticed both the 3G and wi-fi icons were on. I restarted wifi and it still showed up like that, so I rebooted. Now it seems like it's always on 3G when I pick it up.
What kind of router are you using?

I used to have this problem regularly with mine and my girl's Droids on 2.1, and appeared to be related to using secured wireless networks. I was able to set up a test wireless network with no security and the disconnects stopped happening. Switch back and 5 to 15 minutes later I was disconnected again. I never found a fix for it on 2.1, but the problem completely went away with 2.2.
Unsure if they're related, but from what people are describing, this sounds exactly like the issues I used to have prior to rooting/2.2 on our Droids.
I noticed that it was with wep encryption only. I looked through wpa and etc and there was less dropage. Now, i don't know if your all aware, the ipad does the same thing. The only place i seen it hold up well was the wpa and the hotspot app on board.
I wonder if this is just the new radios and modems in these devices?

Well I'm using WPA2 on a d-link 855... I thought about trying no security, but hate the idea that I may have to do that.

Diego dude, you're running 2.2 on your droid? I wish we could do that on the DX...

OK. Let me start by saying I'm not an expert but I may have found a solution. Go to wi-FI networks and go to wireless settings. Then click on options hard key and choose advanced. then choose Wi-Fi sleep policy and set it to never.
So far so good for me. Let me know if anyone has any luck.

nice find thanks
Trying it now!

Yeah, I'm still having major issues. My phone will drop WiFi very often. Im going to try unsecured next. I've tried changing from tkip to are, tried turning off the sleep function... nothing. It happens most frequently when I'm doing heavy traffic like from or two another computer, where it maxes out the bandwidth capabilities of the phone...

My issue is that some apps don't work well with wifi, like google voice when sending txts (it just hangs then says times out)

i tried the sleep thing and still no luck i really dont want to switch my security on my router?

Have you double checked not only the advanced settings under Wifi for always on, but which battery profile you're running? The default profile is the Smart one, which disables wifi/3g after so many minutes of being idle after peak hours.
i will try this thanks i do use the smart profile
I read several articles and then under wireless security changed the WPA Algorithm to TPIK and have not had a drop or WIFI issue since. Let me know if it resolves your issue.

Wifi issues

Does anyone have issues staying connected to wifi on their Fascinate? It seems that I can only connect for a little bit until it cuts out. It still says I'm connected but if I use the internet it says connection lost. Then when I turn the wifi on and off it works for just a little bit again.
Any help would be appreciated but for all I know, I'm the only one with this problem.
Does it happen just at your home connection or other hotspots too?

FWIW, wifi was absolute junk on my Fascinate when I had the Wireless Tether app installed. After uninstalling it and switching to Barnacle for tethering, wifi performance improved tremendously. Not sure if that's your issue or not though.

Before updating my wireless driver on my laptop, I couldn't connect to the AdHoc network of Wireless Tether (2.0.6) at all...zilch.
After updating my Intel wireless driver to v13.4 directly from Intel, it found and connected to the AdHoc network immediately and is working great now. No wi-fi drops.
I'm going to try Barnacle next. Just wanted to point out that wifi can be drastically affected by your wireless network card's driver...so update it if you haven't. I prefer to update my wifi cards directly from their manufacturer's site instead of the computer manufacturer unless there is no other choice.
Good luck.

Wifi hotspot

Can someone point in the right direction where I can turn my phone into a wifi hotspot for free. I have tried wireless tether but doesn't seem to work, thanks in advanced.

are you rooted?
wireless tether works fine. Try disabling encryption and/or access control and see if it works that way
Yes I am rooted but I haven't tried what you suggested. Thanks and I will give that a go.

OK, so I tried everything you told me about but it still doesn't seem to work. Here is my situation, I recently got an iPad and want to use my phone as a hot spot so I can connect on the go. The wireless tether turns on but neither my mothers eve or my iPad seems to connect to it properly. They do connect but it doesn't let me do any kind of web browsing. Thanks again for any help.
Which app and version are you using?

Works fine for me... Not sure what the problem would be. Sure access control is off? When you connect your pc, what color is the shield that pops up in your notification bar?

This seems to be the problems on a number of roms. They only way I've been able to get my wifi tether to work is when I've been bone stock. I don't know what might be broken in the process of cooking up the roms for us but something is breaking it. I get the same issue. It connects to my phone but I get no internet signal. Access control and encryption off. Tried changing the ssid and that hasn't worked. They've been tryin to figure out what the problem is on the IRC channel

Not why it doesn't work but now I am on a bare stock rom and still a no go. I have tried connecting my moms evo and it just sits trying to obtain the ip address but for some reason it just never connects.

[Q] Wifi

is anyone having wifi issues where games disconnect and downloads have to be restarted alot?
Its neva happened to me using wifi, are you using other things at the same time? PS3? PC? I know my xbox tends to disconnect if im downloading somthing on the pc

Having the same issue
I don't have to be downloading anything, the phone could just be sitting there and the WIFI disconnects even with a app like SKYPE running in the back ground. My current internet is 20 meg down with 4 meg up and of all the devices this is the only one that disconnects or has any kind of connection issues.
Happens about 10 times a day. So annoying
Sent from my R800i using XDA Premium App
Yes, I get this with my PLAY.
No other devices have this problem in my house. Stable connection that is on all the time.
Really annoying in Rainbow 6, particulary since it doesn't seem to save your stats with you disconnect because of a Wi-Fi droput.
Also sometimes have problems when it comes out of sleep mode, have to turn off wifi, then on again on the PLAY.
Very annoying.
Could it be to do with the security settings on your routers? Mines set to WPA2 PSK with a 13 character password and its never dropped connection. Or could it be the make of your routers? Mines a Netgear router. If a few people post there setup maybe we can find a similarity between them and find out if it's the phone, router, setup or all of them that's the problem.
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
The distance you are to the router makes a big difference. I think the wifi receiver on the play is weaker then other devices.

Yes. I havent updated yet, I'm hoping that 2.3.3 will fix it.
It says I'm connected yet stops working. I have to turn off the wi-fi then turn it back on to get it working again.

I have the same security on mine. The router is wireless n from my provider. It ie a router modem in one.
I did back when I was on 2.3.2. It was so annoying. I could have 2 computers, an iPad, and my Play connected to the same router and only the Play would disconnect continually.
adb shove iPad2post.apk to /forum/thread
I have the same problem with 2.3.3 the wifi just keep disconnecting is really annoying. Does any one know if this is a bug or a real design or hardware problem that wont be fixed wit updates?
It's wifi range isn't as far reached as other devices.

Yes it works on other WiFi networks but does not mean the one I am having problems with is faulty cause other devices connect to it just fine. Not to mention it worked perfect on 4.2.2

I had the same issue before 4.3 update. It was working fine after the update but today it happened again. I switched to static ip in my nexus wifi settings and its working fine. So i guess DHCP has the problem and im blaming nexus because everything else in the same network works fine.

I have the same problem with my old generation nexus 7. New one works just fine, galaxy nexus - just fine, xperia s - also fine, macbook pro - fine. I can't blame the network. Something is messed up. I tried a factory reset (as I'm selling this one) and it didn't help. also after quite some time of trying it wrote "Avoided poor connection" under the name of my network, but I can't alter the "Avoid poor connections setting" from the setup wizard.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I think the problem is DHCP too. I used to use WPA2 for my LAN. My Nexus 4 appears to not connect to those networks anymore.

Tried to set a static IP address? And you could also playing with the WiFi frequency bands. Some reported they can't connect to WiFi on 5 GHz band. Could try the 2.4 GHz one instead.
In cases of weak signal, DHCP may fail when connecting. If this happens, move closer to the AP (stronger signal).
If you have 2 routers and use 1 as an access point, use the LAN (not WAN) port on the second router and disable the DHCP server on the same router. You can use the same SSID and float between them if the other settings match (encryption and password). Use 2 different channels as far apart as possible (like 1 and 11). On 2.4 GHz, only use channels 1 to 11. On 5 GHz, only use 36, 40, 44, 48, 149, 153, 157, 161, or 165. The other channels have FCC limitations in the US. Use WPA-2 only with CCMP (AES) encryption. WPA should only be used with TKIP, while WPA-2 should only be used with CCPM (AES). I have seen a lot of issues when mixed is used.
Hope this helps...
Thanks for the suggestions. While testing I was standing just beside my router, so no weak signal problem. What I did after many tries to connect was reinstall stock 4.3 but version which ended with the letter 'V'. I was unable to see my problematic android build version, because I was stuck at welcome screen. So the reinstall fixed it.
