It's not a plan, the term of the contract with VZW is "1 Month". But, it forces you into a 6-month "contract" with Wirefly, despite the fact that there's no discount or subsidy on the Xoom, and data is month-to-month with VZW. If you downgrade or drop the month to month data before the 6 months are up, Wirfely will charge you an ETF.

"Q. If I place a pre-order reservation, when will I receive my tablet?
A. We will begin shipping orders on the official Verizon Wireless launch date for the MOTOROLA XOOM tablet, which is currently February 23, 2011 but subject to change. If you order additional devices (such as with a family plan), we will hold your entire order until your MOTOROLA XOOM is ready to ship."
I dont like the subject to change part . Was hoping for a solid date. I would only order from wirefly if you were afraid it would sell out but I dont see that happening. Its unsubsidized and you are forced into a contract when you can just cancel from any other place. I wouldnt order from them

(Best buy has in their ad that it will be available in stores on the 24th!!) So i asked him where were they located (wirefly)..he said i can't disclose that info...lol...i told him no thanks.
I will just pre-order in bestbuy..no way i'm giving Wirefly $800 rofl..

Previous BB leaked ads, or was the the costco ad, had them being sold on the 24th.. but in stock as early as the 20th.. or the 22nd. I don't recall exact dates, but I do recall that they were going to be in store 2 days early at least. So the 23rd would be a shipment date to get them to consumer by the 24th. Wirefly probably gets them the 22nd.. ships them out the 23rd..

i have ordered from wirefly before, they are good. I got my old droid x from them. They usually sell items at a more discounted price though. Its probably because you arent locked into a contract.

Do you save tax purchasing from WireFly? That would be the only reason I would think they were worth buying from.

no, getting the xoom from wirefly would probably be the same as getting it anywhere else except the pre-order price gurantee. I dont know if other stores are offering that though i doubt the price of the xoom will change in 30 days unless it epic fail of a launch.

You are correct. The chance of a price change in 30 days would require virtually no sales. Though there is alway the super low chance that iPad2 could have some surprise up their sleeves that forces the XOOM to change its game.

i just ordered mine from wirefly. theres no best buy where i live right now and i cant wait until i move so i went on and pre-ordered it. Theres a radioshack here but they never get products when they are released so wirefly is my best bet on getting it asap.

Just placed a preorder. Hope I'm correct in assuming I won't be hit with the Wirefly 6 month ETF if I cancel the month-to-month plan within the first month.

This tells me you only need to use your one month and not the 6 month deal. Everything on wirefly is pretty much pre-written for cell phones which the xoom isnt. Of course Ill try to verify and double check. I suggest not canceling the contract though for that first month. That 1 month is required for wirefly. Like I said though i will contact them and verify

Cancelled my preorder, went and preordered at Best Buy. It was super easy.

$164.99 Pricing Error?

It sounds like that $164.99 upgrade pricing that was offered yesterday online to T-mobile customers might have been a mistake.
I was able to order the phone, and it shows that it's still processing in the order status.
Who else took advantage of the deal, and if so, has your order cleared?
I'm curious to see if T-mobile will honor this pricing if it really was a mistake.
Yep
I got mine for $164.99 and it says pending shipping, ETA Jul. 22nd (UPS Ground). The $75 downpayment is pending in my bank account.
If they try to renege on it, I'm done. As soon as my contract is up in 4 months, I'll be gone.
Yeah, I see the payment pending in my bank account as well. It does seem odd, since I technically wasn't eligible for fully discounted upgrade pricing for another few weeks.
I've been with T-mobile for 7 years with no issues so I'm on the fence about leaving if they don't honor the pricing. I'm sure they would offer the discounted rate of $199 - which is still very reasonable - if that $164 really is a mistake.
You can get the same phone on other carriers, but in the end you will pay the same $199 (or more with activation fees with a new provider).

Mine shipped. I already have tracking number. I can't see how they can charge more than confirmed. I have a printed order page. Actually, I went through Bing so I intend to insist on an additional 35% Bing cash back.
walmart has it for $99. including car adaptor.
Mine has shipped as well... I did the pay $64 up front and then add $33 to my bill for 3 months... They better not try to charge me more... thats actually why I bought it.. I didn't think i was eligable for an upgrade, but I decided to check anyways to see if Im able to get it for $199, then when I saw $164 I instantly purchased... maybe that was their plan!
went to a tmobile store and told them about the costco ad, they pricematched it for 99.99, no rebates, came out to 106 with tax
Rather upset, I didnt order online for the 164, I went into the store and it was 269. I'm only 2 months from the 199 upgrade price. They did the same **** when I bought the G1, overpriced me in the store.
I'm looking at filing some complaints against them with the BB and DA for price switching.
I have the print out of 169 to give to the Seattle DA for price switching.

You understand that you can still return the phone for a full refund. Right?
IW, I'm not supposed to call out people on these forums.. but re-read everything you are saying and use logic.
I dont see how this is any different if I go online and see 39.99 for an oil change, I go in and they charge me 59.99 because their computer says its 59.99. Thats wrong, and some states illegal.
No, its completely different. Maybe if you actually ordered online, you could draw that comparison. But the fact that they didn't give you full upgrade pricing when you aren't even eligible isn't dishonest at all.
The 165 pricing is still on their site? If it was a mistake I assume they would of fixed by now.

It's still there,164.99 .i just ordered another one for my wife.
Also, were only halfway through our 2 year contract.I don't get it,but hey thanks tmo!
Putting fairness and legality aside, it's pretty amazing how the story changes from customer to customer, as well as CSR to CSR. Whether or not it's right, it certainly has a car dealership feel to it.
I did, though, just get a text message saying my order will ship within the next seven days, so I guess I'm safe.
where do you people get this ? it was 199 yesterday and its 199 now.....
Funny thing is that for my family plan and another friend of mine it was $ 499 on the site. My friend hasn't upgraded in 4 years.

same on my 2nd tmo account, just checked.......$199 on one and $499 on another........dont see anywhere 164
Well I just recieved a text message with a tracking number and checking the tracking number USP says they've had it since 8:30 last night and will Already moved it to Nashville and will deliever it on Monday...
So I can't see in any way how T-Mobile would change the price on me now...
I got mine from tmobiles website for $164.99 as well and I'm only at 18 months out of 24. I went to a local store to play with the phone and told the sales person about the online price. She told me to go home and order it online since the best she could do for me in the store was $289. I got a text this morning with a tracking number.
I had read a rumor somewhere that the additional $35 discount was for original G1 owners. I have no idea if there is any truth to that, but my wife has a G1 and I had a G1 and have a MT3G and we both got the $164.99 upgrade price.

Wirefly, no activation fee, 8/23 only.

For the rest of the day you get no activation fee ($36) when you buy the Epic 4G.
They only charge $239 for the phone to begin with. Given that I live in CA my savings were:
Tax: $28
Activation Fee: $36
Discount: $10
Total: $74 saved
Also I am not sure if I will get it but entering code WIREFLYBLUE22 should give you a free Bluetooth headset. People are reporting a 83% success rate on the site I found the code listed.

Yup, thats going to be your out the door price. You could always try Best Buy or radio Shack to get the instant rebate at the counter
Tax with sprint or any other store at that will charge tax off of the base price not the discounted price I believe, thats over 40 bucks in CA.
So look for no taxes, if you are worried about that.

I bit the bullet with Wirefly. My advice for anyone else considering this option is make sure you understand exactly what they are doing with your Sprint account. Somehow the call center ppl put the wrong plan after I had told them many many times how I wasn't looking to change the plans on my account at all.
Has anyone else had good experiences with this company? They seem like a lot of frustration
Wirefly is sketch. They have this bull**** 6 month rule when you cancel your new contract within 6 months with any of the carriers, then they bill you $300 for "equipment recovery fee". So, for Verizon, I got hit with $375 from Verizon for ETF and $300 from Wirefly for a ****ing Droid 1 that I bought for $189. Do the math. They ****ing tried to rape me. AND, on top of that, they charged $300 to the same debit card I used to do the original transaction about EIGHT MONTHS after I originally did business with Wirefly. They did that illegally without my permission. They had paper billed me for it and I was telling myself "no way they're getting $300 when the phone was only worth $449".. then a $300 charge from "Simplexity" shows up on my bank statement.
Hate Wirefly. And, their "discounts" aren't even ****ing discounts. $10 off a phone? Give me a break.
I got the phone from Wirefly. I knew going into it the 6 month rule and I do not plan on making any changes or cancelling in that time. Also they have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, so I can return in 30 days without issue.
I know they have a bad rep, but here is why I got it from them anyway.
No tax in California

Samsung Epic 4G $199.99 on Amazon.com

EDIT: The phone seems to be back in stock online. Still says ships in 8-9 days.
Amazon.com just got the EPIC 4G on their site for preorders, it's $199.99 with new contract, or $499.99 without any service. Best deals I've seen anywhere. If these don't sell out, I bet it'll hit $150 by september 1st. This is just great if you are a new customer on Sprint.

Kinda blows if you're an existing one though...
Does sprint allow you to cancel and then sign up as a new contract? Because of the pro-rating of their cancellation fees, it would be significantly cheaper to get the discounted Amazon phone (even better if it follows the other Galaxy S phone pricing) than it would be to buy the unsubsidized Epic.

You mean cancel your current sprint plan, then take the amazon.com epic deal with a brand new contract? I think you can do that. However like you said, there is the prorated early termination fee, and you also need to consider that you would of course lose your current phone number. You could of course also switch to a prepaid account with some other carrier for a week or so though, and just port your number over a lot, but that could be a bit risky/flawed.
If you wanted to buy a cheap amazon epic 4g then cancel right after though, you'd pay a ton, amazon.com would hit you with early cancel charges, as would sprint.
If you cancel your contract, you have to wait 90 days before you can qualify for new customer pricing on devices.

Yes, I meant the first part. Cancel my sprint contract (and risk losing the #), then rejoin sprint on the cheaper (possibly much cheaper) amazon phone deal. Switching phone numbers isnt always a bad thing.
$199 wow! Way to stick it to Wirefly and their cheapo $10 off price.
I'm currently on the $30 SERO plan, and converting to either a 5-line EPRP, or a 5-line corporate discount plan. I guess there's no way in hell I can do either one thru Amazon.

Aha, thanks for the definitive answer. Could a family member qualify immediately? We don't share a last name.
Oh man Amazon is annoying, is there any way to see the final review order page without submitting the credit check info? I'd assume they don't actually perform the credit check until you submit the order, but I'd rather not take that risk, especially just to see a check-out price! I just want to see if they charge taxes and activation.

I'm kinda regretting reserving through Radioshack now!
$250 + taxes comes out to around $270. I'm assuming Amazon will provide Prime shipping and next day shipping being around $20 bucks.

From what I was told at the Sprint store, its a total of $240 early termination, or $10 a month, for each of the 24 months of the 2 year contract.
The longer you have the contract, the lower the termination fee is.
Does Amazon charge an activation fee of $36 per line? Also has anyone purchased from them before? Just wondering if they would actually ship the phone on 8/31 and if the return policy is any good? Thanks in advance.

Someone said Wirefly requires you keep data service for at least 6 months - not sure though - something to check into if you don't plan on keeping data.
I'll be pre ordering mine tomorrow! - Though its probably not necessary as lots of places near by will be getting them and I doubt there will be a huge amount of people waiting to get one at the current price - but just to be safe haha.

thats only for under contract deals. ive ordered from them before so i know the process. when you order a device at a subsidized price (lets say an evo) you can get it at a lower price than other places. At Sprint its on sale for 199 but if you get it at wirefly then its 149.99 with a 2 year contract. The thing is you have to have their service uninterrupted for 6 months or you pay an ETF. With something thats not in a contract you are only obligated for that one month and you are out of their hands.

thats only for under contract deals. ive ordered from them before so i know the process. when you order a device at a subsidized price (lets say an evo) you can get it at a lower price than other places. At Sprint its on sale for 199 but if you get it at wirefly then its 149.99 with a 2 year contract. The thing is you have to have their service uninterrupted for 6 months or you pay an ETF. Yeah that makes sense, I just thought I read that someone said Wirefly requires they own 2nd party contract for 6 months - I was glancing through quickly and didn't pay much attention though
Give them a call or live chat. You must keep the data plan for at least 6 months, or be charged $300 Wirefly ETF

Yeah, don't but from wirefly, they require a 6 month contract with no benefit to you. They probably don't even have them and just resell for verizon but get the activation credit, hence you having a contract.
Its unfortunate that there was no mention of that wifi model. Damn.

I just went to bestbuy and pre-ordered mine. The guy said i have two options get the month-to-month but i was required to do at least 1 or 2 months, or the other options was to setup a one year contract and knock 300 from the price.

I'll call to ask about that 1 year contract. I bet there is a catch. Such as having to use a 50$ a month plan. I can't imagine they would give you 300$ off on the 20$ a month plan, as that would be only 120$ over the course of a year. Speaking of this. I would probably get a data plan permanently if they rolled data over.
You mean 240$?

$300 off the price? That's not a bad deal if you can get the $20/month plan. $500 + roughly $275 plus taxes over the course of 12 months versus $800 + $55 plus taxes all at once.
Reading from "Best Buy News" which I assume is something internal, the girl in mobile confirmed that only month-to-month data plans were available from Verizon at this time. She confirmed that they have ZERO word of any sort of 1 year or 2 year commitment or subsidy.

I guess nothing official has been sent out. The guy said he would have more information on the release date. Which is kind of weird!!!

Whoa! Got mine for 199 without contract!

So i am not up for upgrade until march 2012 but i decided to check and see what the OTD price was thru att for the atrix on my account. I pulled it up, and oddly enough it showed 199!
I went through the checkout process, but it wouldnt fully process the final checkout because i have unlimited data and i wouldnt pick a new data plan. Instead, i printed out my cart showing the final price of 199 + tax and took it into our local ATT store.
Talked to the manager there and he said he'd grandfather my data plan in, AND honor the price given on the website! so i'm getting my atrix tuesday morning for 199 even tho i just used my upgrade for my captivate in july!
SO STOKED!
How did you manage to get it for that price online? I'm in the same boat as you, I upgraded to my captivate in august and i'm not due for upgrade until 2012
If this is true, can you provide a few more details? I would also love to give this a shot.
Holy cow. Is there any way this is possible if you aren't a current AT&T customer? Lol

When they pay $500 for a phone it doesn't make sense for them to sell it for $200 without contract. It would never be able to happen in my store and my manager is extrememely lenient.

Wtf.........
Well, luckily with AT&T no phone of mine has ever really been "on a contract"... When I called the cancellation dept to preorder my Atrix....errr.... "switch to Verizon or Sprint".... They told me if I stayed, they'd cancel the last 10 months of my contract if i signed a new 2 year contract...and they gave me the Atrix for $174.99 with free overnight and no upgrade fee.... This is the same trick I pulled when I upgraded my phone last time 1 year into my 2 year contract! In other words, their "contract" is really BS if you talk to the right person in the cancellation dept who will keep throwing it out the window to keep you as a customer.

Nice!! Ive never tried that thinking they might go ahead and just cancel my service instead of giving me what I really want lol
Don't worry about having that happen. The goal of their "cancellation dept" is to do just the opposite. It should be named the "retention dept"! The first thing the guy told me on the phone (which was kinda cheesy) was "I'm superman and I have superpowers to keep you a satisfied AT&T customer!" And he did indeed have the superpower to throw my existing contract out the window and alter the presale price of the Atrix. Just call up, act dissatisfied with your current phone...ask how much your termination fee is...point out that it's cheaper for you to switch carriers than pay full price for the phone... then you're on your way to a new cheap phone! :-D

honestly all i did was log into my account on ATT, click the line i wanted to upgrade, and picked the atrix. it showed 199 instead of 499 even though my page said 'i am eligible to take advantage of their no commitment pricing until 2012'
i just noticed right now when i tried logging back into my ATT account i got this message:
We are in the process of enhancing our online experience and it is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience; if you need immediate assistance, please contact customer service at:

so maybe it was a fluke or something? but i had printed out the confirmation pricing page and stuff and they are going to match it at the store since i wanted to keep my unlimited data package.
im sorry i cant provide more details, i dont really know how i managed this i'm just sharing my excitement
when i'm able to get back into my ATT account ill post screen captures
i ordered mine on the website out of contract, have my receipts showing the 199 price, lol. it was a flaw in the preorder website for the phone,it was because of the dock price, a att rep just reported to me. they called me and told me they would be canceling my order and redoing it at the full price,as it was an error, i told them to cancel my contract while they were at it,if they weren't going to honor a price i agreed to pay, they then agreed to let me buy the phones at the 199.99 price

Lol!! I guess that proves that "the customer is always right."
I did almost the same thing. I bought the inspire for 99 on a new service contract. I then went online 3 days later to see what the price of the atrix would be without contract. When I got to check out it was $199. The phone is now in the hands of fedex for delivery tomorrow.
The AT&T site has been down since some time last night! Maybe they are trying to fix this "glitch" lol!!
yeah i am guessing they are fixing it now. i just know i printed mine out and have an appointment on tuesday to get mine ha

still got a copy of that printout?
Same here. Bought a Captivate back in July '10, iPhone 4 in Nov '10, my line (the Captivate) was only ~7 months into my current 2 year contract.
Last Wed (the 16th) went through the normal process, added the phone as an "upgrade" for me, went in the cart for $199, changed (again, right online) from the $30 Unlimited Data to $30 Unlimited Data w/ HSPA+
I *suspect* this was simply an early upgrade allowance (plus pre-order discount), and I'll be into a brand new 2 year contract.
Phone is on the FedEx truck due to be delivered today (in the next hour or so).
