Some questions about flashing a rom

i recently rooted my epic and am on 2.2 froyo dk28 build. i want to try the nebula rom. my clockwork version looks like to to low to be able to do the nebula rom.... How do i update it/where do i find a different version? and also where is the dk28 modem that it says i need. any help greatly appreciated!

Nebula rom is a great choice. You'll want to search for one click root 2.5.5 download it, unzip it, click run and it will put clockwork 3.x on there and convert all your files to ext4. Before you reboot do the wipe x3 then flash your rom everything should be good to go.

i did use the 2.5.5 to root my phone, and it put clockwork mod 2.5.1.0 on my phone.....
edit: nevermind i found the cwm 3.0+ zip file. going to do that now, however, i still need this modem thing that they are talking about in the thread, does anyone know anything about that?

No if you already have the dk28 rom on there you are good to go.

thank you so much for the help! one more question, when i flash this rom, what option do i choose: "apply update from sd card" or "install zip from sdcard"?
nevermind, i did some reading looks like its "install zip from sdcard"

"install zip from sd card" then pick "choose zip to install" and it will let you install the zip without renaming it.

Also one last thing if you don't know how to odin back to stock I suggest reading up to it. It's very useful if anything screws up......there is a wiki page on it.

Can't get into clockwork recorvery -__-

I go to ROM Manager, download the latest recovery, go to reboot to recovery, and as the stock recovery flashes the update.zip to get into clockwork, it blanks then the "samsung" boot up screen comes up and it goes into the stock recovery. I downloaded the newest clockwork recovery dozens of times, tried flashing older versions and ROM Manager says there's an error...this started happening when I flashed the newest version onto my phone I believe. Why is this happening???

Did you also flash CWM recovery in Odin? Because you won't be able to access it without doing that. There are instructions on how to do this in the development section.

Well on rom manager, it gives me the option to flash it straight from my phone. That's how I always got clockwork but now it hasn't been working since the latest update

Use odin to flash CWM found here. Then delete rom manager and forget it exists.

CWM
I always lose the "red" CWM. I will use the green as long as I can. It is the only one that boots consistently.

Updating to EB01 radio through CWM

Is there a way to update to the eb01 radio using a .zip and flashing through cwm. I don't have the ability to use odin so that is not an option. Thanks.

Heimdall is what you want if you can't use Odin.
I assume you aren't using windows.

The only reason I thought there might be is that when you receive an ota to a new build your phone radio gets updated too. How can we not find a way to update through cwm then?

I'd be interested in this too. For some reason, I can't seem to get my PC to recognize a friend's phone, either USB, or download mode, but my device works just fine, so this would help, as the tard accidentally tried updating to EA28 when she was on a rooted DL09, and it borked her phone up.
Any suggestions ????

how do you get heimdall to install on ubuntu? it's not in the software center, and it won't let me install it when I download it through ftp.

Heimdall does not work on my osx version and on their website it says only works with fascinates on froyo, and says find a way to get there first. B/C of bootloader issues with 2.1

Rom manager won't flash recovery

I need help bad..i was able to root my vibrant with superoneclick,but rom manager won't flash the recovery. During the flashing sequence it fails..I'm on whitehawks odin deodexed stock kc1 rom.any suggestions. Im stuck on stock and want some trigger rom

I had same issue a while back. What i did, using kernel flasher from market, i flashed the stock+voodoo t959 kernel and it gave me cwm. Youll find it in bible

I flashed the Captivate CWM and it worked just fine. No ill side effects so far....

he's not using a sgs4g hes just using a port of the sgs4g rom on the vibrant

Rooting apk for galaxy 2.3.4

Looking for an apk that will do this for me as z4root and gingerbreak won't work.

If you want root, why don't you flash a custom kernel, then boot into recovery and you will find an option for root built in, most will even install superuser for you too, with one click.

Tried using rom manager, 1 click speedmod but cant unless the phone is rooted

You need to look at the threads in Dev section for the likes of speedmod or Galaxian Kernels, you download the kernal and Odin, connect the phone in download mode and then flash the kernal as PDA (i think), then reboot your phone, reboot again into recovery and you will have CWM built in with root options, no need for rom manager...
Just make sure you pick the right Kernel for your current rom!!!

Since 2.2.1 it's been impossible to root the SGS without outside tools.
What are you hoping to accomplish?

I dont know maybe a portable root unroot apk for gingerbread, I can do it by pc but it would be good to do it via apk

I think he know to root via install custom kernel, but he want to find another root menthod using app on the phone, doesn't need PC to flash custom kernel

so it DOES exist. seems some i9000 users were able to make use of the apk successfully, while most were not. and this is with 2.3.3. i suppose the chances of it working on 2.3.4 are even more unlikely.

Gingerbread
I know of no apk.
Unfortunately the first root has to be done via Odin. All other rooted roms can be done via clockwork mod. Rom manager screws up when using it from desktop. 2 roms come into my thoughts: Cognition and Insanity. I downloaded a 3.3.4 rom, in the past and flashed via Odin and totally bricked my other phone. You can use Samfirmware.com for the latest secure rom and then find a rooted rom , of the same number and flash via Odiin.

Super 1 click must have a kernel which is unlocked to root the rom.
