has ANY ONE rooted/flashed the AT&T flipout yet? - Flipout and Charm General

Got an AT&T flipout. Motoblur is horrible, otherwise a solid phone. I've had trouble finding a WORKING rooting guide on here. Has any one successfully flashed or rooted the flipout in the US?
I've been a G1 owner so I'm not a beginner over flashing/root access. If I could just get it rooted I can live with using titanium backup to uninstall all the **** apps.
Any help?

Theres a rooting guide on here, for att you dont have the unknown sources option in devtools so youll have to install the apk over adb but once i installed the app it worked like a charm for me

the first post has all I needed to root
and for adb its pretty easy to learn what you need using what google has out there, there might be some moto drivers I'm forgetting about, but if there are I probably found them on here, just explore a bit more

Hello, I'm a noob here as you can tell. xD
I've been trying to root my phone in order to install the app2sd and other 3rd party apps and root apps
.apk but since att phones can't install 3rd party apps, I can't manage to install the Androot app.
How can i bypass this?
Is there a simple way?
hey! i was in your spot not too long ago (about being a n00b.)
the easiest thing you can do is:
1) go to the android central sideload wonder machine. (google it)
2) install universal androot.apk (again, google is your best friend! )
3) Follow the steps. Install with superusser!
If you need more help, PM me.
Remember, if i helped you, PLEASE click thanks.
SWM doesn't seem to work

I rooted the flipout using the file from this post

which is this attachment:

I believe it's an older version of SuperOneClick that works OK with android 2.1 that flipout has
I had problems using SuperOneClick, so I did it using an older version of UniversalAndroot which I used for my other phone. You download it straight to your phone by accessing this link tinyurl.com/urooted.
how do you UNroot a device?
I though that by restoring to factory defaults the root would be gone but i was wrong!
can any one help me in rooting motorola CHARM
can we root motorola charm using super one click

[Q] Trying to root on mac...

Trying to root my epic on my mac and cant seem to find anything that really seems to work, I am really starting to doubt my own intelligence at this point and really don't want to screw up my new phone....any help or a rooting for morons walkthrough would be helpful, thanks so, so much!
you could always run windows virtualized on your mac and do it that way
Try this thread.

it worked, thank you so much, i dont know why i couldnt find that before, thanks a lot!
You could have also used an app called z4root.
You are welcome. It can be difficult to find info in the forum but that is the link I used to root my epic back in April and I had the linked stored so it was easy to send it your way.
Z4root works if you just want root but if you want to install custom roms you need clockwork. The link I have allows you to root and instal clockwork.

If you downloaded root but it didnt actually root your phone, this may be your prob

My problem was that I would download SuperOneClick and it would not give me actual root. The SuperUser icon was in my app drawer but if I tried to use any apps that required root access they wouldnt let me. When I opened Super Manager and clicked "Enable Root Access" a popup would come up and it would say something like "Your ROOT image will not work" or something like that.
The problem was this:
I found out that I had downloaded the most recent version of SuperOneClick. This version will not give root if you had the official 2.2. update. You needed to download the 1.5.5 version.
I hope this will help anyone who made the same mistake as me.
anybody? im freaking out since no one else has had this problem.
Try enable USB debugging
Settings > Applications > USB Debugging > Enable.
You should repost the OP with the solution in case someone else has the problem, if not people will search in vain.

Thanks alecjake, I am on ka6 and have heard there were issues with the latest SuperOneClick. Odd that an older version can root froyo but the newer version can't. Very helpful advice.

One thing you also want to do, is after using superoneclick is to reboot. That way root actually works.

root
I also have problems with rooting my andriod, I ran Titanium Backup but it required root access to work, so I downloaded z4root and universal root apk, it says that my phone is rooted but still Titanium Backup cant detect any root access.
Also my Link2sd App(app2sd alike) also requires root, I think I rooted my phone but still doesn't work. A noob like me really need your help guys.. thanks in advance..
BTW i am running 1.6 andriod firmware.
Easiest way I've found is to use AIO Vibrant Toolbox. I'm on my phone so I can't link it but just go to the development section and look for the post with the program name in the thread title. It's super easy to root with it. Just follow the included directions!

1.6? do you have a t959 vibrant? if you do, you need to get to stock 2.1 JFD, then you can follow these instructions:

or go with the AIO toolbox which is more user friendly

[Q] How to r00t Samsung GALAXY Tab?

Apologies if there are similar threads.
I am looking for an 'easy way' to root my GALAXY Tab. I have used the android z4root application but it didn't successfully root my device and just hung for a while and did nothing.
I would like to know if there is another way to root the device. I want to have root so that I can slightly overclock the CPU, for now I am not majorly interested in custom ROMS as I know there still in early stages of development.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks peeps!
Same here. Z4root crashes on my device with latest firmware
I installed the tools with OCLF one click lag fix then ran z4root. You can also install busy box with Titanium before you get root.

Thanks, but is there no tutorial on XDA that explains in detail how you can go about rooting your device. I've not be able to find anything with the search tool...?
With z4root being so easy and available on so many devices, alot of the tutorials with adb push (or what ever) or how to manually root have disappeared with few exceptions. Now it seems people find work arounds to Get z4root to work as the alternative is more difficult. It took a very long time to root on my SGT. On my DroidX it took three times to work and root.
And to the poster above about OCLF. I did the Install ext2Tools. The OneClickLagFixv2.2+ became available. When I run the OCLF 2.2+ I get an error with code: Could not mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 onto /dbdata/rfsdata: mount: device or resource Busy.
I rooted with z4root first and then VZW Tab bootstraper by Koush CWM which converted to EXT4, then I ran OCLF EXT2Tools. Would this be an issue? Sorry I'm a bit new to SGT.
And I don't mean to hijack thread. Tia

[Q] Most difficult root process EVER

I've been spending days trying to figure out how to root this darn phone and it's driving me insane! It seems like every program or file I need is outdated or no longer exists. There are dozens of guides for different ways to root and they all seem to be outdated! I tried going through most of them and from what I've found, they all require stuff that is outdated and no longer has download links.
I can't find a direct link to the most recent HTC Glacier driver for Windows, HTC Sync doesn't notice the phone, and Android SDK Manager/Eclipse won't open up (even with updated Java). So I don't know what's going on with that. I have a GSN2 and successfully and easily installed the drivers for it, but this phone is being stubborn as hell.
I need a link to the most recent and properly working guide for the root process. If any experienced myTouch modder could direct me to the best guide out, I would greatly appretiate it. I feel like my brain is going to explode!

ok first you need to understand how to use a few of the android tools. you dont need the entire android-sdk and definitey dont need to use eclipse to root your phone. all you need are two tools from the android-sdk, fastboot and adb. I'm not sure which guides youve been following but heres a link to one that i promise will contain everything you need including links to all the tools.
