I have always been a fan of using the slimmest of slim roms, so I thought I would share mine with you.
I had good responses from the few who have tried the rom, all fans of slim super skinny roms. So thank you Cypher_X, Marvinph, and Zurchpet, and to all Doc testers and helpers.. I'm sure I have been persistent recently
This is Stock JS5
It is fully Deoxed and Zip aligned using cygwin (a great tool).
I have removed almost every apk.
Removed a lot of other system files.
I have left it on stock theme.
Removed Touchwiz and installed Zeam as standard launcher.
Hardcores K13a Kernel is included (Thanks Hardcore).
I have included the free edition of Titanium.
CSC is XEU standard , the modem is TLJL3
Installation from CWM.
Boot into recovery.
Factory reset/wipe
Flash the Rom
Once installed, go and clear Dalvik.
Reboot, it can take up to 5 minutes.. As long as you see the blue S your good.
Grab the rom
v1.5 with K13b here
v1.4 with
SpeedMod K13b Kernel here.
or v1.3 with
Firebird kernel here
If you like my wallpaper you can have it. Click here.
To Do list.
Sell it to an iphone user
I will be updating this thread as often as possible.
I don't want credit as it was other people who have got me to this point.
I have to say a Very Big thanks to DocRambone for pointing me in the right direction, and also for providing many great roms over the last 6 months. A true master.
Thank You to Hardcore for the kernel, another master.
Stefunel and Thomas for the kitchen. One great asset to the Galaxy S scene. Thanks to Tegrak you have opened up a whole new can of worms for many people (I'm a great fan), I didn't have the balls to install it on my 1st rom though.
Dsixda for the HTC Kitchen, worked a dream.
Daneshm90 for his signature, that really helped..
A big thanks to all other Devs, using your rom's / kernels is teaching me a lot.

reserved for the future

I think your missing the link to the rom. There is no clicky for the rom, there is one for the kernal. Also what launcher are you using?

Thank you for that.. It was the correct link. My grammer was not great.
I hope you like it

wow slim roms seem to be all the rage these days...
well done OP

I have been a great fan of the Skinny Roms.. This way you can build it yourself.
Once you have played with your phone for a week or so, the novelty of all the features wares off, you know what you want, you will have a titanium folder full of the apps you like. So why not start with a bare rom
--------------------------------------------------------------
I missed something out on the call record phone.apk
Please install this over it if you wish to use caller record either from CWM or extract and paste the files.
Until v1.3 anyway

This ROM is so fast, I love it. It boots super quick, and once a I put a theme on it and changed a few things it will be my day to day ROM.

This looks interesting, downloading..

Thank you. I agree also. Day to day it works very well.
Update. For v1.3 (available over the next 24/48 hours)
I have taken another 2+ mb out of framework-res.apk.
Replaced the phone recorder with the .zip in the post above.
Removed vpnservices and the tethering apk's (not sure about tethering though, it can be helpful)
To do
Compress the apps.
See what else can be taken out, but make sure this is stable.
I really need your input though please. I have a GT-I9000 so I know nothing about the captivate. I use the k13 kernel in my other thread as it is stable and great, but my daily kernel is tegrak as it is super fast and great on battery at the same time.
If you want anything included. Let me know.

I was about to flash this until I saw that you took out the tethering option. Please don't, I need that
If you add that back in I'll give it a try.

Hi. Not removed from this.
The above post is for v1.3.
Still work in progress. I will not remove tethering. It is handy when no wifi is available. Like once in a blue moon
Edited my post
Thanks

Ahh ok. I thought you just hadn't updated the OP yet. I'll give it a try once you post 1.3 (given it doesn't have tethering snipped out).
Also, I don't know much of anything about rom development, but I'd suggest including the suckerpunch kernel or at least make sure they're compatible. It's becoming more and more popular and I would love to run these two side by side.
Edit: lol just saw your edit. Good to know, thanks

It is compatible with Suckerpunch since it's an i9000 ROM. Some people like Suckerpunch, others don't. Personally it's what I use day to day.

SuckerPunch was ok, but it gave me mounting issues. Just keep that in mind. I am not saying it wasn't fixed, but that is why I didn't use it as the default Kernel in my ROMS(Phoenix, FireFly(passed on to Xtreme) and now SuperNova). Take a look at DG's newest update to his FireBird kernel. That is smooth as butter with no issues to report. Just a thought though, it is your ROM after all
Edit: Every device is different, keep that in mind

Hi. My phone is the GT-I9000 so I can not use any Captivate kernels.
I require any input from you guys to devliver that you want from a Rom..
Thanks
Tricky103

I personally use suckerpunch, but Firebird or speedmod are probably the best choices so you wont have people with bad oc/UV blaming it on your ROM.

Yeah actually that's probably for the best. I doubt any number of disclaimers would keep people from blaming your rom.

Question
Is this rom flashable with the AIO Captivate Tool? Does it install just like a 2.2 or a 2.2.1 rom? How is it that all the other 2.3.3 roms there are alot more needed instructions for install and not this?
Hey Bada,
Just something I'm toying around with while on business travel.
Took a shot at a purple Swype theme to go with your new 2.3.3. ROM.
Whaddya think? Be honest. I can take it.

By the way the modems that you linked to are basically CWM3 compatible, I did not test all of them for CWM2.5 but I think they should work as I had left a copy of the 2.5 update script in the zips as well. So depending upon which recovery you are using, they may or may not work.
why are people hating on this rom? its by far my favorite. speed and looks exactly right! fantastic job man i love it. its working flawlessly for me with one of the talon hourlies. People this rom is incredible stop the hating

(ROM) Biffmod Cappy v1.3 - 2.3.5 AOSPish (8-10-2011)

Now available on rommanager and the Biffmod home page http://ibmirror.us/biffmod
Biffmod for cappy is here. I think you'll enjoy it.
The goal here was to create a stock 2.3.5 feel for the cappy , preserve the customization options of Cyanogenmod, and add the features I felt were missing.

2. Select ROM in Rom manager
3. Select wipe data, cache, dalvik
4. PROFFIT!!!!!
No need to odin back to stock before flashing this and GB bootloaders aren't required
if the glitch kernel freaks out on you... you may need a different leakage version. Source code and updates for glitch kernel, can be found in the following thread ------->http://bit.ly/pNkURn
CHANGELOG:
v1.3- Initial release and port from samsung vibrant, relatively untested
Seems interesting...i'll try it out tonight.
As shall I... I doubt many people here will get the KingKlick reference lol (I'm from way back... G1 days). Great to see you deving for Captivate, biff.
you guys are officially testers. Please let me know any bugs or issues you have. Cappy and Vibrant are basically the same so i think i pulled it off proper, but since i don't have the device, its not possible to know. Once you all confirm its as stable as it should in theory be, i'll push to rom manager and start doing biweekly updates.
Sounds good. I won't be using Glitch though, I'm currently testing a kernel of my own (in my sig). TK-Glitch was the dev of Gitch kernel btw
I will give a try also this night!

That's what the OP says. If you have issues, then they're most likely caused by your GB bootloaders. Give it a try, worst that can happen is that you have to go stock. (disclaimer: worse can happen if you really, really, really screw up and I'm not responsible)
+1. I have jvp installed. With gb bootloaders. Do I have to-
1. flash to stock eclair
2. flash to stock gb
3. just wipe and flash?

Sure thing. The ROM's been great so far, no issues except for a soft reboot, then when it booted it hard rebooted. Just a one time thing, and I've used the phone plenty since then, so I don't think it's anything to worry about.
Gonna flash here in about 15 minutes...i'll let u know what I think, preety excited for something different!

[ROM][2.3.5] MaxQ ROM KJ3/KK4 - Sparko ROM KK4 ICS Themed

This is my first ROM release...ever. I'm no dev but I've been around for quite a while and have learned quite a bit from a lot of people here so thought I'd give it a shot.
I set out to develop this for myself because I had been running MIUI for a while and really enjoyed its beauty but just couldn't stand battery life any longer. I wanted a ROM that was simple and good looking with good performance and with great battery life. I've finally put together something I really love so I thought it would be wrong of me not to share it with the community.
Considering this is my first release, there may be issues (in addition to what I've already listed below) so please post them here and if I can't help then hopefully somebody with more experience can chime in. Enjoy!
Since this is a GB ROM, you must be on i897 GB Bootloaders.

A note on the themes. Very little of the theme work is my own. It's basically one big mashup of several themes I find are the best with only a few of my additions. All credit should go to the original creators (unfortunately I can't remember who all they were).
Standard disclaimer: I am not responsible if something happens to your phone, yourself, or your personal/love life by flashing this. Again, this is something I put together for myself and it's been great for me so I just thought I'd share it.

4. Shut down phone and remove SIM & External SD card
5. Boot into Recovery and perform Wipe data/Factory Reset to be safe.
6. Select "Install Zip from SD Card"
7. Profit! I mean, enjoy.
Looking forward to try it.

I honestly can't remember the name. It came from a set of wallpapers from long ago but I actually pulled that one from the Pinnacle SDCARD folder. After flashing, it will be in a folder titled "MaxQ" in the SDCARD.
Thanks for sharing your work.
You had me at when you said you couldn't stand MIUI battery life (no pressure though).
I am expecting a good battery life out of your ROM plus theme looks awesome.
Downloading now. Will report back after install.
Sweet! thank you for this!

Thanks for sharing. The Captivate Development community is still very much alive and kicking!
Thanks for sharing. It looks nice. Thanks for the credit too. I'm happy to see all these new ROM makers, I just hope there will be room for the one I'm working on.
Wow a non-stock theme that isn't gaudy and horrible. I'm going to flash this!
Nice
You have competition/brothers with Serenity, Illuminance. There is another but the dev only asks for donations. No competition there!!!!
Good luck and keep working it!!

There's always room for others. There's also plenty to be learned from eachother, as you've shown.

Umm.. Yeah. I seem to have sorta kinda misplaced the bootanimation. Where might I replace it?

Uhhh yeah whoops, my fault. Looks like I omitted that. I'm uploading a new version now. Sorry about that.
Edit: For now I've attached it. Just drop in /system/media.
Great
This rom looks awesome. I couldnt agree more with the person that said it was nice to see a rom without a gaudy look to it. Clean and simple with a nice bunch of awesome batt tossed in to boot......
I've had good luck fixing the KJ3 gallery issue with overwriting the standard KJ3 file with the one I've attached. Worked on the KJ3 leak as well as a couple KJ3 derivations I've tried.
Just use a file manager to copy it over the Gallery3D.apk in the system/apps directory and reboot the phone. That's it.

yes, no more updates sinse codename is discontinued, no more development on cna, so djsound based his rom on slim ics, who wants an old and not updated ics rom.
CNA isn't done... They are having problems with members, are they done. NO! Don't spread lies please...

No stock browser And I know it's still in beta, but this ROM comes with a lot of bloatware, IMO. I like all the customization, but don't care for many of the apps preloaded on here. Others may feel different, sure, but that's just my two cents. I look forward to watching this ROM grow.

I totally agree with u....they started with a base rom under 120mb and tripled its size. The options are nice, but I think most rom flashers already have there go to kernel and modem on the phone to flash to.

about that, i specified in the OP that you must choose custom installation and there you can choose the apps that you want installed in the rom, like the stock browser but you must choose the first kernel that says slim default if you dont select the kernel you will have the otherone you have previously
I havent really delved too much in to this ROM, but when choosing apps I noticed the Google Chrome browser, but not the stock android browser. I may have missed it

Believe me its there in the aroma installer
I believe you. After I leave the office I'll have more time to fiddle with this ROM. I look forward to all the custom options this rom offers. Thanks.

it is fast, it is stable and customizable indeed, but nothing works for me i mean only thing i can do is sending/receiving an sms
whatever ringtone or default notification i choose does not matter it does have no sound, everything i correct in stteings, it just does not make any sound. I try to play some music with player no sound again
i can call and receive a call but i can't hear anything and they can't hear me on other side either
i tried flashing few times, default, cutomized, with advised kernel, without advised kernel, but glitch and having always same results.
every other rom works just fine, this is sad as i really liked it
Same prob with sound. Also my camera won't work. I get an error unable to connect to camera!

Thanks for keeping GB alive. I'm too afraid of the EU bug to try ICS. I'll be trying this out today.
My backup captivate's auction ends in 5 hours. That is just enough time to test this before it goes to its new home!

There was a Fusion CM9 build a while back. But unless a cause or cure for the EU bug comes up it is unlikely.
However I did see the nexus got jelly bean so you never know what might pop up.

Okay time to break the seal on noob questions..
Why did it take convincing to post this?
I'm not able to do an exhaustive search because I don't have my laptop with me. If coming from an ICS AOKP ROM, do I have to take special steps, or can I wipe and flash from recovery? My kernel is clockwork based, but I'm not sure if I need to change bootloaders.
Thank you for your work! I basically went straight from froyo into ICS, so I'm curious to see what the GB hype is all about. It seems that there are diehard GB users out there.

the reason it took some convincing for me to do this is I am actually a themer for The Collective not a dev. The extremely talented dev I theme for crt60 has been trying to get me to do a ROM for a while now and MPD ROM is the result.
So if your coming from an ICS based ROM you will have to use Odin to reformat the partitions on your sd card ICS uses a diffrent partition table. I highly recommend the KK4 with repartition by 4-2ndtwin found here then flash the CWM kernel (link in op). You will need to be on I897 GB bootloaders I am not real sure what bootloaders the ICS ROMs use but you can chek your current ROM's thread to find out. If you end up needing them the one clicks linked above has a version with and without bootloaders.
there are a few reasons for the die hard GB fans, there has been a lot of development on GB and some of the features haven't quite made it to ICS yet. There is also the EU bug that has some users afraid of rendering thier device useless from running an ICS ROM. Lastly and I'm prolly gonna open a can of worms on this one but battery life (from what I hear) is better on GB.
Can mods and themes from Legend 4 be used on this rom ?
Edit: I don't think so. I tried the circle battery and on reboot it never got past the boot animation
Signature Block...
Good job Rob, I am sitting here laughing to myself… It only took 3 days for you to put your own ROM in your signature block.
Now people will find it… LOL :highfive:
