[Q] Android Market on Vega 1.09 - Vega General

Hi all,
First of all thanks to all for the useful info. Been browsing this site (and modaco) for a while now. Finally got my Vega today
Apologies for the n00b question but....
Managed to sort out USB drivers (despite Win 7 x64... ) and updated to 1.09 from the official vega site. Now I'm trying to get the market working - put the OGMarket update (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931337) on my SD card and installed the google framework, market etc... and I can get the market to run, however whenever I select an app I get "force close".
Any suggestions?
Is there a better way of going about this? I have nothing useful on my vega yet so don't mind reflashing - just wanted to try and stick with 1.09 if poss.
I have noticed it seems to be an old version of the market (I have an up to date X10 mini pro with the newest market on it) but I can't figure out how to run the market updater app.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers.

When I switched to 1.09, to install the market I just used the file linked in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=930267 and it worked right. It installs an older version of the market but once running it updates itself.

Brill - will give this a go.
Cheers,
Xio

Just updated my rom add-on. Needs to be flashed with the software tool. All is working great for me

Hiya,
Managed to get market working using method above - thanks!
Some of the Ggaps aren't there (and don't show up on market) such as calendar, maps etc... but this is definitely a step forward.
Now to go look at that rom...
Thanks again to all for the info!

I would suggest you follow the tip to enable all the apps in the market in my thread, google Maps shows fine for me. I can add more gapps to it no problem, just trying to keep the rom size down. Calendar does not show i can add that as a extra download.

Absolutely brill!
Now got google maps (and the superb mini taskbar) - as you say, no calendar on marketplace, so if you have it handy that would be great.
Otherwise - slick work!
Cheers,
Xio

I have had this issue, it started last night when i decided to re-flash my vega. (i have been doing lots of testing and wanted a clean system) It appears to effect all roms and builds. I tried stock v1.065, v1.08 and v1.09 also tried maodaco r8 and all resulted in the same. I ended up doing a application restore (from software tool) which resulted in market logging in, but then getting a message "No matching content in Android Market" I fixed this with market enabler. Not sure why this has happened, as it appears to effect all roms. Have to wait and see how many people this effects.
Your vega not booting is strange as you are the first to report the problem with the Gapps. Did you have sufficient battery power to apply the flash? Enter recovery and reflash the stock rom.
If anybody else is having the same issues please report, Thanks.

It is more a boot loop, the android buddy shows and that is it. I reflashed 1.09 and your pack. I will try the stock settings now. Lets see ^^
Ok it doesnt work, i guess your pack hate germans ^^
i although test to set my language and timezone to an american one (read something in an other forum) doesnt work. So now iam clueless...
Send from my Vega

Odd, I got the market working but it only had free apps. Had to set to US in language and keyboards to get the paid apps to show, but now all prices are in dollars. Must be a location thing.

Afraid I am having the same problem too actually...
I have flashed 1.09 again - system restarts ok.
Unfortunately when I add the apps pack I just get the little android symbol on the screen in a boot loop
Any ideas? Was really cool when the apps were workin tho
EDIT: My location is UK btw.. incase that's useful
EDIT 2: What I mean to say is, I add the apps pack and it loads fine, all the apps work, all is well - however, if I then power down the vega it goes into the boot-loop.
Cheers,
Xio

There are more and more messages and news that there is a problem with the market login. I guess it is not the user, it is the server from google.

That's a relief - I have just been re-flashing and wondered what I had done wrong when the market didn't log in!
Cheers Gman for all yer work so far. Am trying different combinations of apps in the pack to see if it is one in particular causing the problem - also, while on the topic, any chance of getting google talk in there? I have an apk that works on the vega - but I'm not sure if that's going to cause a bootloop too, so I'm leaving it off for now!
Xio

Thx man, if you need any help, testing or something, ping me.

Hmm,
I'm probably going about this back to front but...
Have installed the apps pack straight away (without the mini-taskbar etc mod) containing only:
Calendar
CalendarProvider
DeskClock
Gmail
GoogleCalendarSync
GoogleServicesFramework
Maps
NetworkLocation
Street
Updater
Youtube
Seems fine (I.E. I can restart the vega without bootloop) but I cannot "establish a reliable data connection to the server" - it would appear much of the internet is having the same problem at the mo for whatever reason!
Ofcourse this is still missing the all important market etc... and I didn't realise just how much I'd miss the mini taskbar!

Tried making "my own" update - chopping together the apks, updating the updater-script file then signing the zip.... it didn't end well.
*Flashes 1.09 again*...

I think this is a google thing. i have tried every rom/market update combination, but still unable to log into market. Restoring from a application back up from software tool, fixes the login problem but you can only see free apps unless you change the language in language and keyboard to US.

[Q] Navitel (offroad moving map) working on Galaxy S?

Hi,
The version from the market (3.5.0.838) does not work for me (basically freezes at startup).
Any success for anyone?
Maybe with an earlier version?
It seems it is working with (for instance) Spica.
I don't need it for navigation, only for off-road hiking.
Previous version Navitel_3.5.0.165 working fine, maybe you'll need to startup it many times after install (if not starts, kill process via taskiller and start again), but after one successful start program is continuing to work fine in future...
Last version avaliable in Market works fine in Froyo ROMs.

This previous version basically works.
As you wrote there are some problems during start but once you get through them (and disable orientation change in the op system) it has worked so far for me without crashing.
Actually here they say that ver 3.5.0.838 does not work Galaxy S:

Market working on the vega 1.8 firmware

No need to install modaco R6 as it is not fully compatible with the latest vega firmware 1.8. Just follow these simple instructions and it will be working without any add-ons at all. CWM people will probably have to do it via the recovery.
Just download the attachment with the vega, go to settings, software tool, software update and point it to where you got the downloaded file. The vega will reboot and you will have a full working market. It will be the old version the first time you launch it but it will update itself. After that just install maps, youtube and everything else google. The only thing I'm having trouble installing is the official twitter app.
Hope that helps you guys at XDADEV

hi guys, i'm having issues trying to install market. i have tried this file and the one from o_g. with no luck. i can dl find and execute the file. when i comes to reboot i get the android out of the box symbol (which i'm assuming is bad ?)and have to power down the vega to get it to boot again, without market ? any ideas ? i have little knowledge of android (phone related only) and am a bit stumped.

You're welcome. There are some apps I have difficulty in finding in the market. I think it's due to the market trying to aquire location. I cannot install the official twitter app either. Trying to find solutions.

No, you don't necessarily need it but it doesn't hurt if you do. It has to be done via recovery if you do though, different process. What firmware have you got?

The android out of the box symbol is fine thats when it is flashing the files. there should be a progress bar that turns orange, after that happens the device should reboot its self. The only requirement is you are running stock v1.08.

I have noticed launcher pro does not show in the market had to install manually. i have tried changing the market files, but that does not work, so it might be as you say down to location, or i think it could be to do with are device name on the market, maybe advent does not want us to have those apps. I cant remember where the device name is. I will have to look further.

The battery was fully charged out of the box and the screen polythene had most definately been removed and replaced. Need to do some more reading methinks
Thanks for the assistance guys, my memory card was the culprit. I had swapped it for a bigger one, and not copied the contents. Sorted now tho now to get flash working properly

It seems to be working well bar "horizontal line gfx glitches" occasionally on the screen.

It works ok, you need to delete some of the apk's out of files/system/app. things like car home can be deleted and other little things. Like that it will not run out of space when you install it and it will not give you errors. This is just another option, that's all. Some more goodies will come along from modaco and xdadev like the new R7 rom addon that were made specifically for the 1.08 firmware.
thanks man, i just changed the 0 to a 1 at the end and it worked, then market updated the second time i opened it.
been trying to do this for over 2 wks

best mod for elocity A7

My tablet was runnin dexter mod 1.4 with all the patches, buy always had problems with the sd card and the usb thumb and I also had problems running some applications. Right now my A7 is running [mod] update04-19 patched market + google apps and my tablet is working almost perfect. I think this mod is better that dexter mode.
I hope everybody use this mode in their tablets.
Thanks Bestialbub for your great job.
i jus got my elocity a7
i tried to mod mine with the dexter mod 1.41 and mines wont work,
1st- i download the file didn't unzip it then i sent it to the SD card and rename it "update.zip".
2nd- i did the factory wipe/reset then i select to wipe all data
3rd- i select update.zip but i notice an message saying( E. can't read from SD card). i dont know if that is apart of the mod or what.
4th- when it is finish then i select reboot option and when it is done rebooting i get nothing new. can you help me out are do you know something that i might be doing wrong. i also did do the 1.42 patch aswell didn't work. are is there another mod that you can tell me how to get it.
hasn't been tested for application on dexter's rom, though i don't know of reason they shouldn't work. gapps can be flakey like that; actually, the files are all stock as they come from cyanogen, minus my patched market, which doesn't have any reason not to work on dexter's rom and has nothing to to with the installation of the rest of google applications, including the calendar and text messaging services; i introduced no signature issues else it wouldn't install on stock firmware.
what i can suggest, is that if you're doing this under wiped conditions; is that you need to do a "factory reset" in recovery AFTER applying my gapps update.
if you don't do the factory reset, there will be settings put in place by the provision.apk in dexter's rom (not sure if this has changed in 1.42) that may conflict with the setup of google-apps. it didn't w/ the gapps in v1 i ported from dexters rom in previous tests, but i was going for a vanilla install w/out mixed signatures/versions/dates. provision.apk is generally suggested to be removed when google-apps is intended to be installed, and it is by my installer, but not the changes done in the data folders, which is why the wipe is suggested. i think its role is replaced by the googlepartnersetup.apk, but i could be wrong.
theres also some build prop differences; some unnecessary (gsm provider info), some improved (fingerprint for added apps in addition to patched market and added permissions), and the same ones necessary for apps like skype to run.
sorry if that was too much info. i do that.
EDIT: i reviewed my original post, its step *2B*. i did update it to underline it, and provide explanation for its probable necessity.

Audio fix, which enhances EQUlizer and probably a 10% audio increase, and rotation support for games is another one..
the gsm props were actually very much needed, as Google for a period enabled provider checking, so if no gsm provider was there, you could not activate a google account, so instead of ppl getting lost without MarketEnabler on a clean device, i included it for safety reasons so next time, we're prepared for such checks.. so it all serves a purpose, if you like to know more, XDA has excellent information on those topics.

thanks for the tip. i did concede i could be wrong, and you're right, i could find that small detail that setupwizard is known to replace functions for provision.apk. the same posts i'm finding on xda and cyanogenmod don't say anything about googlepartnersetup, however, yet its provided with gapps packages..
i also learn from demonstrated and practiced examples..
demonstrated examples i learned from, including your 1.2 rom shows your remove provision.apk and provide googlepartnersetup.apk, then reverse the decision in 1.4, i ASSUME based on signiture issues you had stated (i generally don't have those as i know i can re-use existing containers without having signature issues).
i also learned/ported from various sdk's, including google's sdk for gapp imports, and neither is required, but what is provided is sdksetup.apk.. me seeing a relation from sdksetup for an sdk/emu android device kinda indicates one might want googlepartnersetup as a counterpart on a physical device. (your 1.4 example does prove that doesn't have to be true).. but the google sdk shows that i don't need setupwizard.apk for google services either.
thought i'd relate, since most the general posted information i've seen on xda and cyanogenmod seem like vague gueses at best. though i suspect the people posting this information aren't necessarily the devs working closely with the files. just hobbists and modders making educated guesses like me.

i was refering to MY gsm provided build prop information, i wasn't ragging on your build prop or rom addons. i followed suit to the gtab tnt modrom and added DIFFERENT gsm provider information than yourself (service provider id, not google client information). but it made no difference in gapps present demonstrated performance as this information DOES NOT (the stuff i provided/borrowed from tntlite) get passed into the android system or database files, as no service provider id is listed when opening marketaccess.apk, as it does on a phone device that does genuinely have this information.
i do concede to the thread discussion, tho, DEXTERS ROM IS THE BEST AND ONLY FULL ROM MOD FOR THE A7 TABLET!!!
my gapps mod is only intended to provide google applications ommitted by the manufacture. nothing more.
thanks for the indirect market patching instructions!
thanks am going to retry and see what happends

[Q] VegaComb BETA 1.5.2 - no download from market

Hi,
I've installed on my POV mobii Tegra (aka Advent Vega) the VegaComb BETA 1.5.2.
Well, I know it's Beta and I've searched this forum but I can't find a similar post where someone has problems with the official android market. I can open the market and search, but when I try to download something I still get an error message, that the dowload failed. Any idea?
Thanks for your help in advance!
IIRC,i solved this by going into Settings and the Accounts & Sync option then remove your googlemail/gmail account.Once done then re-add the account and sync.
Sadly mine is now doing this as well. Cant get into my apps part when selecting to install. Tried removing gmail account and re adding it but no change.
Guess a reflash is coming up, dont want to move away from 3.0 though
Mine was doing this also but looks like it was an issue with the market. Works fine now.
I can't write a comment on any developer boards, so I'll do it here. For me, when I plug the Vega into the computer and try to connect the USB storage, I actually have to check 'turn off USB storage' rather than 'turn on'. This confused me at first but will hopefully be fixed in an update.
My WiFi doesn't connect unless I'm a maximum of 2/3m from my modem! Any ideas why? Help much appreciated.

TouchNooter 1.6.24 for 1.1

which uRamdisk to Replace into touchnooter-1.6.24 to make it work on 1.1 is not clear (there are 2 of them).
The answer is ONLY /nooter/boot/uRamdisk (don't touch the one in the root)
with this configuration (and the framework.jar) i got it to work on the first boot, no need to make the 3 boots sequence.
concluding (starting from an 1.1 virgin system):
download touchnooter-1-6-24.zip
extract touchnooter-1-6-24.img
download one of those uRamdisk
download framework.jar
replace ONLY /nooter/boot/uRamdisk in touchnooter-1-6-24.img
replace framework.jar in touchnooter-1-6-24.img
write touchnooter-1-6-24.img on the SD
just 1 boot as usual to the android welcome page,
then remove the SD,
reboot,
double skip as usual
NookColorTools - disable and re-enable non market apps (uncheck and check it again),
Youtube (error 401),
Gmail
and finally...
Market (install at least 1 application with this version, search doesn't work)
now (after you have installed 1 app) eventually replace Vending.apk with this to enable search
i also putted this inside my touchnooter, the 2 .jar into the framework directory and the apk into the app but this shouldn't be necessary...
this is how it worked for me, enjoy

I think what you are addressing is exactly apeine's problem:
changed both uramdisk ... Booted with SD in and it either locks up or goes to regular nook (on 12 tries, 10 lock ups and 2 going to regular nook)

Incidentally, how long did it take to boot and work on the first try? With 1.0.1 firmware I rooted three nooks and left it for over 30 minutes on the first one without success. Then on the other two I was impatient and gave it two boots. So I never let 1.1.0 go on that long before rebooting since I assumed it was going nowhere.

In my case it took slightly longer than a normal boot, no freeze at all, just about 1-2 minute on "Rooted Forever", then some time, may be 1-2 minutes on the nook dots screen with the dots moving (they never froze) and then the android guy page, no more than 4-5 minutes globally.
Anyway when i used touchnooter on 1.0.1 the first time, i had to reboot 2 times as you reported, same problem, more or less, may be the freezing at boot is something which happens, but not regularly
thank you for the description!
so if i understood correctly, there's no drawback with this method, everything works as it was before upgrade to 1.1.0, including the Market?
what about the installed apps, especially the non-free ones? (I've purchased OrientationControl)
can I simply download it from Market again, or should I backup the APK file and copy it back after upgrade/root?

btw 1 EUR was not a big pain (I tried ADW launcher and rotation before, but it was not really convenient)
As long as you have market working with your prior GMail account, you should have no problem redownloading both your free and paid apps.
Thanks. Worked like a charm.
I first installed Astro File Manager, which is the second one in the list under the "Productivity" -> "Top Free". This allows me to install Vending.apk (Market where the search function works), and then follow it with Titanium Backup.
Using Titanium Backup re-installed all the apps from my previous backup, plus installed the XorZone's NookTouchTools for 1.1 (jars are different from 1.0.1).
I'm not sure what the significant difference is between the firmwares, but I understanding that the screen refresh is a bit quicker, and that the battery report is more accurate (previously batt reading would fluctuate when first turned on).
As for the firmware upgrade.... my STR just did not want to download the upgrade, even though I set the screensaver to 1 hour. There could be several reason why this didn't work, such that I don't live in US, or the process of rooting had modified something (even thought I factory reset it).
In the end I just connected it using USB, and loaded it into the root directory of the my STR (a simply file copy in Windows XP). Then the upgrade started a minute after the copy.
Thanks for your guide! I've just finished rooting my 1.1 Nook Simple Touch firmware

I want to root my nook simple touch - what works TODAY?
Hi all.
I find this thread interesting and helpful. I have noted that a lot of the information here, on nook developers, or in two articles I read (one in lifehacker.com and the other in Que Publishing) all contain help that includes links to files that are either not there or I can't find.
Can someone point me to a current simple solution that will allow me to root my nook and toggle between the original home screen and the better Android one?
Thanks in advance!

ButtonSaviour should have been installed with the Root, so just look for a transparent(translucent?) arrow button thing on the right screen, near the middle. It might be hard to hit it. The Home button on that will be like hitting the Home button on a normal Android device, and when you press the Quick Nav button, the home on that will lead to the B&N home unless you used Xor's mods to change what it leads to.
broken link..........
+1
All the links that I find on the internet for the uRamdisk_rooted file appear broken also...
