[Q] WiFi Tethering to Evo - Adam General

Hello noob here, first post.
Have my Adam ordered.
Just got today the Evo 4G from Sprint, and intend to use it as an internet source for my Adam.
Evo is still stock, I'm not really sure if I need to root or not.
Been checking Evo's section but it's kinda confusing for now. I'm willing to read and follow whatever steps necessary, but I'm hoping somebody can direct me to the right thread or rooting method for the newest Evo.
Android version
2.2
Baseband
2.15.00.09.01
Kernel
2.6.32.15-g59b9e50
Build
3.30.651.3 CL272076 release-keys
Software
3.30.651.3
Also what's the difference between Hotspot <--> WiFi tethering <--> Adhoc tethering and which one is recommended in my case Evo --> Adam
Thank you for your help

You'll be my hero if you get this fixed. I'm tired of rogers spamming me with texts and calls from some girl with a childish voice telling me to update.

The strange thing is I don't understand how Rogers knows who is running what radio. I don't think they have the ability to see that. How i figure they did this was just pulling ever Dream and Magic IME and blasting everyone. It's strange though that the calls and texts haven't stopped. Have the texts/calls stopped for people that have legitimately completed the update?

Thanks for the help! I called Rogers a few different times with some friends that have rooted and unrooted magics. I provided this information to the tech support reps each time and all but once they have reenabled data within a minute. They do still continue to get the blast messages though...
as a futher FYI for everyone.
After calling Rogers regarding my issues with the magic, the update, the fact that they stopped selling the magic, and the fact (untrue since i was rooted and running 1.6) that i would have been unable to call 911 before this update, Rogers ended up providing me with the choice to resign my contract at no charge and recieve a new phone for free. I end up moving to a blackberry which i plan to sell in short order and get a nexus or a milestone. I encourage you all to do the same as i can't see a reason why not too. Rogers is basically paying for my upgrade to a way better phone.
In closing all i have to say about that is that Rogers can suck it lol.
I think Rogers will still stick it to you.
The current Nexus One is not supported by Rogers GSM network. I did read the phone should be release at a later date supporting the AT&T / Rogers network.

"The Nexus One is available unlocked or with T-Mobile service. The phone recognizes SIM cards from any mobile service provider using the GSM standard, but is incompatible with the frequency band used by the AT&T and Rogers networks for 3G data. Additionally, the Nexus One is incompatible with CDMA networks such as Verizon and Sprint."

How do I edit this info on my phone? I'm running a Hero ROM.
Firmware version OK; Fixed the build number by editing the build.prop file, but I'm not sure how to do the other two.

[Q] HTC Magic updated to 2.2.1 but NO WiFi hotspot tethering

Phone: HTC magic not rooted.
Recently accepted the update for Android 2.2.1. Update successful to version 2.2.1.
I was informed that Android 2.2 had options for WiFi Hotspot tethering.
New USB tethering option now available after update but NO WiFi tethering option.
Please comment or advice me why there is no WiFi tethering option on 2.2.1 on HTC Magic.
Thanks in advance !!
HTC Magic (running Froyo 2.2.1) still not support WiFi tethering
Limitation of the hardware apparently.
I have checked on both NTT docomo HT-03A and Vodafone NZ versions of the hardware, running CyanogenMod 6.1.0
It's otherwise a great device... although a little underpowered compared to devices now available.

No, you can do Wifi tethering, just not with any stock ROM TMK. If your rooted, you can download Barnacle Wifi Tether from the market, it works like a charm.

[Q] Atrix newb, how do I unlock and flash from att 1.8.3?

I've put custom roms on other android phones but never "unlocked" one before.
This is my dad's phone and his main requirement is to get usb teathering (at&t seems to have blocked it). I figured I'd just put a custom rom on it for him like cm7 which i use on my galaxy s.
his phone is running at&t 1.8.3, what's the best process coming from this older release? Should I upgrade to the newest rom first?
Sorry for the stupid question but i'm overwhelmed by all the info i'm reading in the forums.
There are some pretty clear instructions on how to do it from that version. Try reading the NOOB guide in this section first.
Unlock it from that version and then load your ROM of choice. I wouldn't even bother with the OTA version.
AT&T blocked his tethering because he didn't pay for it.

RSD to stock 2.3.4 (no pudding). and then downgrade back down to 1.8.3 (no pudding) using RSD. That'll get you where YOU need to be.

I just got the Verizon refurb... I let it do all the updating and then I rooted. I wasn't looking for custom Rom's... just the ability to tether it to my droid 3.
Verizon had some weak bluetooth support in the begining and I think I read that Sprint did too. I think most of the rom upgrades fix it, but I know the OTA Verizon one did.
I think what you want to research is HID bluetooth. I'm not sure it was available in 2.2. It is in 2.3.5
Sprint Custom Rom
not much out there in the Rom market for CDMA Sprint, most of the custom Roms are for GSM
Do you have the link you used to root 2.3.5 I am fine stock with a root.
Here are the directions I used to root my Galaxy Tab:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20155509#post20155509
I got the update requests from 2.2 pretty immediately and went ahead with the update to 2.3.
As others have mentioned, there's isn't much selection regarding custom ROMs for the CDMA Galaxy Tab. But I'm fine with it rooted--it's not running Sense-level bloat so it's still fast.
Pay attention to my notations at the end of the first page in the above thread--good bits to note when rooting your 2.3 CDMA Tab.
