Push/drag stuff like video or pics straight to ur tablet or computer - Android Software Development

Yea, hi, I know what I am talking about may be impossible at this point but is there/will there ever be a way for you to swipe the movie you are watching or a picture you are viewing straight onto the screen of your tablet or computer?
Sorry if this is something that could never happen I just had to ask...and also sorry if this is the wrong section.

Currently not possible with android. However, microsoft made this a couple years back:

It's basically a coffee table with an integrated touch screen. CBA to explain all of it right now. But it's quite amazing

Awesome, I think google needs to focus on this as far as the placing your phone on the tablet and able to do this and that and more stores need to have that tech also so it will me super easy to do things.

I'm not going to say anything about what I've seen as I'm not sure whether or not it's confidential, but you can at least check out the trademark, as that's public.

I can't promise that this will ever actually materialize, but it sounds good.

I'm sure nfc will be used for this kind of thing once it's ubiquitous..

Ya NFC chips are starting to become more and more popular and the new WebOS tablet and phones can do something like that where you set your Palm Pre (I guess it would now be the HP Pre) on the WebOS tablet and it can transfer stuff, so far I've only seen it transfer URLs, but I'm sure the technology will catch on and later be used for other things. Just a matter of time.

Just recieved mine today, not sure if I want it anymore

Mine came in today, Im debating on returning it before even opening. I started doing research and it seems the Android for tablets is still not up to par with the competition. I was an early adopter for Android (had the G1) but im have second thoughts about being the guinea pig for the tablets.
Anyone have the same feeling and decided to keep it? I may just try it out and return it but I need to see what Amazon return policy (restocking fee, etc)
I'm loving mine. I rarely use my laptop now. Overall its stable, occasioanlly the stock launcher and browser will fc but not enough to be an issue.
Now "the competition" may have more apps specifically for tablets, more are showing up for honeycomb.
Give us some idea of what you plan on using it for/ what you plan to get out of it and might be able to directly respond to your concerns.

Why don't you just open it and find out.
As if there weren't enough useless threads like this already. This is the equivalent of posting 'ive just woken up' type messages on facebook. Totally pointless. Just return it if you dont want it. You dont need to tell the whole world.
bah double post..clicked submit twice =/
Ive been waiting on a good Android tablet to come out for awhile now. I almost jumped on the Nook Color because of the IPS screen, but I wanted a bigger screen.
I plan on using it for
1.) Browsing the web
2.) Watching Youtube videos
3.) Watching Netflix
4.) Hooking up to HDTV to watch MKV and XVID files
5.) Playing the occasional game
6.) Reading Comics
Now, #3 has me concerned because Ive read that Netflix doesn't work on Honeycomb. Has this been hacked yet? #4 has me concerned because of codec support and the fact this tablet may not be powerful enough for certain files formats. Anyone have experience with this? I have a MacBook Pro that I use maybe once a month, if that, mainly because I use my desktop most of the time.
Return it and stop crying into your milk.
I love mine and have also used Android since the G1. Considering how far Android has come since then, I have all the more confidence that Honeycomb will be much improved over the coming months.

you havent opened it...?
not trying to come off as a ****, but maybe you need to open the thing and be your own judge. You decided to use your own credit card, pick your own vendor, now open it, play with it, and then decide.
Its only a tablet.. Not a baby. No remorse if you give it back.
I think a lot of these threads are popping up from posters who are looking for someone to make up their mind about this unit, when it should be themselves who choose..
my 2 cents.
Any experience with Asus and updates? Will the Transformer get Ice Cream Sandwich? I guess only time will tell...
If you use it you'll love it. But yes, pretty useless post, do you really need a bunch of anonymous folks telling you what to do?

1) Has been bad for me on 3.1. There is no single browser in my experience, which supports flash and doesn't lag.
2) Excellent for me in the app
3) Doesn't work. Being skeptical, I want to think nothing might work out soon.
4) mkv's are not supported properly, as per the Xoom's video playback thread. As suggested in other threads, Tegra 2 is not a platform you want to have, for video playback.
5) Games are very good on this thing.
6) I read a couple of books. The experience is very good.
BTW, not to be disrespectful, its ridiculous to have a gadget just beside you, and contemplate returning it, based on someone else's subjective experience, without you trying it.

Thanks for the post. I sort of jumped on ordering this without fully researching what it was capable of doing. I figure if my Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant can play back the video files I have, why not a "more powerful" tablet. If Netflix and HDMI output of HD doesnt work or is poor, then thats a show stopper for me. Tablets are media consumption devices.
Why did I order it? Because I was tempted at the time and they are hard to come buy so I ordered it. This was before 3.1, which I thought would fix a lot of these issues.

So I'm guessing there are quite a few people with ICS now (awesome) but what I'm wondering is what is everyone doing with their TF101s and TF101Gs now that they couldn't do with HC?

And having a working Bookmark Sync with Chrome for desktop...
Selling it. trully something I couldn't done with HC as I was wating for ICS release to check it out by myself before I sell it.
Use a web browser without wanting to punch my tablet for loading pages so slowly.
Chrome is pretty epic and browsing is a hell of a lot smoother. I really like the landscape layout of chrome and how similar it is to the desktop version.

Need to buy a notebook for studying, the tablet was just a waste of time.
Sending it back to Asus on an RMA. I'm one of the poor fools that had their tablet go into an endless loop when I tried to bring it back from sleep after the ICS update. When I get it back I'm going to ebay it and try another brand. Two RMAs within a 6 month period (one for a dead power button, now this) has convinced me to wait for the iPad 3. I'm sure it's just the luck of the draw but every Apple product I have ever purchased has worked perfectly - the build quality of the Transformer, at least in my case, has soured me on messing with Asus any more.
finally able to actually use the browser, and now i have chrome as a bonus.
honestly, i love it even more with a couple minor exceptions. still can't play high profile 720p mkvs, and none of my custom icon/shortcut apps are working properly.
You actually thought your transformer was going to replace a laptop? I find it ironic how there were all these people kicking & screaming like spoiled little brats wanting ICS. Now it seems that every post someone is complaining about ICS.
Is ICS prefect probably not, will it ever be? Hell no, what is perfect in this world.
I think there are a couple if big improvements. File Explorer is much improved. Also now there is a task manager widget built in that can be put on your desktop.
Now I still can't do a search on XDA with the stock browser.

I'm willing to bet that the majority of computer users could easily replace their desktop or laptop with a tablet. Unless you are using some specialized, high-end software, tablets can perform most tasks.
It's been a year since I've needed my laptop and I can use my tablets for both work and play.

Remote Wipe Stolen a500

Hey guys and gals,
Tonight my a500 was stolen. I work in sales and use it to look things on the net for customers (like price comparisons, etc) and use it for the website and lots of other business-type things (as well as lots of personal pics etc).
But, unfortunately when my back was turned, someone swiped it...!!!! argh:angry:
I had the newest release of jellybean on it from the forums here on xda, but had no remote wipe app installed (never even crossed my mind to do it). Therefore, I'm wondering if the is any remote wipe abilities in jellybean or if there was an app by chance that i had installed that would have this feature hidden (like onavo or norton utilities... reading now).
If anyone can help that would be amazing! Changed all my passwords, etc. So, I should be fine there. thanks guys

Well, I don't have a lot of faith in those types of apps. They usually only work if an idiot steals it. Over here, pinching phones and tabs is big business, and usually done by pro's. They're quick to dump the device to another agent, who runs a stock full rom on it, clones the IMEI number from a good device , then dumps it to one of the umpteen million fly by night resellers. They (moscow govt) talked about cracking down on multiple PH number/IMEI combinations, then quickly realized over half the devices in Russia would stop working! Including their own!
Best thing to do, never let it out of your sight. Get a new device, like I did my phone, and the pain goes away.
But then again, maybe your culprit is a true idiot, and will post fotos to your facebook account!!!!!

The last person to steal one of my phones was a true idiot. This happened at my school and good thing I'm done with school. I was in class and had my phone charging and I had it out because I trusted most everyone in the room and would known who would have taken it.
So he asked if it was my phone and about a minute later he leaves the room. I noticed it was gone and others around me saw him take it. (Not obvious at all)
So I had the Vipre Mobile Security beta installed so I immediately logged into the web interface to activate GPS tracking and set off the alarm. Except when I logged in the service hadn't communicated when the app/phone in over a month so it was useless.
Over the period of the next 24 hours he had used the phone to take photos, delete everything on my sdcard, spam my YouTube feed with countless videos, and make voice calls to their own friends and family. So I looked on my carrier's account management and found all these numbers. Between the school staff and police it was possible to track the calls back to his identity. I got my phone back the next day...without the case and screen protector, sucks that they kept that.
So the lesson is make sure you have good, working anti theft solutions with cascading failsafes.
The next app I installed after ditching Vipre was Avast. This was a good solution with some flaws. Avast was one of the first Play Store security apps to utilize root access. Because of root in addition to setting as a device administrator it was also installed as a system service and app. This made it persistent and harder to remove.
The issue with avast was since the app was in /system and not /data it would have to be completely reconfigured after flashing each nightly update. Sometimes I'd forget and then it wouldn't work. It claimed to support the CM backup script except it was designed for CM7 and CM9 uses a different type of backup.
The other issue with avast was there was no web interface. You could only send commands through SMS.
Since I got my Nexus I bought Cerberus anti theft its perfect. It has system app support. Instead of a user setup it apparently registers the device ID or SIM or something and loads the user account from the cloud server. So all I do is add the apk to the CM backup list and it auto configures when installed. I can use SMS control or the website. I can monitor and control pretty much the entire phone and it takes a front camera photo on invalid pass code.
I check weekly to ensure its still running and it hasn't failed once.
As a failsafe I also have the first screen splash modded to my contact info in case of loss. Its encrypted so if anything maybe only a boot loader update could remove it.

I think that only works if you accept all the tracking disclaimers to enable location history and not many people have history turned on.
I guess the lesson is you can't let your guard down for even a second. One time I let a friend sync their iPod touch on my computer since they didn't have a PC and they ended up snatching my classic monochrome iPod. I'm still upset to this day since they didn't take my old iPod touch instead. That just proves the first gen iPod touch is so bad people won't even steal it.

If you download the lookout app and install it, if you ever lose your tablet, on the lookout website you can see where it is, (if GPS was enabled when lost) you can also do a remote wipe, and a remote siren, make it put off an alarm remotely.
Its a good app to have just in case, but doesn't help if the app was not installed before being lost or stolen.

As a huge Windows Phone fan, I can't understand why ANYONE would want the 8x over the Lumia 920. But I digress...
To install apps not in the market, you have to register your device as a dev device (all 3 of my Windows Phone devices are registered and I'm able to install non-market apps).
I have several Android devices and personally, I believe Windows Phone buries it. If you were closer, I'd loan you one of mine to use for a while to see if you like it. I have converted a few to Windows Phone from iPhone 4's as well as Android devices. Only ONE person so far has switched back to the iPhone and it had a lot to do with the fact that she worked with other women who had iPhones and she felt like an outcast. Seriously.

Well, his biggest concern is that he can sideload apps. Since WP8 CAN, the correct sentence should have been that it does SOME of what he wants.
The Gmail tags are nice but between subfolders and a web client, those needs are basically met as well.

Personally, I'd have to give serious consideration to the Nokia Lumia 822 as well.
Nokia's Windows Phone support and Nokia apps are great.
Given that those are your only options though, the 8X is a great phone. The 16GB and lack of MicroSD card was the only disappointment for me with it.
I have an OLD HTC Surround (the first Windows Phone device AT&T carried) and I still prefer it to anything Android or iPhone related. Windows Phone is a VERY fast and fluid OS. The tight integration between services is pretty awesome and nobody can touch their Email/Calendar/Office apps.
I hope you can get enough time in the store to give it a thorough going through. I'd hate for you to buy it because I said it was awesome and after 3 weeks you hate it. While many people I've "helped" convert to Windows Phone are now true converts, one of their wifes is still missing her iPhone. So not everybody that jumped in feet first was happy about it.
Still ignoring his very first question?
Yes it does SOME if you're only talking about sideloading apps by paying to register a device at the moment.

5% is a little low. use the browser for gmail and get those niiiiice features back ?

sorry, I can't do nifty things like italics and bold to clean up my responses in your quote from tapatalk (on my android device, while eating a plum, from california, on a Sunday)

[Q] Anyone besides me, just give it back??

After the aggravation of no flash support, multiple screen freezes, and the sometime slow buggy screen response. The screen is great for viewing though! I decided to just send it back. To be completely truthful I would not have bought it, when not supporting flash!! Reminds too much of Apple!! I hate when companies force me into, or in this case out of something I want just because they feel like it!! If they think it's a security risk, make it a user option! When you buy a router, do they force you to use encryption? No!! It's my tablet & I should be able to watch flash videos if I want!!
And before anyone starts saying, you can get around it by using firefox or dolphin browsers, you can't! At least not completely, they are buggy!
Just want to see if any others, traded it in so to speak!!

Same boat as you, i had it for a while then gave it back. I ended up sticking with my infinity.
Mmm... Flash is no longer supported mate all across the tablet/mobile world. Besides if your not willing to side load the flash apk then I suggest you go buy a laptop. Flash is buggy anyways but for me flash is nice on my N10. I Can watch my Hulu through the browser. If you want flash you got to do a little work to get it working. Just like any android tablet nowadays. The issues you stated can you be a bit more specific? I haven't had any problems on performance on this thing. Browsing is very quick. Just opening apps and loading my gmail is very fast compared to the Infinity I had. Even using ttorrent, I can actually download a 3gig HD movie without sacrificing performance. No laggyness at all compared to other previous tablets I've owned.

Question for OP, did you pay a restocking fee? When I swapped my 16gigger with 32 it was like a 15% fee!
Back on topic though, I guess I just was one of those users that got a bad tf700 and had a terrible experience. My N10 has been running superbly. The only reason I doubt my assumption is b/c I went through 3 tf201's before finally giving up and waiting on the tf700.

Flash works fine on the Nexus 10 and it is Adobe who dropped Flash, not so much Google. Adobe said they were dropping all mobile flash support.
Guess I was one of the lucky ones because my Nexus 10 is perfect. Better than the Xoom I had, the Transformer tf101 I bought my wife and the Galaxy Tab 10.1's I got my parents.
No issues at all....and working flash

I really don't understand how Flash Player is so important enough to justify a device purchase decision, especially since it's becoming obsolete... Might just be my browsing habits, but there are 2 sites total that I use that would be "somewhat" pointless without flash player. Just 2. And those 2 sites I could care less about on a tablet (one of the sites is YouTube; which has a standalone app on Android lol)
So in a few months when either all Android tablets are updated and no longer support flash, or your tablet that does, is completely outdated, you are just going to NOT own a tablet ..
At least that is what I get from your "reasons".
Honestly you don't have to justify returning the tablet, if you can't take change I suggest you move to the north pole or something where pretty much nothing changes.
These posts about "Why I don't like the N10" or "Why I am too lazy to sideload flash" or " X tablet is Better than Y tablet" are REALLY REALLY getting old ..
I am in these forums because I own said device, not because I want to talk about how I returned it, or how much I hate it ..
Should be a rule if you don't own the device and are not a developer, leave said forum.
@OP
It looks as though you don't have any clue what you are talking about. The nexus 10 definitely supports flash. You don't need anything but the flash.apk to use it on any browser. It is the users choice to use it or not. And please do a little research next time before you try and slander or put down a company (Google) for something that they have nothing to do with. It's Adobe that doesn't support flash on the mobile platform. Not Google. All you would've needed to do is take 11 seconds to sideload one app and you have flash. Either way. If you don't have this tablet, what does your opinion of it matter here in the Nexus 10 forums? It doesn't. Move along to the next device, complain about that one, and waste more space in another forum with your opinions.

I agree with you 100% and I wish happy owners like me, who are the vast majority, could hide threads like this to make it easier to focus on threads of interest.
While many of us xda users are capable enough to search and find solutions to Chrome's lack of flash, there is an app I used to keep handy when I encountered a site w/ flash. Its called Flashify : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nightshadelabs.anotherbrowser

Anyone who wants flash please see this post.

I'm using Ocean browser and this apk worked fine for me.
Just use puffin browser whenever you need flash. It loads the content on remote servers then sends it back to you. It can even emulate a touch pad or a game controller for flash gaming.
It works on iOS too if you care about that.

I had an Infinity for two months before I got the N10. Each person's experience is different but my Infinity experience was laggy and frustrating. I found myself rebooting frequently trying to make it speedy. I disabled most of the Asus stuff, it just didn't "feel" like a great experience. I will say Asus is on top of updates and the bloatware is minimal by comparison to other non-Nexus tablets, of course.
The N10, for me, is just smooth. Living with the N10 is just better for me.
No one had an answer last time I asked, does anyone know now if there is a fix for flash/browser yet, so when I hit full screen it doesn't crash the browser? I tried all of them, they all do it

Developer huh?? Like I said flash is buggy on the nexus 10! I did side load the apk flash pack & it only works partially!! Go to any site that uses flowplayer to show flash, hit the full screen button & the 10's screen goes black & does a partial lock up!! The only way you can move off that screen now is hit the home button!! And its not the flowplayer program, because it works fine on my PC!! It will do the same thing on your 10 too, most likely!! Take your personal assumption & attack where it belongs, off a cliff!! My point was I don't like Google, Android, Adobe, or developers taking things away just because they feel like it!! Remember the software companies work for the public, not the other way around!!
If I knew flash would not work properly, as i stated before. I would not have bought it to begin with!! I believed the developers that there is a workaround, there's not!! At least not one that works 100%.

Stay calm lol your the one that came here, posted a new topic, and assumed that things are what they are from your brief experience trying to get flash to work. Task650 knows what he is saying and we are all just trying to help you and correct you because what you think is not true. Yes there is a way to get flash working 100%
Here is a link to get flash working 100% you will need to unlock and root your device if you want it to work 100% Yes I'm sure that site you spend time on should work as well. It worked for me and I was able to watch Hulu. I would test it out for you but I just unrooted to exchange my N10.

But I guess you don't need it now since you've returned your N10. Its unfortunate because its a great tablet.

I believe I will be charged the 15% restocking fee, credit not issued yet. Apple customer service is way better in that regard. I think in the future, I will wait to see the device in a retail store first, save time & trouble on both ends!

So then... what mobile platform are you going to buy in a year or two? Plus, it's the mobile Flash player that's causing the problems. That's purely Adobe's fault for dropping it.
I can tell that your "multiple screen freezes, and the sometime slow buggy screen response" are from fullscreening Flowplayer and being unable to get out. You make it sound like a generalization throughout the whole device.
Anyway, were you talking about this?

Yes sideloading will not give you 100% especially if your running stock and not rooted.

Thanks for the helpful response, unlike some other members that tell me I can't believe my own eyes!! Mine is heading back already but this may help others with the same problem!! Personally, I like flash & wish it would stick around. I take offense when others tell me what I can & can't have, especially when I'm paying them & they're not paying me!!
