[CLOSED-OLD VERSION][ROM] VEGAn-TAB GingerEdition - Experimentals [UPDATED - 3/08] - G Tablet Android Development

*************EXPERIMENTAL INSTALLERS BE AWARE*******************
**************** ALSO As these are Experimental Builds if a new kernel comes out and you flash it and it doesn't work.... Do Not hound the kernel builder.... they do not and can't support these builds as of yet ***
**** FINAL EXPERIMENTAL Version Uploaded ****
**** I have been having to Format System, Data, and cache from the Mounts and storage menu of clockwork between flashes ****
There is no support yet for these, and feature requests are not being taken just yet as it is still in a state of flux. With that said I know alot of you are itching to try something new. Keep an eye on this page and the linked page below as I will be uploading as I build from here on out...
These are Experimental Builds.... what does that mean? Well it means it worked on my dev tablet and may be missing a feature or two and or include some code that is not quite finished.
These are BLEEDING EDGE!
*****Stop and reread from the beginning*****
ClockworkMod 0.8 is required. Make sure you are running 0.8.
These are all Update.zip format files are flashable through ClockworkMod. YOU MUST WIPE EVERYTHING DATA/CACHE/DALVIK! ****Even Between Versions of the Experimental... Everything is in a state of Flux right now****
Today will be the last Experimental build of VEGAn-TAB GingerEdition.... you can pick it up over on the Experimental page. I am almost ready to call this a Beta but wanted one more Experimental build to work out any final pre-Beta type bugs. So what is working? Well pretty much everything... LOL. I think we finally got the Main Market issues worked out... should see just about everything now. YOU MUST INSTALL THE LATEST GAPPS from here: http://goo-inside.me/gapps/latest/7/universal/ . This has ONLY been tested with a FULL DATA WIPE, so if you are still having issues that may be your only option.
So what has changed? A lot since the last build.
Merged up to 2.3.3 Gingerbread.... that was a chore had to rebase and rebuild my entire repo as something wasn't jiving.
Merged in the TNT 3991 Libs.... the Ventana ones are not useful yet unfortunately.
Created a more tablet friendly lockscreen no more slide tabs on the side.... they are now on the bottom landscape wise as they should... and don't look phone like any more.
Statusbar improvements:
* Battery Percent graphics
* Matching Wifi graphics
* Added some full color icons for the statusbar power widget the status bar itself
* Modified Statusbar Pulldown to better fit with theme (added a slight alpha to it and changed some elements to black)
Added in fake ril to help with Market Issues (ATM Phone stuff has to remain or it may break market) But I removed all of their icons from the launcher.... so unless you actually go to Settings/Manage Applications you will not know they are there.
Changed the (no service) text to VEGAn-TAB so we are not constantly reminded that we don't have phone parts....
Removed RomManager, PacMan(auto market installer) as they cause issues with other things.
And Lots more background things that you will not visibly notice.
The Latest Flash player from the market now works. Latest google maps still doesn't work (this is a screw up with maps on google's part they coded one of the layout files wrong, there is a fix but I don't want to do it because it screws with too many other things.... better to use the old maps version for the moment). SDCard and internal memory are now handled like we are used too with the old VEGAn and TNT and several other Builds.... Internal Memory is mapped to SDCard and external SD Card is mapped to SDCard2. With nothing else installed Quadrant consistently comes in at about 2100 and a 41.45fps on Nenamark so performance is pretty decent so far.
Hopefully I will move to BETA 1 fairly quickly... there are several "Features" I am trying to work out first though so it might be a week or so.
NOW STABLE HERE : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12818284
ALSO: A Big Thanks to chariotdrive for the new boot animation! Gotta say it is pretty sweet! Also added his wallpapers to the stock picker and one of HIS Wallpapers is now the STOCK Wallpaper for the Experimental.

From his website:
****THIS IS EXPERIMENTAL**** No need to to inform us of bugs or feature requests just yet..... this is still in a state of flux. Only flash this if you dare.... and be prepared to flash back to something else if you don't like it... this is here for those that want to see some of the progress being made towards GingerBread.
This build is simply for us to play with but I'm guessing this thread is as good as any to talk about it.

Yea. This does require new cwm or older version is fine?
Does new cwm can be flashed just like ROM?
Few questions before I dive into this.

Clcokwork 3.0.0.5 is not required. It will not work with other roms. If you use it you will have to flash the bekit 0.8 to go back to froyo roms.

DL page is recommending you backup current rom, flash experimental version of CWM that is on the same page before installing the experimental build, Wipe data & cache also.

I do have working backup of vegan and gingerbread using .8 cwm. I am just going try to see if market works.

not bad... ive been playing with v7 for a couple hours. no market kinda poops in the punch bowl, but still cool to play with! looks nice, seems smooth and fast.
the hard search and home buttons dont work... but the on screen stuff is right there so.. maybe we should use them instead?
i like all the new menu settings!
anyone have a market .apk?

Flash gapps in recovery

Thanks!
I've been listening to music for a few hours, browsing, reading ebooks, etc, without any issue so far. The only thing I'm missing is the stock keyboard. The notification bar is great!

could you not do a "restore" market from Titanium?

I wouldn't restore system data with Titanium. Why not just flash the gapps package instead?

That is not the tegra version of gapps. Does it matter? I dont know.

Then there's this one which is interesting because its dated feb 5th.. its larger in size so it could mean the entire set of apps (no dling from market)

I thought it was setup with icons for devices with a higher reso. Err something like that?? Why go thru the trouble of creating separate zip files for tegra devices in the first place?

I thought because tegra has A9 extended instruction set over generic ARM and because Tegra would include multiproc hooks...

Yeah, thats what I thought as well.. but I think thats all a bit lower-level than just apks. I would've thought youtube would've been optimized for the tegras wide array of hardware video-decoders.
the vending.apk to come out of the gapps-gb.zip is half the size of the others.. the vending from tegra is older (2010-12-21) than the 20110120.zip which is dated 2011-01-19.
On an unrelated note.. I found that using a FTP server on the Gtab is 5 times faster than CIFS.. 5MB/sec write speeds. About time.
one question regarding the CWM flashing using nvflash.. Can't we just use the tegra_flash binary found in /data/data/whateverROM.Manager.IsCalled

Stuff to Read
This is my personal theme, i'm making everything exactly how i want it when i get the time.
I only make my theme for the rom i'm currently using, normally either CyanogenMod or AdamG's roms.
My files are tested, working, signed.
Flash in recovery the same as any other update file. Run a nandroid backup before hand.
Any problems installing, see this post ---> Clicky
Flash my files at your own risk, I accept no responsibility for any damage to your device.

Clock Update
Adds the clock back into the status bar, flash after the main theme file.
Keyboard Update
Stock gingerbread keyboard, orange highlights changed to blue.
FreshInstall Update
Again this is just something i made for myself, it can be used on any Rom. Flash this in recovery straight after flashing a new rom (after gapps if using a CM rom).
It removes the camera click sound, installs the stock gingerbread launcher and removes the following apps from /system/app/ if they exist:-
ADWLauncher.apk
AndroidTerm.apk
BooksPhone.apk
CarHomeGoogle.apk
CarHomeLauncher.apk
CMWallpapers.apk
com.amazon.mp3.apk
Facebook.apk
FileManager.apk
LiveWallpapers.apk
LiveWallpapersPicker.apk
MagicSmokeWallpapers.apk
Maps.apk
RomManager.apk
Stk.apk
Street.apk
Torch.apk
Twitter.apk
VisualizationWallpapers.apk
YouTube.apk
Zeam.apk
Some of these files are not in the roms these days (i started removing these on CM6 & OpenDesire), but i leave them all in just incase they make a return at some point
I install google apps from the market instead, so they update properly without having to wait for a rom update.

looks nice - i'll give it a whirl!!!
Great start, love that Electric Blue!
Had to go back I miss the time in the notifications bar too much.
Looked good tho!

Will you add this to the Oxygen Updater? Looks awesome by the way, but I am missing the clock aswell.
i've just made a flashable to add the clock back in, as a couple of you guys have requested it
i got used to no clock as i had it disabled in CM for a long time when i was using that - personally i prefer it without, but i'm probably in the minority.
i'm not sure if i'll add this to the updater or not yet as i'm constantly changing things at the moment
Cheers str355, appreciate it
I value my clock in the status bar when I'm in apps or on xda etc...
Ill download and try it out

no problem mate, i've just flashed the no clock file back on my phone now, lol
I'm on Oxygen v2.0 RC3. The theme looks good but there's many more icons I'm using from the iNexus theme as well as a customized status bar so I can't just flash it. My setup is mostly black/transparent/orange/green. I was after your notification menu including the power widgets. I tried to extract it and add it in to my ROM but no matter what I did (recompile, no compile just add in through 7Zip, sign, no sign, low compression, add original Meta-inf/resources.arsc), I was left with a bootloop or no boot with endless FCs. Any time I edit the framework-res.apk, I'm having no success.
Is there a separate flash for just the notification menu available, or a way for me to extract it and get it working?
Thank you.

The power Widgets are not in rc3, only the old froyo version, until Adam adds them.
This theme is built only to my needs, with the exception of he clock add-on.
I'm not going to spend the time hacking it up, your best bet would be to make a notification screen to your spec to add to your current theme

Hi bro can you do me a favor? I ask you because you have the white icons on the notification bar. I love the stock GB theme but i want the battery only as green. Its like in the one on the RC1, if you understand what i mean. Thanks!

MIUI themes are something like a big mess, everyone post things in the MIUI forum, in the internet or in the online theme section of the ROM itself, and noone have any kind of copyright, so it's quite easy to find a theme, open it, take some parts and go on. This is my first theme and first work on Android, so I started really from zero. I based my work on a theme found on the web, then added some parts from another theme. Only now, when the theme seems to be complete, I'm starting my own work. Why? Because every file has its name, and every name has a direct correspondance to a part of the ROM (which will be themed), as noob as I am, I don't know one of these name or where to find it, so I'm basing my work on files made by other and editing them and replacing with my own. It could seem something not very honest, expecially for the donate button at the end (I'm not forcing anyone to donate something for a work that it's not completely made by me), but I don't know any other way to create a theme without having a base over make my work. I've just explained two times these things in this thread and, if it possible, I like to end it here with explain it every weeks to another one.
Credits are at the end, thanks for you opinion and support.

Credits need to be given to the user Amitmiz (IlStone and probably other nicknames) who made the theme on which I based my work. So credits goes to him until I've made my own one, I'm working in that way

it' strange, I'm working on it bouncing from desire to pc every 5 minutes without any kind of problem. Did you tried applying it from the theme applications?

1. A little annoying thing, some of the icons are smaller then the others: youtube, torch, superuser and recorder.
2. I would like if you can to add icons for: notepad, gt racing hd, nfs shift, root uninstaller, lock screen, motonav, miui cn updater, qqplayer (now they look like in the attached file)

1: mmmm, youtube, should work fine. Are you sure is the official app? (on my desire is working fine)
2: could you please give me the name of the apk that you can find in system-app or sd-ext/app as explained in the first post? I've not the technical time to install every app that you (whole XDA users --> i hope will ask me), check and uninstall again. If you give me the correct names, I'll be happy to add the icons

1: terribly true!! I'll fix
2: perfect!! but don't need these exact position, it needs only the name of the app, cuz' is the name of the programm which the icons make connection.
UPDATE:
themed requested icon ---> suppose that CMUPDATE will not work, have to understand why
added themed lockscreen, still W.I.P, it's a beta version, I don't like the way it's written "Slide to Unlock" and the clock which is too small.
Stay tuned for future update!!

great very well .. thanks broo

So I've had quite a few people point out that the padding does not follow Material guidelines (which is 16dp).. Although I do agree that it needs spaced over a little more, but I'm not sure how I feel about 16dp yet (but it is growing on me the more I see it). Below is a screenshot of the padding adjusted to follow material guidelines..thoughts?

Looking between the current setup and the 16dp I personally prefer the 16dp
I'll have an update tomorrow with more UI improvements and small bug fixes. This will probably be the last update for a week or so, at least until I can get more of the important stuff done (ie pull to refresh..etc), I dont like having a bunch of small releases back to back to back, like I have been doing these last couple of days lol. But I want to get this next release out soon because it puts things more inline with Material guidelines.

Tbh as an end user I personally prefer having larger releases with more content unless it is just a bug fix release take your time to make a stellar product.
UPDATE:
v1.2
- Fix issue when no states file found
- Adjust padding to match Material guidelines
- Rearrange home_layout and fix xml formatting
- Move 'Total State Time' above 'Unused CPU States'
This will probably be the last update for a week or two, at least until im able to get more of the important stuff done (ie pull to refresh..etc), sorry for all the updates back-to-back.
Great man, thanks
I might take up the offer on the icon. Hello, existz, it's nice to see you again; back from the DHD days.

Do you mind changing that the app requires a touchscreen there are devices that do not have touchscreen such as TV based devices
From developer.android.com for devices that use android.hardware.faketouch
"Note: Because applications require the android.hardware.touchscreen feature by default, if you want your application to be available to devices that provide a fake touch interface, you must also explicitly declare that a touch screen is not required by declaring <uses-feature android:name="android.hardware.touchscreen" android:required="false" />"

About Us:
Dirty Unicorns is a project that started out with no name. It was a project that was first based off AOKP back in the early days of Jelly Bean. In the early days it was just a one man show on one device, the EVO 3D. Since then, many others have joined the project and it has grown exponentially.
We have seen a lot of talent contribute to this project of ours. Big or small, the focus was always on contributing to the community. That is ultimately why we do what we do. After Jelly Bean, we decided to move to a new base, OmniROM. While AOKP was fun, OmniROM proved to be even more exciting base because it challenged us to see what we could do with a project that had different goals in mind. We learned a lot and again, gain contributors. With Lollipop, we moved to an AOSP base with a lot of patches from CAF to make our older devices function as they should. We grew even more and learned a whole lot more.
It has been an awesome learning experience and is still not over! We are still learning every day and continue to move forward. Lastly, we DO NOT accept, nor ask, for donations. We don't believe in that. Everything that is necessary to keep this project going is out of our own pocket. Gerrit, Jenkins, Websites, Devices, etc. We will never ask for a dime. All we do ask, is that you have patience, search, read and try to enjoy the process with us!!

I'm getting a FC from the theme chooser, what gives?
This is due to restoring data/apps from Google. Go ahead and clear data and cache for theme chooser and theme provider then reboot you should be good moving forward.
I changed my LCD density and now the navbar looks weird, what gives?
This is currenly an issue that we are aware of and addressing. For now after you changed density reset navbar layout or stay on the stock density.
