Weather App HTC - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

No HTC Weather and no navigator Copilot. Camera looks like crap also.
I just upgraded to W7 not because i wanted to but because I got so sick and tired of 6.5 not working. Not a thing I could do, 3/10 times I had to reset.
But Now where is all the applications? Where is the HTC weather application and the games and everything else my phone use to have. Maybe I am missing something or it is so obvious i have not seen it. BUt I want my home page to display critical info like it did in htc with 6.5. And I need my navigator maps back also. Co-pilot cannot find any navigators anywhere.
And is there a work around for the market place issue.

Here is the short answer.
You can get full Live services working (with Market access) to download all of the apps you want with the simple tutorials in this forum

you can use navigon with uk maps.
New camera full resolution is available plus htc weather is downloadable also you can get the weather channel on app market.
Wp7 is excellent for my hd2 you just need to search & yee shall find my friend.

HTC weather app link
Do you have a direct link to download the HTC weather. I use this app a lot as I do photography in different countries.

either download HTC Hub after you get marketplace access or just flash this ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944995
it's cooked into the ROM, as is chevron etc.. so all you have to do to get market access is call MS and get a code.

God help u another issue
Now that problem has a solution I have to spend 3 years in PhD School just to sync the dam thing. Why would i want my contacts and agendas in cyberspace? Sensitive info is between outlook and my phone.
These guys are forcing us into a place I am not comfortable with. Too much is syncing with too much. I visit Imdb and all my friends know. I go to the toilet and it comes up on skype "In the toilet"
Soon they will just digitize us into F.B.

More reading existing threads and less *****ing please.

I am venting because I though technology should make it easier. Drop the device on the cradle it syncs and that is that. Why is it so hard to sync. Why change a good thing? I have no idea why improve trivial things like the aesthetic and lose the things business people need (the entire reason for the smart phone is not music and videos)
I can vent cant i?
My Business HTC has now become a Toy Iphone, better at music than anything related to work. I think after reading the sync issue is a deal breaker, let me get this thing off my phone I have work to do.

http://www.companionlink.com/windowsphone/outlook/
maybe a fix for the sync issue

bravo.... afraid of syncing with the cloud, and solve it by syncing with g**gle? lol...

I think in your case its going to be alot longer than 3 years!
You've just installed an OS on your phone that you know nothing about, did you not think of doing a little bit of "reading" about WP7 before you put it on your phone
I'm not going to tell you whats just happened to your SD card

honestly why did they make it so hard?
Why force people to depend on the internet?
Why stop all the features that made me get rid of my Iphone.
Yes the UI is a dream, and 6.5 was a punishment but the good thing was flexiblity. Drop stuff on your SD card. And what happens when you are in some strangers house and need to give them a photo or a file?
Document sync needs another PhD.
I am on teh fence cuz I like the user interface because it works so fast and clean.
W7 the best way to convert your Business HTC into an Iphone.

I read about it, and the reviews didnt tell me about the sync issue or the office issues. Would it be so stupid to assume that a bloody smart Phone (i.e not a stupid phone) should be able to sync with easy. Now I have owned every smart phone known to manking even the good old Psion and the XDA o2, for the first time I have seen a smart phone turn into a normal phone.

Sell the phone, leave this forum. It will only mean fewer pointless spam threads like this one for the rest of the members who actually are able to read.

You can set WP7 to sync that stuff automatically with your skydrive. You can just give people the URL...

@ chumaj001 if you dont like a thread why are you replying Is communism forcing you to make useless remarks? NEVER understand these kind of people. You dont like it but you feel good by talking trash. Some of us actually buy these phones for their applications in the real world not for gadget boys toys.

I do have the solution to all you problems.....
Send me your HD2 and I will give you my old Nokia 6110 phone. It has no issues at all and does a great job calling and receiving calls. Seems perfect for your needs and level,
Cheers !

SMS Password

Alright so everyone can prob agree... We have all these sweet ass phones that we mod ourselves to give it our own touch. Well don't you hate it when people go to see your phone and they're all like, "Hey let me see that, it looks sweet!!" blah blah blah... then they go and look in your text messages. Kinda annoying when I let someone play with my device and they try to get into my personal business.
Well basically what I am asking with all the talent out there... Is there a simple program that someone(s) would be willing to try to create that makes our SMS passcoded. Basically anytime you want to go into your messaging folder that includes your inbox, sent, outbox, drafts... that they need to enter in a simple 4 digit passcode. I bet I'm not the only one that would like this program....
Thanks in advance!
i would love to have something like this...not just for sms but for all programs. i remember my first cheap phone (motorola) they have this feature to block/allow apps and be passcoded. it would be great to have something like this....just a question as if its a popular request i guess....
great idea!
i love this motorola function, i'll love to see an application to do this on our phone.

It's okay, but as I said in another thread it can be a little *clunky* to use. And I know I paid WAY TOO much for something that should eb relatively simple.
yea...ive been wanting a program like that for a whileee!! i know somebody out there can develop a nice simple program that ask for a password for certain app...

Been trying this out for a while today... works pretty good... Just kinda plain and boring looking though. So if anyone is still up to the challenge to make something very similar but maybe a little more modern looking.
Hey all,
I agree with the fact that this type of software could be in high demand. I am not a developer myself, but I did design a Wisbar theme called VistaMobile, so I would definitely be willing to skin the program if someone could do the coding. I really love this whole PPC scene (started with an MPx200 Smartphone about 3 years ago, now using an HTC Uni), and I really want to give back and be a part of something more than the VistaMobile theme I had created.
I should also be able to host the file with a dedicated page on my protogenLabs site, if any developers are out there and wishing to team up.
That might just be wishful thinking, but regardless, it would be great have a stylish version of this type of program. More and more people in North America are finally getting used to Windows Mobile being somewhat mainstream, so I think it's a good market ready to flourish!
Sorry if I went on a bit of a tangent, but I'm all for a program that would do this sort of thing.
PM or contact me from my protogenLabs page if you are a dev interested in partnering up with a designer for ANY projects really...
Thanks!

There's to be no talk of WAREZ on this site.
You should try reading the rules
11. Don't get us all in trouble
Don't post copyrighted materials or do other things that will obviously lead to legal trouble. If you wouldn't do it on your own homepage, you probably don't want to do it here either. This does in no way mean we agree with everything Hollywood, the record companies and the software piracy lobby try to impose on us, it simply means you cannot break any laws here since otherwise we'll end up dealing with your legal hassle. Please use common sense: respect the forum, its users, and those that write great code.

i don't think so... i think a simple password prompt for accessing SMS/Email messages would be cool.. problem is, all the software currently out there is bloat and full of extra stuff that most of us don't need.
this can probably be done with mortscript but again, it requires additional installed programs..
i'm still looking around, but there isn't much in terms of what we're looking for.
now if we could only get some interested coders in this thread to whip something up
eye on privacy is a good one... theres alot of other stuff like a "safe sms" inbox that stores txts you don't want other people to see when you enter a 2ndary password. It can also lock dialing functions, call history, contacts, calender, tasks, and notes.
Then it gets into some really paranoid features that no one will ever use unless you're 007.
The pin screen that comes up when you go to your inbox is very finger friendly but the one that comes up when you go to the program to set the password and change settings is not.

Searching Friends problem on Facebook by using my HD2

hey guys,
I'm trying to add some new friends from Facebook by my HD2, but I can't search any new friends!! ;(
However, it works on IPhone but why not windows phone.
Anyone know about these?
Let me know Please
Thank u in advance
anyone can help??
You've not given us enough information to help you.
How are you trying to add friends? How do you expect it to work, and in what way does it not?
Incidentally, silly comments like "it works on my iPhone" will get you nothing other than silly comments like "use your iPhone then".

Thanks John,
Well, i go to "Friends" Tag, and click "Search" then i input the person's name which i'm trying to search, however, there is no other results come out apart from the person which i have added.
But my friend show me on his IPhone, once he input the name and then click search, there are numbers of results come out even he didn't add.
Did i make it a bit clear now??
Very Sorry if i confuse you guys, because English is not my first language
I have had this problem before on my TP2, it will search for people in my friends but not people I do not know.
Never managed to get to the bottom of why this happens, Sorry.
As far as I'm aware, the search function is for searching within your friends, not for searching for new friends. I don't think you can do that with the application.
The application is not meant to be a replacement for the facebook website, but rather a sort of middleware app that gets information from the site for you, and allows you to do some minor updates.
You'll still need to use the main site to do lots of things.
If it helps, you can use http://m.facebook.com/ on the phone to get the mobile version, which is a lot lighter than the full version and doesn't use any ajax or flash (which would slow the browser down considerably!)
Hope this helps

eagerly waiting for my HD2 have some questions

Hi I sold my telstra touch hd and briefly went to google for a month and had the droid. It was a fair phone and had a great UI and i liked certain things such as google navigation the handcent sms, google voice. However certain deal breakers started to arise, I could not surf the internet and talk on the phone at the same time, there was no sirius radio application, the soft keyboard was terrible, the mms still needed work, i missed copy and paste, i didnt like all the "green" that was everywhere, no decent attractive music player. Anyhow I went promptly back to ATT and ordered the hd2 telstra. I know how to hard spl my phone put in roms etc, my questions are:
1. what is the most commonly used navigation software for winmo or what is the best to use with the hd2? I have been searching but can't seem to pick one, is there a cab around here? is it already bundled with hd2?
2. what roms are being offered that do no include htc messaging? I seem to have only found one. Does anyone know which chefs there are that offer this? i went on htc pedia and it seems like miri and dutty dont offer this removal yet for hd2.
3. is there a voice to text cab available much like google 2.1's voice to text?
4. i want to install facebook panel onto the hd2 and i think i found a thread that tells you how, or does anyone have a tutorial?
5. google just released a web app for iphone for their google voice, has anyone tried this web app on their hd2? or what is the best gv dialer to use at the moment?
6. is pandora now available for hd2?
i think thats it your help is most appreciated, please dont attack me if these are similar questions asked before, i did go over the forum and searched thank yu
is there anyone that can help

I don't know if the "Oz" version comes with it but in the UK it comes with a trial version of Co-Pilot as part of the rom although its not that hard to add other apps instead of this...at the moment Igo,Tomtom,GarminXT and Navigon seem to be the most popular add ons (tried them all myself and TT's winning for me so far as I'm pretty familiar with it although I do like the "live" services you get with Garmin )

Android .exe is there one?

Hi all have had my HD2 for 3 months now and have all the usual issues and it has been back to Vodafone a few times I dont really want to get rid of it as it is perfect size etc for vids and calendar sms for and an old codger like me for work with bad eyesight..
Heres the question I am not brain of britain at this sort of thing and want to know if there is an Android .exe I can run from my micro sd card that has all the upgraded stuff you need for a stable phone........I can add apps and that sort of thing but my technical knowledge is somewhat vague....I dont understand what Froyo is and your terms for radio this that and the other and could be surfing on here for days and not understand much....
I understand the dual boot bit as in the Windows operating system ( or not as the case is )
and Android effectively runs over the top of it but thats as far as I can get...
Any help would be gratefully received..
Regards Lee F
ps has anyone else had their phone dial out evertime you play a track on Nitro?....I came back from France to find each time I changed a song it dialed hope for 10 seconds and had a huge bill of .75p connection charge some 90 odd times......
what ....when ...how...im confused
Android is in fact a whole other system compared to Windows Mobile, and as of now, it isn't completely finished/'out of beta' yet. It is still less stable than Windows Mobile is on your device.
What I do suggest you to do is take a look at this thread, and get started with HSPL'ing your phone, so you can install a custom ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
The phone dialing out is one thing it shouldn't be doing for sure.
Actually sounds like a trojan horse.
Did you change the song with your wired headset? Because it can be used to dial the last dialed number that could be your problem. Also some earphones/speakers without a button can sometimes initiate it when you move the plug around....

Well, that's no way to treat a fellow! Y'ought to explain to 'im.
Android on the HD2 is not finished yet (and will always require things like flashing or other not noob safe things) and has therefore some bugs, problems and limitations. For someone who isn't that good with technical things and hasn't read/understood all those guides it could cause some problems and misunderstandings etc. I can imagine someone sending in his HD2 for repair because his ambient light sensor doesn't work in Android...
...or at least opening some threads here and asking tons of dumb questions that could be easily answered by reading the stickies or using the search.

There is no such .exe file. To Run Android you only need to run a .exe and a few files with it. But without a suitable Radio (the part of you operating system that is responsible for Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS and everything else that sends/receives data over the air), you will get problems. But finding and updating a suitable Radio sadly isn't as easy as running a .exe
But there are many guides on it which should help you, in case you still want to do it.
Buddy,
Right at the top of the forum here there are sticky threads that contain all the information you need to get HD2 running android. Please post you're questions there instead of opening a new thread.

WinMo Security Management

Hi there!
I might have missed any other threads discussing the following but unfortunately I couldn't find a related topic by searching for the term security. Actually, the search function didn't return anything when entering the string "security". Anyways, let's get started:
A friend of mine recently got a HTC Legend and told me a very intersting story. When installing a simple battery app, the installer asked him to gain permission to access his contact list, his gps coordinates and many other things. This made me currious in terms of: is there any way in WinMo enabling the same permission check before installing an application?
Regards,
Zoimt
Nope, I don't think so.
You may enable the security policy that will ask you every time you run a new cab or file, but still it won't show you what "connections", "resources" or "devices" does the app use.
That is weak, very weak and disappointing... I wouldn't care at all if I hadn't got mobile internet just recently. This actually is a no-go. I gotta get rid of this windows crap this instant. But on the other hand, this just sounds typically windows to me...
There isn't any piece of software that can do such things like monitoring which service accesses what resources? I better have a closer look at the WinMo api, smells like money. I just need people to get as scared as I'm right now...
::Edit::
Jeees, I just saw that I posted this in the wrong forum. I want to excuse for that, must have missclicked, wanted this to appear in the Software forum. Please forgive me peeps. Have a nice!

No problem for me, I'm not a mod to judge this
Well the Android security system is little more enhanced here. but at the end of day it there's no mechanism to give you 100% security.
Sure you can refuse to install a wallpaper app that asks for your location permissions. but if you install some location aware app then there's no guarantee that it doesn't collect your private data and upload it on some websites....
