what version of the firmware are you using? Dexter's?
Did you install any software just prior to it doing this?
Have you tried to do a reset with the reset switch in the back of the unit? use a paper clip to push the button.
Try doing a data wipe on the unit through the settings but this will wipe data and application settings. "Factory data reset" in Privacy settings.

I'm running Dexter's Mod , and I tried the Elocity update and Factory data reset also , I'm sure it's not software issue ..

similar screen issue
Noticed other people were having random screen anomalies and thought I'd post mine too.
Generally, my screen works as advertised (which is to say adequate at best), but doesn't always respond to my touches. However, when I play Jewels, it reads my gestures on the left side of the screen (in portrait) and registers it on the right side of the screen. It is an intermittent issue.

[Q] Returning my Iconia a500

Hey guys, just got the tablet for a couple of days but i have found alot of issues with it, i have read nearly everything on this forum but just cant apply any fixes to my problems. I will list down the issues hope any of you guys might be able to help.
1. GPS does not work even with wifi on or off, dosent matter cant find any satalites whatsoever.
2. Update issue, maybe its just Australia but from reading the forums in regards to whos got what updates and such, it seems like most Australians are not getting any updates.
3. I cant do a hardware reset unless im doing it wrong? i put a pin into the reset button and held it for awhile and it didnt do anything.
You've made a soft reset. To hard reset you need to do this:
http://how2fix.org/hard-reset-acer-iconia-tab-a500-to-factory-settings.html
Reset Acer Iconia Tab A500 Factory Data Reset via Software Menus
From the Apps menu, tap on Settings, and then tab Privacy.
Tap on Factory Data Reset, and then tab Reset Tablet.
Tap Erase Everything to format your tablet back to factory default configuration.

I don't have any issues with GPS or updates. It updated immediately upon first boot during the setup wizard. May be the first time you start your GPS app, you need to wait a little longer - it took almost 10 minutes in my case. Go outdoors and wait a little longer. Best case is if its sunny, no high buildings around and you're not moving.
ahh i see but whats the difference between a soft reset and a hard reset? and yea i tried that i was outside for nearly 30mins and its still "searching for gps" and i dont live near any big bulidings
Soft reset is just rebooting your devise (like the reset button on a PC case). Hard reset restores the device in its original factory settings (i.e. in the state you got it the first time).
What kind of navigation software are you using? I use Sygic Aura 3 - it works pretty good on this device and its an offline navigation - once it downloads the maps through wifi it does not need internet connection. It still has some issues with tablets though - in landscape the lowest menu buttons are 80% off the screen but still "pressable".
i tried using copiolt and the normal navigation that came with the tab, and also downloaded GPS status but the gps couldnt even pick up any statelites

Unresponsive screen

Android 2.3, 407band, DSC 7.0 rom, Go launcher (default), Zeam launcher (secondary)
Today while using an app called wallbase, I hit the home button while the app was setting a wall paper for me (normally I wait until it says wallpaper set). The home screen popped up but then Go launcher had a FC error (which it has never had since I've been using it). It had the option fc or wait I hit wait. Next my wall paper went black then my screen followed by two vibrations and a notification sound I never heard my device make.
I rebooted to the lock screen with a black background and no service on the screen. It was unresponsive to my touch and after about 10sec. it gave the same two vibrations and sound from before then shut the screen off. The power button did not turn on the display so I had to hold it down for about 20sec for it to reboot to dell logo. From there i went into nandroid and flashed severals roms loaded to the lock screen, rinse/repeat, to find the same result (simple streak, streakroid, older version of dsc).
I reset permissions, wiped cache and dalvik, calibrated screen. Want to avoid a factory reset because I don't have a backup.
Help guys? Mods please move to the appropriate forum.
If all fails and you don't have another alternative.
install the DSC v0.70 update, it shouldn't delete your 'data'.
I would backup your streak, better be safe than sorry.
So I tried letting it sit with the battery out for the night (6 hours) and booting it up this morning with the ac charger. It loads to the same lock screen (standard screen with black background and no service on screen) and all my start up apps loads, it even showed me a text notification. I did notice that the time was wrong though and never changed.
Any one have this issue before? What suggestions are there to combat this? The G.Note doesn't fit into my budget right now. May have to factory reset this and sell it as a last resort.
Help guys?
Outlook for this issue looks grim. Seem others with a similiar issue on different devices have had to factory reset or return it to manufacturer.
Before I do that, is there are any possible way for me to backup some of my app data?
Anyone know if Dell still helps with this device?
I use the app cadrebible often(its the only one I really care about) but it doesn't auto sync/backup and my last manual backup must be from Dec2011 - yea makes me want to cry.
I can load into fastboot, so is there a way I can uninstall a few apps I suspect are causing the issue? Move files from the phones to the sd card/computer?
factory reset. Mod feel free to close thread. -- yes im crying.
Did you try calibrating the touch screen?

Galaxy note 3 black screen for incoming calls.

Hey guys.
This phone had been amazing however I think we we and tear might be my issue due to heavy use for business.
My current issue that I can't seem to fix is incoming calls display a black screen.
Scenario 1: phone is in pocket. Call comes in, take phone out of pocket, can't see who is calling unless I press home button a few times to wake it up.
Happens everytime
Scenario 2: phone is sitting anywhere when call comes in and screen can either be completely black or just brightness won't activate.
Happens intermittently.
I've done a full factory reset as well which didn't fix it.
It is in warranty still but I can't afford to send it off as I use this for business.
tried this?
Screen protector blocking the proximity sensor?
Otherwise I would say hardware fault
Nothing in the way at all. Stupid hardware faults.
Will trie the link you posted and see what happens. Might try cleaning it as ive seen some people do
It's very easy to clean it. I had problems with my proximity sensor. And it's 10minute fix.
watch this video until 2:20 to take apart your phone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJlsLUNsvRo
and watch this video to see how to clean it http://youtu.be/w0XDkRITMkY?t=3m30s
it is same on s4 and note 3
Cheers will do that and see how it goes

I think it is software bug rather than hardware fault (?).
That's what I'm hoping but I would have thought a factory reset would have fixed it

I'm not sure what is the real cause of the problem. But if it was a hardware fault, you couldn't turn on screen using Home button, I think.
Please note that factory reset wipe only user data and user installed apps, but apps that have been installed into the system folder will not be removed.
Try flash the latest stock firmware for your device using Odin.
Use Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app > Menu > 'Firmware Browser' to find and download stock firmware for your device, and flash it via Odin.

I ended up reflashing the original firmware, this fixed the problem.
Glad that you have resolved the problem.

S7 Edge Touch Screen Issues!

Hi Guys, newbie here so I apologise if I've posted in the wrong section, I'm sure someone will move the post if need be?
Has anyone else had issues with the touch screen on their S7 Edge because mine really is pants! An example would be when texting, it's not registering every key I press so I end up typing incomplete words. There's seems to be black spots when scrolling also mainly in line with where you'd swipe the edge function across.
Now some of the things I have tried in attempt to find a resolve are as follows:-
1.) Force restart and restart in safe mode to see if this strange activity was caused by an app.
2.) Force restart and clear cache partition during reboot.
3.) Disable edge functionality to be sure I haven't been catching the screen.
4.) Factory reset.
Now I have called EE and they are happy to send me a new device after they reached to conclusion that the device is faulty. Unfortunately they are out of stock so now I'm playing the waiting game with my faulty device whilst I wait for some new stock to arrive.
Has anyone else had this problem and did you find out what causes this to happen?

Cannot take screenshots either use smart select

OK this is weird.
I have my Note 3 running on Norma ROM v17 without problems and a ton of apps installed.
Few days ago I tried to use smart select (with the pen) when a toast message prompted "Unable to capture screenshot. Prevented by security policy." . Well I just ignored for the moment thinking that something went wrong with facebook app which I was trying to capture.
However this seems to be permanent behavior. I can't take screenshots neither by Power + Home combination neither by SmartCapture not even if I try to use a third party application!
Did anyone had faced the same problem again?
Can somebody point me to the direction to solve this?
One last addition.
I don't know if it is related to this problem but I have to report it. The device boot animation is getting resized to top left of the screen every time the device boots. What on earth can cause this?
I"m back wirh a solution.
I was for more days trying to discover how to solve this problem.
Finally I decided to backup my data and wipe the system.
And then I noticed a command lying in the menu called "Reset settings" which I had to try instead of resetting to factory default the phone.
So this command cleared the settings (I really dont know which particular settings were cleared though ) without losing my apps, data, phone setup etc.
The problem fixed.
