[Q] Dexter still not working!! - A7 General

I downloaded the dexter mod via get right...it shows a 92.20 mb downlaod...i am downloading it from the page here where dexter posted in in the applications thread...
I performed a wipe data before I tried to install...should I try another sdcard? Still has the message...
Install from sdcard
finding update package
opening update package
E: can't open/sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directory)
formatting MISC...
i would appreciate any help...I've done this numerous times and it still won't work...
Is there another link i might try to get the mod?
Can someone send me the mod?
Any other ideas?

Root directory
when I put the dexter mod on the sdcard, there is nothing else showing on it..I have also formatted the card and reinstalled the program...am I doing something wrong here? how do I make sure I am putting the mod in the root directory?
Thanks

Okay......did you rename dexters mod to Update.zip (make sure it's not Update.zip.zip. If your using Windows just right click and rename it to Update and press enter)? The root is the first directory you come to when you explore the card.
What method are you using to update? Are you shutting it down and then booting into recovery?

Recovery
I am booting into recovery mode as it says in the forum..press on, release press and hold...I will check renaming the file...trying another sdcard also...I'll let you know

I didn't do it that way. I just put the card in with the Update.zip file that I renamed...went into settings-->about device-->system updates where it looked for the "Update" file.

Size Matters
I encoutered this and began noticing the downloaded file was smaller than indicated when transfer initiated. I was getting files less than 50mb but should have been just over 90mb, using bad download file will cause failure in flashing. Verify your file size.

[Q] newb trying Dextermod 1.3

I downloaded the Dextermod 1.2 without issue to my sd card, but applying mod didn't not show android market but did erase any apps loaded from appoke market. So I found and tried to download 1.3, but it does not ask to change file name and then says download unsuccessful in the notifications bar. Tap it and get popup, "Cannot download. The content is not supported on this phone." So I try the 1.2 mod again and get the same message. Anyone else with this problem or can help me with a fix?
Downoad it on a computer and put it on your sd, android webkit browser doesnt like zip files.
Rename it Update.zip before running.
Looks like your new like me. I downloaded to sd card. (make sure card is clean. I had a problem with that first-no windows files) Also I downloaded file from my pc to the card in a dongle Then transfered card to the A7. went to file manager. found the file on the card (elocitymodv13) under sdcard\sdcard-disk0 and then press on it until menu came up and hit rename and then renamed it update.zip. finally go through the routine of powering off A7, then hit power key for 2 seconds, let off, and then hit power button again until message comes on screen about entering recovery mode.
Then use the menu key on side of screen to enter recovery menu once the android image shows up. you then need to use search key and back key on side of screen to move up and down the menu. First move highlight down to "Wipe/factory reset" and hit menu button to apply command. (Dexter recommends wiping the slate clean to ensure proper function of his mod.) When that is done, you will see the menu again and move down to "apply sdcard:update.zip" and hit menu buttom to apply command. this will then put the new mod. on the system. The only other thing that will be neccessary is to go back and download the "ElocityMod v1.3 bluetooth fix" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890042 . This update gets applied the same way as above except you dont obviously need to use the wipe/factory reset command again. This will give you bluetooth function back. I hope this is clear enough.
I have been trying since I got the thing to tether it to my windows mobile phone. Good luck with that. I still haven't found an answer. take care.
file name
as stated
download the file to your computer. then rename it to update. Just
update
You don't need to put .zip at end because its already a zip file. Then transfer it on to your sd card. Easiest way is to open your My computer drag and drop to the dir that is sd card on your computer that way it automatically goes into the root of the sd card.
then do the as stated flash update procedure.

Jesus, this just doesn't stop.
The file NEEDS TO BE Update.zip
Please read the writeup I just made this morning describing why people are getting screwed up on this, how to fix it, and why I rag on people like you who put out misinformation.

Download the latest Acer stock ROM to your PC (many stock roms found on this page). Transfer it to your external SD card and make sure to rename it "update.zip". Boot holding down volume and power until you see lines of text, then let it do it's thing
thanks for the info! I found a ROM on this thread.. not sure if its the latest 3.1 build.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154492
so I downloaded it to my PC.. comes as a ZIP file.. "update_3.1".. do I unzip folder & renamed it "update.zip"? or do I leave it zipped, rename it and transfer to SD card & boot up? again thanks for the help
Leave it named update.zip do not unzip
downloaded the update_3.1 file from that thread.
renamed folder "update.zip", left compressed.
transferred to external SD card on phone.
placed SD card into tablet, booted up by holding the power & volume button.
take you into SD update cmd: recovery..
its looking for the folder..
then comes on the android logo with an exclamation point!
no good..
might it be the ROM? any suggestions..

If you downloaded it from the first link, the file needs to be decrypted first. I believe the second link on that page from megaupload is already decrypted. But that would be where the problem is.
And yes that is the latest build from Acer for the US!
I'm not sure what you mean.. consider me a noob at this.. never installed a ROM before.. encrypted or decrypted.. what would be what I need? couldn't find that second link you mentioned..

Right on! You know you can use clockwork mod to backup your system so it doesn't happen again.
You should use one of these versions, since your in the US.
4.010.07_COM_GEN2
4.010.08_COM_GEN2
4.010.11_COM_GEN2
4.010.13_COM_GEN2 (latest, not sure if it's posted anywhere yet)
The .40 version is not a US build.
interesting.. not sure what the difference is but can someone please post up 4.010.13_COM_GEN 2 & a how-to-install!

4.010.13 isn't a full rom like the one posted, merely an update.it can be obtained by simply checking for an update in "about device" in settings

Manual Gingerbread update issues.

I have noticed a few other people having the same issues. When i try manually updating my phone, I get error no image. I tried renaming it just PD15IMG but it still shows up as PD15IMG.zip when trying to install via. hboot. I have followed the steps. I formatted my SD card, put the file on there, turned fast boot off, powered down the phone, hold the volume down button + power button and then hboot shows up, it tries to load and i get the error. Is there any other way I can try renaming the file? maybe it is the reason it will not recognize it as a update img.

Are you using this http://megaupload.com/?d=N8XGHXJC uploaded by Gr33nF0x. I used this file 2-3 times now with 0 issues. If this is the file you have try a different sdcard. You don't half to rename it just do this
How to install this update (IF YOU ARE ROOTED YOU WILL LOSE IT )
You will lose apps and data on the phone but all data on sdcard will be fine
1. Download the PD15IMG.zip file posted http://megaupload.com/?d=N8XGHXJC
2. Put file on the root of your sdcard (leave it zipped and don't put it in any folder)
3. go to settings/applications make sure fastboot is unchecked (on 2.2.1)
4. power off
5. push and hold volume down and power till you get into hboot
6. it will scan file when its done it should ask you to update push volume up
I have tried it multiple times with 3 different SD cards. I've tried renaming it etc.
Did you try redownloading and checking MD5?

It's pretty much used to confirm the integrity of a file, good with large files that are downloaded.

So I had a fellow from the forums send me his, still won't work. I'm beginning to suspect its my phone.
worked great for me thanks!!!
Can someone post a how-to video for me? I know its asking a lot. The only reason I am so eager to do this 1. I am a prepaid customer, It will take forever to get the OTA 2. the closest t-mobile RETAIL store is 80+ miles away. I have followed wolf's steps, attempted to check the MD5 of the file but can't seem to find the MD5 code on greenfox's file. Any further help would be much appreciated. This is the MD5 code that i got off the file, I just have nothing to match it against - c38aa6e2572ecec383eac5d6412dc6bf. Can anyone confirm or deny the MD5 checks out for me please.

Cant delete CWM backups from internal SD Card

Need some help here:
I need to delete some of the backups I made with CWM recovery. I already have them backed up onto my PC, but need to delete them to make some room. For some reason I cant.
Ive tried root explorer, es file explorer, and my PC. Im unable to change the permissions of the files, and if you look at the pics I attached youll see they have some strange permissions, but I cant change them.
I am able to move the files anywhere else in the sd card folder, rename them, but no matter what I cant delete them. And when I try from my PC it shows them disappear, but they are actually still there.
If there is a way to format the sd card folder I will, but thats not an option in the settings, or CWM. Can someone please help me out here? This is really frustrating me. Thanks
No issues here when I delete backups using ROM Toolbox.

Same, tried with multiple apps too.
I posted this in the other thread, but figured I would do so here in case other people needed the "fix".
Ok, so some good news and some bad news.
The good news is, I was able to put together a flashable zip that WILL DELETE the entire CWM backup directory from the sdcard. It is available here:
http://core.routed.com/CWM_Backup_Wipe.zip
You simply need to flash it via CWM. Easy peasy. I confirmed that the directory/files were all removed, AND the storage space is now available for other files (I checked df before and after).
The bad news is, before attempting to delete the directory, I first tried changing the permissions (recursively) to see if that was a better "fix" for this problem. Unfortunately, even with the directory 777 and the files 666, I still could not manually delete them through the system. Which means, whatever bug is causing this problem is much more severe than a file/directory permission thing.
In any case, until the CWM developer can figure out a way to fix this bug, at least we have a way to manually remove the backups and get our storage space back.
The script in the zip is very simple. It just does a recursive delete on /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup.
Enjoy!

obb folder showing as a file, can't write / change permissions

Hi all,
I can't seem to get my obb folder to behave. After installing anything which makes a file inside it, the folder changes to a file inside any file manager including with root access.
In twrp it shows as a normal folder and can be deleted or edited, but once back in android, it reverts to this weird uneditable file...
Any clues? I can't (or rather won't) format internal storage as I don't have a micro SD and currently have lots of files in my root folder which I need in case of emergency (i.e. my twrp backups and some downloaded . zip files).
Any help would be appreciated! It's not an emergency I'm just trying to get a game working. Oh also, if it helps, when I try to download the game after folder has gone weird, play store gets to 99% then fails with error 0 every time.

You simply need to delete the obb folder from TWRP file manager.
If no success, connect your phone to pc and delete ithe folder from there. (or use some force delete software for your platform)

Hi,
I'm also facing same issue, did you find any solution ?
Please help me too..
Don't know if this means anything but if I go into file manager after a reboot it's fine for a minute or two then goes back to being weird. Can't put my finger on what causes it. I've uninstalled magisk, clean flashed my ROM, only thing left to do is format internal storage but can't do that until I get an SD card for my ROM files and backups to go on.

I also had the same issue with pixel experience rom. My Suggestion is to install a nougat based custom rom until someone finds a solution for that.

Thanks but that's not really a solution I want when it worked fine on previous builds.
Wow... You'll never guess...the issue is present in nougat ROMs too...
*facepalm*
i also faced the above problem in almost every oreo rom. But in the below rom it is normal.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/development/rom-cosmic-os-v3-1-universe-t3730547. i am using this rom as daily driver.
Hi All,
I deleted obb folder from going into root >> data >> media >> obb
Choose file manager like es file explorer or Aroma file manager.
But this is temporary solution not permanent after some time same issue will occur again.
Kindly follow this thread to solve obb data lost on Oreo custom Rom.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/how-to/guide-how-to-solve-obb-data-lost-t3744711
Thank you so much!! I don't have an SD card at the moment, however, but happy to know a solution. Does anyone know the cause??
Is there a solution for this without SD card??
EDIT: I've noticed something. The issue described in this thread seems only to happen after connecting to WiFi and downloading apps from the play store. It doesn't seem to happen before I will do that. Hope it helps.

My theory says obb folder turns into file cause system link from data/media/obb should be revoked but I'm not smart enough to know how to create system links
I noticed that when I install the pubg mobile game manually I do not lose the obb folder, just like the friend mentioned above only occurs when the game is installed directly from the play store
For those who don't have rooted devices use this method until we get a fix
