you cant do a nandroid backup on that recovery, only a tar backup
Oh, ok. Is there a different recovery that would allow me to do a nandroid backup? Or do you have a link to a tut I can follow for a tar backup? I've been searching forever and I can't find anything.

Hey!
I tried flashing a Hero rom to my HTC Magic this evening, but after flashing the phone just froze at the HTC Magic screen, it didnt reboot, it just froze.
I then tried to boot in the recovery menu, and install a earlier version of cyanogen, that i know have worked on my phone before. But the same happens, the phone just freeze at the HTC Magic screen, and nothing happens.
I have a Magic 32A
Hope that anyone here can help me, dont know what i need to do to get it working again.

2) Yes i have a Nandroid backup on my computer. I have tried taking that nandroid and copying it to a spare SDcard i have, and then boot in recovery and then choose Nandroid Restore, but i keeps saying : Error performing restore! Try running 'nandroid-mobile.sh restore' from console.
Dont know what that means
So i guess i dont have a nandroid backup, or not a working nandroid
Any ideas?

Did you rename your Nandroid backup from the original name? If so then this can cause problems when you try to restore.
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata data.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
boot to fastboot and put your nadroid system.img data.img boot.img files inside sdk tools folder
and open cmd and copy paste above

I wonder, does Nandroid backup (ClockWork Recovery) count as a current ROM backup? Even if it isn't a ZIP file? Is it usable in case of a new ROM flashing goes wrong? Is this it?
Why are there so many advices to make a .zip file of your backup? I'M CONFUSED over this... When do I have to make a .zip file out of my backup. Furthermore, a Nandroid backup makes a folder with several files in it... Do I make a .zip file of that folder?
And last but not the least...
What is the difference between Cyanogen Recovery Image and ClockWorkMod Recovery?

I already told you... you dont need to zip the nandroid backup. Just go to clockwork and when you do a nandroid restore, your backups will be there to select. No need to zip anything.....

Well, I clicked the wrong button again, so I guess I'm thanking you for asking a good question, lol!
Anyway, a nandroid is a backup file that you make in a custom ClockWorkMod recovery. Depending on what recovery version you install, your nandroid will be saved on the external micro sdcard (my preference) or on internal "sdcard". there's also a new recovery version that uses a usb flash drive.
It's basically an image of your entire system, apps, data, configuration at the time of the backup. A custom recovery, is really beneficial for the ability it gives you to make nandroid backups, and to flash zip files (roms, kernels and other mods) from within the recovery menu.

Make a Nandroid
I wanted to flash a custom ROM and decided to do a nandroid backup first. Every time i did one it did not contain the system.img file which means that the stock ROM wasn't backed up. It only backed up recovery and boot. I have the official CWM from clockwordmod.com.
Please help.
BTW. I know that i can use the stock system image from google, but it's much easier to just recover a nandroid backup.

What version of CWM are you running?
When I enter into CMW recovery, and click restore, it only shows the backups i have created in recovery mode, well before flashing a new rom I made a backup with Online Nandroid, but I can't seem to restore it because it doesn't show up in the restore recovery screen. Also, I can't seem to find the path for the restore files from the recovery backups.

Not familiar online nandroids at all, but I'm guessing it stores it somewhere other than /data/media/clockworkmod. You'll have to move the nandroid to the default CWM folder most likely.

Sadly that did not work, it backups with .tar files that CMW isn't capable of reading.. So, I have to use a previous restore.

Bummer. As a last resort you don't happen to have CWM set to back up as "dup" under backup type do you?

Nope, I did check to make sure and it was set to default.
Can you post the log file at /data/local/tmp/onandroid.log
