Calendar wont open after Dexter 1.1 install - A7 General

I installed the Dexter 1.1 mod and now I cant get my calendar open. I really need to get google calendar working on my A7 its one of the main reasons I purchased it. Any help for a newbie is welcomed.

Read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10528171#post10528171
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10958353&postcount=412
I need to do the same thing.

Ok, yes I'm a noob! How do I get to the root explorer to change the name of the calendar app?

You first have to install Root Explorer.
It allows you to change permissions for your files so you can move, delete, rename, etc. them.
While in Root Explorer, you will see a button near the top that says, "Mount R/W"
That button switches between read-only and read-write permissions for the folder you are viewing. To change a file, you need to tap that button.
If it says, "Mount R/O," then you have permission to change files.
There is a good video on YouTube that shows how to use Root Explorer at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ChTvvmRR6Y
He actually demonstrates how to rename a file in the video.
So, in Root Explorer, navigate to /system/app folder.
Tap the "Mount R/W" button so it says "Mount R/O"
long press on calendar.apk and choose rename. Rename to calendar_old.apk.
Find the correct calendar.apk on your sd card, long press on it and choose copy.
Navigate back to /system/app folder.
tap on Paste.
Tap the "Mount R/O" button to lock your permissions.
You are done!
(Hopefully, Dexter will include the working calendar in his latest ROM)

Thank you I will give that a try tomorrow. I really appreciate all the work Dexter does. I must admit I haven't had much time to learn the Droid OS. Honstly I just want to know enough to install the Dexter updates and use my A7 for internet, mail and keep track of my rather large officiating schedule. Is there an easier to use calendar app that I could purchase? Honestly outside of MS Outlook I almost prefer a dayplanner type monthly calendar to anything I've seen or tried for iPhone Droid. I'd like a monthly view that you can see a few details in. Just simple I dont need a million functions outside of syncing with google cal. Any suggestions?

Phone folders/directories

In thru OfficeSuite>Phone>System>Media, you find Ringtones and Notifications.
HOW can I put files into these folders?
My PC only sees the Mem Card, not the phone itself??
Also, has anyone found the folder for the Wallpapers directory?
Access to this also?
Thanks.
u can use astro from market it is file manager
Sent from my X10i using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
So, I'm guessing, put mp3's into audio, wallpapers into pic folder on card, then use astro file manager to move them to the phone directory..?
Well, so far, astro has allowed me to browse thru the phone directories, but copy/move any files in there?? Nope.. I can browse the directories without any 3rd party apps, so astro, although easy to look at, offers no benefit to me as yet..
Yes you can copy and or movefiles with astro. When inside a folder hit your left menu button, select edit, select all, then manually deselect the files you do not want to move, then hit the menu button again, edit, copy-or-move. Back out and navigate to the folder you want too place the file into, menu, edit, paste. Sort of round about but it works.
Sent from my X10a using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
I tried the same thing, using ES File Explorer (which I find much more practical than Astro). No luck.
Could the problem be that we don't have permission to write to the phone's storage, rather than a problem with the apps?
yes, u have not the permission to write in the telephone memory! but its not becessary, us the sdcard, it will work.

Sounds good in theory, however already tried this, and the "Paste" option is not available once i'm in the file folder i want to put the files into..
Also, still hoping someone will shed some light on the location of the wallpaper gallery..

Anyone have Polaris Office working?

I have the tablet version .apk installed that was posted in the collection of Transformer apps, I think in the Xoom forum. Anyways, it opens fine before it force closes, but when I try to open my resume it crashes. I tried installing it outright and also putting in system/app. Both ways give the same results, it opens then crashes when opening a file. I cleared the data, reset the device, nothing.

Did you check the apk details to see if there's some sort of license/drm check?
Many apps and games are now coming with a license check, just like computer software to make certain people aren't pirating them. Something could be checking for a serial number.
I don't know if that's a paid version too. If so, I'm pretty sure discussing pirated apps is against ToS. If it's a freely available thing then, no worries. I'm waiting, maybe forever for a LibreOffice port to Android. Probably be a long while, dunno how well Dalvik and something that big would play together.

That's true, it may be a paid app. If so I'm not trying to do anything that's frowned upon here. I do know that the app isn't available in the market yet. I think I'm gonna put this off for a while and see what happens with the official release because it's obviously not working right now.
From what little I can learn Polaris Office comes preiinstalled on the Transformer tablet only. I found advice that I needed to move two lib files over to system/lib to make it work. Well I only found one lib file, copied to system/lib and still crashes. I can get it display some stuff but it won't let me start a new doc or read an exist in doc. There are some nice YouTube videos showing how it works, and it looks real nice. I hope some can figure it out.
Look at this post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1114100
The two files are libpolarisoffice_Clipboard.so and libpolarisoffice.so. It works fine for me without any FCs.
Yep, It Works For Me Too..
but you have to push the two lib files to system/lib using ADB (or Root Explorer)
Thanks for the names of the two file...it works! I am amazed at how this info is found and shared

Perfect, thank you. I knew there had to be a way.
However (you just knew there was going to be a however!), Polaris Office loads OK, but many of the functions don't work. For example I am able to type in text for a new document but very few of the tools at the top work and I can't highlight any portions of the text. There must still be something missing to make it work correctly. When I do a check for updates within the program it says I am up to date. Any one else seeing these problems?

Seems to be OK for me, I've had it running for nearly 2 weeks now. What functions specifically aren't working for you? I'll try them on mine...
I found a couple of YouTube videos by andyxover that I was able to try out. I could do all of his examples.
The problems/limitations that jumped out at me were
(1) you can not move pictures around in a document (MS Word limits you also)
(2) in spreadsheets you have to type in the blind when you are making enties into boxes
I need to ply around more to get a better feel for this UI.

1. Yes you can. Single tap on the image and it will select.. Then you can move it where you want within reason.
2. There is no "in cell" editing. Editing is in the text box at the top of the screen.

Hello, I was readig your posts looking for help and maybe you can help me, as I can see you solved the problem.
I have an Acer Iconia A500 w/Honeycomb and tryed to install Polaris Office.
I donwloaded the P.O. files and read the txt file: (Using root explorer or adb, push the two lib files to system/lib.).
Downloaded and install rootexplorer, copy to pen drive "lib files", opened rootexplorer, copied lib files then went to System File, opened lib file, did hit paste and a warning message says this file is reading only.
I began to investigate and found that needed to root the device, I did it and tested with root checker, it said it was rooted succesfully, and then repited the hole process, again, read only file.
I was reading posts and found that what I think is the problem, "Fix permissions", so it let me paste the 2 lib files. But still havent found the answer to this. Is there a step I missed? or I'm just doing it all wrong?
I thought if I could find the way to solve the "fix permissions" problem and could paste the 2 lib files in System/lib folder it would be the solution, but can´t paste the 2 files. What should I do?
Thanks in advance for reading and helping me.
It's kind of funny.
You've missed an option in Rootexplorer. It has a button on the top corner that says "Mount R/W" press it and copy the files. You have an old version of rootexplorer if it doesn't have that option.
Ok, here goes:
OPEN Rootexplorer,
top right is the Remount as R/W button, click on it and it changes to Remount R/O
found MNT folder and click, foun usb_storage folder and click,
found the folder I made with 2 lib files and click,
Multiselect and mark: libpolarisoffice.so and libpolarisoffice_Clipboard.so files and Copy
Back to System folder and then to lib folder, click PASTE and " You cannot paste here because the file system is read-only.
What happen??? What am I doing wrong?

By the way, the 2 lib files have an icon in golden color with a star i brown color, would it mean something?

Opened the system file folder, found the lib file folder, opened and tried to paste:
the same answer "You cannot paste here because the system file is read-only"
But I noticed something, when I click R/W it changes to R/O, when I open system folder to Paste the Remount automaticaly changes to R/W again after it was R/O, I don´t know if it something important to this case, afted denied access I cilk the remount button again, just to see if it changes to R/O, but it doesn´t.
I usually just copy the files and then press the r/w button and paste. I don't leave the folders. You shouldn't have problems if you're rooted.

Just double check with rootchecker and it says I have root access.
I don't know! Maybe is not for me this time.
Thanks a lot for your time

Looking for Bell OTA (2.3.4) DockService.apk

Hi,
I was wondering if somebody could upload system/app/DockService.apk from Bell. My system version is 45.2.17.MB860.BellMobility.en.CA
Looks like I removed the original DockService.apk by accident while I was testing out some WebTop feature.
Your help would be much appreciated!
Here are the steps how to get DockService.apk if you have Root Explorer and a micro SD card.
1. Launch Root Explorer (you will be on the root directory)
2. Scroll down and open "system" folder by tapping
3. Open to "app" folder by tapping
4. Scroll down until you find DockSerivce.apk
5. Hold down the file for a sec, you will see a pop-up window with options
6. Select "Copy" (you will see Paste and Cancel buttons at the bottom)
7. Hit back button twice (this will bring you back to the root directory)
8. Scroll down until you find "sdcard-ext" folder
9. Tab the folder and tap "Paste" button at the bottom
10. Plug your atrix onto a pc and go to your the SD card on Windows Explorer
11. Upload the file
It's much simpler than how it looks.
I found out that my DockService.apk was the original. The reason why it didn't work was the permissions got changed during copy & paste some how. I changed the permissions back to rw-w-w like other files in "app" folder, everything works fine.

I am presuming you mean "File Expert"
Do this to allow you to delete system files:
1. Click the menu key and select More.
2. Within that menu click Settings
3. Select "File Explorer Settings"
4. Scroll down and select "Root Explorer"
5. Click "Allow" in the window that pops up
no root button in explorer
Okay let's do this another way.
1. Download ES File Explorer from the Market
2. Open it up and press the menu button and select "Settings"
3. Scroll all the way down and select "Root Explorer" and "Mount File System"
There.
thank worked can this way delet stock apps
You can, but don't get too crazy, some apps are needed for the system to function properly

For the latest ES File Explorer v3.03:
On the left hand panel "Tools->Root Explorer->Mount R/W" then pick your preferred options.
I ended up writing the developer to get the answer after searching the Web and only finding an unanswered 7 day old post on his own forum with the exact same question.
Here is another hard to find answer. I consider WebDav on-line storage to be a cloud service but you cannot add a WebDav service under "Network->Cloud". You add your WebDav log-on/server info under "Network->FTP".
The developer could to add more documentation in a FAQ. Over time that will save him time and keep his customers happy. I hate contacting developers directly as I would rather they spend their time maintaining/improving their products but in this case I had no choice. The product if free so some rough edges can be expected.

Thank you very much. I always thought that this option must be in setting. I did not want to switch to another file explorer since ES file provide local file control and FTP file control, which are all I need, with pretty user interface. Therefore I searched for how to turn 'root access' on for weeks but fail.
The developers should properly put it in setting also.

I went looking for answer to why all the checkboxes for changing READ WRITE HIDDEN properties of ANY files are gone from the properties and I was led here. it sounded you guys are answering the questions but the settings screen showed it has already been set to Readable Writable. did anyone of you came across this ? I only noticed those properties checkboxes are gone with the latest version of ES FILE EXPLORER and with them, the ability to modify the properties of any files.

The change properties is there. All you have to do after you set Root Explorer "on" (left panel) and Mount R/W:
- browse to the directory where the file you want to change property is in
- press and hold that file till the file got selected
- press "more" command (at bottom menu bar) and choose "Properties"
- then you get the idea how to proceed
Hi all,
I'm using ES 3.1 and am unable to edit system files.
I have enabled "Root explorer" but there is no Root menu in tools.
Also SuperSU doesn't list ES as either allowed or denied: like ES has never asked root permission.
Any help?

After you set Root Explorer to "ON", tap where it says "Root Explorer", not on the On/Off button. This should bring up the Root Explorer menu. Select Mount R/W and set everything to RW. This should trigger SuperSU to ask to grant root permissions.

I found out by accident that I need to change the setting to Mount R/O and NOT Mount R/W for the File Properties tickboxes to appear and tickable. I have no idea why this is happening and I feel silly that I didn't play around the setting earlier and only found out this "solution" one fine morning.

For mine, the solution is to set it to R/O and not R/W. That's why I was stumped for months as I didn't play around the setting and thought that the setting has already been set correctly at R/W. Perhaps, some bugs or misprogramming at the root system level of the phone during the rooting process. I have absolutely no idea but for anyone facing the same problem finding those File Properties tickboxes, this is your possible solution.
What a PITA! ES has been my go-to root explorer for years, now it's a giant hot mess! My problem starts, I suppose, with the Android switch to MTP storage, which I detest with a vengence, it makes the storage a confusing mess of ambiguous mount points. From there, Titanium compounded my issue (that app has been flaky from day 1!) by mis-reporting its inability to save a backup as insufficient storage available, when it was, in fact, a permissions issue on the media mount point. It took some time to figure that out. By then I knew what the issue was and I knew I needed to mount /system to be writable, a task which in the past was simple with ES File Explorer. Not so anymore! Thanks to this thread I did eventually find it, buried in a morass of "features" that nobody will ever use.
Root explorer had been my goto file explorer app since the g1, it simple but has always worked perfect
