DISCONTINUED - [ROM][25-feb-11][v1.3] Dexter's Froyo 2.2.1 for XT720 - Milestone XT720 Android Development

so here is the new edition with uk kernel, basically pretty much the same as before with correct sensor drivers now.
Changelog v1.3 (Android v2.2.1 edition) Download nandroid image here or mirror
- xavwanted's libOMX and MediaGallery.apk which seems to fix HD recording and playback
- Riley600's interactive governor fix
- callwaiting fix
- kousik's mount-o typo fix
- Mioze7Ae move /oc to /system/oc
- bootanim by helmi666
- Email.apk replacement
Changelog v1.2b (Android v2.2.1 edition) Download patch here
- fixes problems with callwaiting functionality.
Changelog v1.2a (Android v2.2.1 edition) Download nandroid image here
- 720P recording fix
- re-added old MediaGallery as Camera app requires it.
- there can be possible hickups with mediascanning (so you know)If you do see many FC's its a symptom of not having done factory reset, so this should indicate whether you need to do it or not.
Changelog v1.2 (Android v2.2.1 edition) Download nandroid image here
- fixed mediascanner issue
- removed old mediagallery (not supported) , now only Gallery3D available.
- removed VoiceCommands app, cpu intensive and taking much storage.
Note, due to the bug in mediascanner and decoding and on top ext2sd support, quadrant benchmarks drastically drops when ext2 is enabled, if the sdcard is not a class6 or higher.. but media decoding bug alone caused incorrect reportings, so dont be surprised when you test now.
Its a full nandroid for new and existing users. if you're using 1.1+ you do not need to WIPE settings, just restore nandroid and reboot, signatures will be recalculated and bootup takes maybe little more, but it works fine.
Patch update Changelog v1.1b (Android v2.2.1 edition) Download patch here
- HDMI added to settings menu, let me know how it works (not tested)
- different proximity sensor module (tested with z-devicetester seems better)
- facebook fix still included.
- Support for loading overclock module at startup.
- apps2ext partition support , will mount at startup if a 2nd partition is found.
its not advanced, so you need ext2/ext3 partition for now.
NOTE: Patches goes into /OpenRecovery/updates and is applied in openrecovery menu "apply update".
Changelog v1.1a (Android v2.2.1 edition) Download nandroid v1.1a link
- Based on 2.2.1 milestone framework leak
- Sync facebook is working
- Lockscreen is new (Blur like)
- see this link for framework theme's.
Changelog v1.1 (Android v2.2 edition) Download v1.1 link
- fixed: OCR camera function currently FC (crash) (Mobireader.apk added)
- fixed: Contacts apk will be replaced in next update.
- fixed: HDMI through media player
- fixed: /mnt/sdcard mount issue
If you want stock korean 2.2 with just english language and working sensors, download this nandroid dump, if you will probably need the 1.1 including recovery.apk to install this the easy way.
but else follow instructions in my other releases, and put nandroid backup into the /nandroid/openrecovery folder and restore using OpenRecovery.
See this post, if you wish to restore a stock rom, or to enable apps2sd filesystem on sdcard
Install instructions:
Make sure sdcard is visible, when you get to step 6 of instructions, or it all fails, same with restore..
A: users with stock 2.1 can proceed to step 1 in instructions.
B: users with stock SBF korean 2.2 rom , need to flash stock 2.1 and goto step 1
C: Users with 1.1+ of rom with OpenRecovery , can skip WIPE and factory reset, and a restore of the new nandroid backup included in the download link, and goto step 8 (and skip step 9 for factory reset)
root it (SuperOneClick ) - included with zip
install OpenRecovery , use included apk.
reboot phone once
copy the folder "nandroid" to root directory of your sdcard.
Make sure sdcard is not attached to pc using "mass storage share" to pc.
Run OpenRecovery app and "install Recovery".
Press Boot recovery
restore the backup "stock22xxxx"
wipe / factory reset in OpenRecovery
reboot
Issues reported by users in v1.2a:
- Radio FM volume cannot change.
- MediaGallery does not do videoplayback
Issues reported by users in v1.0:
- Radio FM volume cannot change.
- Sync account option for facebook / Twitter is not added in settings when account is configured.
- Camera language not going to change (its korean app, so not support for other langs)
- LEDS do work, its sensors that makes them go off/on (no need to report this anymore)
STATEMENT:
Please don't keep asking the following question directed to me, public or via PM;
- Can you include language XXXXXXXX .
Answer: NO
- Can you teach me how to do custom roms
Answer: NO
- will you include RTL for hebrew
Answer: NO
- will you make other roms like cyanogen, htc etc..
Answer: NO
for new users unable to write in public forums, i cannot answer all your PM's personally, as that gets to be a quite a few per day and many monthly...i am not a support central for xt720 community..i simply don't have that kind of time available.

if i press camera button here (1-2 sec) it opens?
media button (the small one becide the cam button?) ? yes i see its not doing any action
from what i read now, the known accelerator driver issue + led, hdmi is 2 majors, im not sure about other issues becides the extra languages which for some seem to cause issue..
the way the launcher works is a matter of taste (seeing like 20+ android devices)
- if you're coming from stock 2.1 there is differences and more functions, but if you tweaked alot maybe less features are here, like dalvik.
- rotation is a problem if you plan alot of games with acc. functionality..
- I personally dont experience problems, except the buttons which personally i would love to fix now..
I think overall there is a positive feel about the first working release.

@Dexter, thank you for contacts.apk. But how to install it? After replace in /system/app it's says - It's not installed, and when i try to install it - it says: I can't be installed.
For more issues: how about light sensor, that detects when you speak on your phone?
On 2.1 when you speak touchscreen goes off and you cant press it errorly.
Thank you very much.

ok, i went back once more and flashed just 2.1 kernels from uk rom, and indeed all sensors work now.. but,but,but... no 3D accelerator is currently activated, so screen lags really alot..
but yes, with that kernel it still boot up fine, with a few changes.
edit: update - ITS WORKING!!! running with 2.1 uk release kernel , its working now, all sensors activated..

In the facebook app if you tap on "Facebook" at the top you go to the page to navigate to news feeds, friends, etc. If you hit your options button there there is a settings screen that includes preferences for how contacts are sync'd.

Yes i saw those settings, unfortunately they have no effect or bearing on the accounts.
I believe this is a bug, yet no one has confirmed or denied being able to reproduce it.

All sensors activated!!
I think smurfb deserve a little thanks, for pushing the request/idea just to try loading the old uk kernel once more, so i did and this time i fixed the problems with loading the old kernel and lib/bin required, its not much and most (2.2) korean state is kept intact..
ill do some testing after the new nandroid backup and start uploading v1.0

yes, 3d is fully functional now. I dont think it will work, but i will find a way to add the functionality..
the korean rom has only english, which im sure not many appreciate, although camera as one is used from that rom so only english is enabled.
but i will for sure try and get HDMI working..
I got FMRadio app added, does it help?

Thank you so much for making this, Dexter. We are hungry of froyo, asking for more. But you deserve to take a break
which languages does it have?
I will install it soon. can someone upload a video of it?

Sweet! I'm currently running Calkulins plus your V9 kernel and was getting ready to deal with the additions you just made standard! Awesome timing! Can I just clear Cache & Dalvik and then flash (& fix permissions) or would you recommend the full blown Format All then flash?
I am using a very similar combo and it is very stable it will be nice to have it all in one zip. Many thanks.
Can anyone download the file? I can't seem to.
Nevermind, finally got it.
Will Hulu still work in this build?
Yepper HULU works GREAT!!!
I don't know if this is a bug, but I installed thumb keyboard. I go into the keyboard options and try to check the thumb keyboard but it doesn't do anything. Then I try to go into input method, but it doesn't show up there ether.
I've enjoyed your kernel work in the short time I've had my G-Tab. Does this mean you're done w/ the G-Tab kernel making game since it sounds like you'll be returning your G-Tab?
Runs great, thanks.
Any way to add wpa2 enterprise support or get the normal android settings app?
CLEMSYN DON'T RETURN YOUR G TABLET!!!
haha thanks for all your work and the great kernels you made.. We will miss you here!

You have to copy the apk over to system/app folder. You'll need root explorer or something similar.
Thank you in advance for your work. I'm waiting for gTablet I just ordered yesterday from Woot. Hopefully it will show up next few weeks.
Ran this ok for half the day, then pressed power in attempt to wake from sleep and it rebooted. Now it's stuck on the honeycomb boot animation. Any ideas?

Try going to recovery mode and wipe cache, the clear Dalvik-cache (it's under Advance). Then fix permissions (Also under Advance) then reboot. Hope that helps.
Thanks....i ended up reflashing using the regular clockwork....i was using the .8 clockwork previously. That was wrong right?

I was wondering the same thing as the poster you replied to. I will get root explorer, but where would we find the thumb keyboard that I attempted to install (paid for it). Which folder? Thanks in advance.
With root explorer, go into data/apps and copy the thumb keyboard apk. Now back out and go into system/apps. Make sure you select mount R/W at the top of the screen. Now paste the apk in this folder. Reboot. Now just long press in a text box and choose thumb keyboard in the input method.

I found a easy way to do it! Using CWM install replace tnt settings zip. reboot! you should have your old settings menu now. Then change the keyboard. Go back to CWM and flash rollback tnt settings zip. Reboot! Now your done!
:I suggest you use rollback because some widgets and stuff dont work with the replacement zip:

What do these two do?

[ROM] VillainROM 1.0 for the Samsung Galaxy Ace (2.3.3/lightweight)

VillainROM 1.0 for the Samsung Galaxy Ace
As I have mentioned previously, this isn’t the magical custom ROM you have all been waiting for, YET. It’s a base that I have created in order for me to work on over the next few days/weeks/months. As I have said a few times now, don’t expect it to be HUGELY different to stock KPE at this stage.
- Based on Samsung’s XXPE Gingerbread build
- Pre-rooted with Superuser installed
- De-odexed (improving free space on /system)
- All APKs PNG optimized and zip-aligned
- A few minor tweaks which should improve free memory – please let me know
- Full battery alert removed (no more 3am wake ups!)
- Added GenieWidget (News and Weather)
- Added Gallery3D
- Added Stock Gingerbread Launcher and REMOVED TouchWizLauncher.apk
- Menu key will now unlock the phone on the lock screen
- SOME bloatware removed
- Huge APN list
- Annoying boot sound removed
- Light weight – stripped down the build a bit without losing functionality
See.. as I said, it’s lightweight and just a base at this stage. My work will continue over the next couple of weeks, so expect to see (COMING SOON):
- Custom OC/UV kernel
- ClockWorkMod Recovery
- Add advanced power menu options (Reboot, Recovery, Download and Wipe Data (+ confirmation)
- 2.3.4 additions
Please use this thread for any requests you may have regarding this ROM in the following thread. Please don’t spam it, this is purely for requests only. I will look into each request and let you know if/when it will be implemented.
Instructions:
RECOMMENDED BEFORE YOU BEGIN:
Perform a full wipe of data/cache. Dial *#*#7780#*#* from your current ROM, and this will wipe data and perform a factory reset.
1. Download the zip file from the bottom of this thread and extract it
2. Boot your phone into download mode, and connect it to the PC
3. Open ODIN – you should see a COM port in yellow.
4. Click Ops and select Cooper
5. Click Boot and select APB_Bootxxxx.tar (not necessary if coming from KPE)
6. Click Phone and select Modem_xxxxx.tar (not necessary if coming from KPE)
7. Click PDA and select AceVR.tar.md5
IGNORE THE 2 POP-UP ERROR MESSAGES ABOUT INVALID BINARY – THIS IS NORMAL.
8. Once complete, the phone will reboot.
Now, please post any opinions, comments or feedback in this thread, and any requests here.

1. You're welcome
2. No I didn't but if you could link the post for me I will happily include it as an option
3. Wifi driver stops responding with certain SD cards - it doesn't seem to affect me with most of my SD cards, but I don't use this phone as a daily - I work full time in Android and have access to most android phones. I just felt sorry for you guys having no ROM and support whatsoever.
There's also quite a lot of you that own the phone, so it's crazy that not many have picked it up yet from a development perspective.
Anyway, I'll try to get you to a level that you're happy with (custom kernels, CWM, and a rom or two), then I'll move along.
Hopefully, by then, many of you guys will start experimenting with ROMs yourself. It becomes a lot easier when you've got a custom recovery image in place!
The link to Darktremor's apps2sd is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715116.
I definitely want to start trying to play about with custom ROMs but I'm totally new to Android. So far I've managed to unpack and repack the boot.img in order to modify init.rc but I haven't built anything as such. I'd love to get involved in trying to port CWM to the SGA but I don't know where to start. Happy to help though if I can.

It was agreed on the discussion in the Ace thread that gingerbread launcher would be opted over TW4, nathan prefered GB launcher and even it was seconded by many users.
personally i feel any would do, i just need a light weight rom

[ROM][2.3.6] U8860 Modified Port

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damage (including, but not limited to, loss of data, non-functional device etc.) which may occur to your device from following the directions (or from any failure to follow the directions) found on this post. Use (and flash) at your own risk.
Credits go to genokolar for actually porting the U8860 2.3.6 firmware to the U8800Pro. This builds upon his port.
You may find his port announcement here, and you can download it from here. Thanks to user Skyline111 for the mirror.
Thanks also go to birdyi, who ported the U8860 2.3.6 firmware to the U8860. His port contained some brilliant things such as CarrierIQ framework removal.
--
This is a 2.3.6 ROM for the U8800Pro based on the U8860 B866 ROM. 2.3.6, naturally, brings a slightly newer version of Gingerbread compared to our 2.3.5 with B540. While I know it's all about CM9 (ICS), MIUI and so on these days, I'm a fan of stock (in the Huawei sense of the term) Gingerbread.
Features (or limitations depending on what you think of some of the following entries) of this ROM:
Rooted (adb also runs as root, too)
(Huawei) DLNA
(Huawei) A task manager that shows open applications with pictures (launching it when pressing Home has disabled in this modification because I found the Recent menu saves more time)
(Huawei) Security Guard, a way of hiding text messages, I think
(Huawei) Traffic Manager – a data counter
(Huawei) Wi-Fi WPS support
(Genokolar) FPS unlocked by default (configurable in enhanced.conf)
(Genokolar) ZRAM (Compcache) enabled
(Genokolar) Changed the autorun.iso path to the image partition so that formatting /data from CWM does not leave you with an empty CD-ROM drive when you plug the phone into a computer
bugreports service turned off entirely so that pressing the volume up button quickly after you've pressed volume down does not leave you with a few seconds' delay and a bugreports folder on your memory card
BusyBox from CM7
Android’s toolbox (poor coreutils replacement; more barebones than BusyBox) has its full set of links installed in /system/bin, so you use Android’s native chmod etc. tools. Why? To match the stock B512 firmware and to ensure developers testing on the U8800Pro correctly hardcode “busybox” in their root programs if needed
Optional lazy CPUfreq governor
Default language and region changed from Chinese – China to English – United Kingdom
Added in boombuler’s AppWidgetPicker
CM7’s Pacman added in to remind you to install Google Apps after adding an account with the Setup Wizard (make sure GApps is installed!)
VoiceDialler.apk added in from B512 firmware (although, to be honest, the microphone quality on my phone is awful…)
Bash shell, fix_permissions script, iwmulticall, MMS.apk, tcpdump and gdbserver and additional ringtones etc. from CyanogenMod (20120107-cm-7.1.0-u8800pro-Geno-en.zip) added in
Phone model changed to Desire HD, so Gameloft games can be bought. This may cause licensing problems with bought Market applications so be careful. (Although, I must admit that giving money to a company that doesn't support our phone seems counter-intuitive.)
Shutdown vibration reduced from 500ms to 100ms because I hate it (especially at night) but understand its usefulness in determining the answer to the question “Has the phone gone off yet?”
Huawei’s god-awful Low Battery notification replaced with a nicer one from CyanogenMod
Widgets actually restore themselves after a reboot! This was fixed by me replacing 2.3.6's PackageManager service with Huawei's 2.3.5 one.
MyCalendar widget from birdyi's port and MyEmail from B512 added in
Fixed proximity sensor dying if the light sensor was on, too.
Stripped down enhanced.conf - only swappiness, VSync and ZRAM settings available. I don't like /system/log.txt being created every time my phone boots and I think using a tool in Android like, say, No-frills CPU Control is the better place to set the frequency. SetXperia has support for setting the phone's CPU voltage.
More languages selectable from the Setup Wizard than just English (US) and Chinese.
Flash Player removed for copyright reasons. You can install it from the Market
Notepad and Richpad removed
Droid Sans Fallback supports more character ranges
Toolbox correctly has "Wi-Fi" instead of "WLAN"
Misc. kernel modules, like in B512, included
But I like the BusyBox tools and want to use them without having to prefix BusyBox everytime!
Just run the bash shell; BusyBox versions of cat, chmod, chown, df, insmod, ln, lsmod, mkdir, mount, mv, rm, rmdir, rmmod, umount, sleep, kill, and ifconfig will become the default while you’re using the bash shell (also nicer, BTW: you get tab-completion, for one) thanks to the CyanogenMod team.
Attempts to remove Carrier IQ. Huawei *do* include Carrier IQ in their firmware.
I’ve done the following to attempt to remove it the best I can:
Edited boot.img to not start Carrier IQ services
Removed Carrier IQ libraries from /system/lib and CiQ binaries from /system/bin
Added lines to build.prop to disable CarrierIQ, taken from the framework.jar file itself.
birdyi has also modified framework.jar to stop the CarrierIQ objects from being instantiated.
Ideally the best way to be Huawei-free is to use CyanogenMod.
I've removed the Cloud+ apps because of this. I've left some Huawei apps in, but I strongly recommend you install PDroid (the patcher works fine with this ROM) and block the more concerning permissions of Huawei system apps.
Kernel changes
Since the kernel genokolar provided with his port had a problem when a program used the light and proximity sensor at the same time – the proximity sensor would die out until the next restart – I took it upon myself to rebuild the kernel available from his github repository with the config from his latest kernel. After comparing his kernel to the source Huawei put out, I could see no code changes that would cause the proximity sensor to die out. Since I was rebuilding the kernel, I thought I’d make a few changes:
Add in the Lazy CPU governor by Ezekeel
Update a patch by stockwell to disable keypad lights (echo 1 > /sys/module/leds_msm_pmic/parameters/disable_button_leds) - use ButtonLock to control
Reverse genokolar’s decision to always allow NV logging – this can be turned on and off from the service menu on a stock ROM anyway…
Set minimum backlight level to 15, from Franco’s kernel. Warning: I haven’t tried setting it to 15 so I don’t know if that value renders the display practically useless, and I don’t know if Android lets you set it to 15 from its settings!
ButtonLock
Not as revolutionary as I'd like it to be, but useful nevertheless. I've written a quick widget, which looks like the Power Saving one, that turns off the button backlight. Useful for when you're reading books through FBReader.
You need to be using my kernel as it has the disable_button_leds patch. The advantage the disable_button_leds patch has over the chmod 444 method is that it doesn't introduce noticable lag. The widget's source is in the same folder.
When pressing the widget's button for the first time, there is a delay as the Superuser allow/deny dialog box takes its time to come up. After accepting, future launches are instantaneous.
If you need something that this ROM doesn’t provide compared to other stock ROMs, I recommend:
Not using it; or
Using a combination of diff, abootimg, Winmerge (or Beyond Compare) and apktool to compare this with genokolar’s original release, and with birdyi's ROM, and add what you want back in
Installation
Note: You must be running firmware version B522 on your device! If you have B540, you need to downgrade. If you have a firmware version lower than B522 (Froyo?), you must upgrade to B522 first. If you're already running a custom ROM, ignore this.
Take out the SIM card if you want the setup wizard to use Wi-Fi during setup.
Install genokolar’s recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1343276
Place u8800pro-2.3.6-geno-v1-modified.zip on the internal memory card or an external one (I recommend the internal one to ensure you don’t run into U8800Pro CWM bugs with the external).
Get gapps for Gingerbread and place on your memory card. Find the link using every Android user’s favourite search engine.
I highly recommend using PDroid, but it’s up to you whether you want to use it. If you would like to use it, get the patcher from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357056 and point it to u8800pro-2.3.6-geno-v1-modified.zip. Place the PDroid-v1.27-u8800pro-2.3.6-geno-v1-modified.zip file onto your memory card.
Boot into recovery (make sure that fast boot is turned off in Settings->Applications and hold power and volume up while turning the phone on)
Do a data/factory reset.
Install the ZIPs, starting with u8800pro-2.3.6-geno-v1-modified.zip (obviously).
Reboot!
Install the Google apps (those ones not included in CM's gapps ZIP like YouTube) if desired when prompted – but note that the Market will probably close as you’re doing this as it will automatically update itself.

Interesting. I've had no problems reconnecting to a network that uses WPA2-PSK and another that uses 802.11x authentication.

Are your APNs set correctly? In my case 2G works and I've had HSDPA working because when testing the Weather Clock widget (from B522, when I had it in) it would connect using it - I could see the icon in the status bar - and I had the pleasure of having my balance run down each time - I'm not a rich man
Edit: In build.prop, you can try playing with ro.config.hw_fast_dormancy=3 - genokolar had it set to 2, but I changed it back to 3 from the U8800Pro original ROM because I wouldn't be able to connect to my network otherwise.
Hopefully, it's not the case but it could be hardware differences. genokolar, who's work this is based on, being from China, probably has a Unicom U8800Pro, just like I do...
@Zaic
B512? This is for the U8800Pro. I'd advise you not to flash it. I'd recommend using birdyi's ROM. If you're after a certain improvement from this ROM, tell me and I'll try and isolate it for you (as long as it doesn't involve kernel stuff - I don't know how to build U8800 kernels) so that you can use with birdyi's ROM
I have u8800 pro - 100%
My ROM is original unrooted 2.3.5 B512 its one before the latest release which is B540
My ROM still has access to pink screen, otherwise its the same as B540 I guess
SO what should I do first to install this ROM? roll back to 2.2.2 or was it 2.2.3?
Ah, if you're running 2.3.5 already and in the pink screen mode you see a folder called image when connecting your phone to the computer you're ready to go
Hi!
My compliments for the porting of Android 2.3.6 to U8800Pro!
I am using your rom since yesterday and still now I am not having any kind of problems.
Anyway I notice the same bug of the B512 and B540 roms: put your smartphone on screenoff, then wait about 1 minute and fastly unlock the screen and try to pinch to zoom on the home. Sometimes the multitouch doesn't work on every position of your fingers, it only works correctly if your fingers are in the position of principal axes.
Please try to reproduce this bug.
I am using LauncherPro but this bug is indipendent by the launcher (for example I tried also Zeam Launcher, Go Launcher EX, etc etc).
I hope you can solve this bug, maybe kernel-related.
Regards,
kalo86

Sorry for asking, but how do you pinch to zoom on the home screen? I'm using Go Launcher Ex and I know that that has the swipe up gesture but I can activate that with one finger, anyway.
In any case, have you applied the Synaptics touchscreen update? For me it has increased the touchscreen performance greatly. I had one problem that when after unlocking, the touchscreen wouldn't respond unless I turned the screen off and tried again. The update solved that.
If you want to try it, open the service menu (*#*#2846579#*#*), go to ProjectMenu->Upgrade->Touch screen version query and see if it says "synaptics". If so, put the original Huawei recovery.img back on and put the synaptics.img file in a folder called update on your SD card. Use the recovery's "touchscreen firmware update" update option and it will automatically reboot when it's done.
Best regards,
qwerty12
Oh, really thank you for this "news" about the synaptics touchscreen update!
I have a synaptics too, then I am going to update the firmware.
Another bug, still present in B512, B540, Cyanogen and U8860 port: unplug your battery from the smartphone, insert it again, power on, then open your file manager and try to read the sdcard content. At 99% my sdcard is not read, then I have to reboot my U8800Pro and magically the sdcard is read.
Thanks to You and Genokolar for our development!
Regards,
kalo86
UPDATE: I updated the synaptics touchpanel but I have always the bug of multitouch. It is reproducible when you unlock the screen after a pause of 1 minute (about), then you open the stock browser and try to zoom with the multitouch. It works only if your fingers are on the principal axes and not in other positions. I have this bug on 4 different U8800 Pro! It cannot be a singular problem.
So, I have tried a lot of roms, based on B512, B540, U8860, CyanogenMod 7.1, I am sure I will try this bug on the next release because it's mabe a kernel bug due to the multitouch field.
Video demonstration
This is a video which I just uploaded on YouTube with the real multitouch bug.
This bug is in 4 different U8800 Pro.

Did you repair graphic issues (in some games and apps) and slow working on some launchers etc.?
this is gorgeous!
Testing with updated kernel. Any report in this same post, later today or in the next days. First impression: wow! Second impression: (wow!)^3.
To be continued...
UPDATE 1: Ok, here some notes after some tries...
Strange visualization of some apps (e.g. Jrummy's Root Browser Lite) with wrong space and scale between graphic elements. Text in Google Play is near white, almost unreadable, also in Viber's popup windows. Some chinese symbols in calendar. Email's input fields dirtied by strange blue lines. Compass ovalized.
Deleted useless (for now) scripts:
00banner, 01mountsd, 02miuithemeprop, 04 first boot, 05 lagfixer, 07 writeback, 09scardspeedfix, 97swap2sd, net_buffer, remount_fullext4, s99drop_cache.
Also, maybe I'm wrong but it seems to me that swap file function isn't supported by kernel, apparently you cannot have a swap file.
Modified also build.prop but only to meet my needs of mantain scripts as clean as possible!
UPDATE 2: deleted /system/default.prop, the values here aren't well suited for this rom causing instability or reboots. It will be automatically replaced by the default file residing in the ram disk.
UPDATE 3: replacing kernel with that taken from latest LeWa rom (only for test purposes, some devices e.g. bluetooth will not works!) you can activate the swap file. Sorry I cannot try further this rom, I hope that the next version will be better.
This rom is enjoyable although not perfect, needs some work but the path is right! My bests!
Additionally: auto-retrieve MMS doesn't work.

DoPa v2.7 is a ROM for Sero 7 Pro owners everywhere. Whether bought in the US, Britain, Australia, Germany, or elsewhere, your tablet is supported.
The ROM starts with well-tested AOSP code and adds core functions where needed but skips the frills that are easy to add on - and remove when they cause problems. It's aimed at people who want to choose their own features and not have them imposed by the developer.
New / Improved
International Support - a single ROM for all Sero 7 Pros sold worldwide
New in v2.7 - support for the German model of the Sero 7 Pro (m470bsg)
Speed Control - a unified kernel provides speed when you need it and stock performance when you don't.
Use the new Performance page in the Settings app to control it
exFAT - support has been moved into the kernel for improved performance
Boot Animation - a handsome new DoPa animation thanks to @mikembley, our first-ever UK user
To get you started customizing your ROM, v2.7 offers these add-ons:
built-in: SuperSU, Xposed Installer GravityBox, Phab7
optional: have your tablet claim it's a Nexus7 to get more apps in PlayStore
The package does not include any Google apps (e.g. Playstore). See this thread for links to the latest GApps packages.
Installation
UK / AU / DE / First-time Users
If you're upgrading from a stock ROM (any variety), please click the "show content" button and read the instructions very carefully - they're long but your tablet's continued good health may depend on it!
STEP 1: Install Philz Touch Recovery
Users outside the US must use this version of Philz to install the ROM - neither the stock recovery nor other versions of CWM or Philz will work. Users in the US should use it just to avoid problems.
Stock Recovery
If you still have the stock recovery program you'll have to use the 'fastboot' program to install Philz. On Windows, this requires installation of the 'ADB' USB drivers while in fastboot mode (see below). A package containing the drivers, fastboot, adb and other files can be found in the 2nd posting on the DoPa Stock ROM thread. Note: there are several batch files (*.bat) in the package - do NOT run them.
put fastboot.exe in a convenient directory, then unzip sero7pro-philz6.58.0-dopa-v2.7.zip and put the file philz.img in the same directory (you won't need the other files)
unplug any USB cable, then press and hold Power+VolumeUp; the word "fastboot" should appear on the screen (nothing further will appear)
plug the USB cable from your PC into the tablet, then install the driver (open Device Manager, right click on "Other Devices->Fastboot", then select "Update Driver Software")
after installing the driver, open a command prompt ("DOS window") and change to the directory containing the files
enter fastboot flash recovery philz.img
when done, force the tablet off, remove the USB cable, then reboot into recovery: Power+VolumeDown - you should see the word "recovery", then the Philz menu
CWM
If you have CWM installed, copy sero7pro-philz6.58.0-dopa-v2.7.zip to an SD card, insert it in the tablet, then:
remove any USB cable, then boot into recovery: Power+VolumeDown
select "Install Zip", then "Choose zip from /storage/sdcard1"
select the file, then OK the selection
when done, back out to the main menu, select "Advanced options", then "Reboot recovery"
after the initial "recovery" screen, you should see the Philz menu
Regardless of how you install Philz, the result should be the same. If it boots OK, compatibility is assured
STEP 2: Backup
I can't emphasize this enough: you must make a backup of your existing ROM. If something goes wrong, there's no way to get your device working again other than to restore it using the backup you've made. There's also another reason to do a backup: before installing the new ROM, you will have to reformat your /data partition. This will wipe out your apps, your settings, and most importantly, all the music/photos/etc stored on your "internal SDcard". These last items can be restored if you follow the instructions below:
ROM
You must do your backup onto a real SD card that you can remove because your "internal SDcard" will be erased in the next step. In fact, it wouldn't be a bad idea to do two backups (preferably to different cards) just in case one is faulty.
on Philz main menu, select "Backup and Restore"
next, select "Backup to /storage/sdcard1" (the 6th item on that menu)
if there's enough space on the card, the backup will start without any further prompt; it could take anywhere from 3 to 15+ minutes depending on the amount of data and the speed of your card
if needed, you can enable compression to create a smaller backup: select "Misc Nandroid Settings -> Default Backup Format -> tar + gzip", then on the previous menu, tap on "Compression" to set the appropriate level
Internal SD card
This is optional but worthwhile if you have files you value stored on the tablet:
on Philz main menu, select "Backup and Restore"
next, select "Custom Backup to /storage/sdcard1" (the 9th item on that menu)
on the next screen, deselect everything, then select "Backup /data/media" (the next-to-last item)
finally, select "Start Custom Backup Job"
STEP 3: Install the DoPa ROM
Before you begin, you may want to download a Google Apps ("Gapps") package that you can install after the ROM. See this thread for a selection of packages. To avoid complications, I'd suggest choosing the "Nano Modular Package" to get just the basics - you can always upgrade later. Put your Gapps package along with the ROM zip on an SD card and insert it into the tablet - you can use the same card you're using for your backups.
on Philz main menu, select "Wipe and Format Options", then "Custom Format Options"
select "format /data and /data/media (/sdcard)" (the 8th item), then OK your choice
back on the main menu, select "Install Zip -> Choose zip from /storage/sdcard1"
select sero7pro-aosp444-dopa-v2.7.zip, then OK your choice - the install process should take about 40 seconds
next, install your Gapps package
return to the main menu, select "Reboot System Now", then hold your breath for the next 3-4 minutes
the Hisense screen should be up for less than a minute, followed by the DoPa boot animation for another 2-3 minutes
when the Google setup screen appears, you'll probably get a warning that "Bluetooth Sharing" has stopped - after you clear it, you'll never see it again
If the boot animation is still running after 5+ minutes, force the tablet off, then reboot. If that doesn't fix it, try formatting /data again. If it still doesn't work, restore your tablet from your backup ("Backup and Restore -> Restore from /storage/sdcard1"), then post a message here. If everything works out as hoped for, re-read the first posting in this thread for details on some of the features (and problems) of this ROM.
Upgrades
While any SELinux-enabled version of CWM or TWRP can be used to install the ROM, the companion Philz Touch CWM-based recovery is highly recommended if you use exFAT-formatted SD cards.
from DoPa AOSP Kitkat ROMs (v1.0-v2.6) - no need to wipe or format anything!
from pre-Kitkat (v4.4.x) or any CM-based ROMs - wipe your /data partition before installing to avoid unnecessary problems.
install sero7pro-aosp444-dopa-v2.7.zip
- the installer will wipe (but NOT format) /cache and dalvik-cache for you
install your preferred Gapps package
- upgraders: this is required to prevent your downloaded Google apps from crashing
optionally, install the Nexus7 spoof (sero7pro-nexus7spoof-dopa-v2.7.zip)
reboot (ignore any "fix root" prompt - it's incorrect)
f2fs / ext4 Migration
This DoPa ROM gives you the flexibility to format any of your built-in partitions using either the f2fs or ext4 file systems.
As part of your install - or at any time - you can switch formats without losing any data. Click "show content" for instructions.
If you haven't already installed Philz Touch Recovery, please do so first. Philz has gotten complicated, so read this carefully!
make a nandroid backup to your external SD card
select Wipe and Format Options, then Custom Format Options
select toggle f2fs <-> ext4 migration
- be sure there's a confirmation message at the bottom of the screen
select each partition you want to convert or wipe, then select the format and OK your choice
Important: to convert your /data partition, you must select format /data and /data/media (/sdcard)!!!
use Custom Restore from /storage/sdcard1 to restore the contents of the partitions you reformatted
Notes
Speed Control - this version uses a redesigned kernel that caps processor speeds at stock levels during start-up, then adjusts them once the tablet is up and running. Go to Settings->Performance to enable this feature, and to set the top speeds for the CPU (1.0-1.5ghz) and GPU (448-520mhz). When disabled, the processor will remain at stock speeds (1.2ghz/448mhz) unless changed by a 3rd-party app.
Encryption - the first time you formatted your /data partition, you lost the ability to encrypt your tablet's data. Using the companion Philz Touch Recovery to reformat /data (using either filesystem) will restore that ability. To preserve your existing data, do a backup first, then restore just /data when done. Note: you must select "format /data and /data/media (/sdcard)" when reformatting.
OTG Charging Support - this kernel supports charging the tablet while an external device (flash drive, keyboard, etc.) is attached to the USB port. This feature requires either an OTG 'Y' cable or an OTG USB hub, and the AC adapter that came with the tablet. For this to work, power must be connected to the cable or hub before plugging it into your tablet. The OTG device(s) can be attached/detached at any time.
WiFi Display (a.k.a. Miracast) - video works but its performance may depend upon your TV; audio does not work.
Bluetooth Sharing - on the initial boot, this service will FC due to a timing issue. The system will restart it and you should never see this error again.
Added/Changed in v2.6
International Support - added support to the kernel for the British and Australian models of the Sero 7 Pro
Overclocking - replaced separate standard and overclocked kernels with a unified kernel that uses less power when overclocked; added a new Performance page to the Settings app to control it
exFAT Support - moved exFAT support to the kernel for improved performance
Boot Animation - added a custom boot animation created by @mikembley
Added/Changed in v2.51
Flexible Formatting - added F2FS support for the /thirdparty and /mnt/modem partitions
Bug Fix - enabled Philz Touch Recovery to format the /thirdparty and /mnt/modem partitions using EXT4
Added/Changed in v2.5
Flexible Formatting - enabled use of either F2FS or EXT4 for any of the built-in partitions
External Storage - added support for F2FS, and for devices formatted without a partition table (i.e. Windows-style "super-floppies")
Android version - upgraded from AOSP 4.4.4_r2 to AOSP 4.4.4_r2.0.1
Recovery - added a DoPa version of Philz Touch Recovery
Added/Changed in v2.1
SD Cards - added support for SD cards formatted with the NTFS or exFAT filesystems
Android version - upgraded from AOSP 4.4.4_r1 to AOSP 4.4.4_r2
Added/Changed in v2.0
Google Now - voice activation (i.e "OK Google") now works in the Google Now launcher
kernel - added OTG charging support.

Can We call these the Semi OFFICIAL ROM ?
I installed v1 after it booted up play store wasn't installed. Did any one else experience this? I did a dirty flash and a full wipe.

How much free space should there be on a system after a fresh install?

I followed the instructions and noticed the same thing and gmail kept crashing. Flashing the latest gapps will fix all of that. I still have some testing to do and will report back later.

GPS and Google music
I noticed on version 0 that GPS could take awhile to lock on, and if you turned it off and back on that sometimes it wouldn't lock on at all. I also noticed an issue when running Google music where it would freeze and cause the tablet to reboot. Anyone having these issues on the new build? Otherwise, this is one of the cleanest KitKat builds I've used

Don't use Google music but I do use scanner radio and whenever I switched streams the tablet would freeze and I would have to hold the power button to turn the tablet off.
Now its working like it should. So this latest build might fix Google music.
Another issue I was having is when I opened the calendar it would not close hitting the back button. Its closes fine now.
The GPS doesn't seem to load any slower for me than it did with the stock ROM but I don't use it much.
Anyway I would recommend trying this latest build. Just make sure you wipe cache and dalvik cache and flash the latest gapps. Everything should still be the same as before when you boot with the new ROM and hopefully you will notice some improvements.

Just want to thank you for fixing the sound bug. V4A is working perfectly and as far as I can tell so is everything else. I will keep testing and if I run across anything strange I will post here. Your work on this is very much appreciated

This is a plain-vanilla build of KitKat for those who prefer their enhancements added on rather than built in. The only changes to the AOSP and kernel code are those needed to ensure compatibility or to enable standard features Hisense omitted (e.g. USB-OTG support). Because it relies on well-tested AOSP code, it is likely the most stable KitKat ROM available for this tablet. For the same reasons, it is almost certainly not the fastest KitKat ROM either.
To make it more functional, the package includes a handful of apps most people find useful: SuperSU, ES File Explorer, Xposed Installer, GravityBox, and my Phab7 UI switcher. To avoid the wrath of Google, it does not include any GApps; see this thread for links to the latest packages.
Installation
Having an SELinux-enabled version of CWM or TWRP installed is a prerequisite. You can find versions built by randomblame here or by davepmer here.
If you're upgrading from v0 of this ROM, clearing cache and dalvik-cache should suffice. Otherwise, do a full wipe of both your data and cache partitions. As always, a backup of your existing setup is recommended.
Notes
All features should be present and work as expected with these exceptions:
WiFi Display (a.k.a. Miracast) - video is enabled but very slow; audio is disabled because it doesn't work and generates 45 error messages per second when enabled
SELinux - the kernel runs in permissive mode due to missing entries in its configuration.
As these issues are resolved, the ROM will be updated accordingly.

Thanks for the rom. After flashing the rom I rebooted, powered down and installed gapps. On reboot I got a message about root access possibly being lost and offering to fix it, I said yes. First time I get that, is it ok? (It seems to be working ok)

As noted in the OP, none of the GApps (e.g. Playstore) were included in this ROM. I have updated its verbiage to be even more explicit. As to GMail crashing, I'm a little puzzled how that could happen if it wasn't included - did you mean the generic Email app?

I hope not: v1 wouldn't have been released if that bug were still present. The problems you encountered were caused by enabling sound effects, either built-in or 3rd-party - the notes for v0 said as much. Perhaps Google Music enabled them automatically.

I ran into that too - and something even odder. SuperSU's su and daemonsu program files should have a flag that marks them as authorized to give root access. That flag is now missing but I can still get root whenever needed. I don't know if this is to be expected with SELinux in place or just something specific to SuperSU. I'll investigate...

After installing the ROM, the "Gapps Standard" package, and Antutu, Settings->Storage says I have 5.48gb available. This is the free space on your /data partition and includes the space used by your emulated SD Card (which is actually just a subdirectory of /data).
"Smart ass alert"
Not only was playstore not installed, it doesn't give me the winning lottery numbers for next week! What gives?
Ok, being serious, Thank you for your time and effort. This weekend I am going to finally give this a try.
Dolorespark,
I haven't messed with any sound effect settings, so it must be Google Music messing with things. Have you noticed any issues with GPS? I can run any of the other rom's, including CM11, and it locks on immediately, but it seems random with AOSP. Sometimes I'll wait a coupled of minutes and it'll get a lock, and other times it won't lock on at all. Anyway, thanks for all you do. I'll keep testing, and keep my trusty backup of DOPA v2.
Working brilliantly so far. V0 to V1 smooth after adding gapps back to the mix. Sounds like time to reinstall V4A and sync some commute podcasts!
Thanks Dolorespark!

I had this issue on v0 as well and it seems that it's not gone yet. I only wiped dalvik & cache coming from v0 so I'm not sure if that's part of the problem, but I'm still experiencing the Google Play Music crash. It only seems to crash when playing content that hasn't already been cached locally. Attached is a logcat.

No it was gmail. It would close followed by the message "unfortunately this application has closed" or something like that. It wasn't really crashing but rather would not stay open. Anyway flashing the latest gapps fixed that and all is good for me so far.
I played with the tablet extensively last night and did not experience any problems. Even movies, streaming or local using XBMC play using a bluetooth headset. There is no stuttering as there was in all of the previous Jelly Bean roms, stock....DoPa1 and DoPa2. I don't know if that was a KitKat fix or what but I am very happy with the stability of this rom and the fact the XBMC bluetooth bug was fixed is icing on the cake. Of course V4A makes it even better.
I will continue to run the rom and will post if I find any bugs. Thanks again.:good:
Been running since v1 was posted. Have to say the music bug is no more! Listening to lucky mixes all day today and email, g+, and everything my wife and kids have done on it. No problems! Thanks You have really taken your time to make this rom perfect!!!!

Did you use the latest GApps package? As Gazoo119 noted, that fixed a problem with another app that uses Google Play Services. If the problem persists, you may want to go to Apps->Google Play Services, then tap the "Manage space" button. On the next screen it lets you clear all data.

I hadn't tried GPS at all until you mentioned it. I installed Google Maps but couldn't get a lock at all. It's raining here, so I couldn't get fully in the clear. Instead I sat in my car and it still did nothing. Finally, I forced-stopped the app, cleared data and cache, then retried. This time it only took a few seconds to find me. I then turned off GPS, rebooted, and moved to my semi-covered patio. After getting everything going again, it took 10-15 seconds to get a rough fix (off about 70 feet) and it continued to hold it even after I went inside. You may want to try clearing Maps' data (if that's what you're using) to see if that helps.

Whatever crash you're seeing isn't the one that I fixed. That one was produced a full-blown hardware crash with a register dump. Your logcat doesn't show a register dump or even a Java runtime exception dump. There were two errors that caught my eye but I don't know if either would cause an "Unfortunately..." popup.
Code:
04-08 09:40:24.213 E/DownloadTaskImpl( 3156): Download failed because of IO Error: Socket closed

Here, the (software) communication link being used to download "Le onde" was broken. Later on, you got this error:
Code:
04-08 09:40:57.133 I/wpa_supplicant( 618): wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=00:1a:30:e4:64:00 reason=0

This download failure is a lot easier to understand: your WiFi connection had dropped. I don't know that either of these is something I can fix. As above, you may want to try the obvious fixes if you haven't done so already: use the most recent GApps package, clear the app's cache and data, and play with the app's caching options.
