Just search the Q&A forum. You'll find loads of threads talk about pushing apk to system/app folder.
In quick, you need to do it from recovery( or from RootExplorer when you s-off'd)

A500 w/ minimalist 3.2 cannot copy files to read only folders

I'm fairly new to android, and rooting and custom roms and all that i have an a500 with the minimalistic 3.2 rom, and but this has happened with any other custom roms or stock firmwares aswell (all rooted)..
Anyway, ill use this as an example, one time, and I was trying to install the samsung Ebook.apk and it required a separate sytem app, and everyone said move this other app (my files. Apk.) to system / apps and change permissions, I've tried with several file managers and it always says that it is read only,
This happens when trying to move files to other system folders... Isn't rooting supposed to give me access to these and let me edit files or put files there ect
I'm probably just stupid, but but any help would be appreciated

Can you just push the files with ADB and edit the permissions?
I could not get ES File Explorer to gain root permissions with the Minimalist Rom, but the ADB method worked for me (installing Polaris Office).
I've heard a lot about adb but have never used it.. Ill look it up and see if I can set it up... thanks
use root explorer. Great file manager and gives youba button to mount the filesystem r/w

You need to remount the relevant folders as read/write. Most file explorers can do it. Most people swear by Root Explorer, but that's pay software. I use ES File Manager, which is free.
Thanks a lot but but how do i change permissions with root explorer? I (i am supposed i change them to 644)

[Q] Help installing Android Market

I have followed the instructions from pcworld.com(unable to post link due to noob status) which happen to appear on several other sites.
I'm having issues copying the vending.apk file to /system/app with File Expert. I think it's a write-permissions issue but I don't know enough to get around that. File Expert says that it's mounting this directory successfully but it's just acting like the file is being copied when it's actually not. Please help...
Use the method posted here then if you are still having problems come back and ask questions.

Thank you for your reply. The method I used is very similar to that one. I have been trying to paste the vending.apk into the /system/app folder as this tutorial instructed and it has also failed. I tried mounting with File Exper and with ES file explorer. Is there another app I should try to use to accomplish this? Doesn't seem like there's anything better in the amazon app store. Maybe I have to manually install an .apk of sorts?

Other users have reported lack of root privelages with file explorers from the Amazon App Store. At one point Root Explorer and File Explorer were removed, and File Explorer was the only one that's returned (now with limited funciontality). I'm guessing Root Explorer no longer shows up for this reason.
Either sideload the Android Market version of a file explorer from your phone, or download the .apk I posted here. I pulled it from my phone and it should have full root privelages. It worked when I was setting up my KF. This version was pulled prior to the most recent update, so it's a little outdated.
So basically what I've followed thus far was a combination of both instructions. I'm going to assume that since SuperOneClick said everything was rooted - that it is. So in terms of installing the android market, here's a tl;dr of what i've done and where i'm at:
- adb push googleframeworkservices.apk
- adb push vending.apk to the appropriate directory and assign its permissions.
- Used File Expert to install MarketOpener.apk(places an icon in carousel so you don't have to use alternate launchers)
- rebooted KF
The market opens up fine now but whenever I go to download something it either says "authorizing purchase" or "downloading" and never progresses beyond that. Please, PLEASE let me know if i'm omitting any piece of information that may help you guys assist me. Thanks for all your good work fellas, I appreciate it.
maybe you have a bad vending.apk - there are some bad versions around.
post you mine and try again with the adb method i suggested.
posted framework just to be shure.
did you install the vending.apk ? look at point 7 of the guide i linked in carefully !
good luck !

[Q] How to delete this useless file???

Hey guys I need your help... Ive searched and searched and used youtube etc and I still cant figure this out. Okay I downloaded a torrent file and now it is in my internal partition and it is nothing but an empty file, 0 bytes. Now, I try and delete it and it does delete, until I press refresh and then it comes back into my downloads folder. HOW DO I GET RID OF THIS?? Ive triesd and tried, Ive tried to delete it while its on the pc, Ive completely wiped my device and re flashed the Foxhound ROM, and after all my apps and data boot up, I go into my file folder and there it is... still there. When I try and delete it on the PC it says it is write-protected and I dont know how to turn the permissions off it.
I am using ES File Explorer and have Root Explorer but dont really know how to use it to do anything. I know I have to change the write permissions cuz it wont even let me rename it. So can someone please walk me through this, I know it isnt a big deal being there as it is an empty file, but if theres nothing there I dont wanna see it. and its annoying lol. Thank you in advance.
Jeff
It might help to share the directory/FileName etc, also its a guess but if you used an android torrent app to download the file... You might need to remove the torrent from the from the app... It might be re-downloading.

Usually, there are advanced options in the file explorers to gain root in them.
Anyway, you shouldn't have any issues deleting your own files. Maybe you are trying to delete files which are on a read only mount (you need to switch to R/W).
