So far, you get an error when trying to sign in. Here is the link to the market:
http://market.android.com/

cant sign in with my account says "Invalid Request" interesting idea! tho

Man, i just got done watching the live stream of the conference and he said it was already live and he encouraged everyone to go check it out, but yes I am getting an invalid request
In app purchases are coming soon though, the demo they showed was pretty cool. Also, it looked as if you wont be required to do purchases directly through google checkout, as the demo just used a credit card to make an in-app purchase. Carrier billing will also be an option.

Yea, sign in works but it still can't install to devices. I am getting sick of Google introducing half-baked, untested things to the masses. Do they ever release something not in beta?

That last part is the error I got while it was parsing my device list.

I just gave it a try and it worked perfectly for me. Signed in with one click and it installed the app within seconds.

Works for me too!

Apparently, it works for some apps and not for others. Follow this link to see what others have said about it.

Almost half a dozen people had the same issue.
They only just got the sign in issue fixed.

Works on solitare but , not for pandora.

I was able to get signed in but when inputting my phone number I got an error. Now when I try to install an app I get "There are no android phones associated with this account. Please sign in with a different account." I've had my phone and gmail account synched up for over 6 months now, what gives!?

No issues here....

Basically it allows you to have multiple phones attached to the same account. To install apps go to market.android.com sign in to your account and then you can browse and install apps. As others have noted though, there are still some hang-ups in the system.
Keep an eye on youtube.com/android and soon they will post a recap of todays conference (not up yet)

GMAIL Mobile APP certificate error on T-mobile WM6

Has anyone figured out how to solve the issue with the Gmail mobile Java app and the "Your phone doesn’t have the appropriate certificate to communicate with Gmail" error?
I used to have a motorola razr, and the app worked just fine, so it's not T-mobile blocking me ... but rather something in WM6.

Actually, i just tried this the other day with My Wing, and I had no issues. But, I have had issues before when I was using the Standard T-Mobile ROM. Currently I am using the Touch-IT Rom.
As an FYI for anyone having problems with the stock TMO rom's ... after installing the PDAVIET TouchFlo rom, the GMAIL app works flawlessly, but I had to install the java from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1483665&postcount=24
i prefer to check it from PIE. my homepage is set up as google and it includes GMail (showing last 5 emails) as well as a few other blogs. Checking for new mail without even logging in makes it very quick, just load up PIE. I gave up with the gmail app a while ago...
Yeah, I have google setup as my homepage too... which is nice, but I like the ability to use the gmail app since it has more off the options you would get on the actual site.
Plus there's that whole "hell yeah" feeling you get when you finally get something to work that been making you crazy for the past 2 months! haha... similiar to my getting the resized mms problem fixed.
great results!
Have to verify duprade - I am running a stock wing and simply installed the cab, started that version of Java and ran the Gmail mobile app (no cert prompt or anything.....)
--paklids.
Glad you got it working. I was certainly relieved when I got it to work.... funny thing is I barely use it ... I just want it to work when I do need it.
I actually got this to work by downloading the file on my phone. When it tried to run it, i got the cert error. but i opened esmertec jbed, went to menu, install, local file and it finds the gmail file. Click gmail in the list and it will start the install.
Working fine for me now. You do have to hit yes a few times for it to connect...but this should work. let me know.
I do this also, but the only problem is that it does not display attachments, such as photos. Any ideas on how to fix that?
Thanks.

Paid apps on new Gmail account

I've searched a few times and can't really find much on this, but I'm about to root my G1 (the T-Mobile version) and that means fully wiping it. I've got a few apps including open home and SNesoid on there that are paid for and linked to a gmail account I'm wanting to get rid of. When I reinstall everything on the phone I want to use a fresh gmail account with a new user name but I'm not sure how I would get those paid apps transferred to that account. Anyone know of a way to do this?

Well there is no way you can get them from the market back because thats all linked to your account and with a new account you would have to buy them again. Make backups of all your apk's and for the protected ones pull them using adb.
If I am correct, all you have to do is "relink your market account to your "credit card" info and it should be there. :]
OK perfect. I will probably do both just to be safe. Thanks a lot.
There seems to be a method detailed in the thread here:

Technically the credit card is on your google checkout account, not your gmail account. And as long as you've paid for an app (and not refunded it) you should be able to get updates for it on that google account as long as the developer provides them.
ok thanks for that but would i still get the app updates if i cancel my google checkout account?

It's likely that when you attempt to redownload an app you had previously purchased but uninstalled that the market backend parses your google checkout account for a record of having purchased an app. Since there's no way currently to remove checkout from a Google account, there's probably no way you could get into a situation where your checkout history became unaccessible for the market backend.
Of course until someone has any actual experience in this matter, all I wrote above is just an educated guess.
I just flashed a new ROM and configurated it with my Google Apps Account.
Then I went to Market and searched for a app I had bought with my normal Google Account which is connected to Checkout.
Market asked me for a gmail Account because the Apps account does not work for buying at the Market and I entered the GMail account informations and still had to buy the app I still have bought before?!
How can I tell Market to show me the apps I still have bought? And yes, I bought it with the same credit card, I did not make any change at checkout
I would contact the developer of said app and explain the situation and provide your info and see if he will honor it. I don't see where a dev would have a problem sending you an apk providing you proved that you purchased it.
got it with with Tutorial:

strange thing... i tryed market enabler to fake a new provider but with no sucess.. weird.. some new google protection ?
maybe when you log with donut the make a reg with your mail that you have a 1.6 version... and you can only acess 1.6 market with that mail...
and the lack of apps is because the most of them arent 1.6 ready ?
maybe that.. but.. for example handcent sms are already 1.6 ready.. but doenst show ..

i'll take a look at it. i thought craig0rs market fix resolved that issue. maybe it's something with the system-donut-102509.sqsh if the system-htc-donut.sqsh works. i don't know what google is doing maybe they make checks against build types or log different things in the build.prop and keep a black list. i haven't used the market recently but i test each one that i put out with a new account and didn't notice a difference in the amount of apps when i put the newest build up four days ago. i have a build i've been testing that's using cyanogens build.prop and that seems to work so maybe i'll put that up.
anyway you can always start clean and open market and create a new account let everything sync then go home and clear your google apps cache in settings/applications/manage applications/google apps and open gmail and log in with your old account. the market setting should still be intact. other than that i don't know what to tell you as we're not even supposed to be using the market because we're not running genuine android phones.
well i pulled the latest 2 donut builds.
i tryed the craig0r http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=568580 solution but with no sucess.. ill try latter again maybe i missed something... and then ill post
well i have to use a new account for market and the older account for syncro :\
hope raises a solution for this
thanks zen.. if i can help with something with this just ask
damn google
I'm having the same problem as well after using Donut than using xRom.

I noticed this as well. I tried using a fresh account that I made on google.com and it still did not give me all the apps. However I cleared all of my cache from google apps (market, gmail, etc.) and then set up a new account using the new account creator when you click on market. WHEN I USED THE ACCOUNT CREATED WITH ANDROID then I had the full list of free apps, Facebook, chompSMS, all of it. Not sure why it is doing that but now I can do everything. I was using the newest donut build on the android google-code. not sure if that helps but if definitely worked for me

but the most strange is that some apps are there and new apps shows every day...
i think they are migrating to this "new system" little by little .. day by day ?

dont know the problem is that your account gets flagged some way that you cant use old market no more

I had a Vogue that was running ION and loaded DONUT on it and experienced the Market Apps problem. Verizon warrantied my Vogue out because it had a dead pixel and was under manufacturer's warranty and I loaded ION onto the new one and the full market was back. Throughout the whole affair I used the same Gmail Account, so I'm convinced it's not our Gmail Accounts being tagged but the phone ESN's... this explains why when you move to a Genuine Android Phone the full market comes back as well.

never tested with a new account in donut...
so if is that.. probably you account get flagged with cupcake and when you log to donut with your account they probably now that you where on a cupcake before and make another flag to your account .. after that your account gets useless in both donut and cupcake..
so .. no way to fake your phone.. because the problem is in the account.. solutions ?

Google music beta

So here I am in the uk been a little annoyed that google chose only to do the trial in the usa. When I happened upon a link to sign up to the beta via some american proxy. This was only a day after the google io conference. I've heard nothing about it since until today when I got an email inviting me to the beta. And wow it works, and works well even here in the uk. Its not at all fast to upload your songs and I haven't dug too deep into the options yet but it works pretty cool. You can even play your music from any pc via a browser and I've added my google account to my wifes phone and that too is synching our music collection.
Anyway long post just to give those people who signed up and heard nothing some hope.
God luck all

With regards to playing music via a pc based web browser, you don't need a proxy. it just works, the initial "proxy hack" is only used to fool the google servers into accepting your beta request as its only open to US ip addresses. Once you've been accepted they don't keep checking.

[Q] Using a Nexus 4 without sending every private piece of info to Google

I got my N4 a couple of days ago. It's my first foray in the Android world.
The requirements that I am hoping to meet are pretty simple:
1) I want to be able to call contacts and send text messages
2) I don't want Google tracking my contact list
3) I don't want Google tracking my location
4) I don't want Google tracking my browsing history
5) I want to be able to use the Play store to download 3rd party apps. I didn't buy an N4 to use it it like a dumbphone. Logically, the Play store shouldn't require constant access to my contacts, location or browsing history.
I am making this post to get help meeting the above requirements. Despite seeming really basic, I'm running into trouble, and I think I will need frequent help. This thread can act as a journal that hopefully other people can follow.
What I did so far is immediately flashed the N4 to AOKP, and applied the OpenPDroid patches (though I've yet to use OPD). From a blank slate start, I declined to create an account, disabled location access, etc, during the startup wizard.
Adding a contact round 1
I was able to create a local, unsynced contact.
Using the Play store
I was forced to sign up for a gmail account, which is normal. I declined to "keep this phone backed up with my Google Account". I then went in Settings > Account and disabled sync for everything, including Contacts. I also disabled background sync in the power controls.
Adding a contact round 2
I am now unable to add a contact without being forced to sync it with my BS gmail account. When I click "Add Contact" in the phone app, a dialog says "Your contact will be synced with [email protected]" and my choices are either "OK", "Add other account", or to cancel out by clicking Back.
So I'm already stuck. Once a Play account is created, I am now unable to do something as basic as adding a contact without sending it to Google. Can someone tell me how to get past this obstacle?
That's how Google makes their money! Your only options are to either start using the amazon app store only or side loading apps if you don't want Google involvement. Good luck.

Why? Like they don't have all your information already? You freely give your information to everyone when you use the internet. Congratulations. You are not that special.

Eurotrash: always in this sort of discussions there's people like you who essentially advocate shutting up and taking it. "That's how things are" is not an acceptable solution to my problem, or I would not have made this post. There IS a way around the creeping, and someone knows it. My last resort is blocking every Google service from accessing the Internet except Play. I'm asking here because I'm hoping there's a less extreme solution that other people can use.
Gotzadroid: I will hold out for a better solution. Amazon appstore will likely be limited. Sideloading is not possible because many devs don't provide APKs
I know you can get an app to block individual permissions of other apps: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stericson.permissions
It requires root. Not sure about the contacts and other stuff you wanted to block, im assuming you've disabled location services.
Why not try flashing like cm10 and not flashing gapps so no Google apps? Then just manually downloading the apps apks and sideload the ones you need?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Didn't think my post lacked clarity, so hopefully this will be clearer:
My ONLY problem right now (we'll leave the rest for later) is that the Phone app, an essential app if I want to use my phone for making calls, an app that isn't even part of Gapps, doesn't let me add a local contact without sharing it with Google. That's it. Forget everything else in my post.
So my simple question is, how do I add my friend Bob to my contact list, locally in phone memory or on the SIM card or whatever, without telling Google I'm friends with Bob and giving them his phone number?

OK, try this. Make a dummy gmail account for the play store only. Get all the apps you want and then sign out of gmail. Only sign back in when you want another app. That should keep Google from syncing all your info.

The Phone app is not a part of gapps. It came on the stock ROM before I flashed gapps on it. I didn't try it before adding gapps, are you saying it will change behavior and no longer prompt me to sync when I try to add a contact?
I gotta go to sleep, I'll do more tests tomorrow evening to test this (and wait for your reply to the above question in case you misread my posts).
If the answer to the above question is yes, this would immediately beg another question: how do I install 3rd party apps from Play without flashing gapps?

OK, try this. Make a dummy gmail account for the play store only. Get all the apps you want and then sign out of gmail. Only sign back in when you want another app. That should keep Google from syncing all your info.

That's what I did in the OP (2nd bolded step). I created a dummy account cause Play requires it. That became my main Google account on this phone (since I declined to set up an account prior to that). That's the account Google tries to sync my contacts to when I try to add a contact.
I looked in the Gmail app, there's no way for me to sign out. All I can do is add more accounts.

However, I'd also be interested in a deeper insight on why you're trying to do this. Fear of the big brother? Or just proving a point?
We know before buying an android phone that everything is tied to that Gmail address; now you want to cut that tie but maintain full functionality. Well, that probably doesn't work. And if it at the end does, why going through all that trouble? If a different platform offers all that then..
Why you bought an android phone in the first place? Just curious

You can try downloading or side loading the app "contacts+" then sign out of your dummy gmail account. You can get a sim to USB hub online and plug your sim into the hub and into PC to add contacts directly to sim. I don't know if there's a way to export contacts to sim anymore unless I'm guessing developers somehow add that feature. So look into CM or another well built ROM and ask some questions.
Good luck

Stock rom comes with gapps already loaded.
Most custom roms come without them and they must be flashed separately. If you choose not to flash them you aren't even given an option to sign into your Google account at first boot, so there will obviously be no option to sync your contacts.
Your phone will be crippled and you'll have to find workarounds for many things. I don't think you'll be able to use Maps for example. To install apps you'll have to download and install the apks or use an alternative app market like SlideMe or Amazon
What's there to hide? They're just contacts

Google doesn't care what your Aunt Bertie's phone number is. All they use the data for is to customize ads for you, and if you're going to be seeing ads anyways they might as well be relevant to you.

It's disappointing that the thread is taking the direction of Google advocacy rather than finding a technical solution to my problem, hopefully this post answers your questions and we can stop arguing about this.

Nope, not full functionality. I can avoid using all gapps. The only required Google service is the Play store, which is the primary gateway to non-Google apps. I would use Email over Gmail, Navfree over Maps, etc.
The next paragraph is meant as a reply to the 5 posts essentially saying "tinfoil hat, trust Google!".
This is supposed to be an open phone, allowing the user to do what they want, compared to the big bad iOS. That's why I bought it. Now I find out Google is insisting on taking something extremely private (my social graph) even when I don't want to give it to them. I respect my friends' privacy, and I don't want an intersection of my online and offline lives being made by some 3rd party with intentions I don't trust. The insistence is starting to creep me out. You can provide convenience and still respect basic privacy, look at Mozilla with Firefox Sync: even they don't see the data you sync. I'm not even asking for that much, just respect my wish to draw the line at real-life stuff. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, this is the company banning people using pseudonyms on Google+.
The most disappointing thing in all this, is that you have 5000 custom ROMs being developed, which mainly differ in pointless GUI BS like scroll animation speed. Not a single one of those projects thought to provide a way to make the phone usable without giving up extremely private data. AFAIK only 3 guys are working on privacy stuff, and even those guys' patches and apps don't protect you from the Eye of Google.

What if I don't want tailored ads? Or what if I only want tailored ads by tracking the online activity I'm willing to submit to them, and I feel it should be my my right to draw a line? Many people are not comfortable seeing an intersection of online and real life activity. I am one of those people.

Simple question deserves simple answer, only thing I can think of, go to settings > accounts > google > tap your account email address > and uncheck the things you don't want synced with google.
Hopefully it works and you will just have a local copy of everything then.
Again just flash like cyanogen mod since you have to flash gapps separate. Then don't flash gapps and your phone will have nothing to do with google.
