[Q] 2.3.151 Update/bloatware prob - Droid X General

I have a DX with Version.2.3.151.MB810.Verizon.en.US, rooted.
1) My phone keeps trying to force me to update, and it then fails the update. I rooted my phone and deleted (no backup) several pieces of bloatware. I put blockbuster and amazon mp3 back on from the marketplace, but I can't find CityID or DLNA there. Can I update to 2.3.340?
2) I do not know how to make a failsafe backup of everything in the event that I totally screw stuff up. I've been looking through posts for hours, and have seen people suggest backing up a million times, but I cannot find out how to do that. Can anyone link me to something showing me how to back up my phone, and how to flash that backup back on?

http://www.chadhaney.com/droidXDefault/ link to all bloatware app downloads
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App

I just downloaded the programs I am missing, and I cannot instal the DLNA stuff. I am assume it is because the odex stuff isn't there, and I can't put the odex stuff in the app folder because it is write protected. How can I change the permissions on the app folder?

If you flash this file through bootstrap recovery, then you will be on the latest OTA and ready to go.

So does maderstock do the same as sbf?

It says coming from a non blur rom will surely boot loop your phone. Is liberty non blur?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App

Okay, so I can download that file, flash it from recovery, and have an updated phone. It says to make a backup, how do I do that? Would that backup be another .zip file to flash? If I do back up my phone, update it with the maderstcok file, and if it screws up, I would be able to simply go into the recovery and use the backup zip to fix everything?

If you have DX Bootstrapper, open up that app, select bootstrap recovery, wait for the "Success" message, then select reboot recovery.
Your phone will reboot into the bootstrap menu... Use the volume keys to go down to backup/recovery and select that with the camera button. You will get another menu, and just select backup using the volume and camera keys....
The phone should now spend a few minutes backing up... when its done, use the power key to back out to the main menu, and then install the .zip.....
If the install screws up your phone, then boot into bootstrap recovery using any of the methods, go down to backup/recover, and select recover.. There should only be one file, and its the time-date that you did the backup.... Select that, then "yes" and let it do its thing.... Your phone will be back to the exaCT condition you backed it up in..... including any unread text messages.... enjoy

You all are amazing. Thanks a million times!

I updated my phone with maderstock, and it works.
The problem is that I now cannot root my phone again, and am stuck with all of the bloatware. Can anyone help with this? I cannot download z4root through the market (will not show up in Market), and when I download it through a browser, it won't work.

and the phone keeps trying to update, and telling me that the download failed.

well, i tried downloading and it failed? any extra steps to download? unroot or anything?
I was still rooted... Maybe the server's being swamped...
well it finished downloading. so i dont' know. tried doing unrooting with one click but not working so no im stuck. bootstrap or any app i need to uninstalled?
anyone extracting update.zip?
same here. i tried to install the update file but i reboot into clockworkmod recovery and it tells me i failed to update
Working good, now we'll need to divide the forum questions Before Froyo BF and After Froyo AF. No bugs yet, though flash doesn't quite match lip sync, not too sure if it's the site or not.
Worked great, tried flash and that works beautifully. Phone sure seems to be a bit smoother. I had rooted the phone and I unrooted it before performing the OTA update.

I think this bricked my phone. Stuck at the Moto logo now.

right now i'm thinking it's the clockworkmod, so i am re-installing the stock
if you go to rootzwiki's page, it should show you how to do, if that's your problem.
Well let me know if that method works for you .

Ok, my way worked. All you need to do, is to hard reset, reactivate your phone, and download ota update. It totally worked!
Noobie here..when you say hard set, what exactly do you mean. Do I need to unroot the phone first and then hardset, then go to (with verizon) *228 and ativate?

Well... I tried factory reset and reactivated.. still gets hung up and resets after its reboot to the recovery screen. Comes back with "update failed"
The only thing I had done at one time or another was Koush's Clockwork boot and root.
I had unrooted and uninstalled Kouch's stuff.. then factory reset and reinstalled, same thing. The update will download.. boots to recovery screen, get 1/4 way, error triangle, reboot, "update failed"..
Any ideas? Is there something from Koush's stuff that is hanging around, evern after an uninstall?
I'd really like to get the OTA update!!
Thanks!

Use SBF, you should be able to bring life back to your phone
Anyone know if I need to backup first? I haven't rooted it, I just have a couple dozen apps installed and don't want to lose my text messages and any other information.
Nevermind, I eventually figured out it saves your data.
Trying to get this update. I am rooted and am trying to complete the instruction from the first couple of posts. Setting/About Phone/System Updates
When I go to System update it tells me I have to hava a Motorola Account "System Update " is not available without a Motorola service account. Would you like to set up an account now?
When I choose setup it takes me to Setup Account menu. What account is it talking about? Anyone know?
Same here. I deleted pretty much anythig i could think of and still.nothing. maybe my framework? Anyone got a stock apk framework?
I did that one click root method an i tried doing the unroot and doesn't seem to work.

Issues with OTA update.

Ok. So obviously anyone who has installed the google goggles remover app from the market from paul will have issues to install the ota download via bootloader. I've tried pauls method to fix this and flash back to stock rom via fastboot which could be found here - http://android.modaco.com/content/t...ng-to-stock-1-19-before-applying-the-new-ota/
My issue is it doesn't work for me. Downloaded the pc10img rom, downloaded the fastboot zip. Created a folder on my desktop named android and I put both files in there. I then extracted the fastboot zip and tried to open windows-fastboot exe which was in the zip but all I get is a black screen that opens and closes within 2 seconds. I also tried going to start->run->cmd and trying the last 3 points from pauls site and I get a unsupported command error in cmd terminal in windows. I'm using windows wista 32 bit ( if that matters ). Any ideas fellas? Your help is much appreciated.

Install update without wiping anything
Download zip file then rename it to update.zip and place in root of sdcard
Hold volume down and power then select recovery
Select install update.zip
Once completed your phone will reboot and after it turns on you will get notification saying congratulations you updated phone.
Notice that all your apps and settings remained in tact.
Worked for me.

I can't just install the update it errors out because of google goggles. I used pauls app to remove it from the system. Now I need to restore the ORIGINAL google goggles that came with the phone via flashing back to stock. My issue is pauls fastboot method isn't working out for me.

You have to change directory to the folder you created on the desktop. Then it will work.

how I did it
I had the goggles removed....
I forgot my sync cable at work.... so I renamed the .zip file to pc10img.zip
put it on the root level of my sdcard (i.e. not in any folders). I used a MicroSD adapter.
Then powered up my G2/vision while holding the touch button.
Went to the bootloader and it did a file check and found the zip file and began reflashing then reset and finished.
I also had the update.zip in the same place and it went hands free. No problems.
I used appbrain to back up my apps. but thats me.
Cheers
Just tried this method. Now my g2 is stuck at a black screen with a phone and a green arrow after the OTA update was installed via bootloader..
I cant even boot back into recovery or anything from here....
i had the same problem with the black screen and the green indicator. run fastboot reboot when it completes the update. i removed goggles and used pauls method and everything works great. if its not working youre doing it wrong

Make sure you have it named update noticed you had udate as the spelling. And if you did pauls way and reverted back to stock / wiped then you shouldn't have problems loading the update . Make sure its on the root of your sd card. Then update via bootloader.

Its not that hard, all you do is place the latest OTA update on your sd card, and rename it to update.zip. . .Its easier than it looks. Then you just boot into recovery, and flash it.
But we want to know what we do when we used the google goggles remover app

You have to reflash the stock ROM, meaning it erases everything, then you flash the ota on top. Paul has more infoat his site.

You do realize you have to run the fastboot commands through adb. And that file has to be located where you have fastboot, or the sdk tools folder is.
Code:
fastboot flash zip PC10IMG.zip

I was the stock ROM with my epic rooted ( so i could use wifi hotspot). I got a notice saying 2.2 was finally available, clicked install now and my phone downloaded and then restarted. Then it said install failed and gave me the option to reboot now.
thoughts on how to get froyo working?

Supposedly , it might be because the root deleted thbe bloatware. I reinstalled all te bloatware ad tried themanual install and it failed. I think you have to remove root and reset phone to stock

If you used one click root, and it deleted the Asphalt Demo, give this a shot. Also take a look at richse's post. This will keep you from having to wipe off your phone completely.

Use Backup to gmail to save your phone log and sms. Use tb or my backup to save your files and data. Odin to eb13 (get .exe file from samsung, install on windows, find .tar file in folder) and do your restores. Restoring data across different firmware is sometimes eventful.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
as Klownin says, it's probably the asphalt demo missing. Why they have it set to remove that app when it's known to cause issues in the future with updates is beyond me. Should be left there for the user to back it up and remove it much like all the other crap is left!
99.999% sure the missing demo is your issue, and it can be fixed
To be fair, having clockworkmod in the one-click also breaks updates. If the updates are going to be broken already, why not remove useless files?
Get the cwm flashable eb13 from this thread and flash it with clockworkmod. It will update you from di18->eb13. You don't need to reinstall asphalt. You won't lose your apps and settings.

Now that i'm finally rooted :D

Now that i've finally managed to root my SNS, what should i do now? :O
(What are some good roms, etc)
Look at all of the choices available and find the rom you like the most.
I'd personally recommend,
Lightweight and speed: oxygen
Cm7 is another cool rom
Miui is good as well.
Kernel: netarchys 1.3.7 with proton voltage condolences to undervolt and use voodoo functionality

Yes, but you'd have had enabled back up to your Google account before you rooted and have to enable it on the rooted phone again, then the market will try to restore all apps.
If you didn't you got to do it manually (recommend doing it via webside market for easier accessing old apps), then get Titanium Backup and save all your apps.

No. Redownload them and back it up using a backup apply. I'd recommend tianjin backup pro. It costs $6 but its worth it. It backs up ur apps/games and data along with it.
Every rom flash involving a factory reset will wipe your apps. With titanium backup pro, you can one click restore everything

1. Download the ROM
2. mount the phone's USB
3. put it on the root of the /sdcard/ while mounted
4. unmount
5. go into recovery
6. wipe factory settings, data cache, dalvk cache (advanced)
P.S. i'd recommend getting clockwork 4.0.0.2 from the dev forums, its a lot better. better organization on wipes
7. flash the ROM (if you're flashing CM7, you have to flash Gapps afterwards) [flash zip from sdcard]
this flash applies to any flashable zips including kernels/roms/radios... DO NOT FLASH BOOT ANIMATIONS. you put them in /system/media/ if you choose to do so
8. reboot

This is latest Google Play apk. Of course you already need the apps on phone to install ie APK Installer or as mentioned Root Explorer or equivalent--:good:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/28338566/com.android.vending-4.9.13.apk
I don't know if you need other Google stuff on phone for this to work, which you may have deleted. So, I don't guarantee--md5 has been verified though--
Like Google Play Services--
