New Android Market 1.6 - confirmed.

- [ Android Market 1.6 video ] -
Eric Chu:
"I’m pleased to let you know about several updates to Android Market. First, we will soon introduce new features in Android Market for Android 1.6 that will improve the overall experience for users. As part of this change, developers will be able to provide screenshots, promotional icons and descriptions that will better show off applications and games.
We have also added four new sub-categories for applications: sports, health, themes, and comics. Developers can now choose these sub-categories for both new and existing applications via the publisher website. Finally, we have added seller support for developers in Italy. Italian developers can go to the publisher website to upload applications and target any of the countries where paid applications are currently available to users.
To take advantage of the upcoming Android Market refresh, we encourage you to visit the Android Market publisher website and upload additional marketing assets. Check out the video below for some of the highlights".

[INFO] Good review site

Its seems hard to find good review sites. Here is one I like along with a comparative review of xoom, ipad, a500 and the tf101.

[INFO] usa today

Good write up on TF in USA today tech section. today
Here is the link.
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/products/2011-05-21-review-eee-pad-transformer_n.htm
It's an Associated Press article, so it has been reposted on tons of sites.

Yahoo news is a good place to read ignorant comments.
'iPad apps, including The Wall Street Journal are not available at all'!
He's never heard of 'world newspapers app' then!
'Others, such as The New York Times, are available only in inferior versions, designed for the smartphone'
Never bothered looking through the market and found 'New York Times Tablet Edition'!!
What's the point of having reviewers that don't know jack ****.
Great, now laymen will be competing with us to try to get the unavailable tablet...

More sales, means more focus from ASUS on bug fixes and updates.

ZTE PR contact here

Hi there
I work for a public relations agency that acts on behalf of ZTE in Europe.
Our aim in joining the forum is to be helpful with product, market and technical questions where we can, and to go back to ZTE to get answers where we need to, within the boundaries of what is acceptable/allowable based on ZTE’s standard terms, and/or the terms ZTE has agreed with operators for operator-branded devices.
Pease be patient.. I am here to genuinely try to help, but please understand that at times I might have to say "no" based on those constraints.
Hi and most of all welcome.
It is rare that a representative of a company is active on a forum but I like and applaud it.
My personal reason to buy a product, and I think alot of people here, is that there is true community of development and progress in the latest and greatest.
XDA is the future now and what the people want!
If a manufacturer can aid them it will be a win win situation.
Android device sales have boomed in the last year to what I think is also a result of word of mouth.
Most of my friends and colleagues are now interested and will buy, or have already bought an Android phone over the last couple of months because I showed them the possibilities and the tremendous support of this forum.
The power that these boards have is stellar and it is up to the manufacturer to listen to what the people say or want to adapt in future needs.
Marketing to sell is one thing but support is even more important so current customers will stay with your brand.
In my case I bought the blade in Belgium where I currently live to act as an interim phone due to my HTC HD2 being broken (again).
At first I thought I would have withdrawel symptoms towards the HD2 but I got to love my Blade. I now got to love it that much that a couple of people I know have got one too. I might sell my HD2 whenever I get it back and for sure keep the Blade.
I am already looking forward to test the new range of ZTE phones, so if you need testers ;-)
Thanks lukesan - this is great feedback and I will share it with ZTE HQ.
Since announcing ZTE's presence on xda and MoDaCo as well as Tweeting on @ZTE_UK - we have already received lots of offers of help in testing new devices!
I will tell you what I have told others, as ZTE's European PR team we would love to get as many devices into the hands of as many enthusiasts as possible - since it is excellent PR. Sadly, at this stage I cannot promise devices for review - all I can say is I will flag the interest with people at ZTE.
Cheers
Sean
on the 24th June 2011, ZTE released a 2.2.2 software update for the China Unicom V880 blade located here: http://support.zte.com.cn/ftpdata/手机售后/技术资料发布/3G/V880/image-P729CUV1.0.0B15.zip
Will zte be providing an updated 2.6.32 kernel source for this software update as I would like to study their code to see what improvements were made
agree with hecatae, we need an update to .32 first.

Ara developer edition shipping "Fall 2016" (source: official site)

I saw a [no url=http //gizmodo.com/googles-project-ara-modular-smartphone-will-ship-to-dev-1777834543]story on Gizmodo about the developer version of Ara[/no url] shipping this year.
Followed it up and [no url=https //atap.google.com/ara/]Google says Ara will ship to developers in Fall 2016[/no url].
Great news! But...
...there's a form at the bottom to register interest about becoming a developer...
...still great, but..
...not much info on how the modules interact with the OS, other than it uses a new GreyBus /whether it's likely the "GreyBus" stack will be implemented on other OSes (e.g. home automation, microservers etc.) for plug/play on other systems and for development. (*)
For some use cases, knowing the software side of that interface is pretty critical.
I haven't sought out GreyBus docs yet (they may provide all the answers, AFAICS not linked to on the Ara page above), but XDA (& projectaratalk.com - also posted there) to be the only real places to discuss Ara, so:
Does anyone here know any detail about GreyBus, what it's capabilities are and how it controls/interacts with modules?
Cheers!
(*) I really like the idea of portable capabilities that are forced to be decoupled [physically too!] from the host system
p.s. can't post links yet, but left the tags in as "no url" and broke the links - hope that's ok
Find the project Ara/GreyBus project on GitHub in case people are interested:
github.com/projectara/greybus-spec
Other places (I can't post links yet) for bacground info on UniPro and GreyBus
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/UniPro
www .modularphonesforum.com/news/greybus-protocol-an-application-layer-for-unipro-491/
kernel-recipes.org/en/2015/talks/an-introduction-to-greybus/
lwn.net/Articles/648400/
Some good articles on this site too: www .modularphonesforum.com/developers/faq/ara-software-stack/
I haven't digested any of it yet, but it looks promising in terms of the scope modules can adopt, declaring what protocols the confirm to etc. But there does seem to be a dependency on protocol adoption by the core before a module using something novel can be rolled out - I need to read some more I think...
If I can get an invitation, I intend to buy one of these for development.
