The A7-1 shown there is a newer model of the A7 and has ( according to what I'm reading ) real multi-touch support, 8 gb nand ( although the other models will have 32 64 and 128 gb nand ), a higher resolution screen ( 1024x600 ) and will run gingerbread 2.3
Curious if I should return my A7 and wait for the A7-1 ( does anyone know when it will actually release? ) or keep the current model?
Your thoughts?

Wow, I thought I got anew tab since mine is a couple days old. seems as soon as you buy you have old equipment.
This is the third android tab I have bought in recent weeks and each one was on sale and seriously outdated. Now with my A7 I thought I had at least afew months before it was old. I can't afford to keep upgrading just to be current and have decent device.
Makes me think I should not have bought android based tab.
I thought we had word that stream would update the first units with new releases like gingerbread .
If they are not going to update these tabs I may take mine back.
The other variable is cost. I am sure the new one will be back to $$400.
Rob

Return it... not having multi touch support will be crippling in the future... I didnt think it was that important but found many applications actually require it for it to function properly - why because the application is expecting it and eLocity put some special wrappers to fake out the application into thinking it has multi touch which freaks out many applications...

Does anyone know what the pricing is going to be on this model and when it will be available??
It all depends on cost to me. There are going to be so many choices after a few months after Honeycomb is released it seems kind of silly to worry about future releases and applications. I mean this tab may be updated to Gingerbread but there is no word about Honeycomb. I would imagine though there would have to be some kind of work around that could be developed because there are going to be a lot of people like us with older tabs that want to run Honeycomb.
To be honest Android is so geared for phones now the tabs out now just seem a little quirky.
Still though I really like my a7 so far. I too have about 30 days to return for any reason. I just do not want to return and then wait for something a few months and then it will cost more than the one I have and will also be obsolete in a few months . I think about 6-12 months after Honey comb is release will we see devices that can actually run it well. First gen devices on Honeycomb will be hampered. Honestly 6-12 months from now I will just upgrade.
As for what the A-7 is now it is a great device. I really enjoy using it. Once I update it and put the google market it will be even better but Android 2.2 is very nice. This device is super speedy and the screen is awesome. Maybe the resolution is not as good and multi-touch will be an issue but for now everything works really well.
If the developers here are able to write a program that will make the screen work like a multi-touch then our problems would be solved.
Rob

Return it.....
Totally agree with stanglx!
Multi-touch is a MUST have for Tablet!
I returned it and got the SGT and I am happy!
I can zoom-in and out with my 2 fingers on most of the apps, which the A7 wouldn't!
Gmail, Google MAPs, Dolphin HD, Google Earth, you-tube.
I don't have to TAB the screen!
And Angry Birds I can zoom out to see the target!

Already have a Nexus One

I bought my N1 with no contract, so on T-mobile i can get a Vibrant for like 160 if i renew for 2 more years. I already have my N1, is there a compelling reason to go for the Vibrant? Besides the nice screen does it do anything better than the N1 already can?
Better Camera for pictures
720p HD video recording and playback (not sure if N1 can do 720p play back)
Pocket $200+ when you sell your N1
I just sold my Nexus One this morning. I'm having a lot more fun with the Vibrant!
There are some people on this forum that went from the N1 to Vibrant; I don't know if I would. The Vibrant is really nice, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. If I were in your shoes I'd wait and see what comes out later this year. Gingerbread will be out by the end of the year, and there are supposed to be some killer devices coming out to go with it.
However I did come from an N900 so it's not like I was really doing that bad, either...
If I had a N1 I would wait for the next gen phones before upgrading (end of year, early 2011). Unless you have to have the latest and greatest, then buy the Vibrant and get the next gen when it comes out as well.
Here's a new vid that just came out,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFPtV8I2BRQ&feature=player_embedded#!
I sold my n1 for this. I think its a good upgrade... there's a few things I miss but the fact that its harder to replace since I can get it replaced in stores and Google's done making em..
Also I needed a true MT screen and the gpu. Other than that I thing there pretty even. Oh and this gorgeous screen....
Non-rooted Nexus One can't do 720p.. but if you root it and apply the hack (or ROM includes it) then it can do 720p recording on the Nexus.
The Vibrant cannot do 720p playback, the resolution of the phone can only do 480p at the most. It can play 720, but it will have no benifit vs a 480 version of the same clip. The nexus can play the same resolution clips that the vibrant can, but the vibrant has more video codecs to play.
I wouldn't have gone from N1 to Vibrant. There is not enough of a difference
I have the N1 and won't be changing. I bought a Vibrant for dev at work and thought I might switch personally but you currently give up as much as you gain. The positives are listed above, but you lose:
-froyo (for now)
-trackball (nice sometimes)
-camera flash
-future 'first' Android updates
Plus, the annoying home button lag is real. Sounds like the only way to currently fix is is rooting and moving over all the apps to NAND, which negates the app storage advantage (which was initially my biggest want).

I think that's it. Thoughts? I, for one, certainly welcome the more capacious battery and higher screen resolution (though that's hardly a big deal on such a small screen). I'm a bit bummed that they didn't use this opportunity to make the screen a bit larger, and include directional keys.
Quite disappointed actually - what is this? A facelift?
This could have been a serious opportunity for Motorola to really create a "grim reaper" for the new Blackberry - and they are just giving it away with something that is already out-dated before its even out! No dual-core cpu? No front-facing camera? Only a VGA screen?? I mean come on .. once in a time, Droids were top of the line Android devices with the latest tech and now Moto just seems to retreat and leave that job to Samsung and LG ... Oh and something else, it doesnt look half as attractive and cheeky as the original Pro ... just my 2 cents ..
No front camera + no screen size increase = FAIL.
I mean come on, how hard is it to make that screen a 3.5 inch? Or at least a 3.3?
I just wish I could get it here in the US. I really don't want to go to Verizon just to get this style of phone.

I've read in several places that it's anticipated to come to the US as well. It evidently has support for both AT&T and T-Mobile: http://www.electronista.com/articles/11/08/30/motorola.pro.plus.unveiled/
Even if it doesn't get an official release in the US, it should be fairly easy to get an unlocked one from overseas.
The phone is definitely a disappointment for me. I love my Pro, and I was looking forward to some sort of significant bump up. Oh well, I guess I'll start looking elsewhere.
Great. I want the better resolution. My BB 9780 had SUCH a glorious screen, the Droid Pro aint bad, but it aint stellar either. Can't wait for this to come out.
Getting my MOTOROLA PRO+ (AKA: MB632, "Elway Plus", apparently...), on Monday, from the UK... Very disappointed to see that there is very little (practically nothing), about said device - and even about its predecessor the DROID PRO - but yet other "not-so-good" (but similar in a way) devices (ie: Samsung Cha-Cha), do even have custom ROMs available at this stage!
This is a very good device (on paper at the moment, I will find out more in 48h when I finally have it) but for those of us that want a "bar" type, qwerty keyboarded, Android smartphone, for mostly emails, texting, calls (obviously) and - most important (at least as far as Im concerned): one of the best battery lives amongst all Android devices! - this is a dream! ...but of course if you are one of them people who use their smartphones more like a tablet (movies, games, music, etc.) than a phone, then this device is not for you...
MOTOROLA PRO+ "Temp Forum"
Im hoping not to be contravening any rules here but since there is barely any info on the MOTOROLA PRO+ at the moment (not much info either on its predecessor MOTOROLA (DROID) PRO), I though all little bits of infor around (I have posted a few things in different places) could be gathered in one place - HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19973225#post19973225 ...at least until when (and if) a dedicated section is created for this device...
Vote for Motorola Pro+ Forum
everyone should go to: Link and vote +1 for a separate Motorola Pro+ Forum
I just got mine ordered and should be here soon. I'm actually excited. I've been using blackberries for 5 years and selling phones for just about the same length of time. I switched to android but after a year I still find typing to still be a pain and a blackberry just can't be fully replaced due to their amazing keyboards. All keyboard android alternatives are horrible. After reading all the reviews this phone sounds exactly like a perfect combination of android meets blackberry.

There is confusion between samsungs in different regions, take a look at this:

Holy brown stuff, they consider our phone optimized for gingerbread!
Why do i need the following to get a reasonable performance:
- a different file system
- a different partitioning (tegrak)
- a tweaked kernel
- init scripts to turn things on/off that sammy forgot
The whole idea of updatable software running on fixed hardware is to be able to expand hardware lifetime and offer expandable functionality.
The least they could do is to offer the community proper access to all the code, source and/or usable binaries, needed to continue the development after they drop support.
SGS is a great phone, although it never did what was promised like gps or hdmi out.
As a programmer i am disgusted by the IT hardware industry. There is no relation between manufacturing costs and selling costs. And now we even seem to be forced to throw away functioning hardware with more computing power then we could imagine 20 years ago. And why do we have to polute this way?
Silly copyrights and unused patents.

i'll buy an iPhone 5 if it will have a bigger screen ! **** samsung and **** android
300million devices sold 2011 a big part should be sgs can't they give us some love? I hope they will leak ICS roms anyway like they are doing with gb now. and since nexus s got it, they can't blame the hardware for being outdated.

Galaxy S optimized for gingerbread? Very sad to know Samsung is putting it that way. I guess it is a big disappointment for us 10 million+ Galaxy S users.
This surely keeps me away from buying Samsung Android handsets, or even any android handset for that matter. I begin to see how fragmentation is a problem in Android. My 3rd generation iPod Touch running iOS 5 with a 600 mhz processor and 256 MB of RAM is more stable and snappy than my Galaxy S with a 1200 mhz (OCed) processor and 512 MB of RAM. Funny thing is, it still gets software updates despite being almost a 3 year old product. The Galaxy S isn't even out for 2 years yet.
I think, the just don't see how they can port ics with tw3. Obviously, they can't do aosp either (being a Samsung device). Only option is to get a cm9 mod or custom rom.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Oh well, that's to be expected from Samsung anyway. I wonder how many of the 10 million ppl bought this handset will ever buy from them again.
I bought my I9000 keeping this in mind anyway. CM9 FTW!

there is so much webtop 3.0 hate when you go looking for info.. either by linux gurus (which immediately earns you my respect, don't get me wrong) or folks who just desperately want to multi task by re-sizing windows =p

this is how we work with documents (app launch time: instant)
this is how we browse the web (app launch time: instant)
this is how we end our day (app launch time: instant)
these are just examples of what we get in tablet mode with various market apps. they will look bigger and better at lapdock HD resolutions. so, think about it please.. then beg your local dev for webtop 3.0 support when ics drivers get here. (i'm assuming a port of webtop 3 roms would be a possibility with ics drivers but i'm not sure on that and that there is a small chance (speculation) we won't get webtop 3 with an official ics due to negative feedback or that we won't get official anything.)

huh? if you're referring to my 'supposed' launch times those are just estimates or rather more accurately comparisons. generally speaking, when you touch a launcher on an android system rocking 1ghz + 1gb ram it may as well be instant. if you can't measure the time without slow motion.. now lets look at webtop 2.0
click the firefox icon and start counting. this isn't science. this is pointing out the obvious that was obviously overlooked? xD
A.aaron you just hit the nail on the head of why I ditched that oddly wonderful webtop. I couldn't put a finger on it but you did; waiting several seconds to launch good old lightweight firefox on a dual core 1gb ddr2 ram linux machine, and it takes forever! This wasn't even something I realized when I used it so much, as it was easily overloaded. I liked it, but I couldn't quite figure out why I repeatedly wanted vanilla android. It was the obviously overlooked, the stupidly slow speed of webtop for the quite capable hardware. A complete disappointment, further hampered by carrier stupidity. Anyhow, I still think the AP20H is powerful:
Ever played C.H.A.O.S? runs butter smooth stock kernel maximum settings, and much smoother than a CM9 touchpad overclocked to dual core snapdragon s3 at 1.7 ghz. This thing can handle a lot, if the software didn't suck. Webtop 3.0 looks like the anti-suck, being android itself presented much more reasonably
i believe that's specifically why they scripted in autostart. i'm not sure why they wasted like 60px for the dock because essentially its ffos. if they'd advertised it as that it would at least appear to be what it actually is. but i mean, have you tried to scroll facebook in that thing? lol
webtop 3 is a step in the right direction. as a student i can use the office apps native to the platform to do my work assuming i have a decent size screen and reliable input. i've got that, i just need the os =D
and i'll prove it, assuming we get the update this quarter.
The Netflix app sucks major ass. Probably should have used a better example.
Also, showing screenshots from two completely different devices gets kinda confusing.

* Qualcomm 8064 CPU (Quadcore)
* 2GB RAM
* 16GB ROM
* Graphics processing comparable to the XBOX 360 (Adreno 320 graphics chip)
* 2000 mAh 3000 mAh battery upgrades

Also, battery life.
Will it have an english MIUI available though?
Great specs, especially love the option for 3000mAh albeit with an extra 2mm thickness. But no mention of an SD card slot?? 16GB inside is fine but not enough for me on the whole.

Based on what I've read, don't expect to get your hands on it until the specs are no longer a wow factor.
Apparently this company has some very interesting marketing strategies, the price is apparently more so an initial head turner and far from permanent. Supply is also iffy.

Only missing feature is NFC, but hard to complain about at that price with those specs. Even if it comes in at $450 or so in the end that's around the Xperia P range so not out of sorts. We'll see if they release the goodies for the devs to tinker with.
Has this gone on sale in China? Maybe one of the Chinese users could clear our queries with regards to this phone. I'm chiefly concerned about the following things:
1. English support (should mostly have)
2. AOSP support (almost certainly might have)
3. Build quality and spares!!
Damn it I live in India and we are China's neighbours. Start selling you phones here guys!
