[Q] Timeout for music player PowerAmp - Milestone 2 General

Hi,
I'm sure I can find settings to regulate timeouts of programs. Lately I gave PowerAmp a try, very neat music player, but when my screen times out PowerAmp does aswell after 5 - 15 mins. First, the program was in my "force close" list in my task manager. I took it out but it still closes.
Somebody?

My phone had the same problem,
took me ages to find out what was wrong - all those google searches paid off tho!
just go to:
Settings > Applications > Running Services
and then delete the original Connecting Music player service...
and if that still doesnt work,
deleting the google listen service may do the trick
let me know if it works

I haven't had the bug for a while but this is a good clue. Thank you so far, I will update here once I tried it out.

Hello,
I'm actually facing the same problem, no matter the player I'm using, the music shut down a few minutes after the screen goes dark.
How do you managed to get rid of the "Connecting music player"??? (called "Lecteur de musique connecté" in my french phone)
I found it in the Settings > Applications > Running Services
but I can't uninstall it (button is disabled).
Please help, thank you

Hi,
well I have not been playing music with PowerAMP lately. But to get rid, or better freeze the program, I guess Titanium Backup would do the job. Why don't you try it out to freeze the native music player with it.

Thank you for your response.
Titanium backup needs my phone to be rooted, so I opened z4root and use the temporary root. A few minutes later, white screen and then it says "temporary root applied. You are now rooted until your next reboot"
I ran Titanium backup which said again that my phone is'nt rooted or that busyBox is'nt installed, but it is.
So, I ran busybox (1.17.1) which says that the phone is'nt rooted too.
So it seems to me that I screwed up with z4root but how?
I don't want to be permanently rooted.
(I will look for an answer on this forum as well)
Thank you

I was having trouble with all the music players crashing as well. I rooted, froze (with Titanium Backup) the Connected Music Player (and other motoblur stuff) and I don't think I've had any trouble ever since with my preference - Cubed player.
goldensgui: I saw somewhere else on these forums that temp root doesn't really work for MM2 - but you can unroot your phone anytime - I do have the option to undo the permanent root (not sure if it works [correctly])

Well, thank you dymonaz, I've followed your advice and rooted my MS2.
I had to root it twice because the first try froze my phone (I waited more than 30 minutes staring at the rolling icon ^^) and I reboot it
The second try was a success (only 2 minutes)
Then, I had no problem with Titanium Backup.
I froze the "Connecting music player" with it and a few motorola's stuff like TV channels etc.
But this didn't solve my problem. I restart my phone (who know's), but no change. So I uninstall and reinstall my player for the nth time and this time IT WORKED and I'm currently using it.
I hope it will last.
Thank you all for your help

I'm afraid I was wrong The fact that it didn't crash for almost two weeks after rooting/disabling motobloat didn't solve the problem, as it crashed again, with the same issue as I was having before:

It really sucks.
It does'nt work anymore and I don't now why.
Frustrating
dymonaz, how did you manage to get this log?

I was using OSMonitor (from the Market) - it has a log viewer.
It requires a lot of scrolling to find these messages, but after reviewing all the other messages for around a few minutes before and after the crash, there was nothing else that made sense to be the cause, so I ruled them out and figured these are the ones...
I have no idea who "called the standby" or why, but there's a very poorly documented standby() method AudioHardwareInterface in Android source code. Didn't have time to dig deeper yet.

I found that, whatever the player I'm using, every time it shuts down.
02:07:07.100 Kill com.maxmpz.audioplayer (pid 5555): provider com.android.providers.media.MediaProvider in dying process android.process.media
Does someone have an idea?

Do you guys put the gallery in the auto-kill list in task manager?
I read a post from other forum long time before, I remember they found out that excluding gallery from auto-kill list would work!
I personally tried to put gallery into auto-kill list before(I forget it will shut down the music player). after I exclude it, the music player never stop unexpectedly again
have a try!

I've got the same problem and thats so bad.. -,-

You were right about the gallery put in auto-kill list, WongJames.
I came with the same conclusion removing one by one the applications in the list.
And it appears that the gallery shares the same provider with the music player.
Sorry about the delay and thank you.
(One new weird thing is that gmail doesn't sync anymore since my player is back)

i didn't understand one thing: i have to put the gallery.apk into the black-list (of which program?) or put it out the black-list?

DO NOT put the stock gallery into auto-end list of ANY task manager/ task killer
And I found out one thing, freezing the stock gallery in titanium backup would not shut down the music player
I used to use Quickpic, so stock gallery is useless to me

I must say that ever since I upgraded with the 2.2.2 SBF, I haven't had a single crash.
I do have all the crapware frozen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11180030&postcount=17

Good to hear that. At least Moto fixed that.

Thank you WongJames, this is my first post in this forum, and the don't-auto-kill gallery-advice actually works for my MM2

Odd issue with YouTube/Media Files

I've already master reset my phone, and the issue persists, so don't bother posting that as a solution.
There has been an issue going on for weeks where media playback stops working. Nothing plays, not even YouTube or media via the Flash Player. The YouTube player just says touch to try again. The Flash and Media Players error out saying the format isn't supported.
Not even the Camera or Video recorders work (gives a generic error message). The only way to get it to work is to power the phone down and back up, until it works again.
Dunno what the issue is. Is anyone having the same issues?
Stock 2.2 KB5 never modded phone with the stock SD card and the only 3rd party apps I have installed are the obvious ones (Twitter, Facebook, Engadget, XDA App, Google Apps, Beautiful Widgets, etc.). Prolly have < a page of 3rd party apps installed.
N8ter,
I was having a similar issue with YouTube and Pandora. After a certain time neither would work, Youtube would give the error message to touch again, and Pandora (or any other music player) would pull up the song it was about to play, then skip it and go to the next one, and on and on. The issue wouldn't go away until I restarted my phone.
Unfortunately I couldn't find a fix for it. I tried clearing the data, cache, etc. with no luck. I have a hunch that it might have to do with an app or a program the runs data in the background or with data itself, switching between wifi and data, or with flash. Of course I could be way off too, who knows.
Right now I'm running Bionix NextGen 1 ROM with Overstock kernel and so far the issue has not come up. Keeping my fingers crossed, and hope our fellow xda'ers have a solution to this problem.
I'm wondering if the OS is shutting down a needed service or something in the background. It's been happening since before KB5 update, but I haven't noticed it being so bad until recently because I put all my music on the Vibrant and it happens when playing audio files as well...
Oddly, ringtones and notification tones still function.
Hi N8ter, DO you have the twitter app installed? I ask this because my sister was having the same issue a couple of weeks ago (we both have vibrants running bionix 1.3.1 ) i really didnt know what was going on so I kind of ignored her issue. It was not until I created a twitter account and downloaded the twitter app that I started having the same problem. I removed the twitter app from both our phones and we havent had the issue for weeks now.
Its odd i know but it worked for me...
You know what, I have been having the same problem, and yes, I do have the Twitter app installed. I hope that is it (I'll try to report back here after a few days, but due to the sporadic nature of the problem, I won't be able to know whether that works). thank you for the suggestion.
I can't really believe that the twitter app might be the problem, but it has been 24 hours without the twitter app and I havent had to restart because my media files/you tube are unrecognizable. I read it somewhere else on xda. I will follow up if it seems that twitter is not the problem.

Yep. I just went to the T-Mobile site and found:
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Samsung-Vibrant/vibrant-file-glitch/td-p/760507/page/2
I just removed the Twitter app and reinstalled Seesmic for Twitter access (not big loss, it's not like Twitter had C2DM support and the phone natively syncs contacts and pictures anyways...).
I'll see how it goes.
Thanks guys... I never had media on my Vibrant until recently (the HD7's external speakers make the Vibrant sound like a Surround Sound system - don't even need headsets for this phone!) and the issue was starting to make me want to beat a baby...
Thank you so much everyone. xda ftw!

Google Music- Invite, Updated App, No Cloud Music

I've searched around (and even tried the method mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1086213&highlight=music) but to no avail: Even with my music invite (and I have uploaded music, and can access it without issue from a browser, or from my Thunderbolt) and the updated app, I still don't have an option for settings in the options menu in the music app (I just have "Shuffle all," "Hide now playing bar," and "Help."). When I go into applications, it shows that the music app version is 3.0.1, but I'm stuck without any means of connecting the app to the service.
Would appreciate any help.
I noticed that too. I checked my google sync options, synced and restarted my xoom and it worked shortly after I rebooted it. Now it shows up as an option under google sync.
I needed to go into the music app's settings and choose which google account I would use. Once I did that all my music appeared.

Thanks, I went ahead and tried that, but it didn't have any effect. Did you have music as an option under google sync before what you tried, or did that only appear after your reset? I can't get it either way.

How did you get into the music app's settings? That's basically my problem, I have no means of getting into the settings.
Usually when an app does not work properly especially after an update, the first thing you can try is going to Tablet Settings > Applications > Manage Application > Music then clear data and reboot and try again. Not sure if that will help here but worth a shot.

On my Xoom I was able to get into the app's setting without any issues. On my d2 I couldn't get into the music app's setting until I uninstalled and then installed it again. Might have to try that.
Your music version should be V3.0.1.339. I you just have version v3.0 you don't have access to the cloud.
The "Settings" feature is not present in the v3.0 version.
You have to update your music app via the US marked = use market access to do this.

I didn't have an option when I did the sync the first time. I also tried to update the music app but I didn't have an option to do so. Once I rebooted and I'm assuming it reloaded my google account to detect my music beta then updated the music app. Another thing you could try is signing out and signing back into your google account.
All right, I've tried stopping the music app, clearing data, and trying again. I also tried stopping the app, clearing data, uninstalling updates, soft resetting, then updating music again through the market. Still doesn't give me an option for settings.
When I check the version, I see 3.0.1.
Would anyone be willing to upload the apk they're using? I'm hoping that might help...
This happened to me when I got my invite. I uninstalled, reinstalled, cleared cache, data, uninstalled, resinstalled etc etc...it took a couple days before I saw a "settings" option in the menu. Now my problem is I can't get Music Manager to upload all my stuff when I want it to.

I've been trying it since I first posted, clearing the cache, resetting, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc. but with no luck so far. I guess I'll keep trying until someone comes up with a solution.
I just got my invite and I had this problem too.
The solution is to uninstall the app with titanium back up then reinstall through the market.

I got so excited when I read this...right up until I tried to uninstall music with Ti Backup...I click the Un-install button, which turns yellow, then hangs. Forever (ok, I only gave it a couple of hours, but I assumed that was enough).
Thanks for the suggestion though, at least I have a new angle now.

always running service: Media > DownloadService

hi guys, I always see Media > DownloadService in running apps.. why it is running all the time? and, being running all the time, is it supposed to drain my battery faster?
I have always lived with that, but if it drains my battery faster I would like to get rid of it..
EDIT: it seems to me it is related to GMAIL.. in fact, after a reinstall, download service process was not there until I started gmail for the first time.. now it is always there again..
can you guys using gmail confirm you have media download service always running?
and people who has not gmail installed can confirm they don't see that process always running? thanks!

hi guys, just a question.. is that normal that I always see maps in running apps? I use maps once per month or even less, so why it should be running all the time? (maps > PrefetcherService)
and, being running all the time, is it supposed to drain my battery faster?
I have always lived with that, but if it drains my battery faster I would like to get rid of it..
the same happens also for "media" (media > DownlodService..... what is that? can I remove it?) and google play music (MusicPlaybackService)
it is really annoying for me to see them always running even when I am not using them....
any suggestion? thanks in advance!!

It happens with me too. I used Greenify and it stopped appearing until the 4.1.6 play store update. Now maps opens automatically almost every 2 minutes. You might not get a significant change in battery life. You can remove google play music though. I don't know about the media download service, might be related to browser or google play music (I recommend not removing it).
thanks for the answer. I tried greenify too and it seems to correctly remove maps here.. (I too have play store 4.1.6, will update to 4.1.10 in a short time btw )
about play music.. I use it, so I can't remove it! btw I greenified it too, so it shouldn't bother anymore
so the only pending problems are media service and also play store (pendingnotification service) that is appearing sometimes in running apps.. unfortunately they are system apps so I can not greenify them
The pendingnotification service might have appeared because of the option to notify you of an update. And yes, the pro version has that feature of hibernating system apps (but its experimental) and god knows what might happen if you do.
of course I disabled the notification and auto update via WiFi options and rebooted but the service kept appearing in running apps sometimes..
as x the media running service, it seems I fixed it removing mediauploader.apk it has not appeared again so far after removing that package!
so all seems good now thanks all!
Sent from my MB526 using Tapatalk 2
EDIT: media downloadservice is back again so it was not related to mediauploader... what the hell can be that??
it seems to me it appeared after running gmail for the first time.. but I will have to confirm that after some more investigations..
after some more attempts, i found out the process: media > DownlodService is related to both gapps and Downloadprovider.apk
if I remove Downloadprovider.apk, that process doesn't appear anymore, but I get gapps FC's (and very probably will not be possible to download anymore things from the browser and/or play store)
so in conclusion it seems to me we have to live with that process running, and that is not possible to really get rid of it safely..
Yup, made that mistake of deleting Downloadservice.apk... Drove me nuts with FCs
so nobody could get rid of that process? you too have it always running?

:silly: Strangely, no, its not always running for me.
It seems to run when I download something in a browser and then disappears after 15 minutes or so

thanks
it seems to me after I installed latest maps 7.x the media > download process is not appearing anymore in running processes.. maybe it was related to sh*tty maps??? :fingers-crossed: :fingers-crossed:

S7 Edge Notification Delay and A Lot of Other Problems

Recently I am having notification delays with my S7 Edge G935F. I have read through some posts on this forum and other sources and can't figure it out.
Here are some of the problems:
1. notifications are often delayed for more than thirty minutes
2. if I want to manually check notification when it does not pop up, unlocking the screen does not make the notification show, I have to actually launch the specific app to see the notification
3. It is more than just not showing the notification, when I am using some instant messaging apps (like WeChat), I can't see new messages coming in while the app is running in the front. I have to press the home button and get back to home screen, then re-enter the app, then the messages show up. This happens to many other apps as well.
4. Other things go wrong as well. For example, my Android Auto was set to launch whenever I get into my car and car bluetooth is connected. It is also delayed, by more than hours. It often launches long after I finish my driving and get back home sitting on my couch.
5. Downloading new apps from Play Store has problems as well. It downloads to 100% and just stops there, it does not start installation. I have to use Settings->App to kill Play Store and re-open it to "refresh" it, then it starts to install.
6. After installation of new app, it does not show up on my screen or app draw inside my launcher. I can see the app installed in Play Store. I have to kill launcher and re-open the launcher to make it "refresh" the app list then I can see new app inside the app draw.
I have also tried a lot of ways to fix it:
1. change app to not battery optimized -> didn't fix it
2. update firmware -> didn't fix it
3. factory reset -> works for the first day then it goes wrong again
4. flash to a different firmware (official ROM in different regions) -> works for the first day then it goes wrong again
5. use third-party ROM (Lineage OS) -> completely fix the problem, but too buggy to use
I can see the general idea of what's going wrong, some events happened (connected to car Bluetooth, new messages coming, app finished downloading, new app installed, etc.) and the system is not responding correctly. I am not very familiar with Android development but I feel like something is wrong with the "event handling" or "event raising" inside Samsung's Android system.
Please post reply if you have any idea or are facing the similar problems.
EDIT:
The phone is on Android 7.0, Build Number NRD90M.G935FXXU1DQER
You've stated that flashing the custom ROM solved the problem, so maybe you should try flashing a different rom that's a bit more stable.
From personal experience i can recommend the SuperStock rom. It's stock (obviously) and it's debloated and very stable with pretty good battery life as far as i remember.
there is some info about it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/want-to-root-custom-one-stay-stock-t3631098?styleid=18 (ignore the root part).
Hi,
did you find any solution to this problem ? cause i got the same problem, and i'm going crazy... few months already and can't figure out what is the problem...
the temporary fix i've found is disabling the "google app" in application manager... it fix the problem but i can't use any Google app features (and i like using them...).
I've found few ppl experiencing the same problem searching on internet but no one with a real fix...
if someone more experienced can help debut this it would really mean a lot...
I think it is the battery optimization setting. You may check the settings>battery>advanced settings>optimize apps. You need to keep the apps un-optimized if you want the notifications and sync.
Also, you may check if Sync is on or off.
If these two does not solve, factory reset if you are on stock ROM. If on a custom ROM, you may check a different ROM
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Actually none of this works... The only thing that "fixes" the issue is disabling the Google app in the application manager... That's why its so weird...
The problem started around July/August 2017 for me...
As i discovered that disabling Google was fixing the problem, i assumed that they'll correct it by updating the app... But only one update of the app was ok, all others would make the problems reappear...
Messing with battery optimization settings doesn't change anything for me... Factory reset as well... The problem comes back as soon as the google app gets updated...
Try clearing cache and deleting data from the Google app the time the problem occurs
already tried... doesn't help at all...

Missing system settings, no lockscreen notifications, Seeking help..

The phone arrived yesterday, I started exploring the interface and I noticed a few issues. Most importantly, I couldn't see notifications on the lock screen like the one from a music app that lets you pause, skip a track and so on. Only after unlocking the phone I'd see the notifications. I tried finding a solution in the settings but after changing some stuff (probably) nothing happened. Then, while doing nothing at all, just locked the phone using power button, opened it and boom, there was a notification from my music app (Shuttle). I repeated this to make sure im not dreaming and after changing a track in the app, the notification no longer appeared. I used google to help me find an answer & all I understood so far is that I have to go in the advanced settings, find the so called "Battery Manager" and disable some app profiles. It was said that by default the app's notifications on the lockscreen are blocked for power saving and by changing these profiles and also tweak some stuff in "Notification & status bar" tab would fix it. I said okay lets do it, but I went in advanced settings and there's no Battery Manager.. and it didnt show up in search either. Is my system outdated? (Side note: I'm a noob when it comes to phones, so I can't possibly pull the correct conclusions here, just saying) I'll include some info from "About phone" tab at the end of this article if that helps. Moving on to the next issue: Can't play video.
My "Can't play video" issue occured when I tried to play a video from within the default gallery app, a video that I recorded a few moments prior. Google didn't help so I downloaded a gallery app after several attempts on more freshly recorded videos, and after installing, the videos would play normally in the new gallery app. I headed back to the default one and on an attempt to play a video, it actually worked now. That's weird. Out of curiousity of what would happen, I uninstalled the gallery app from earlier, leaving me with the phone's default one, tried to play a video and got the same message as in the beginning: "Cannot play video". Out of curiousty once again, I re-installed a gallery app (same one as before) but didn't open it. I headed straight to the default one, tried to play a video and the result was different this time. It said "Error" or something of the sort. Hopefully that info will let you pros figure out the problem.
My "about phone" tab info:
Model Nr: EDI-AL10
EMUI ver. :5.0.1
Android 7.0
Thanks for reading & I'm looking forward to your answers
Edit: Fixed one of the 3 issues I had. Still need some help though, anything, any idea will help.
