A7 stutters when plaing 1080p files help - A7 General

I recently got my a7 and fresh out of ye box I did the elocitymod 1.1 and got the market place. Everything worked okay but when I tried to play my 1080p file the playback was very bad. Stuttering, slowdown and audio/video sync issues. I thought maybe it was the mod causing problems so I went back to the update from elocity(via recovery). Everything works but the same hd video problem, non hd files play fine. Its as if the unit is decoding via software or something. Im wondering if something got deleted when I did te mod? Can some help me

I don't have enough to post in the development section, can anyone help or maybe pass me off to some development people?

You can't ask for help or just post random questions in developmental sections anyways.
I would suggest you try something like ES Task Manager and Mini Task or your favorite task manager and kill other tasks, see if that helps.
If you are loading from an SD card, perhaps you need a faster one, or it may be fragmented.
hope that helps,

I have nothing running pretty much. My memory is at 256mbs free

I found the problem, i was my HD files were High profile H.264, the unit only supports base and Main profile.

Convert 1080p video to .mkv using mpeg4 or xvid codec. Encode at a bitrate between 9000 and 12000. You will be pleasantly surprised. My 1080p 60fps video from Sanyo HD2000 is silky smooth converted this way.

Video, What am I doing wrong.

I have tried several trials on video converters and no matter what I do I get great picture but the voice is way behind.
How do I get the voice to catch up with the film. ( sorry I know it is not techy language)
I use MediaCoder to transcode video. It's free.

The even got the iPod Edition which u can use for simplicity reason.
Thank you, can you tell me what settings you have used on that programme.

He is talking about encoding the movie.
You can try Windows Media Encoder (from Microsoft).
It's also free, and does a good job on encoding movies.
hi guys,
i seem to be having the same problem with the whole audio and video out of sync. i have tried a range of format eg. wmv, mp4, 3gp etc but all are about half a second out of sync. i have even tried core player and tmpcp but with no luck. did anybody else have this problem and manage to fix it? any help will be much appreciated
Hello,
I use the HTC Touch HD Video Converter which is very good. He is especially for WVGA 800 x 480 screens, and the quality of the movie is very good.
HTC Touch HD Video Converter v1.21
DVDFab6
I have not (yet) seen the problem with the sound you describe here.
I use DVDFab6 since a while, originally to convert videos to my iPod, but now also to my HD2.
I have a Touch Diamond too, but the screen is a bit too small to watch for longer time and it drains the batteries also very fast. I haven't tried yet fully, but my first tests show me I can do 3-4 hrs of video on one battery and still have enough power left to use it as a phone. Which is very useful if you have to do a lot of short flights.
I use the PS3 settings in DVDFab6 and adjust the display to 800x444 size, depending on the original size. I found that I can not play them directly from Mediaplayer, but if I click on them in the FileExplorer they start playing without any problem.
BTW, also the iPod m4v files play nicely without delays on the HD2
Yeah i have the same problem, the video/audio file is perfect on my pc but about half a second out of each other on my HD2. You can adjust the audio/video sync in core player but it shouldn't be happening in the first place.
hi guys, thanks for your help. i called htc tech support but all they were able to say was perform a hard reset, which sadly didnt fix the problem! even mp4 videos downloaded straight from the net have the same problem. such a shame because apart from that its an amazing phone. will keep trying and post up if i have any luck
I just tried the one that Braakie suggested and although it converted my 700Mb AVI film to a 500Mb MPEG 4 film, when i tried to copy it to my SD card on my HD2 it said the MPEG 4 format wasn't supported. Can someone enlighten me as to what formats are supported and/or what movie player they use.
I'm having the same audio sync issues as others here. I'm encoding using handbrake and when I play it back on the PC it is perfectly in sync. However when I play it back on the HD2 using the HTC video player the audio lags slightly but noticeably behind the video. When I copy it to my wife's Touch HD it plays fine, so it seems to be a problem with the HD2 software.
I'm running the stock Vodafone 1.43 ROM with all hotfixes applied. Will a ROM update fix this? Anyone else with this ROM having/not having this problem?
I'd be very grateful for any input.
Chaps,
Somewhere on XDA is Chainfire's video driver update (or a reference to it) which you should find and install to help overcome the lip synch issue.
If you can't find it using Search...http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all then go onto the Modaco site and its there somewhere under the Toshiba TG01 device.
Good hunting.
WB
Thanks for your help - I've found the driver here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592663
However, as far as I can see that's a 3D OpenGL driver and not something that I would expect to affect video/audio synchronisation. Unless, of course, you had the same problem and this fixed it for you? I don't really want to mess about with video drivers unless I'm sure it will fix it.
I was a little dubious and cautious myself but installing the driver did seem to make a difference, sufficient for me not to notice it as much.
Installation is a personal choice. You might want to make a full backup of your device using, say, SPB Backup, before you install. That way you can do hard reset and restore if you don't like the driver.
All the best,
WB
I have the same problem with youtube vids too, just had a replacement hd2, but it's just the same, skyfire, coreplayer, youtube you name it, audio lags the video...
Real pain in the butt for a device who's main feature is a huge screen...!!!

Well I installed the 3D driver, which was easy enough, but unfortunately it made no difference at all to the video/audio sync in either of the two driver modes so I uninstalled it again. (No need for a hard reset, thankfully). I'm using the video in this thread to test since you can easily tell whether it's properly in sync or not.

Oh well, it was worth a try - thanks for the suggestion.

Movies Lag On HTC Touch HD....

I tried several movies on the htc and they are not smooth.
Some movies were taken from an old phone that was less powerful and was smooth but is jerky on the htc, why is this?
Yesterday a friend sent a simple video that came with his phone and plays flawlessly for him but for myself it was lagging.
Can anyone think why it's doing this and what I can do to solve the problem?
I tried avi'd, divx/xvid and even mp4 files, all lag. Even different resolutions, say 640x480 or 800x480, etc.
Any suggestions?
Try Core Player. Best player for the HD. If still laggy try another rom.

Ask within Kwbr's thread to see if others are experiencing this. May be known issue with known solution
Certain versions of core player may work better so if you can get hold of a newer/older version it may help, or at the very least worth a try. After trying out the other available versions and other software options with no luck, I would look for a new rom (As long as you flashed the vanilla kwbr file properly and followed the instructions in their thread to the letter, but then I assumed you went through all these basic steps first anyways).

Yes, I did. It's a shame to change the rom because I'm happy with the rom in every other way.
It's fast and responsive, only slows down when playing any video's.
However, as a few of you mentioned, I will try a different, more later version of core player to see if it solves the problem.
If not, I may need a new rom...
If the worst comes to the worst, which rom/s would you suggest that is good for graphical/video performance which is what I'm looking for...
encode your movies in h.264 baseline level 3 with AAC audio, in the mp4 container. HTC Album/Windows Media Player will then use the hardware decoder to play the videos.

That's possible, but I really wanted a player that plays divx/xvid which is what I want.
I tried 2 versions of TCMP but both give me an error when trying to open, so their no good.
I guess I will try a different version of coreplayer.
Problem solved, changed my rom...

Video encoding

Hi all
I have searched the site and the net so please forgive me if I am asking a question that's already been addressed, but I am having real trouble encoding video that will play on my streak.
I am using hand brake on a mac, a few people have suggested on other sites that using the iphone standard settings should produce a video that will play correctly but when I copy it to the device I get the broken video icon, I have tried various different h264 settings but the video is jittery and there is a lot of artifacting.
Has anybody got any ideas? Is it possibly because I am using a mac?
Any help is greatly appreciated

bro, use rockplayer. it plays .avi perfectly. just download tv show/movie and whack it straight onto msd card and your good to go. google: rockplayer apk
Thanks for that, I'll try it right now
Yes i also use rockplayer its pretty sweet since it plays avi, and just to say handbreak on my mac does work and i used the iphone profile and converted videos that the streak was able to play straight away.
Rockplayer works great and so does encoding using the standard iphone profile.

HDMI out not working?? What am I doing wrong here?

I know that there are conflicting reports as to what plays and what doesn't through the HDMI port.
I finally bought a cable. I plugged it in to my phone and the TV. The tv automatically switched to "480p" and goes black (like it is about to do something). But it stays black. For anything.
Also, someone told me that there should be a little "HDMI" icon in the stop left of the phone when it is plugged in. I don't have this on my phone. Nothing happens on my phone at all.
I have 3 HDMI inputs on my tv. It's a viewsonic, if that matters.
Can somebody please help me diagnose this problem?? This is one of the reasons that I bought the phone.
Thanks for any help.
Have you tried the YouTube and Gallery apps? Those are supposed to be the only apps that work.
Only having YouTube and the gallery work with hdmi is another reason to be pissed off about the dos cap. HTC really thought watching YouTube clips were so important that they needed to limit the screen for it?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Dumb question, but just so i'm clear. I have a ripped version of a movie on my phone.. i "should" be able to play that via the HDMI cable using the video gallery app right?

Apparently not.
I have a HDMI cable and a sony bravia and I get 720p and 480p perfectly fine. I encoded some of my blurays to 720p with handbrake and they play perfectly and amaze everyone I show it to. Some things to take note of the video player cant access any movies over 2gb so I just split them since some movies like Avatar can take up 2.5gb alone at 1280x720p using x.264 codec at 60% constant quality and 128 AAC for the audio.

Only slightly off topic, so I will post here. Care to share your handbrake settings for encoding, in further depth than what you posted above? I have read every darn post/thread on the forums and even on internet for handbrake encoding that will work for movies on the EVO, but I fail everytime. I'm thinking it might be decrypting issue, but can't validate that. I get audio, and pixelated video that looks like it might be the copy protection messing with me. I have a 64 bit Windows 7 machine, and have the DVD43 plugin in the background for decryption, but still can't figure it out. Ideas? Point me in the right direction? Sorry if this is too off topic...It relates to the way I want to try and use my HDMI cable...
Sure i use AnyDVD HD for my background decoding and I always rip the movie first to my harddrive using ClownBD http://www.clownbd.com/ that way I have a single M2TS file to work with and it really seem to be faster for me this way as I also keep the uncompressed versions for my home computer system.
Handbrake settings are as follows
Container: mp4
Picture settings: width 1280
Notes: your gonna have to play with aspect ratio settings sometimes because of cropping and ratio settings the video will sometimes want to drop below 1280 to keep aspect ratio what you have to do is set anamorphic to custom then modulus to 16 and set the display width to 1280 you really have to play with the settings and do tests encodes of 3 minutes or so to find the right settings I have only had to do this with one movie so this will not always be the case often your encode will be straight set width to 1280 and check keep aspect ratio and set anamorphic to none.
No Filters
Video: X.264 codec, same as source FPS, constant quality 60.78% RF:20
note: some people have used 2 pass encoding and 1500 bitrate I haven't tried this yet since this is the old way of encoding video files using the x.264 codec but the developer on Handbrakes website had some suggestions himself that the codec is actually better off using a 1pass quality setting so that's what I have been doing since he released the newest version.
Audio: select your source track AAC codec and Dolby Pro Logic II Mixdown sample rate auto and bitrate 128 or 160 doesn't matter just don't go over 160
No Subtitles or chapters or advanced stuff needed from here start encoding and it works. Once your movie is done if it's larger than 2gb than youll need to either split it using another piece of software or try lower quality settings on your encode.

Thanks P. I'll give that all a shot. I suspect it's an encrypting issue that I'm experiencing, so I'll start by trying AnyDVD, and proceed to try the other steps from there.

No problem let me know how it goes if you need any other help send me a PM
Excellent encoding tips, P_Dub_S, you should make a thread on this subject.
Just want to add something that I found out while making 720 rips of some BD movies, the Android player supports only AVC baseline profiles. This could explain why some people are having problems making playable videos. So for those using Handbrake (or any other MP4 compressor), make sure you don't use B-Frames or CABAC entropy coding. If this sounds confusing, just select the iPhone preset in Handbrake first, then make the changes P_Dub mentioned.
I also noticed the output range of the HDMI port is full range (0-255) rather than the more common limited range (16-235) that most consumer HDTVs still default to. So if the video looks overly contrasty (black crush), you might want to check on the HDMI level setting of the TV. If the HDMI driver ever gets re-written, it would be nice to have the output levels selectable on the phone.
HDMI used to work and not anymore
HDMI used to work on my EVO but for whatever the reason is I can get it to work anymore. Does anybody having the same issue and/or having a solution?
How about some details?
What ROM are you using?
What software do you have running?
Have you tried other TVs, other devices on that TV's HDMI connection?
My problem was a task killer, as soon as I rebooted the phone without running a task killer, HDMI out worked.
I am using Rom version 3.26.651.6. It used to work on my Samsung tv and no longer working. I even tried on a Panasonic tv and a gateway monitor with hdmi and no luck. I tried both YouTube and video record directly from the phone. I called Sprint and they are anxious to send me a replacement so not sure if it's a known issue with the EVO. I have the same issue on both phones. I will try Phancy suggestion tonight.
Some kernels break hdmi as well, should check the thread for your rom/kernel your using for issues, what works, what doesn't,etc... if your root.

BUT, all converted files cannot be played on Iconia!

If you want to play smoothly just encode using baseline profile, simply as that.
Of course use a good UI for configure the encoder, like staxrip.
Here is my template
I posted this in another thread too, but I use Rockplayer and it plays everything I throw at it so there's no need to re-encode. The free version is in the Market. The paid version is donateware -- no difference in function other than removing the "R" logo from the upper left corner of the screen.
There's also Mobo Player which is completely free.
Hi guys,
Thank for all replies.
Finally, Rockplayer is the answer, for the format that plays well in Xoom, with software decoding.
Don't know with 3.1, this will improve or not.
