[Q] Smoothest NAND ONLY Desire Z or HD ROM? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I'd like to try literally every Desire HD or Z ROM out there to find what the smoothest one is... No overclocking allowed (SetCPU is OK to setup profiles/governor), no data.img , no EXT2/3/4 involved. The problem is that when working 70+ hours a week, you simply don't have a lot of time to try them all! Plus I depend on my phone for work emails - I can't go without it too terribly long!
In YOUR experience, what is the most smooth and stable Desire HD or Z ROM out there? (FOR TMOUS Branded HD2)
NO - I don't give a rat's rear end about quadrant scores - I am talking about real life speed and lag (or lack there of!) Overclocking for me has done nothing but cause the phone to run slower and less reliably, so I'd rather stick at stock speeds or an extremely modest overclock.
I'm currently running MDJ's CyanogenMod7 2.6 - it's wicked smooth, but I can't help but miss a lot of what Sense offers.
Any input is greatly appreciated!

these kinds of questions are looked down upon in forums, mostly, as conditions always change,
but some say DL DesireZ is the smoothest out there at the moment.
I haven't personally tried it, though

Go to the android dev section at htcpedia.com and download DesireHD-Version of mcmmjoon (currentlx version 5.1) The ROM also achieves 2mAh in Standby!
You cannot get the ROM here because mcmmjoon was kicked from the boards.

I used to be adamant about having Sense, couldn't stand the stock Froyo UI. Then I tried WP7, and that lived all but 2 hours on my HD2 - that's one limited UI and phone OS. After that, I switched to MDJ's CM7 - and loving it for speed and smoothness.
I've been looking for widgets that would be as informative as those in Sense, and found the following solution, which works great for me:
a. Launcher Pro Plus - paid software, but comes with really nice widgets for calendar, "Friends Stream", contacts. Similar to Sense. Nice transitions. Highly recommended.
b. Fancy Widget - clock / weather similar to that of Sense, limited to one city. Paid version supports skins, and HTC 7 is almost an exact replica of that in Sense.
c. You may try Beautiful Widgets as well - has some goodies.
d. DialerOne (free) supports contact search from the phone keypad.
With all this, I'm fine with the rest of the UI, and the speed cannot be beat.

I totally agree, mdj cyanogen mid seven is my daily. Sense looks better, and sometimes may be more intuitive or user friendly, but my god that gingerbread rom is blazing fast.
On another note, I liked beautiful/fancy widget as my clock until I found simi clock. This widget displays time, weather, and even battery percentage in one row. And it looks really simple and minimalistic, which I personally love
Edit: forgot to mention, the only thing the desire hd builds have over mdjs seven is tmous mms fixed. Still can't get mine to come in as well as on cmys build.

I tried all the other ROMS out there and if functionality is what you're looking for, I would stick with the ICE Glacier rom. Everything works and its fast! I use to switch up rom's everyday but always go back to Ice. No wifi issues, FFC works, navi and all that good stuff. I ran CM6 for a week but it was still missing some of the functions. Ill probably rum CM7 when everything works. You cant go wrong with the Glacier Rom. Just install ADW or LPP and customize it to your liking.

Just dload v1.1.4, it just came out 2 days ago. Its fast and has awsome battery life!
Oh..make sure you do a backup and wipe data, wipe cache before flashing it. You probably already know that.
one more quick question, any way to get rid of all that [email protected] blue lol, id prefer a unthemed rom...also have you ever ran evil 4g hd v0.2.2-1.72.405.3??

just install the unthemed version
unthemed links on the forum are dead
Im not to fond of the blue also. I just installed the "unthemed" version and use LPP as a launcher. I might be in the minority but I like the Sense UI over plain froyo, I like the functions, dialer, widgets . Heres a screenie of what I'm running at the moment. Hope this helps...

Dload it directly from your phone. The ROM will be in the dowload folder when its finished. Flash the file from there. You cant dlaod it from a PC, it gives a blank page but the download should work directly on your MT4G.
I have to agree 100% w/ Lakeshow423. Once I installed ClockworkMod Recovery and flashed a new recovery, I was going to try out CM6, Gorilla's, Ice, etc.
I went with Ice Glacier first, after reading everyone's positive reviews. That and it's still the HTC Sense UI, which I wanted. I used a G1 for years so I've had plenty of the vanilla Android experience.
Also, I am not experiencing any issues downloading the latest (1.1.4) release @...

I actually installed the themed version first, thinking I'd like the cool blue trim/accents. It actually ended up being a bit much for me and I found myself longing for the unthemed version. I couldn't be happier with this ROM. For those looking to "keep things the same," but want to get more speed, a better user experience and a bit better battery life (via SetCPU), I think Ice Glacier is the wiener.
Add to that, the devs working on it - teamsilence and NOTXEL21 - have been nothing but nice and quick to release updates. The ROMs are pretty much near perfect. There was an issue in 1.1.3 with WiFi hotspot (an issue w/ the included kernel) and they pretty much immediately released, 1.1.4 with a fix (downgraded kernel). Add to that, the devs are already "teasing" Gingerbread. Please, do not take this as, "shlongwoodian said they're releasing a Gingerbread ROM." I'm not saying that at all. I'm just saying these two devs seem like cool guys and they're doing great work...and I'll stick with them for updates, not TMO or HTC.
I like Sense, so I wasn't looking to theme/mod my interface too much. I think my "almost-standard-issue" home screen is quite sexy, if you ask me...
Going to Ice Glacier is the best thing you can do for your HTC Glacier. I can't stress enough, to do a Titanium backup first (verify it too) and then before flashing/deleting or doing ANYTHING in recovery, do a Nandroid backup first!

Yep, Cyanogen is Sense-less and will give you the vanilla Android feel.
Hands down, Ice Glacier is where it's at, IMHO. Our employee wanted vanilla and tried Cyanogen - he ended up back at Ice Glacier.
It all comes down to personal preference, both with the ROM itself and the dev(s). I get a good feel from both with Ice Glacier.
The good thing is, you can try em all! Make a Nandroid, try and if ya don't like, flash another ROM.
Those iPhone girlies don't have that luxury.
[[[Ice Glacier beats Rock ~ via XDA App]]]
I like the phone exactly as it comes from T-Mobile. All I wish I could do is remove stuff I don't use like news, stocks, and some of the games. I would also like to do screen shots, and it wouldn't hurt if it were faster, maybe load different themes. Aside from that, I like everything as its meant to be and find this blue to be quite annoying.

fastest newest rom?

I'm trying out synergy newest on god mode and some aspects are fast but others are too laggy like when I try to open a program or move anything on my screen like menus or the unlock disc. Is there a way to fix this or is this Rom not as smooth and fast as it sounds and theres really something better out there?
flash the non-landscape rosie title bar in the synergy updater
I just spent all week trying out miui rom and I love the speed of it. There is NOTHING slow about this rom. Nothing laggy. Period.
BUT
The voice mail does not work right
and the GPS is **** at best.
Anybody have any better ideas of something similar to miui? Thanks.

yeah you could fix the GPS in about 15min and use Youmail. MIUI Rocks
When I was last on MIUI the GPS f'ed up on me while I was trying to locate a bar, but when I tried the many GPS fixes a few days later it seemed to fix the issue.
The other day on Synergy I was using the GPS and it kept telling me to go the wrong way until I exited and re-entered Nav. Thankfully I knew the way for the first part of the trip so I didn't get lost but it was irritating.
So I think the Android GPS is just sometimes lacking
Nothing faster then an AOSP rom
I'm enjoying MIUI right now too, but if you want a smooth ROM that's solid out of the box, MikG 2.45 is what you want.

Can't get any faster than an AOSP rom...simply because it's stripped down and the most "basic" you can make your phone.

I'm running Deck's 1.3b2 build with Tiamat 4.0.6, ViperMod & the V6 SuperCharger script, I use LauncherPro Plus as my launcher.
Battery life is incredible (I'm using the SBC flavor), having zero issues with GPS, no app FC's, phone is smooth as silk (1194 max, 245 min, Smartass governor).
Quadrant scores average 1325-1400 (take that however you want to take it, just a number guideline). Keep in mind that "GodMode" hasn't been incorporated into any AOSP ROMs last I had checked.
This is honestly the best my phone has ever run. Under light to medium usage today, I'm at 85% after being off the charger 4h12m using the stock battery I got in June of last year.
I haven't run a Sense ROM in over 4 months just because of how tickled I am with AOSP, but of course, to each their own and YMMV. I've tried MIUI in the past, but I prefer a 180 pixel density, which MIUI does not support. I like to feel like I'm getting all 800 x 480 pixels when I use my phone.
I'm using synergy godmode with freedom v 0.6 and I experience no lag at all and for anyone that cares quadrant scores have exceeded 1600 running this
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I haven't tried too many, but between synergy, MikG (pretty much each version that's come out), and Ava's Ginger-Ale, Ginger-Ale is definitely the fastest and the easiest on my battery (in my experience). The trade off is that Ginger-Ale doesn't have quite all of the bells and whistles that the others do. (less of the sense 3.0 features, fewer mods and themes available, etc.
I am on deck 1.3b2 also. W sz 2.2.1 bfs kernel and SBC my phone is amazing. If u quadrant race I hit 1900s and avg 1700-1800s. Linpacks are in the 40 range all at 1113mhz on demand.
I am now using go launcher and ikandee theme w dare I say iOs icons lol. I am very happy. Full mirroring. Wiimote. Awesome battery. I had to flash maybe 5 zips to get it to here but the look is great. And 0 lag. It works so well and is the best rom I have used to date. I love sense. But this has converted me. I would be happy to send screen shots if it helped and mods it took to get here. Very simple really but very nice for me.

Sorry to get off topic but I am under the impression that godmod modifys the I/O and increases quadrant. Would you be willing to input a terminal command and test something for me? This is my quadrant on the 3rd run after the command
Type su(enter)
Mount(space)-t(space)tmpfs(space)tmpfs(space)/data/data/com.aurorasoftworks.quadrant.ui.standard(or advanced if you use advanced)(enter)
You will get a # sign.
You can either type exit or just back out of emulator until it closes. Then run quadrant 3 times. Kinda curious how it will act w your synergy rom
Edit: I just read that it uses ext2 to mount data and that is the reason for the increases. That command should still do something for ya

Best rom in your opinion?

So after surfing the roms for 2 days to see which one suits me better
I came across the rom mexxdroid preghostchilli which is pretty cool its fast has a cool theme and some nice animations it also has this bootanimation thats awesome and it has sound
So i decided to keep it as my default rom until a new version comes out or the honeycomb port. Ecomes stable and fast

You will find someone with each ROM that's happy with it. Everyone has a different feel for what works for them. You don't want to use the ROM that they like, you should use the ROM that you like.
This thread has been created dozens of times with a myriad of answers already.
The above poster is absolutely correct. Each user will have individual tastes and desires out of a rom. I suppose all of this delves back into the ultimate issue of overall user experience. Perhaps why the CM line is so successful is that they unify that experience across a multitude of devices and generally make sure things work.
I'm very happy with Virtuous Sense v2.0.0
leedroid or miui bulletproof

Calling one ROM "better" than another is an insult to the devs that work hard to give us these ROMs. Each ROM has its own merits. A better thing to ask would be "What is your favorite ROM?". Even so, there are many threads on this topic.

THANK YOU.
I always thought the Mexdroid/PyroMod p*ssing contest was extremely immature. I like the eye candy behind Mexdroid, but PyroMod has the speed.
I happen to like Virtuous G-Lite the best because it has the best battery life and it is definitely the lightest and fastest-performing ROM that I've tried. That being said it doesn't have a lot of the addition "features" and styles of other more custom ROMs but through the use of GO Launcher and just replacing a lot of the stock Android apps with others it is pretty much infinitely customizable. For instance, pretty much the only stock android app I still use is the phone dialer. I've replaced the messaging app, gallery, camera, launcher, and even browser (XScope is pretty awesome btw, thanks Amazon App of the Day).
That's just my two cents but it really is a personal preference.
The lastest Virtuous Unity beta. Seriously, the next stable version will be amazing...
Sense 3.0 run so smooth on this rom!

Which ROM do you prefer for your G2?

I'm not asking for the best ROM and why. I'm just asking what do you guys prefer and why?!? I'm getting my roommates G2 flash-ready and then we have to make a decision and he really has no idea and I haven't owned an HTC before so I wouldn't know where to begin.
Just list your preferred ROM, why and maybe some cool features you like about it.
CyanogenMod is my pick. It takes Android as Google meant it to be, and adds all sorts of functionality. Look here for a very incomplete list of extra goodies. It's a "function over form" kind of ROM.
This is all done by a team of tens of people around the world on a daily basis for years. It's really hard to find that kind of support, dedication, and reliability from any other ROM. Not to mention, the user base is HUGE so you can find support really easily if you're having any technical problems.
I'm very grateful for the CyanogenMod Nightlies. I have played with a few others, but keep coming back.
Why? For starters, check out their web page http://www.cyanogenmod.com/ it shows what you are in for. Vanilla Android. The best part for your room mate to know, is that they don't have to stick with it if they are unhappy. The G2 is very easy to wipe and flash. Use a backup file like MyBackup or Titanium. Then flash back and forth till you find what you prefer.
But I always go back to CM!
MIUI.
I've tried all the ports out there for at least a week each.
I started off with CM7, as my favorite, but I've begun to like MIUI more because of it's "out of the box" completeness. There's tons of usability customisations I used to implement on the CM7 rom, but I have to do very little on MIUI to get my phone to the same level of productivity as CM7 does. SO yeah, I'm on MIUI now. ^_^
I guess I am the rogue here, don't like CyanogenMod ROM's or any CM7 based variant - they're fast, but they always seem buggy to me - I like either G-lite or G-Slim, these are very stock gingerbread, with mild or no overclocking, and mind-blowing battery life and most of all NO ISSUES - no GPS not working, no wifi calling or tethering issues, no force closes all the time, you get the picture.
but to each his own - wouldn't be a very interesting world if we all used the same ROM!
Same, I dont really like CM roms.
Virtuous roms are nice. G-lite or unity.
I use Virtouse Trentacinque at the moment. its only beta, but it's the best sense 3.5 rom out there.
I use InsertCoin Sense 2.1+3.0. I like Sense nad this rom has the best combination of using only the most interesting Sense 3.0 widgets with speed and low memory use of Sense 2.1.
miui are the best roms!
MIUI ftw!

PyroMod FTW
[Bulletproof] MIUI for looks
CM7 for functionality
ive been using G2 Slim for a week now and its the best ROM ive used so far. its fast, clean and has the best battery life when paried with the new radio update from tmo.
There is a thread like this at least once a week.
As you can see, its a matter of personal taste, and those tastes vary quite a bit. Once the phone is rooted, it only takes about 5 minutes to flash a new ROM (after its downloaded). So your buddy should compare features listed for the ROMs, then just pick a few, and try them to see which he likes best. Do a backup with clockworkmod before flashing a custom ROM, just in case he wants to return to the stock ROM easily.

My thoughts exactly and g lite here too!
Like redpoint said, try it and see what you like. Me personally I've really started liking mexdroid, it's got the functionality of cm7 but is nicer to look at, flashier and pretty but still fast.
Glite battery life light use not bad, and fast and stable.
Tapatalk hosting sucks lol, it reads 10 1/2 hours exactly and I'm at 78 % battery life
I like CM7 and MIUI. CM7 because it's fast and full of features, and MIUI because it is extremely customizable.
Speed, animations, battery life, dev support, and ICS theme. Get the combo in my sig!
HTC Vision(G2), meXdroidmod Ghost Chili AIO ROM/ICS CM7 theme.
Bulletproof MIUI for now... probably unless Sense 3.5 ROMs get smooth and stable. CM7 on Vision is also great, but I've already got bored with it on ZTE Blade

[Q] Different of CMx, Sense, MIUI, ...

Hello everyone,
First I'm sorry if my thread make you angry. I installed many ROMs before include:
Ginger Bread (GB): HyperDroid, NexusHD2, TyphooN, Domiranx, NDT Ginger, myMIUI, PureCyanogenMod 7, ...
Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS): NexusHD2, AOKP, PARANOIDANDROID, MIUI ICS, EvoHD2, ...
Jelly Bean (JB): Unofficial CM10 HD2, PARANOID JELLYBEAN HD2, AOKP JELLYBEAN, ...
The position of ROMs in those lists is not sort by prefer.
But now I'm using GB because it's smooth, fast, stable, good responsible. This is my choice not recommend for yours.
I'm just end user not a developer so I can't realize what is the different of those ROMs except the battery life, GUI, some tweaks which I can see & feel. Sorry if I missed something. I don't mention the GB vs ICS vs JB because the different of them are clearly. I just don't know what is different of sense, MIUI & non-sense in GB, ICS & JB?
Can you explain the details?
IMO: the smooth of GB > ICS > JB. I think GB is best choice for my HD2 for daily use.
Many thanks for all developers making the HD2 is still the KING now & later. I greatly appreciate your kindness. :good:
Sense, MIUI and CM7/AOSP are all just different UIs but for the same OS. All are gingerbread.
Sense has a lot of eye candy but is (IMO) slower than the others.
MIUI has a really nice UI and is very smooth, but for me is a bit too iOS-esque. This can be changed with a custom launcher though.
CM7 is basically pure Android from Google (AOSP) but just enhanced and made faster and better by the cyanogenmod team.
Can I ask, why do you feel GB is faster than ICS? In what specific areas?

Thanks for your reply.
IMO only:
First I use all stock launcher, dialer, message, camera, ... almost apps launch faster. Scroll (left, right, up, down) is smoother.
Second I use other launchers (go launcher, launcher pro, ...), dialer (exdialer, go contacts, ...), messaging (go sms, handcent, pansi, ...) they are faster than in ICS. I installed all in both GB & ICS in same phone.
Third when I click home, back, menu, ... they are also faster respond than in ICS.
And GB has softkey in status bar. Not like ICS take a bit space in main screen. That make some apps not work properly. This is a function only not effect the speed or smooth.
you might change your mind about "speed" in ICS after trying the link below, there is NAND & SD version, give the SD-ROM version a try since it's much easier to do

you might change your mind about "speed" in ICS after trying the link below, there is NAND & SD version, give the SD-ROM version a try since it's much easier to do

Thanks for your reply.
IMO only:
I'll try NAND ROM because it'll faster than SD ROM.
Your right NAND is much faster, i'm now trying both & on SD it sometimes stutters but runs smooth on NAND
give us your thoughts
I thought that GB was alot faster than ICS too. But I use the nexusHD2 from v2.5 by tytung(ICS) and let me tell you that it is FASTER than gingerbread. Previously the gb roms were faster but not now.
My advice. Take time out and try as many ICS builds as possible. At least you'll find one that's fully compatible with your device. Try it and you won't regret shifting from GB to ICS
Sent from my NexusHD2 using xda app-developers app
GB on HD2 is faster than ICS & JB
