Must say i do like it, seems much faster but after being on my 2nd handset with the x10 and still trying to get it replaced sony's customer service has put me off buying another handset from them, its a shame it does look a nice phone. Not really bothered about the late update nonsense but i'm sure they will improve this after last year

Dead link mate...

Will I upgrade to an X2? HECK NO! and this is why...

First off let me say I had been a loyal SE fan for years since I bought my first t68. I have owned dozens of phones since then over the years and have purchased every p series phone (except the p1) as my needs increased. I still own many of these phones.
I bought an X1 and I got one of those infamous week 44 X1 models. I use it to keep on top of my emails and keeping in touch with clients, GPS etc. as I am not always near a computer. I was very happy with it and even convinced several of my colleagues to get an X1, half of whom have started having issues with their phones (that's another story).
My case finally cracked after 8 months despite me taking extra care of it. So I contacted X1 dedicated service. They told me to contact my point of sale first (defeats the purpose of being dedicated service). So I did that, got a service order number and sent my phone in by post to the service repair place and got it back in around 10 days. Now this was just before I went to London for a business trip and I should have taken a closer look at the phone. When I arrived in London, I noticed that there was a chunk missing from chrome part of the chassis itself. This was where someone would insert a tool to open the case or something. I was pissed! How can you send a phone back damaged to a customer? To add insult to injury the GPS refused to connect to a satellite!!! I resorted to using paper maps, something I wanted to avoid, oh well...
After getting back from London, I contact X1 dedicated service again, this time no reply from them. So I write to the general SE supports describing the events. After a good part of a week, I get a reply telling me to contact the point of sale again. So after a week as I was too busy I again contact my point of sale, get a repair order and send it in to the service depot. The very next day somebody from SE calls me (he wont give me a direct number or email to reply btw) and says, send it to us and we we will ship you a new phone. I told him the service depot has it and to contact them. The service depot contacts me saying they have fixed my phone and are going to send it back. Next day same dude from SE says they told the service depot to send it back to them so they can send me a new phone.
So finally at the end of the week same guy from SE calls and says he has shipping confirmation from DHL and I will have my phone on Monday. So, seeing as I deal with DHL a lot, they always show up first thing in the morning. So I stayed home and waited on Monday morning and thought to myself I can do my stuff in the afternoon, after lunch still no DHL! I have to write to the general SE email as that guy refused to give his email or number, and have to wait again! After 4pm, he says by email "sorry for the confusion but it was sent by regular post" and then gives me a tracking number. The parcel was scanned in 2 hours before he emailed me, it was never sent on Friday. How could he even say that he has shipment confirmation when he it has clearly not even been sent out on Friday??? Thanks for wasting my entire day, I waited for DHL getting pissed at DHL when it wasn't even sent via DHL! Does it stop here? Nope!
I tracked the package and went personally to the post office depot the next day and picked it up myself as I did not want to wait yet another day for it to arrive. So what did I get in the mail? An X1 alright... a WEEK 40 model and it had greasy finger prints on it, it had dust and fuzz in every crevice and even in the headphone jack which also had scratches in and around it! Further more I checked the service info and it has several hours of incoming and outgoing calls shown. New phone my ass! This phone is refurbished! Lie after lie in this situation!
DEDICATED SERVICE? To what, dedicate yourselves to screwing people over? The X1 is supposed to be a flagship model and it carries the price tag with it, I deserved better than this! I scoured the net and I am not the only one who got a refurb despite being "promised" a new phone after similar issues.
Shame on you Sony Ericsson! You have lost a loyal fan and I will tell everyone who asks me if they should get the X2 to steer clear of SE and share my experiences with them.

Can you recommend a new phone for me or something then? is the Touch Pro 2 good?
because i mean the X2 has exclusitivity with vodafone... and i have just had endless problems with both.
But i can honestly say the x2 does look like a very good device, they've clearly changed a lot over the x1 and i am actually considering getting it :S
But its just their lack of support that deters me...
and after reading your story, i mean, they literally lied to you and thats just not on.

I see they lied to you as well, must be standard protocol or something... shame shame SE (although in your case it was Voda?).
I am looking at HTC right now, but seeing as the X1 was built by them I am wondering about that as well... LOL! Not sure what to pick. I will take my time and just wait to see what hits the market. The X10 will surely prompt the other guys to make one with a faster processor as well. We will have to see...

True, but that could be because they are competing in a smaller market now. All the other players are going over to Android. Which again SE will join late in the game.
Didn't read the whole text but, there are two main reasons for me:
1. Same hardware/specs as X1.
2. No XDA support, therefore no custom ROMs from here.
It's like having an X1 with no XDA community behind it.
why don't you take some photos of the "new" phone they sent you and post them here then email SE with the link to this thread?
i'm not getting an X2 also as i lost faith in SE "i need a flexcable for my X1 and it was out of stock in the entire country and could be found only in one place which is so expensive!", plus no XDA-Developers Support.
Meh not to mention SE's super slow due on new phones... the X1 took one whole year that's one screw up management... By the time X2 and X10 out everyone else beat it by miles, at that time only sore pitty SE fan like me will still go after them for double the price of other competitor models which already considerbly 'old' at that time... SE lost money for a reason not mainly because of the global economic downturn...

I could take pictures, but it was a dirty older phone. As it sits it just looks like another used X1. However...
Here is a picture of the damage when it was returned (after being repaired) the first time.
SE has a copy of this picture, I sent to them when I made the first complaint-
i bet many of us on xda have at somepoint had each others phones since SE seems to be sending out damaged ones that got sent back

LOL! You know... that is a very strong possibility...
Heres my story,
I had my x1 for 7 months (and I never dropped it), in this time the surface of the D-Pad came off in some places even though i havent used it to often. well... than came the basic crack in the case and I brought it to my phone provider, they said they will send it to SE and SE will fix it. they gave me an white W200i as replacement -.-. x1 came back 2 weeks later with a new case but D-Pad and batterycover not replaced. i told the guys to replace it but they just didn't do it.
But somehow i can't be mad @ SE and if i had the money i would buy the x2 right when it comes out.

Yeah, the dpad area of mine was chipped away as well.
If you cant be mad at someone for not doing something you asked them to do, you must be very forgiving.
Hi
Even though, I haven't had a single crack so far, I have several scratches on the battery cover. I'm confident that one day I will have to send my phone for replacement (or just buy a new cover) because of breakage in the housing. This very day I will order another Sony Ericsson phone - either X2 or X10 or XXX (no pun ). Although I'm disappointed of the support @ SE, I really like their phones - Xperia is the first phone I could have complaints for. To be honest - I can't blame SE for a single failure till now - therefore I still believe in them and I'd buy their phones in future. Of course, my patience is not endless, but for now they still have a true fan.
Cheers
X1 built by HTC, what about X2?
Hi guys,
As far as I know the X1 was built by HTC (hence being here at XDA), with SE only doing the software touches.
I've had SE phones for years (P-series, and also the K-series ones for camera.) I went for the X1 because I wanted to use my phone more for web, email, etc. and because of my experience with SE.
To date I've been lucky. The only problem I've had with the phone is a crack on the chrome plastic from where I dropped it but I'd be concerned about going for the X2 given the X1 build quality issues.
Do we know if SE or HTC are building the X2? If its SE then it might have better build quality, if its HTC then it could be the X1 all over again! HTC have a history of producing excellent phone functionality but questionable build quality and I do wonder if the X1 has just fallen foul of that... if X2 is made by SE then it could be a good, reliable and well built piece of kit!

built by a side company of foxconn. so build quality should be very good.
put foxconn on wikipedia and u will see they make a lot of famous top end products,
Even i had(still having) a similar problem. My phone's screen stopped working. First i sent an e-mail to X1 support about this, no one replied (it has been 3 weeks now and still no reply), after that i tried calling on the X1 support no an no one picks it up. Then i searched for a service center near my place(the service center which i knew is now closed). I gave it to them, its been more than a week now and the phone is till with them and they say it will take 10 more days for the parts to arrive.
UPDATE:
I got a response my phone and email from the Customer Service Manager for this region.
On behalf of Sony Ericsson he apologized for the way that my case was handled and said that they take these kinds of issues very seriously etc.
As the replacement phone is working, they are not going to send me a new one. If this one fails we can address it then.
(I knew that was coming)
Will I buy another SE product again? We will see...

should I get rid of my x10i?

I've been a se fan for years right from the t68i, I've enjoyed se phones right up until the x1i, Satios, x10i. se always seem to leave things out which are common knowledge or rushed out phones even though they were announced yonks ago. tediously slow at getting firmware out. I thought I'd give se one last chance as the x10 looked like se were back on the ball.
first few weeks of having the x10 I was amazed by it, but now the broken software and multitouch in games and a few other nags has made me fed up with it.
the last draw was today announcement of mspot, the app that enables you to upload your music library to the cloud, but of course its for 2.1 and along with Twitter and the best games!
also a few weeks back in typical se fasion se announced there would be a new firmware in a few weeks that fixes battery life and other things, well where the tool is it?
no multitouch (to be fair to se I did expect a flagship phone to be multitouch)
huge battery drains
broken photo tagging
slow timescape
none of the good games or apps
late promised firmware.
I think this is the last se phone ill buy, been burned too many times now.
rant over....

some buy them to stay connected.
Some buy them because they look great.

If is not the phone for YOU, sell it.
It's funny that you used you X10 to write your post!! (just joking with you)
Come on... don't be too pessimistic and remember that every device has some bugs
To end your misery I'm willing to get rid of the X10 for you at no charge. My address is...
certainly you should get rid of it now
Haven't you got rid of your X10 yet hoss ????
The X10 is the best phone I have ever had... I've had a few !
I actually wish I had enough money to buy new phones each week as many on this forum seem to have. But seriously, changing to a new phone, exporting contacts, downloading apps, configuring etc.... I have better things to do with my life.

and u wont knw mybe the update after that keeps coming just stik to it and use it for what u have time will pass u will be happy u didnt sell it se will come to a point and make x10 one great phone .... coming from the word of HOPE
the main problem with x10 is it easily scratches (not screen ,the surround like side mirrors) and that it is impossible to be rooted
This phone was just an investment to me,
I nearly had it for free and it boast a high trade-in value in Singapore.
If the ROM could enable the X10 ( 4 MFLOPS ) to be nearly as good as the nexus one( 37 MFLOPS ), then I may keep it afterall - that is with Android 2.2
And if the battery could be way better, I would remove SE from my blacklist

App Request. Urgent Devs!! [Humor]

Since I got my Xperia X10, I have been following xda forum quiet regularly. I started to notice a trend in the posts of Xperia X10 threads. This trend is commonly known as Kubler-Ross model or "5 stages of grief".
1st Stage: Denial- "No we have Multitouch..........it just needs to be rooted"
2nd Stage: Anger- "F** SE, A**h**e SE, I will never buy their products etc...."
3rd Stage: Bargaining- "OK if Paul starts working on it then we can have the root"
4th Stage: Depression- "I will not be fooled by SE again, going to HTC next time...." or "Iphone has a good operating system"
5th Stage: Aceptance-"Well it does what the box says......"
I am currently between 3 and 4, but there are lots of ppl in stage 2. And they are cursing each other in Android Developement thread. I am not sure how much developement has been done but I can see very well the stages of grief going on. This is becoming a serious issue now
I think the dev should just stop whatever they are doing and make an app, which just say "Everything is OK, it's JUST a phone".
Non devs please state your stage of grief. Only by consulting and more discussing about your stage of grief, will make you feel better. So please write your stage and how many time you click on refresh and how is this effecting your life
Hi, my name is Bikram. I press the refresh buttom atleast 4 times within an hour. This is making me unproductive at job.
rofl, I can't believe i just read that post. stage 3
isn't it an achievement SE made this trend?
since it's not happening anywhere but SE thread so i am supposed this is SE problem not we user
anyway i am 2,3,4

haha, great thread!
i'm at a quasi-state 4. I'm still an SE fan, but since I'm with T-Mobile and need a good Android with the 1700 band, I'm getting my first non-SE phone ever, and picking up a Nexus One.
If SE learns from it's mistakes about skimping on hardware and taking ages for software updates, and makes a good X10 successor, I'll be more than happy to give SE another shot.

You might be right, but let's be honest--if (a big if) SE decided to change it's frustrating ways and really knock it out of the park on a future Android phone, won't all of us be flocking to get it and flaunting our SE fan credentials?
I'll stay an SE fan, but with Froyo out and Gingerbread coming in Q4, and Nexus One being a rooted and well supported phone, I have to put practicalities above brand loyalty when it comes to shelling out $500+.
I'm between 4 & 5. Accepting its comfortably the best phone i ever owned. With equal measure of annoyance that SE have ' gone dark' on us. Ace thread by the way!

i have no idea how much time you been frustrating with SE but for me i already experienced on w960 and x1 now x10 is the third time they made a nice looking and decent hardware device out of the competition because they took a hell of long time to develope their horrible os before they launch the product and have no problem giving their so called flagship product out there with unbearable cripple which is cause by software issue.
so if you ask me do i think they will do it again the next time?
i think they'll not even hesitate to do so!
I guess there is another stage after 5 for ppl waiting 2.2 and other cool things that can make x10 the perfect phone
Mugur
http://mugur-ionescu.ro/tag/xperia
I think i skiped all those stages, I've been a long term fan of SE and accept them even with their many failings! As for the x10 i love it, its been a while since i've had a touch screen phone (had a p900 then went to candybar phones for a while) so i'm enjoying being back and having a weath of apps at my fingertips. I bought the phone fully aware that it was 1.6 and that SE said it would be in q4 before the big update comes (which I take to mean 'at some time after q4', I've been with se way too long to beleive a definate when they give it!) so i'm happy with my purchase.
As for issues and bugs its had this is all standard stuff with a new anything, especially when its something new for the company too, its something you have to accept as an alpha consumer otherwise you will drive yourself mad with frustration!
Stage two and I'm sending the bill for my anger management classes to SE lol. I hit refresh more times than I can count in a day (at least a dozen times during my morning b m). I need help, I'm going to go for addictions counselling tomorrow. They think I need to go through the 12 step program. It's just hard admitting I have a problem.

Well, i'm probably stage 5 from the beginning.
I knew what i'll buy.
What i don't like about SE?
They are slow as a donkey riding a pig.
What i don't like about N1? Is made by HTC.
What i don't like about HTC? Well, is HTC.
I wish i could buy the Motoroi or Galaxy S had at least a flash light like X10
oh crap, looks like I hit stage 4, I was actually impressed with apples updates in ios4 I can't believe I actually considered owning one of those useless idevices again
stage 4 ,but i already have htc phone but windows os not android (hd2)
I know full well what to expect from SE after owning the X1 and X2. The X2 is on it's way back now and I am getting an x10 in return. Heck if I could get my money back I would! However, the X10 is one sexy looking phone, you gotta give it that.
I did a lot of research on what the X10 can and can't do, and I am prepared for that, so I wont get angry. Trust me, it's nothing compared to MR1 on the X2... ugh! I would have gone with another brand based on that alone, but we can only hope the updates come complete and pre-tested for the X10. After the mess they made on the X2, I am sure they want to take their time to release the latest updates.
Multi touch? who knows, maybe SE is limiting multi touch on purpose to keep Apple off their lawsuit radar
I have been in stage 5 since a month before i even got it, couse, like iv'e said on several threads here hating everyting, i knew what i was paying for couse i did my homework. And one can not just assume root comes to every device. I happy with my phone, yet though i am starting to get really confused about the so called "may upgrade" and will it contain onefinger-pinch-zoom? I hope so. Cheers!

Ditching SE if no froyo/cracked bootloader to X10 ??

After being heard about such an awful official announcement made by such a trusted company like SE, we, all the SE customers for decades have broke trust on SE for its cheap marketting tricks and don't-give-a-damm-to-the-customers attitude of SE. So, I hope this thread can show the newbies how cunning SE can be and how their valuable toys can effect with SE's poor support to the customers. Despite being state-of-the-art technology used in X10 Arc, I wanna know how many wounded SE customers want to ditch SE here on because atleast this thread should help the potential buyers of X10 Arc in deciding whether to go for X10 Arc or save themselves from being a victim of SE once again.
So, Guys if you are one of those victims of X10/X10mini/X8 .etc , Let us show SE how much its poor decision can cost, Show them how many of us will ditch SE here on.
I'm gonna ditch SE for Apple. Apple iphone 3g despite being 3 years old , It has received all the support for so long until the hardware limits were reached , This is what called True software support. I really admire apple for this dedication to customer's satisfaction and I'm thinking to ditch SE for Apple. My next phone will be iPhone 5 without any doubts!

It was such a shame as the design and build were solid. I ended up trading it in for a desire and now I have a dhd.
I check back in with this forum from time to time, and realise that selling the x10 was the right decision (for me at least) , as both desire and dhd are able to run both 2.2 and 2.3(unofficially). They also have the features that we were told the x10 was to get but never did. However I still find them ugly by comparison.
The arc does look like an impressive piece of kit, but so do LG and Moto's 2011offerings. Also with the developments planned for android this year, I'm not sure if I want to be burned again by SE.
Their OS update offerings were not well timed!
Closing this thread as its completely pointless

Thanks and goodbye

I would like to thank everyone who helped me with the x10 feedbacks, i know u guys did it to avoid me suffering on SE hands what u guys suffered. I sent the X10 package back, and paid the difference of an Galaxy S t959, that i think i cant go wrong.
I let my best wish for you guys, and at least u made SE lose one customer, even before buying the phone.
Thanks again. Ruben

Sorry to hear the negativity scared you off It is a great phone.. I haven't used the samsung though so I can't comment, but at least you will probably actually get updates lol
Did you look at the Arc, or are you turned off on SE in general? Although you wouldn't know it by looking in the xda forums, but SE is supporting the X10 like any other Android. It seems standard in the industry that every Android phone gets ONE major OS upgrade, and other smaller ones along the way. The X10 just happens to have already gotten its update, while Android released two new updates in the meantime, making our new update already dated. Android shouldn't be releasing updates this fast in the future, and we've all (including SE) learned our lesson about getting a phone with a dated OS to start with.
Also, for future knowledge in the Galaxy forums regarding posting etiquette....You should have posted your farewell in the other thread you already started on this subject called "Hi", because this is not a new topic or discussion. Only start a new thread as a last resort.Especially ones that are not useful to other members. You may think you are saving yourself time by starting a new thread, but instead you are taking time from everyone else by filling the forums with more fluff for people to filter through.
Please don't take this the wrong way. Trust me, other people won't be as polite about it. In fact they can be rude and degrading, but the point is valid. In order for everyone to enjoy xda, we all need to do our part to keep it clean, organized, and useful.
For a full description of xda rules on posting read the stickie titled something like "Stop!!! Thinking about posting? Read this first!!! "
Goodbye. I'm sure your experiences with the Galaxy will be a lot better than what you would of have with the X10. However, it is for certain, once everything is cracked and sorted out, the X10 *will* be considered a great phone compared to others
If it weren't for XDA the X10 would be a pile of crap. Fortunately there are some great people here who have released much of the X10's potential, unlike SE.

How can u recommend Arc to an X10's unsatisfied user? both are basically the same and SE must be the loser here. X10 is a good phone probably yes but I cannot understand yet what happen to the idiot led light feature still not flashing like on my old nokia N80... Htc g1 was upgraded something from 1.5 to 2.2 passing through revisions and it seem 2.3 is next to be the released.... I'm trying to be realist nothing more. I've an x10 just because there wasn't option to buy another brand but I will never buy Arc even when SE would announce about permanent Os upgrades. If you want me to buy another SE device upgrade X10 first, then when it get outdated I will buy next generation Xperia may be dualcore or later.

He wasn't an unsatisfied user. He returned his X10 new after asking for advice here on xda. I myself said that while I LOVE my X10a, I wouldn't get one this late in the game unless he gets a new phone every 6 months because of how fast this technology is developing.
Thanks to the OP starting a new thread to say "goodbye", you missed the whole conversation in his other thread titled "Hi" started just a few days ago....
So too bad. This is not another bash SE thread, but good try
Once the bootloader is cracked, you will want an X10

It is never too late to talk about SE idiotic politics to get people scared to stay with them... You have suggested Arc and stated about every company is offering same upgrade service, it wasn't true, it was too bad and a mere good try.

OK, well it's a first. HTC should be setting this new standard. They have the longest and best relationship with Google. HTC manufacturers phones for them.
I will say good bye to x10 if just know which phone better. Just have to wait for experts to review new arc, neo, pro.
GN Multimedia - X10i
And being picky.. Neither of those phones have yet had the upgrades you mentioned.. So the answer is still 'none'! HTC should be ahead of the curve though.. They've been in this game longer Than anyone else.

Moto Atrix
Smart man! As a consumer, you deserve freedom in the complete context and spirit of open source, even by law are supposedly guaranteed this right in terms of firmware, from ignition (power up the rom, boot load the firmware) to application functionality and presentation, you should be able to do what you will to YOUR phone, being it is an Open source device - primary selling point.
HTC, Motorola and others do this very well, so much better! Atrix has my money with the Tegra 2 dual core, 48gb storage, Gorilla glass, 1080p recording and playback and that awesome netbook to dock the device with running gnome abd from what I understand, virtual box and in effect, OS/X or Windows 7!
Stick your half pie camera and bravia marketing crap in your tight pie holes Sony! If I want a camera, I can get one that is a zillion times better than a phone for a lot less than your Arc, Neo, Pro or Play... haha ****a!
Sony lack vision to grasp open source. They have no place in Android and anyone with half a clue, knows this +1
