T-Mobile USA MMS? - Quantum General

Hello,
I just got an AT&T LG Quantum that is unlocked and everything. I can't seem to get the MMS working though. I don't know if anyone else has found a solution but here is what I've tried:
Gotten into the MFG menu and enabled ADC and attempted to set the network profile but I don't see T-Mobile USA on the list anywhere.
I then tried jailbreaking the phone to try a network config tool that was only for Samsung phones (Surprise, surprise, it didn't work )
Then I installed a registry editor and looked for the appropriate registry setting to modify and change, but the key was locked.
Obviously the LG App doesn't work for hardly anything but I tried it to no avail nonetheless.
Has anyone successfully gotten MMS to work on a Quantum on T-Mobile USA? Or am I out of luck until MS makes MMS settings editable?

I feel your pain! I snagged a Quantum (AT&T) for my wife for Valentine's Day. Got it unlocked and thought we were home free (works great on T-Mobile). Only today did she ask me to see what was up with the MMS - bad news. So far, I have found no fix (and have gone down the same road /w the MFG menu, etc). Hope someone more skilled than myself can find an aswer for us soon...

In the marketplace, there's a network configuration program. Have you tried playing with that at all?

After you enable the ADC, did you try resetting the phone?

did anyone have any luck getting the MMS working??? I have been trying everything and nothing is working

OK I got my AT&T working with MMS here in New Zealand after much painstaking investigation. Here's what I did:
1. Unlock the MFG app and log in to it. (probably best to dev unlock and prevent relock here while you are at it). Details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021636
2. Make sure you are updated to Nodo update to have the latest carrier network provider files. T-mobile users must do this otherwise the files wont be there.
3. In MFG App, Enable ADC in the "engineer menu" under "other settings"
4. go to "set network profiles", if there are no network profiles in the box on the lower half of the page then observe the 2 boxes just above it, one is called MCC and one is called MNC.
5. You need to type in the correct numbers for your provider in these boxes. I de-compiled a flash rom and found out what these all are, you can also find out what they all are by browsing the windows directory of your phone and look for the provider XML files. In the file name of the XML file for your provider should be 2 numbers like this:
__PROV__TMU_US_310_800_ENG.xml
This is a T-Mobile US network provider file. The 2 numbers are MCC: 310 and MNC: 800
Only thing is, you T-mobile guys have a lot of XML files and I dont know which is right for each of you so you will just have to try them one by one until you find what works. T-Mobile US is always MCC: 310 but MNC is different for different areas/states I guess. Here are the numbers for T-mobile:
MCC: 310 MNC: 160
MCC: 310 MNC: 200
MCC: 310 MNC: 210
MCC: 310 MNC: 220
MCC: 310 MNC: 230
MCC: 310 MNC: 240
MCC: 310 MNC: 250
MCC: 310 MNC: 260
MCC: 310 MNC: 270
MCC: 310 MNC: 300
MCC: 310 MNC: 310
MCC: 310 MNC: 490
MCC: 310 MNC: 530
MCC: 310 MNC: 580
MCC: 310 MNC: 590
MCC: 310 MNC: 640
MCC: 310 MNC: 660
MCC: 310 MNC: 800
So after you put in the two numbers, hit find and in the below box a provider config file will come up. Select it and your phone will now switch profiles and your MMS should now work, assuming you have the right provider config file. Hope this helps you lot.

Works!
Confirmed, the mcc mnc settings worked for me in germany:
simyo or rather eplus settings : MCC: 262
MNC: 03
nice finally...

This worked for me in Mexico =)

Still not working...
Hey all,
I have done everything up here including debranding my quantum and i still can't get mms to work. I even called t mobile for my mnc code, as well as individually tested all of the codes for tmobile by hand. I had it working before a hard reset. And I just don't get why it won't work?
Any suggestions?
-Urzu

I am using simple mobile which is basically tmobile back link I spoke to them and they said that I had to change my mmsc settings but not sure how to do this but this is the settings hope they help
mmsc = 10.165.193.23/mms/wadenc
mms prop c = 216.155.165.50
mms port = 8080

the config from the following link should work if it is a contact T-mobile plan
r-tel.net/forum.html#/20120405/lg-c900-no-cell-data-1460613/
down in the bottom on the page is the T-Mobile USA prov file
not sure if that info help you out but take a look.

Easiest solution (though perhaps not the best) is to master clear the phone in the about menu in settings. Mine had a problem with MMS as well because I booted the phone without the tmobile sim card in it. I tried all of the things others have said to get it to work, but in the end, this is what did it.
1. make sure tmobile sim card is in the phone.
2. Do a master clear/reset (this will wipe all apps, SMS etc....be warned)
3. Phone will reboot. Let the phone do its initial setup
4. Connect to wifi, go to LG Apps store, and download "Network Setup"
5. Run network setup. It will reboot the device.
You should be good to go after this. Hope it helps. Like I said, this may not be the best solution, but it IS the only one that worked correctly for me.
The right provisional XML file (at least for me) was: TMU_US_310_260

Does anyone have any tips on this? I bought an LG Quantum this week and after spending a lot of time searching, resetting, etc, no luck getting MMS to work either. Changed config files, using 310-260 which should be the appropriate network file and no luck.
Yes I can flash a phone, so my tech knowledge is at least adequate. I had picture messaging working on a flashed HTC HD2 to Win7, but that was over a year ago, and I reflashed back to an ICS android ROM.
Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Update
Somehow after fiddling with this thing..removing branding, updating to Windows 'Tango', my MMS is now working! My data settings are
active network: T-Mobile
data connection: On
data roaming options: don't roam (I definitely changed this this afternoon)
Network selection: T-Mobile...
Using the MFG menu ##634# send then 277634#*# this is what it shows
Set network profile: it lists current network as TMU_US_310_260_ENG.xml
Set ADC: On
Current APN: epc.tmobile.com
Go figure. Glad it's working...

I had mms working, then it randomly stopped. D:
i eventually flashed the c900k firmware (since it adds internet tethering and fixes the random rebooting) and in the MFG app the ADC option is not there anymore. How can i fix this?
Im using tmobile (US) and last it worked the mcc310 mnc260 xml was what i used

Thanks for posting this. After setting the XML to 310 260, I needed to follow this instruction as well to get my MMS going. You need to do both.

Mine is the same but APN is epc.tmobile.com & MCC is 310. Does location change this?
No you are absolutely correct, wrong info on my part.
I will have to start double checking before I post.
Hmm... As of right now, I have default settings and it cycles through GPRS, E, and 3G, and even no data connection. Just very weird... I did erase the server "*" and the 4 characters under password and that didn't do anything. My MCC is 310 and MNC is 260. South Florida (if that matters)
Hmm upgrade your SIM?
I would go to the store and see if they can let them know tech support sent you. I've seend this fix 3G issues. Make sure you do have the android data plan and use epc.tmobile apn i posted with the fixes in the following post.
i'm curious, since it was mentioned about 25(30) plan
im grandfathered in to the 5.99 and the "hack" still works on my winmo phones for unlimited. reason i havent really wanted to update is cause i'm rarely on 3g i always get edge access (i dont have a nexus one yet, hence my question here). if i'm only getting edge in my area (i dont have the option for discount so going with full price on n1) any major drawbacks to not getting the 25/30$ plan?

Great hints, thank you !

Hi romaink, sorry for the late response. according to simple mobiles website it should be:
MCC: 310 MNC: 260
This is a T-mobile settings file and hopefully it works for you. If it does not work then let me know and I'll see if I can create a custom settings file with the correct simple mobile settings.
Thanks, but...
Still doesn't work. Text messages work fine, but still can't send/receive mms msgs. I was hoping LG would have released an updated app to fix this, but it looks like that won't happen. Thanks for the info
The easiest way is to call your provider and ask them if they have OTA push messaging available. Most do. If they do, they can push the provisioning doc to your phone to add the xml document to allow you to use mms. If you complain enough and they have OTA capabilities, they will do it. But if they dont... and you are not in the already on there XML files, MMS will not work. That simple.
I finally got my MMS working using the OP instructions and the MCC & MNC codes listed on this wikipedia page:
MMC (Mobile Country Code) & MNC (Mobile Network Code) List
I plugged my appropriate country and network code. And voila it was working.
Thank you OP.
I Have a LG c900 AT&T, I took the sim card from my nokia e71 (straight talk) and I cant find the correct MCC MNC code that works...
Unable to get MMS to work on C900 quantum from AT&T, now with T-Mobile

Help with step 1
Hello Assault88, thank you for your post. I was wondering what you mean in step 1, is the MFG App, an app you get on the windows mobile market? or where can I get it? the link you point to is broken http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1021636
Im trying to set this phone on Simple Mobile. and although Simple Mobile does provide OTA programming, it is not available for this phone. I cant even get the internet to work. any help will be appreciated, thanks.
Lg c900 no cell data
I have a LG Quantum an I can't get the Cell data to work with Straight Talk (MVNO-ATT-US).
I already tried a few trick but just doesn't want to work.
I know I cant make the MMS to work because is no settings for it and honestly I don't care but I cant make it to work the data either.
Reading on forums the data should work with the following settings:
NAME straight talk
APN: att.mvno
PROXY: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
PORT: 80
... but doesn't. has anybody the same problem? how you fix it?
I fixed it with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16363034&postcount=3
thanks but no luck. I'm thinking to flash the phone, it may be something wrong with it.
this is what I did in the mean time.
I saved the PROV XML file from my phone
__PROV__ATT_US_310_410_ENG.xml
and I modified with the straight talk info but i'm not sure if is ok.
__PROV__ATTS_US_310_410_ENG.xml (this is after I renamed) and I can load it from MFG app and view it in the "View current profile" just is not working.
I saved an detailed list of the xml prov files on the following link
r-tel.net/forum.html#/20120405/lg-c900-no-cell-data-1460613
thanks,
PS:
I tested the phone with a T-Mobile sim card and the internet worked out of the box (in EDGE mode) so i thing the phone is OK.
No luck with Straight Talk yet
Did you ever get the C900 working with Straight Talk? I have the same MMS issue. Data works OK.
What tools did you use to get the file from the phone to the pc, edit it and send it back. Thanks.
no, not yet. I'm not sure if I modify the xml file in the right way.
any way I'm still working on it.
to answer for your question how I edit the prov file ? on the same page at r-tel.net/forum.html#/20120405/lg-c900-no-cell-data-1460613/
I describe a few steps. hopefully somebody is gone figure out the right way to set the data on the phone (LG Quantum @ ATT)
if anybody has a working setup please feel free to post the complete settings.
thanks and good luck.
Quantum MMS
Thanks for replying.
I read your xml file and edit on the other site.
My question was how were you able to get that XML file from the phone, edit it and get it back on the phone.
Thanks
"Setting was failed (Access denied or invalid argument)"...on Quantum 7, the XML files were found with the right countrycode 222 88 , but this is what I got when ii click on the xml file :-(
I used this tool "WP7 Root Tools" this gives you access to the system files on the phone.
I installed from this site (wp-bazaar.com/Bazaar/Default.aspx) you have all the info what you need and how to install the application (I think this is the easiest way).
once you have the WP7 Root Tools on your phone you will understand those steps listed on the r-tel web site.
---------- Post added at 11:36 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:35 AM ----------
Diomorgan,
not sure why you get the invalid argument, is your phone unlocked?
honestly I was playing only with this LG Quantum so I not to familiar with other phones.
I'm just trying to figure out how to get cell data on my phone I don't even care about MMS all I need is net and emails.
Thanks for the info. Hopefully we can get it working!

[Q] Having trouble with APN setting for T-Mobile

I'm using an AT&T sim card and T-Mobile as my $15/mo unlimited data provider.
I have no idea how the third party store did it, but it worked before I got rid of WM6.5.
After rooting it to HyperDroid-CM7-v2.1.0[a2sd+][CyanogenMod7 LEO 2.3.4], the APN defaults to ATT with no other option. I have manually inserted a combination of settings as follows:
Name: T-Mobile US
APN: epc.tmobile.com or wap.voicestream.com or
Proxy: 216.165.155.050 or 216.155.165.050
Port: 8080
MMSC: http ://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc or http: //216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy: 216.165.155.050 or 216.165.155.50 or 216.155.165.50
MMS Port: 8080
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
After entering all that I either press the back key or the window key to save, but they always end up disappearing. One thing I noticed is if I don't change the MNC to 260 and leaving it at default (410), the APN I entered will stay selected. I selected and un-selected the Data enable option for each of the combination with no luck of access to the internet. Hitting reset to default would leave only ATT (wap.cingular) as the only option.
Long story short:
Using AT&T for minutes and T-Mobile for data.
Worked before rooting.
New APN settings disappear if is MNC: 260
Cannot access T-Mobile's data plan.
Side note:
Wi-fi still works
If anyone has any insight to this problem it would be much appreciated!

Edit:
Turns out the third party store has me signed up for AT&T's $15 Unlimited Data Plan for Non-Smart Phones since the HD2 is not part of AT&T's smartphone selection.
Thanks for the help everyone!
Hello. I have no idea why your internet could have worked from the get-go. I have never heard of this setup before. All I can say are that the settings are OK but again, I dont understand how that could work. Sorry Im not more help.
That's fine. I was hoping to have this problem solved before resorting to go to the 3rd party store.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
maybe if you remove the AT&T APN completely (long press - delete) then enter in the t-mo one?
I just tried removing AT&T but the new settings don't stay whenever I change MNC to 260.

Solution for MMS sending difficulties anyone?

Wheel just keeps a spinnin and spinnin!
Wonder if it has to do with apn settings? They do indicate mms and Internet on the bottom setting.
Any suggestions appreciated? Who wants to be able to create these cool notes and not be able to send??
whats your plan, per or post pay, and what apn settings did you use, there are a lot of threads which address this.
I have a GoPhone $50 unltd.with apns suggested for this.
I DID walk in to att with my Note, and said cust service suggested I ask for a new sim cars and got a 4G card (vs the designated GoPhone) one, and that's when the problems started now that I think about it.
So my apn needs might have changed.
Ill have to play around with them.
Network speeds are way better...just no MMS.

definitely do not disclose to att that you have a smartphone.
I have the 50/month unlimited voice/text/web/data gophone att plan and my speeds are very good. i cant compare to network speed but im coming from tmous3g and it is close.
i registered the sim card in an older nokia e72, then once it worked fully, i swapped it into my gnote. not sure if att will catch the data usage and ding me for the overage as if it were a smartphone, but until that happens this is a brilliant workaround.

I'm also on AT&T and for some reason my APN has changed a couple of times on it's own. . In fact it just happened earlier today and I had the exact same problem as you. For some reason the MMS port was blank so I changed that back to 80. Also there was info in the username and password and I deleted both out. It worked again right after I made those changes.
I can give you the rest of my settings if those changes don't work for you. I'm using the settings that have been posted for AT&T unlimited data.
I copied the settings out of my brothers cappy, and finally got MMS working. Settings in the other thread weren't working for me. Im getting 3-7Mbs down and a MB up. Im post paid, with a 4G sim and so called "unlimited data".
