Connecting to router with hidden ssid

I can't be the only SGS user who has a router with a non-broadcasting ssid, so how did you guys get it to connect? I looked up the problem with google and it's a known android problem. There doesn't seem to be a general fix for it.
My ssid is hidden and I have no problems connecting to my wifi at home.
Have an hidden essid too, and no problemes connecting to it
Really? Must be my router then, okay. Thanks for the replies.
Make sure you typing in the ssid exactly as it is in the router remembering that it's case sensitive, also remember to select your security type correctly as well. Also make sure you're not filtering the mac addresses of the devices you allow on your network..

Everything was correct. It connected just fine with the ssid visible, but as soon as I made it invisible, it would no longer connect.
I have the same problem...
My FW is JH1 (Hong Kong)
Please help...
Also had that problem in the beginning..but went away when flashed JG5.. (Current fw JM5 also ok) ..read that there is also an app on market that can be used..look for ssid enabler or hidden ssid..or something like that
You shouldn't have a problem connecting to a hidden network but you have to manually connect everytime. Android does not have a "connect even when not broadcasting" option, so your phone will not automatically connect to your network when in range. Every time you want to connect you have to enter in the connection details.
Try the app called Hidden SSID Enabler. It worked for some others:

Are you sure about the setting in your router? Like Intratech wrote about the MAC filter? If you make it invisble and it dont make connect with the router I guess you havent given the router your PHONE wifi MAC address, if you have the mac adresses activated you must do that.
i had this problem too,
i entered in the correct ssid ID and password but it would get stuck on attempting to connect. If I enabling SSID broadcasting then i can connect using the identical setup.
I also have this issue. Running jg1 on bell.

This is not true in my case.
I had no issues connecting to my non-broadcasting network at work. And it automatically reconnects every morning when I walk in the door.
Bell samsung galaxy s vibrant.
Firmware 2.1_update 1
Base band i9000ugjg9
Build number eclair.ugjg9
I cannot connect to hidden ssid.
Router dlink dir-625
Mixed mode b/g/n
Wpa/wpa2
Mac filter off
If i try to connect while its hidden it just says "network remembered, not in range." If I then just un hide the network it connects fine right away.
Help, I really like this phone but there is also a very good reason for having my network hidden. Any one have any success after rooting the phone or something like that. Also hidden ssid enabler app does nothing when I hit the enable hidden ssid button. Thanks

I don't use Mac filtering, so that's not it. I think Mac filtering is over-kill in a home environment. If someone is really determined to break into your network, Mac filtering is not going to stop them. The same is true for hidden ssid, but at least that's not as annoying to set up and use.
Turn off WPS and Push button
I had simular problems letting Router configure Network using WPS and WPS Push button.
After you've aadded the network manually, under manage networks, modify network, hit menu, then hit advanced, uncheck push and WPS
No problems after that.
Something to try.
Did people here try hidden SSID enabler app yet?

Can I ask what brand of router you're using? Is it a Dlink? I'm on JG1 as well and have the same issue.

Wifi Works At Outside Wifi Hotspots but stopped working at home wifi... Please Help..

My HTC Desire HD Wifi has ALWAYS been working at my home wifi network.
Over the last few weeks, it has stopped working for no apparent reason. My pc as well as 3 other laptops work perfectly fine...
When I try to connect to my own wifi network at home now, it REFUSES to obtain an ip address and simply keeps disconnecting...
It however works fine elsewhere....
Anyway I can fix this problem or a simple way to manually connect to my home wifi network?
Thanks in advance...
hi
Have you checked that your security settings are the same on the router? also try and reset the router i.e. unplug for 2 mins blah blah. I know the lappys are working fine but this is what I would do.
I use to have issues like this with my HTC Hero, how i resolved it was by adding the phones MAC Code to the router software. Found in ( Security>Mac Filter ) depends on router! but is something like that. The down side is thou, you will have to add the mac codes from all your other devices to the router also, so everything connects to your ISP. It has the benifts of a more secure network.
Hmm, thanks for the possible answers so far.
It is strange. I just went to a friends house who also has wifi, I connected as normal.
It immediately connected with full reception. It seems that EVERYTHING connects and works as normal accept for my own home wifi...
I have tried resetting it, turning it on/off, it still does not want to obtain an ip address...
what is your make is your router?

It's Siemens Gigaset SE568
I would advise you against using MAC security on your router. Instead try to "forget" your home network (Settings->Wireless&networks->WiFi settings, then hold your home network and "Forget network") and then re-add your network. If this doesn't work try assigning static IP address (Settings->Wireless&networks->WiFi settings then tap "Menu" and "Advanced" but this will make connecting to hotspots more difficult (you'll have to uncheck the static address every time you need to connect).

Thanks for the response. I tried the forget wifi network and readd it, still a no go...
Strange how my phone works ANYWHERE & EVERYWHERE accept for my own home network...
It's not important/urgent so I'm not too bothered. I just think it's strange why it refuses to obtain an ip address...

Did you try to asign a static IP address (don't forget to test if you are connected to the internet after/if this seems to work)? Then you'll know if the problem is with the DHCP service or something else.
Ok. Sorry, I miss understood your problem! First is the router assigning ip address via dhcp as you don't state?. So the static ip method, You can try, Im here to help not say what to do and not to try..But as your pc and laptops are working I don't think the problem with dhcp.
A very quick test is to set your router to a open network and try to connect. Does this now work when you try to connect? We will work backwards to solve your problem. Also are you using a wizard cd software from the router? Or connecting to the router software via the internet explorer?
e.g 192.168.0.1 ? etc.

Just tried the static ip address, still refuses to obtain an ip address...
As for the router, it's automatic, we simply turn on wi-fi on the computer/laptop, click the wifi network, put password and simply connect as normal....
Strangely my HTC Desire HD refuses to obtain an ip.
A few days ago I went to my brothers friends house for the first time, turned on wi-fi on my phone, went onto his network, put the password and it immediately connected without any problem...
I'm 100% sure the problem lies with my old piece of **** router, well it's not mine but my fathers and I cannot exactly tell him to throw it out the window it's complete ****...
What can I do simply to make the router work with my phone?
Is there any new device in the network? If there is turn off all wifi devices restart the ap and try to reconnect.
Try changing the ap name too.
Hope it helps!

Last resort might be to factory reset the router, then putting all the settings (e.g. WPA keys) back on.

The simplest way is to set your router to a open network. Then no key is needed by the phone. The phone SHOULD connect with no problems.
You then no its a key issue.

+1
If it's not DHCP issue then it looks like authentication one. So wipe the router's configuration and if this doesn't work either I have another solution for you. It involves a hammer and an alibi

Can't log in to my own wifi

Hi my problem is that, I can't connect my own wifi network. It stops at "obtaining IP adress from...". My laptop can connect to it and i can connect with my phone to other wlan networks too. Could anyone help me? Thanks
Are you sure that you typed password correctly?
Maybe you have mac adress filtering?
I guess u have DCHP enabled and not static IP right? Try push and hold your network's name on the available networks list and then "Forget Network". Then rescan and try connecting. Sometimes it works.
go into you router and set the DNS?
hi the password is correct I've updated my phone to the latest version because i thought that maybe the software in my phone gone wrong.

log into your router (normally 192.168.1.1), and check if you have DCHP enabled.
or you could try rebooting your router and connecting your phone first then your laptop.
Hi I1ve tried both solutions but none of them works:/ I don't know what should i do. my girlfriend can't connect with her optimus too

sounds liek you router isn't assigning IP correctly, try restarting it and checking for firmware updates
Thanks for all now it's working (after a firmware update)

Cant obtain IP adress...please help.

FINALY today i get my galaxy s2. now you will have my suportt guys
But i have a "problem"
My router is set to WPA/WPA2 PSK...when i enter my password it will not connect, just obtaining ip adress.
when i manualy put my mobile's MAC adress in router then its working, but its scaning every 5sec...
So can someone please say why i canot conect trough my password and why it keeps scaning after im allready conected(but only trough MAC adrees) tnx
You seem to be confusing a few terms, but it would appear you have MAC address filtering set up in your router. That's generally a false sense of security. It's normal for the wifi to be scanning even when connected.
ah so...i didnt know this. But altough im conected,i canot access internet...it must be something with my router...anyone knows?
i conect to my laptop normaly...
sometimes my router doesn't connect to my phone but does to my laptop as well, and sometimes visa versa, try rebooting router and devices. that usually works for me,

Connects to local wi-fi, but can't connect to the internet.

Hi
I am having a problem connecting to the internet through my home Wi-Fi network on a Tab A (SM-T350). It connects to the WiFi network just fine. I can control my Harmony TV remote from the Tab A so I know it is solidly on the net. It shows up as a connected device on the router. When I try for any internet connection I get a "Server not found" message. The weird thing is it has connected to the Yahoo home page twice but I could not go anywhere from there. When I got out of the browser I was not able to reconnect. It won't sync Email either. I am using several browsers and get the same behavior all of them. No other devices are having any problem with the WiFi network, just the Tab A.
Any ideas? A web search talked about similar problems on some devices a couple of years ago. It had do with the date on the tablet being reset and some sort of sync issue. This is not the problem here.
Thanks
John

could be something wrong with your DNS
I guess you mean the Domain Name Service on the router? I can get internet access using the same router on different devices. What did you have in mind.

maybe your device isn't picking it up for some reason. you can try manually setting the DNS to 8.8.8.8 in the advanced network settings and see if it fixes it.
I tried your suggestion. It was set DHCP, I went to static, and set the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and it did not help. I did notice that when I first try to bring up a web page after connecting to the WiFi network it will bring up the current page once. None of the links will work. Also if I shut down the browser and try to re-open that same web page it will not connect.
Anyway, thanks for the idea. If you can thing of anything else let me know.
John
I figured it out. I went onto the router it showed a device with the correct tablet MAC address was attached. It showed the MAC address was bound to a device with an IP address that did not match the IP address the tablet was trying to talk to. I don't know how that happened, but it did. Anyway I went onto the tablet, forced a static IP and made it match the one on the router.
