Fix for dead hd2 winphone 7 fter battery discharge - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Probably the wrong place but this forum is beyond navigation for newbies like me...
if you have let your battery run dry and can no longer charge and get into your win7 hd2, here's how I did it...remove sim and sd card, plug charger in, it will boot and charge again... worked for me...

I'll make sure to keep this in mind, if it works! I'll make an edit to announce my results when that unfortunate day comes.

Pulling the battery out and sticking it back in works too.

not for me. if its really discharged and i remove the battery, put it back, the charge led (orange) goes on and after 5sec its off again and nothing happens

Nope, that only works if you still have charge left in battery. removing and putting it back in also unlocks it because if you power on phone with USB in it locks for some reason. Well mine does anyway.
If your battery is completley dead then you have no choice (atm) to either charge the battery externally with a dock or by using a USB cable with end cut off (red wire to positive/black to negative).

Yes. That's what I also do many times. Never fails
No need to pull out your micro sd, it might cause your rom corrupt. Be careful!

Here's What works for me
Remove the battery .. put it back ... keep the down volume key pressed n press the power key ... THE phone will be on recovery screen... plug THE usb in .. leave it like this for like 15 mins n now reboot . It will be recharged just enuff to power the phone on ... keep the usb plugged and it will start rechaging ...

None of these tricks worked for me, and I didn't want to cut my usb cable...
But I solved the problem with dual boot. Now I can charge my hd2 when it's turned off, and I even have my battery able to charge up to 100%

I presume the phone will not charge if theres not enough power to enter WP7.
I thought the phone would charge by the USB power lead if its turned off.
I guess enter MAGLDR or the Tricolour screen will allow it to charge?

I've let my phone turn itself off twice since I've been on WP7 and pulling the battery has been enough to get it to boot up far enough to charge both times so maybe I've just been lucky or maybe the phone shuts down before it's completely discharged...

Oh man, this happened to me the other day. Battery died, phone wouldn't hold a charge. Freaked out!! But after some trial and error it worked.

Its not possible to charge the phone when its turned off?
This happened to me when I was still using WinMo. When I connected the phone to charger, it seemed dead (no led light), but after some time (I left it charging over night) it catched up and charged.
This is not possible with WP7? I wouldnt say, that MGDLR could change the way of charging when the phone is off.

keep an external charger for this problem. at least we can hope in the next update of the ROM will solve this problem

In my case, since I fall asleep while listen to music, in morning I wake up, phone already shutdown and can not boot. Even when I plug in, it boot to htc welcome then reboot.
I have tried to pull out the battery and put it back but nothing happen, my phone keep reboot.
So, I pull out the battery and charge with external charger (can charge battery only without phone). Then after 30min put it back then it works.
Thanks god. So be prepare an external charger because WP drain more power then we thought even with the warning 10%. I can not have enough power left for an over night.

This works for me.
This is known maglard issue. This steps works for me every time.
1. Remove battery and after few seconds place it back.
2. Connect your phone with PC through USB
3. Now enter bootloader by pressing Vol Down and Power buttons at same time.
4. Leave it connected for a few minutes.
5. Disconnect your phone from PC and remove battery for a few seconds.
6. Now place battery back and power up your phone.
7. You will start WP7 and now you can continue charging battery normaly.

MGDLR choose last option
it hapens to me and what i have done is in MGDLR I choose last option an it satart charging after some minutes you have to take out the baterry and reboot
it work for me

Happened to me this morning:
1) Took battery out, placed in cradle, put battery in, and held down 'POWER' whilst it booted to MAGLDR.
2) Selected USB Mass Storage Mode, waited for 10 minutes, pulled the battery out, whilst still in the cradle.
3) Re-inserted battery, allowed WP7 to boot, and orange light came on whilst booting, and started charging in WP7.
Thanks to all in this thread!
Nick

Tghe VOL DOWN + POWER works. Happened to me yesterday and after 10 minutes in tricolor I was able to boot.

Bootloader Charges Battery
VICTORY! I was frustrated, and pulling out the battery for a few seconds didn't help at all. Putting the phone in the bootloader (tricolor) screen for 10 minutes worked for me. Phone is back in WP7 and is charging.

No need to pull out battery just hold down power button boot to magdlr main menu leave charger in for 5 mins than boot wp7 (first option in menu) than shud work

Will not boot, powers down

Last night my battery completely drained so I charged it over night and when I went to power it on it says booting WPH go go go, boots to the HTC green logo screen and powers off. I have been running WP7 flawlessly for 3 weeks now and have not had this problem before. I don't really want to reflash right now because I'm hoping there's a way to salvage everything in the phone.
Are you sure the battery charged last night...reason I ask is...when it completely drains the battery wont charge when the phone is off due to Magldr.
Yeah, it's off the charger right now and it just keeps powering off after the HTC logo
same exact thing just happened to me. I'm going to start from scratch and redo it.
I am curious to know as to what caused this, it's very odd since the ROM has been working flawlessly.
your not restarting with usb cable attached are you?
how did you charge your battery? external charger?
there is some talk that charging in magldr usb flasher mode works dispite no status lights BUT its unclear if the battery controller will auto cut off when full, overcharging could shag your battery
oh a while back i had some odd restart issue too, pretty much as you have mentioned, happened 4 times in a row then worked
Help me too!!!
Me as well, about an hour ago, my battery drained, so I plugged it in, and the phone keeps restarting, but then powers off...
I've kept it on the AC for the past hour, and now it no longer hit's the magldr, it just flashes the screen black, then dies...
Is there a way to JUST CHARGE my battery? Without having it in the phone?
too bad you didnt seach for this issue, i wrote a nice piece that would have got you out of that mess if you hadnt kept restarting it, oh well never mind,
if you cant even get to magldr then your looking at an external charger, you could try connecting up an old usb cable directly to the battery but be very careful!
This happened to my old HD2 after I gave it to my sister once I got my HD7, to enable it to charge again all I did was remove cable, remove battery. Re-insert battery and attach cable, hold down the volume down button on the side of the handset and press the power button.
The phone will turn on and show the tri-color screen. Leave it on this screen for 20 minutes and the battery will charge, then simply reboot and you will be able to boot back in to Windows Phone 7.

[Q] Cant boot. Battery wont charge?

hey guys.
charged battery at night used it at work all day came home around 10 and battery was on 1%..went upstairs to charge but phone but was dead. when plugged into wall phone boots for 2 sec then turns off and boots again for 2sec....constantly looping like this? im pretty sure i just need enough charge so that i can boot into android and ill be sweet. but doesn't even get half way there!?
need help. cant charge.
im leaving the battery out for the night and im gonna try again tomorrow but any suggestions would be great!
thanks
Not sure but you can try this: hold down power button till mgldr menu comes. Stay in mgldr menu for some time and get some charge, then reboot.

Phone will not charge on magldr screen. Android needs to be booted to charge.
Get old USB cable, mini or micro, cut end off, bare red and black, take battery, connect red to + and black to - ,plug into wall charger and hold wires on battery for a minute or so, reinsert battery, should be charged enough to get far enough into booting to start charging.
First.. i had the same problem.
it have to charge while off.
before you cut off things, check the batterypins. one of them was broken on my HD2 (i saw one of them below my battery).
if so, try to hold that broken pin back while insert the battery and try again.
you could also buy a dockingstation (something like that: http://www.amazon.com/Fosmon®-Premi...P2YS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1313518480&sr=8-4) to charge batterys.
I had the same problem once, I`m not 100% sure how i solved it but I think that I pluged it in that it started booting and removed then the battery. I think it doesnt start automatically if you reinsert the battery then... but I´m not sure about it...

thats correct, but relies on the bootloader being able to charge when off, so this method of fixing the discharged battery problem only works with winmo or cLK
Your right i had that Problem in the time i was running it with winmob andere haret

Charge while in bootloader or hard reset screen, it should charge from there.
However, the charging process using the aforementioned methods is kind of slow.
hey guys. thanks for your responses. i have left it overnight and it doesnt get to the 1234 bit. i have 3-4 cords so i cut one up however it has blue, red, white and green cords....whats positive and whats negative?
also my pins are fine.
this is killing me!
Thank you to samsamuel, i ended up cutting my old cable. connected the red cable to + and the white cable to - and left it for a hour. just booted my phone back up and got 1000 msgs and emails lol and im on 84% battery.
thanks again to everyone how posted!
much appreciated!
Good to hear,, for anyone else thinking of trying it, an hour is pushing it a bit, you are running the risk of damaging the battery since the charge control circuits aren't being used.
What Android build is this? I remember having a build once that required a special key combination to charge the phone up. I think it required you to hold the volume down and power while plugged in to the charger and it could charge from there. I don't remember exactly though.

Nothing to do with the build,,, if you have magldr installed the phone must be on and booted into android to charge.

EDIT: I realize now that it must have been something else, can't charge in HSPL or MAGLDR (duh). I have no recollection of what though (if anybody knows, let me know because it's driving me nuts now!)
OP, you do also realize that instead of cutting up wires you could get an external charger for your battery and just charge the battery alone, right? If you've wanted to buy one of those fancy desk docks you could get one that also charges a battery behind the phone

[Q] HD2 Stuck in loop on power up

I had MAGLDR v1.13 with Android 2.2 on my HD2. Everything worked fine, until tonight, I booted the phone into the MAGLDR. I had the menu up for a few minutes. All of a sudden the phone powers off.
Now it's stuck in a loop - if I press the power on button, I get a vibration, and "T Mobile" logo comes up ,and then the screen goes dark again.
I tried removing the battery to no avail.
How can I fix it?
Update:
Now it's even worse: The T mobile screen no longer comes up, regardless of how long I keep the power button pressed.
Thanks!
Can you still get into boot loader? If so, try doing a factory reset on it.
It sounds like your battery might have died. I know that when you are using MAGLDR. You can not charge the battery unless you are booted into the OS. Not to mention it takes a little more power to boot up a device.
You may want to try and charge your battery some how or try another battery if either are possible.

Yep, wanted to point out the same. I had been away and couldn't get to my charger on time, so my phone went off completely and when I finally managed to connect the charger it made it all the way to WP7 startup screen and then went off - not enough to get the battery to start charging. I connected the charger, made it to the MAGLDR menu and left it for about 10-15 minutes with charger inside, then I removed the charger, removed the battery, reinserted both and was able to boot into windows and charge properly. Somehow, even though it's just MAGLDR and no charging light is showing, you can still manage to charge it just enough to start the OS. Worth a try... Although in your case it sounds like your battery is already gone beyond getting to even the MAGLDR.
The only other alternative will be to charge in another phone or use desktop charger.
Take an old USB lead, mini micro doesn't matter,
Cut end off,
Plug into wall charger
Red to + black to - on battery (can hold with your fingers, wont hurt)
Hold for about a minute
Battery back in and real usb in, and should boot far enough for charging to start.
Thank you all! It was indeed a dead battery!
How could it drain so fast, since it was about 90% when I started using it?

I feel mine is on the way out, actually. It charges etc, but acquired a tendency to go off unexpectedly and fail to start up the device beyond MAGLDR and on rare occasions beyond the logo. Discharges unnaturally quickly too. I have a spare, so not a huge deal, but I prefer to have a fully charged spare in my bag, just in case. Just ordered 2 replacements in anticipation of it dying.
Glad we could help, hehe, I bet you were tearing your hair out thinking it was your phone.

[Q] HTC Not charging while off (cLk)

Hey,
I have installed cLk and my battery ran out by accident, and when I put it in with my USB it just turns on the phone, then turns off almost straight away then turns on and goes in a loop. How can I ressurect my phone? I thought cLk was able to charge while off?
Thanks,
Snowled
Did you check the contact pins between battery and HD2 body?My experience is that the middle pin is so easy to be bent, and can not contact to the battery. This makes battery unchargeably.
CLK can be offline charging but I still get problem too if I want turn on my device,,,i must pull out my battery and back it back to turn on my device,,,,

This is due to how clk charges while off. AFAIK the phone isn't truly off when charging, instead it boots to something (clk?kernel?something else?) that just handles charging with the screen off. This is also why the hardware key lights will light up when charging while off. You don't need to pull the battery, just unplug from charger and power up.
If you still can't get it to charge, remove the battery, connect the usb cable then wait a few seconds, finally insert the battery and your phone should start charging normally .
cLK: phone off under charge
Hi guy
with cLK 1.5.0.3 when my phone is off and under charge, I have to remove the battery because the led stay on, and as if I push the power button, the phone doesn't start on.
This happen also when I unplugged the cable and push the power button like suggest to jwchips (2 post above)
There's a solution?
Ps. With phone off and usb cable is plugin, the battery charge.
still not charging
phone still not charging, I have to charge the battery outside of the phone, then insert it for the phone to boot up, then it will charge, if the battery died on me, it wont charge with the original charger or with the computer USB...
Enable in-built charging mode in CLKs advanced settings and try.
Don't know about Clk...but in magldr...when in boot menu screen...HD2 charges. (Led is off...no indication of charging...but it does).

What version of clk do you use? The latest experimental version can charge in off mode (both by recovery or built-in clk) and wake up your phone easily. You can charge in off mode when using old clk. But, the wake-up key combination is weird, i.e. volume up + volume down + power key. It is difficult to press them at the same time.
If all failed, charge the battery out of the phone.:fingers-crossed:
charge it in tricolor bootloader! (volume down + power) and it will not show led during charge

Are you sure about this? I don't know exactly what happens because I only have WPH 7.8 and I can't really rely on the battery indication while it turns on. Every time it is different.
So, maybe a new feature in the next release of MAGLDR can be a battery charge indication and levels? Since it boots up anyway to charge (even in magldr), i think it would be helpful. What do you all think? Maybe we post a humble request to the developers of MAGLDR?

My HD2 won't power - Please Help!

I woke up this morning and It appeared that the battery had ran out during the night as the phone was off.
I attempted to turn it on and nothing , plugged in usb charge and nothing (no lights no reaction to me pressing power .. nothing)
I had a spare battery ... nothing
I have tryed hard reset but since I get nothing that also does nothing.
Please help , any ideas?
I have stock winmo6.5 with americandroid running from sd (it would have been running android last night) , no new installs etc being this setup for months
1. First remove battery for some time, let it rest at room temperature.
then put battery with some charge into HD2, double check that battery connectors are clean
2. plug in wall charger into HD2
3. press and hold red reset button inside HD2 case
4. turn on while still pressing red button
5. after some while release red reset button
6. pull out battery repeat from step 1 if it doesn't boot up
try this several times, if this doesn't help you should look into motherboard fault.

Thank you for your reply , I have tried what you suggested but as of yet I have had no luck. Do you have any other suggestions?
you say you had a spare battery, was it charged?
you also said you were running android from SD, would your phone normally boot to android by its self or would it go to WM?
MAGLDR is a bit of a pain when it comes to the battery. if your unsure about the spare battery then get yourself an external charger and charge one up, there is a way of doing this manually with an old USB cable but id suggest get a charger

It booted up in stock wm6.5 - no rom / radio updated since I got it from HTC , I would then use the file explorer to navigate to the android folder and boot it that way.
99% of the time I would have it running android (only time it was in wm6.5 was when battery ran dead and I had to turn it back on)
The spare battery would have had charge , my friend has the same phone so I shall try her battery tomorrow but I'm thinking its not the battery
The strange thing is that it was working when I went to sleep, and I did nothing to it , no apps installed or roms installed etc and next morning I got nothing!! I MISS MY PHONE lol
