Easiest way to install market on Gen8! Arctools in Appslib - Gen8 General

Hi
I have found the application "arctools" in the "appslib-market", which installs market and other tools on the Archos Gen 8 devices...
I didn't try it because I have already installed market and youtube etc. on my A70. But when I have to re-setup my A70 I will give a try.
Just to let you know...

yes in know this great tool since middle of december......it makes many things easier to install....and now it has urukdroid support!!

Nice!!! This works great on my Achos 70, downloaded the market, tested it and downloaded a game (Mortalk Kombat II :-D)
Works awesome!!!
Good post!

Oh, thanks.
I'll try on my archos 28.

Didnt work on my 43 with UrukDroid installed, but then none of the market solutions have worked for me including the one with the UrukDroid setup.

Hi, I'm a big noob when it comes to roms and stuff. But I saw a urukdroid or something like that a few times now, can you tell me what is means? And if it is a rom, where I can download it?
Edit: I see what it is now in the development section.
But thanks anyways!

Just a confirmation regarding UrukDroid support in latest ArcTools releases: it is mainly related to starting/stopping services. Market installer in ArcTools is not meant for Urukdroid system and you should use the Google Apps files instead. (UrukDroid-0.4.2-GoogleMarket.zip)

Is there any benefit to using this instead of the gappsforarchos.apk method?
does the market installed this way show more apps?
thanks

CarsnGadgets, gAppsInstaller and ArcTools work pretty much the same and share the same Google applications, so you can use one or the other to get Android Market installed. ArcTools adds some features like application removal, UrukDroid services starter and Media Library Index optimizer...

if i need to reboot my 101, i'll try this method next time, it seems quicker/easier.

Does this still work? My A43IT can't find "Arctools" In the updated Appslib.
Is there an other way to get the Market? Like with an APK file perhaps?

It still works, but it's offline on Appslib since this morning, it's being updated there and the previous version is on hold till the new one gets validated.
You can grab the APK from that page

Arctools ---Easy
I just installed arctools, which allowed me to install Android market on my Archos 101 IT Gen8. Works great am downloading dungeon defenders first wave and several other apps, not available in appslib. Cool!

[Q] CyanogenMod RC-1 not all apps working

I'm trying to install all my old apps... Should've backed up the apk's of all of them...
2 I really need
CalorieCounter - Fatsecret (yeah I'm a fatty - wanna dance!!)
Paypal
Everytime I click these in appbrain or the market it says downloading, and then it stops without actually downloading. I've even tried killing the process and re-trying, but no luck.
Can someone send me the apk of these? or point me to the apk?
try wiping market data in settings->applications->market
btw for future reference u posted in the wrong section
thanks for the reply, should I re-post this elsewhere? Don't want to list it like 7 times on the same forum...
FYI that didn't work either...
These two are finicky. Some ROM's they will work, others not so much...
screw it, I'm just gonna go back to the stable mod.
Fatsecret calorie counter appears to have been removed from the market. Don't know why.

It shows fine for me. Installs fine on my Liberated FR005.
For what it's worth, this package is distributed as a zip and not an apk. Here it is if it helps:

Link to other ROMs for Advent Vega Tablet

Guys,
Looks like the folks at the Modaco Advent Vega tablet forum are also using the VeganTab version of the ROM for our Gtablets. Would any of the ROMs on their rom download page also work on our Gtablets?
Here is the link: http://android.modaco.com/content/a...6486/advent-vega-rom-software-updates-guides/
Anyone know if any of these Vega roms would work on the gtablet without modifications? Looks like they're also using the Vegan rom that the developers here made for the Gtablet.

I just tried Big Ideas ROM in our Gpad...It works but its all in chinese, have to set language to english and wifi is broken. Other than that everything seems to be fine. Had to build a boot.img though coz the included boot.img wont work.
UPDATE:
Figured out how to change language from Chinese to ENglish and did a wifi patch. Everything is functional so far. Will do further testing and might release Big Ideas ROM for our GPAD. BTW, its pretty snappy
This Big Ideas Rom dont even need a market fix.
Have been using the the Big-ideas variations since 1202 on my Zpad. Have had no issues with wifi, lag and market. What I did was NVFlash Big Ideas ROM then made a GAPPS update with update.script to delete all Chinese apps then pushed the Google apps. This has been working out quite well.
I guess what Rothnic proposed about using Big-ideas as a base then add Vegan stuffs is heading in the right direction.
Rom 1.06.05 (VEGA) is the base foundation for VEGAn beta 4/5, FYI. A lot of this is intermingled.
I do like that link, as they seem to update it frequently.
I love the file explorer in Big Ideas rom. Does anyone know what app that is?
I LOVE BIG IDEAS ROM!!! I'm building a Vanilla version and might upload it tomorrow after testing it

I'm confused... I thought that ZPad 3.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853310) already *was* essentially the vanilla version of the Big Ideas ROM, with the Chinese language stuff stripped out.
Thanks my understanding, as well.

I would try update 3. Be careful it says use at you own risk! Not sure if they are any newer than what we already have. i was just curious. Try taking a quadrant score before and after, see if it makes a difference. I admire your courage

I gave it a try awhile back sadly the USB key button was not functional of course. Simply clicking the USB key button in iFileManager makes it much easier, even if the translation is sometimes appalling

I worked around that issue by just simply making my usb system file a favorite which then gave me a direct link.

success!!!!

I did it...the mod worked...i can start to explore...thanks for all your help!!!
No problem....enjoy...Anyday now we will probably get another update from Dexter that includes the changes made in the new official update.
awesome
I can't waitt for the new updated dex mod. Put the elocity update and have added about ws much free software I can find. Now it would be nice to see what more current ay for apps work. It has been hit or miss with the free apps. Nice to have free but there is a lot of garbage too.
I have not had true google market access and that would be nice.
Does anyone know how to root this device so i can use setcpu app. I installed ita and it never opened just force closed. I tuink it is because of permissions but i do not know how to show an app that i am root, thanks
Rob
wont be able to run setcpu until the source is released. from what i can tell there are a bunch of modules missing in the kernel to provide the necessary hooks for something like setcpu. been pushing for source release for sometime myself and still no response from elocity.

[Q] Fixing issues on a Rooted "Stock" KF

I am new to the Kindle Fire, and recently rooted with Kindle Fire utility without a hitch. Many thanks to all the Dev's that put that together, great work. I am not new to rooting and customizing ROMs on Droid phones, but new to the "tablet" world.
However, after doing some searching, I am unable to find information on some things.
1) Google Market. Its running fine, but there are a ton of apps missing from the market (ie Facebook). I have seen some threads on how to fix this if I am on CM7, but was wondering if its possible to do this on a "stock" rooted KF?
2) Blocking updates. Is there an easy way to "block" Amazon from being able to push updates to the device? I know this has caused issues like losing root, etc.
3) Freezing Apps. Are there any "standard" apps or processes that can be frozen/removed from the Stock ROM that aren't needed? I haven't been able to find a definitive "list".
Thanks again,
-Sf-

Hey there.
Let me see. You can use "Titanium backup" to freeze stupid things like maps. I dont have mine anymore so i cant populate a list for you atm. You can try to update the "Market" app to resolve issues with missing apps. My advice: use stock rom, root it. And use a launcher like launcher pro. Then use setcpu.
1 - try the modaco rom - it shows to the market as galaxy tab:

2 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1451328

Editing the build.prop file should fix market visibility. I just purchased and rooted mine last night but i'm also having the same issue. Going to try out this after work. Should do the trick. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371021

Sounds good. I saw this post, but I haven't seen a build.prop for the stock rooted Kindle fire. If you get yours to work, please post it. Thanks!

I would like to stick with the stock rom, since hardware acceleration seems to be an issue with most of the custom roms. Do you know if Modaco supports hardware acceleration?
The only roms that have trouble with hardware acceleration are the ICS roms, all other roms have working HWA.
As far as I know the missing apps from the market can't be fixed if your on stock, even if you edit the build.prop, thats why I moved from stock to cm7.
I don't know if there is a way to completely block amazon updates, but I just froze silentupdate with titanium backup when I was stock and I never got the notification to move from 6.2.1 to 6.2.2.
The only app I know of that can freeze apps is titanium backup pro in the market, and there is no list of apps that can be removed/frozen on the stock rom, just use common sense when removing/freezing the apps, don't delete an app if you don't know exactly what it is or delete the kindle launcher, and then wonder why your homescreen is gone, and make sure to backup any apps you mess with.

modaco is a optimized 6.2.2 stock rom - you can update with it and loose nothing cause it don't format any partitions - read the op of modaco for more information ...

Thanks I will take a look at that. Thanks for the advice.
Looks like MoDaCo for the Kindle Fire was the way to go. My market is working great now, system is very fast, really impressed overall. Still retains the "stock" feel with a few tweak. Now I have to figure out if it doesn't get updates from Amazon.
look at my first post - the link in point 2
allthrough i think in modaco the file is allready removed it's better to check twice
There is a system app called OTA Silent Update and you can just delete it and your all good.

A200

I had posted in the a100 forum and was referred here.
My wife just got the 32 gig a200 and I was wondering about different apps like Beats Audio, Swype etc..
Right now it is all stock but wondering what the steps would be to root and add a new ROM to it..
Thank you for your time..

hbwelch's tool will root, flash recovery and kernel, and much more.
Thanks for your response..
I will look into it. she actually updated it today. so I dont know if I need to wiat for a new root. or if the update was minimal .. and I should go ahead an do it..
The latest update was June 22/23-abouts, and the tool still works on that update, so you should be fine. The tool is practically noob-proof (not calling you a noob, though), and very simple to follow.
I installed Swype beta using the Swype installer. Works perfectly. No hacking required, just need to sign up with swype for thier beta testing.

Sign up. You log in on the installer to download it. WiFi is recommended.
