[Q] Need Advice/Knowledge on my new T-Mobile HD2 - HD2 General

Hello everyone, first off let me start by congratulating the great team XDA-Developers for this awesome web page and the help they give to total NOOBS like me. Also I wanted to point out that if these questions or this thread are in the wrong place, please move it cause it's the firs time I ask for help.
Ok, so a little background, I'm not a complete noob on computers or cell phones, just on the HD2, I've had in the past a Nokia 6600, an HP 6515 running wm2003se, an iphone 3g and a 3gs, all of these were tweaked and hacked or jailbroken etc...
So now on the the questions, I just got myself a used T-Mobile HD2 cause I wanted to leave behind my iphone and have something with more power and customization options. Now I have this incredible phone in my hands and I have so many questions and plans for it, but I need Knowledge before I attempt to do anything and I can't seem to find the answers for my questions in any thread, so here goes !
1. should I update to the latest T-Mobile ROM from their web page ? Or should I at least download it to have it as a backup to flash back to stock ?
2. I think this device has already HSPL cause it had android on it before, how do I check the HSPL and should I use that or go for SSPL ?
3. As far as wm6.5 goes, I've been planning of flashing an Energy ROM, is that a good choice ?
4. Now, after having a cooked ROM on the device, I want to try android, but I want to be able to boot it from my SD card, I've been reading about Exceller's Android Loader, and according to what I've read i could have wm6.5 on my device and be able to dual boot different versions of android, an I gonna have issues with that ? are the android versions on the SD card gonna work properly ?
5. OK, so lets say I can have wm6.5 and 2 other versions of android on the SD card, how would the loaded apps get organized on the SD card ? can I choose when installing apps where they should be installed so I can keep the SD card organized ?
6. Whats the difference between NAND and RAM droid ? If I load Android through the SD card will it have less functionality than if I flash the device ?
7. Is using android from an SD card like emulating ? does it make the device slower, take up more ram, drain battery more ?
8. Does flashing a device with Android delete all traces of wm6.5 ? I ask this cause I want to try and know what is the fastest and more powerful OS i should have and keep on my device.
9. Does changing to android take away functionality from the HD2 remote (skip songs/pause/play/answer calls) ?
Well that's it for now, I have so many more questions but probably by now whoever is reading this has fallen asleep ! LOL
Thank you to anybody who has the patience to help me out.

[Q] Switching to android

I am a linux fan and I am using Linux for a long time.I bought the HTC HD2. I saw some youtube videos about Android Froyo on HD2.I want to try it but they were showing that you have to put the file on the micro sd card and you have run it from there. My question is if I do it can I run windows mobile after a new boot ?or it will boot android for all time?I just don't want to let windows go because may be i will switch back. Can any one please help me?
Yes, you can easily get into winmo, every time you shutdown android you have to load winmo first and then use haret to load android, so no worries .

You can also get a boot loader from XDA and choose which you want to load at start up. windows or android...

Thanks for quick reply.Do you know which devices will not work on HTC HD2 if I run Android?Cause little confused here .Some people says wifi does not work ,some says camera does not work.Do you know actually what does not work?
That was a loooong time ago^^
Now, EVERYTHING WORKS, unless:
- You have an inappropriate Kernel (some still have issues, but the latest one works flawlessly)
- You have an inappropriate ROM (there's been reports on CM6 not being ok with all Kernels, hence the 1°)
- You have an "Exotic" rom (Desire HD, Desire Z...) : these aren't fully supported ATM
However, there are known issues with:
- Tethering, especially Wifi, it's not yet always 100% ok
- Kernels, they are all being tweaked, but IMHO, go for it, I don't boot WinMo anymore
- And other small annoyances, but that depends on your device, rom, kernel, etc etc etc
FOR YOUR CONCERN:
- Booting from an SD card is far from a flaw (to me) : Copy aside your data.img, and copy a build over it. You'll never loose your personal data by flashing again
- Hence this : Don't ask for "the best Android rom", all you'll have will be personal opinions, and may not suit you. Try them, it's damn easy, you won't loose your personal data, it's a matter of days
- Ask about the really important stuff : Kernels and Radio, and things like that, but AFTER getting through the other post and thread. Nothing more annoying than a "noob" (and we've ALL been through there, but...) that didn't (at least) try looking for himself.
->Try asking questions, starting with "I've been looking for this, found this, understood this, but need help about that" and you'll see how people will be grateful ^^

To be honest, i just (finally) being able to install Froyo on my HD2, after a lot ROM changing, Radio ect....
I must say, is not really easy to finally find the perfect combination so u can use Froyo as your daily OS (at least for me)...but u will always got XDA, and from my opinion, all the hard work (flashing, changing rom/radio) is really worthed....
so far i dont have any problem running android on my HD2...
Sorry for my bad english....

[Q] New here and got some questions.

Hi, I am new here and completely new when it comes to modifying phones.
I have a normal HTC HD2, not a T-Mobile one. I am running the default ROM but I would like to try out Android on it and have some questions. I have read through a fair amount of threads here, but there is so much information to process I thought I'd ask some questions:
1. Is it worth moving from default ROM to an Android build?
2. Can I roll back to my current ROM if I don't like Android.
3. NAND booting seem to work better and is more stable, yes/no?
4. Does everything work as it should o the Android ROMs?
5. What Android build should I go for?
I really appreciate any help I can get, thanks!
1_ it is entirely up to you. for me yes.
2_ yes, and it's extremely easy
3_ yes, waaaaayyy better
4_ yes. however gps could be a pain sometime
5_ again, entirely up to you. I would suggest any no-sense 2.0 (so desire HD/Z ports) as they need some work of the SD card. (i.e.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917590)
Android also has a future (and a good one )
WM does not
1. YES. I started with Android on my HTC Touch HD (HD1), at fiorst I ran it for fun as I really liked WM but then I started using Android more and more untill it became my primary OS for many reasons.
2. YES. You simply put the stock rom you want on your SD card, rename it to leoimg.nbh and then go into bootloader by holding Volume down while powering on.
Note: Also you dont need to flash Android to phone, You can instead choose to boot it via WM from SD card.
3. YES. Nand is much more stable then SD card and brings many advantages.
4. YES. 99.9%, Infact Android runs better on HD2 (with tweaks) then majority of native devices But this depends on what ROM you use.
5. Only you can answer that and its frowned upon to create topics asking what is the "best" or most "stable" rom simply because opinions are subjective and what is "best" or "stable" for you may not be for somebody else.
Your best option is to go and try some and see which you like best. The best/most fun part of all this is the learning and the playing with different builds
You should probably start of on something simple like the NexusHD2 Froyo 1.9G rom, play with that for a bit and then try other ones.

You dont need a tutorial, Ive just told you how to do it
You will first need to flash HSPL to your phone if you want to flash a custom rom but should be able to flash a stock one without afaik, My HD2 hasnt been stock since the first day og purchase so cant remember exactly. Use search and search topic titles for the word "HSPL".
a) Choose your stock WinMo rom.
b) Rename the .nbh file to "leoimg.nbh"
c) Put it on root of SD card.
d) Power on phone while holding the Volume Down key.
e) Keep holding it until it loads into the flasher.
f) Follow instructions.

1. Its worth it. I dont say that Android is better than WinMo. Its different, try it and make your choice.
2. Yes you can, Put your HD" in bootloader mode, connect pc, run you winmo rom from HTC or any other rom.
3. Stablity wise I dont see huge differance, I use NAND for "direct" boot of my choice of android.
4. Yes it does..
5. I use AF403 DesireHD http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907387 and it works well for me.

andriod on the htc hd2 running great..But there one problem with my gps...any ideads on how to fix it...screeen just goes black and i gotta do a restart..Any ideas?

[Q] I want to install Android on my HTC HD2 Leo!?

How can i start to install Android on HD2.

Read the millions of guides on how to do this. Also, for anyone to help you you would need to specify what exactly you want to do. Don't be lazy, just use the search button and if you still don't understand, then ask.
Here is a tutorial

Is this because you don't have an SD card? I don't see any point in attempting to run NAND Android without an SD card to be honest.
If this is the case I would advise you to buy one. Without one you will have barely any space for apps and stuff, and you may as well stick to windows if you aren't going to use any apps on android.
Nigeldg , i have one 8GB on the phone!
i'm reading some experience from members here , and i'm see some bugs reporting from members , for that then i'm afraid if i get any error during install OS android on Leo HD2.
Sure , i'm asking here before trying to work on HD2.
Anyway thank's for reply.
Don't be scared...
When you will begin installing android for the HD2 you will first install a bootloader-program (MAGLDR) that manages everyting for your phone. After that you will install the actual rom from your sd-card with a program inside your bootloader-program (Clockworkmod). If this failes in any way you still have the bootloader-program installed which you can use to try install a different rom.
In case everyting fails you can always start your phone in the real bootloader (vol-down + power on) and install the original windows mobile 6.5 rom with USB to go back to the original situation. (keep in mind you still have a hacked HSPL then)
The reason why you'd want to install roms from your sd is that all the best roms right now are only available in zip-packages which need to be installed from your sd. Just follow this guide:

[Q] Dual boot - WM 6.x or Android

I apologize because I know the answer is posted out there somewhere but my 62 year old brain is exploding trying to figure out what to search on.
I've got a US T-Mobile HD2 WM6.5 with the stock opsys on it. I would LOVE to change to a "cooked" ROM (not WM7 if possible because I'm still running XT on my computer, unless someone tells me that is possible) and some version of Android so I can test Android GPS apps.
I tried looking up the threads and posts but couldn't even figure out whether to search for "dual boot", "boot manager", or any one of a half dozen other alternatives.
I'll search the posts if someone tells me how. Which term? Parenthesis?
or the URL to a step by step procedure
or the URL to a post with clear instructions.
I'd love to hear from someone that is actually running a configuration they are happy with.
Sheez, to think I spent over 30 years in Silicon Valley. I feel old.
GPSGary
The only way to dual boot with Windows 6.5 is using HaRET (sd build). There are some programs which will boot up Android straight away. There are no non-stock bootloaders that support Windows 6.5.
here's what ya need to do mate ...
1 head on over to the the Android section for Leo, the go to the sd development subsection.
2 read the first 3-5 posts (stickies) they usually (always) have easy access to guides, roms, various other things.
READ READ READ!!!
Good Luck!
1. Start with checking your SPL in bootloader - vol-down + power while the device is off.
2. Download HSPL4 from here, not forgetting if your SPL matches those mentioned in that post (it should, but if it doesn't, post it here and we will think about it). Get it and run it (from bootloader or WM), upgrade SPL to HSPL 2.08. It is needed to use the cooked ROMs.
3. Find a ROM that matches your needs here. I can't help you with your choice because I used stock ROM until the day I got an 8gb sd card and installed WP7. That section is rarely updated though, so if you know you will be very careful and install only ROMs which support your version, you can have a look here. Be very careful and install only the ROMs which clearly say "TMOUS compatible".
4. Since it's a TMOUS, you shouldn't need to update the radio (basically software controlling your phone), but if you want to be 100% sure, you can install the recommended radio, 2.15.50. Download it from here and install it by running RUU.exe.
5. Get the Android. Choose a ROM in this section. Since you say it's only for GPS, I'd recommend you getting a fast, efficient CyanogenMod-based ROM like AmeriCan Android.
What have you been doing in Silicon Valley, if you can't find needed information? OK, this might be confusing on the first look, but reading a bit would help you a lot.

[Q] Easy one stop Android?

Ive for an HD2 im going to give to my friends girlfriend to replace her current T-Mobile phone thats junk and has a cracked screen.
I have installed HSPL 2.08 to match the stock SPL, but now ive come to a stand still.
I only have a 4GB card right now (unless someone can tell me how to format one from a WP7 device, Windows wont recognize it).
Im getting confusing info about the US devices and radio's as well.
Isnt there a one step install for Android to SD card? Even the 'easy for noobs' directions has many confusing steps.
Unfortunately, no. The easiest way would be sd android run with haret from within windows mobile, but even that requires an updated radio.
Just put windows mobile back, update the radio (which is relatively easy if you read enough) and drop any sd build on your sd card and then click on "clrcad.exe." then "haret" from File Explorer on your phone.
That's the easiest.
Never took WinMo off but i did manage to get a 16 gig card to use. How do i tell what radio it has?
Go into settings > software information > radio.
That's it.
I recommend flashing 2.15.50 (if you don't already have one that is 2.08 or above)
2.15.50.14? Cause thats the one i've seen said 'use' and 'dont use'.
Ok, its got that radio on it. So i guess im good and can just find an image to put on the SD.
Just go into the SD android development, pick a ROM, download it and extract it into /Android/ on your sdcard.. then follow my first post.
Which Android version it is more suitable for the HTC HD2
I have an HTC HD2 running the original windows professional 6.5. and I m interested to install the Android OS in order to get
a faster an easy OS.
But after reading several posts and watching a lot of vieos on Youtube I feel lost which Android version it is more suitable to my smartphone
and if it is possible to get a little bit of more speed I woul be very happy.
As far as I understand i will require to burn or change my ROM first and then install the Android. But there are the Rafdroid version, the Ice Cream the Jelly Bean and so. Today I read a notice somewhere that a a guy have obtained 1.66 Ghz of speed at the HTC HD2 that it is amazing.
A little of speed would be great but the most important it is to have the Android because it is easy and may allow me to view videos ouside
youtube.
I will appreciate you advice and comments how to decide about the Android version.

Well, i did, i found AmeriCanAndroid. But when i launch Haret it says it cant find the zImage which is not in the NativeSD folder, but in the kernal/boot folder. Also in following the guide for this on YT, when i copy it to the SD its only 123 megs, not 232 like in the video. So im lost as to whats going on.
Also, my ex-wife had an HD2 briefly that had Android on it that you could launch from a shortcut on the home screen. Any idea how to do that?
Ok, i got this resolved. Once i realized MAGLDR wipes WinMo off i found an EXCELLENT video on YT for dual booting WP7 and Android. Thanks to the guy who made it, very thorough and had the links to the required software in the comments.
