[SOLVED] Looking for Android launcher app that can sort apps/games - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi guys, I know some launchers have the ability to sort apps/games into groups like ADW Launcher EX.
I was just wondering if there is a launcher/app that will pop up upon installation of a new app/game and ask what group you want to place it in?
I really like ADW but its just a ball-ache trying to keep track of things I install and make sure I haven't forgot to sort something, it would be cool if something asked after installation.
Has anybody come across a launcher/app that can do this?
[EDIT] This so probably best to go into questions/general thread. Can a mod move please.

Try "Smart Shortcuts" om Marked.

I think folder organiser pops up in notifications when a new app is installed.

Thanks guys but found exactly what I was looking for.. "Auto App Organizer"
Its awesome, been looking for a app like this since first getting Android. It will automatically scan all your installed apps and categorize them and will also watch for new installed. You can then create shortcuts to the categories on home and they will act like folders.
The app is free but I paid for the full version (no banner). tbh the banner wasnt really annoying or anything, I simply wanted to show appreciation.
I would REALLY recommend this app to anybody.

Thanks man. I have played with folder organising apps and the such before, but I just never bothered putting new apps into relevant places and so it just became a bit pointless.
This sounds much more suited to me! I shall have play.
Cheers
Edit: Lol - looks like the dev and me have a source in common

Found this looking around the forums runs smooth on the bionix 2.2 build...install then reboot for smooth runnings...enjoy.
Might need some minor tweaks but looks clean.

Nice, I'll try this. Downloading now. Thanks for the heads up.
Yea I'm running it now...thinking of some tweaks needed for memory and style on the widgets but other than that running like silk.

Did you have to rename the file to install?
EDIT: nm, didn't read.
Phone icon on launcher does NOT work
I was just gonna say that. Dialer shortcut not working.
I can't log on to FB from the widget. But so far I like it. Looking good.
looks good... Thanks.
wow looks nice i may try this in a few days still thinking about going obsidian so this may be my launcher of choice for the new build
Yea dialer is broken but ill see what I can come up with...at work now ill see what I can fix after I get home and get the kids in bed...haven't had time to look at it too much yet

I tried it yesterday and it was a pretty cool concept. You are right about needing some tweaking though. It would be awesome if this could take the place of Touchwiz in a 2.2 ROM. I might have to get out the good old Rom Chef handbook...
The launcher needs to look different imo, everything else looks good. I like how swiping up brings up the tray that's pretty slick. I'd be happy with the stock TW launcher look to be honest.
has anybody found a work around for the Phone button?
I when into Super Task Manager and I see the Phone.apk, because on the original Thread said to rename it to that in case it didn't work but it is already Phone.apk.
Phone Button is like Froyo launcher2.
You will need to smali it & edit to according.

yes sir.
Just got home and kids refuse to sleep atm...yea a simple rename is all it is calling for a simple rename of the phone.apk should fix the issue I just haven't torn apart the launcher apk yet so I'm unsure of the name if the kids crash out soon I can start the digging...lol...gotta love kids...they are like living with full time drunks....you never know what they are going to do next or where they hid you power supply for the laptop at...
Sent from this mobile thinggy...
Just digging into it myself - 614,165,225 files in there - any hints where it is in there?
Edit - Are there apps or system files that rely on "Phone.apk"? Will it be easier to change the name that dell looks for rather than changing the name of the apk?
Edit 2 - No luck here...
Been digging threw lines of code in the launcher looking for all the files and apks it calls for might be a day or so before I have this fixed...back to 18 hour days at work do this will have to be spare time project...

Running this now. Phone icon works. All widgets besides music, which gets immediate force close when trying and facebook not login are working. Pretty smooth. Im getting some force close on miuui music player, could be unrelated. Fairly useable on my superfast vibrant, froyo of course : )
p.s. Ill try to dial this in some more.

[Q] About rooting and other stuff

I think I might've posted this in the wrong thread, so I just copied and pasted it on to here
*#Rooting
Sheesh , I was scared to ask these questions. *but I just wanted to know a few things about this rooting stuff. As far as ADB and SDK I think it is. I know theres a guide for dummies, but I just want a quick summary and then theres is this clockmod recovery and then that cynogen thing. Just wanted to know if I should put that on my phone. I mean I really just rooted my phone for the themes and tweaks and all of that. I've been going through threads where people post there screenshots of their themes and that pretty much inspired me to root my phone. *- Its my first post , take it easy on me. Haha, but I would really like to get involved with this forum community. I am a graphic designer and pretty good at it but not at the moment cause I don't have my photoshop. I used to do blackberry themes as well. I don't know if that means anything...*
This looks more like a story than a question... but its straight...
Your asking for a quick summary of adb/sdk... sdk is the component that lets you run adb commands so sort anwser without it your computer wouldn't know what adb was... adb is the terminal command so you can make changes to your phone from your computer (add/delete/reboot/install/blah)
clockwork is a version of a recovery image... its well known because he made an app to go along with it...
Cryogen is a rom developer with a ridiculous following... he blew up back in the day when google sent him a cease in desist for using google apps in his roms (now they are dl'd separate)
I think that answers your 4 questions well in quick summery at least :/
Yeah, I know it was kind of long. Haha, sorry but should I put clockwork on my phone? Maybe if I needed to go back to factory settings or something and what program should I get to change my theme? I got launcher pro but I want to change the battery meter and all of that.

Maybe this would work, you could goto apps and then scroll down on the categories. Click productivity and then click top free, scroll down a bit and it should be the 6th top free app. Thats a harder way though. Haha
Edit: You can also search up the developers name " Federico Carnales " without quotes.

[Q] trojan?

My A500 seems to be infected with something. Every google search done from the default search on the tablet goes to some creepy website supposedly about jokes. I'm hoping someone here can help me fix it. I have anti virus running but it didn't catch this.
I'm not tech savvy, and my tablet is not rooted. Thx for any help!

It's not a virus. You probably installed an app that changed the settings for your search.
Open your search, then select the "settings" in the upper right corner. You can adjust your defaults search settings from there. Also might just see the app that changed it as well
Sorry. I thought the "A" in A500 indicated an Android tablet. It is Android, not Windows.
Funny...the concept of buying a Windows tablet is so unthinkable to me that it never occurred to me to consider that someone would think it was other than Android. LOL
THANK YOU Moscow Desire! That's exactly what it was. Now to find the offending app....grrrrrr. I didn't see anything in the settings to clue me in to what app did this nefarious act. I will find out though...and post a "review" on the Market.
Thanks again!

Another thing you might try if you see some strange apps suddenly appear, or you get strange notifications, is go to the Market and install an "air push detector" app. Not neccessary to run it all the time, but on occassion.
Thanks for the tip! I will do that now. Still haven't found the offending app. Nasty little buggers.

Avast did not catch it. I use Avast on my desktop and my tablet. In any case, the problem is gone now that I fixed the search settings. Thanks!
Use AirPush Detector from market. It's free, light and looks for apps that for example put ads on your lower bar (the one with clock, wifi icon etc).
Sent from my A501 using Alexandra III
Yep...have done that. Thanks!
My Comment is late in this thread.. And im sure you have it resolved..
But here is what i do to catch crap..
go to the market get advanced task manager app. Its tiny app and can be turned off to not Run in the background.. Once you do that it will not take up cpu or memory .
once in a while start it up and look at the apps that are running in the background. In the apps settings you can tell it to auto kill certain apps. This feature can be good to trouble shoot and find apps that have evil programming attached to it.
I will add be careful what you kill with it. If you open a app like the above and keep killing or set apps that you DO USE to be killed you will be fighting the built in management in android. IF Apps are in there that you know your running. If those apps you are sure is not the issue . DO NOT KILL Them they are just setting static for the most part. Killing them will cause cpu spikes as they will just come right back . Use the above mentioned app ONLY AS A TOOL To find rogue apps. not as memory manager app. Android does a great job with doing that if the apps will play by the rules..
Just wanted to add this to the other GREAT Replies you received in this thread. I believe most of the others who have applied use this or a similar app to week at ROGUE APPS.
Good Luck..
Thanks erica_renee...I'll take a look at it. If it's too complicated though, I probably won't be able to figure out how to use it. LOL Many of these apps have no instructions. The devs assume we all know how to figure them out. Not so true. I see "reviews" all the time from people asking how to use these things.

I can't believe they didn't fix this...

One thing that annoyed me deeply under Gingerbread was the fact that I would carefully arrange my apps icons along the apps pages, as I needed them to be, only to find out, a couple of days later, that the system "rearranged" some of them by its own will.
I struggled with this a bit and then just gave up thinking that the move to Honeycomb would solve the problem.
It didn't!...I am having the exact same problem with this new 7.7
Is there a solution to this?
It is kind of critical that icons stay where we want them to when their number starts to proliferate...This is exactly the kind of thing that can give Android a bad name, in what respects to user-friendliness......I don't think iOs suffers from a shortcoming as basic as this one...

Are you using a different launcher or still TouchWiz? If you aren't try any of the better known launchers (i'm using Go Launcher HD).

I am staying with TW until ICS comes around...I intend to change it afterwards.
Am I to understand that this specific problem is "launcher-dependent" ?
Thanks!
XK
In my experience, the icon self-rearrangement happened when I go to the "My apps" or "Frequent" pages. In other words, as long as I remain in the "All" page, the icons seem to stay without this self-arrangement.
I use a program called appzorter for this. It works well in keeping the TW launcher and my sanity.

From what i've noticed. The app drawer is part of the launcher, so it would reason why I haven't seen it happen in the other launchers i've tried (I also noticed this in TouchWiz with the Tab 7 Plus I tried before going to the 7.7).
If you are willing to switch to a different launcher after ICS, I strongly suggest you try before hand. If nothing else, it doesn't hurt to try, they can be easily removed.

No, it seems to work ok, under HC...
It sorts out the apps in alphabetical order and further allows to group them into separate "System" and "Installed" groups, if wanted.
For the moment, it will do...
(Thanks Robroy90!)

There came a point for me where the app drawer was not useful due to all my apps. Instead I use folder organizer and put my apps in specific folders.
Originally i put those folders on my desktop/docks but realized they were redundant after i added them to a SwipePad panel.
Now my desktops and docks are less cluttered and i only need to swipe in from the side of the screen to get instant access to my apps organized in those folders. I ignore my drawer now.

Things to Delete?

I just got my first Note series phone. I was wondering if there is anything I should straight delete after turning on the phone for the first time.
Someone said delete the Tmobile app cause it can show you're rooted? I held down and moved it to Remove spot., but does that delete it from the phone?
If anyone knows of any others that would be much appreciated.

No, system apps can't be deleted unless you are rooted. They can be disabled tho, which will remove the icon from the App drawer.
What you did, was just remove the icon from the desktop.
Ahh. Ok, thanks for the response.
I think even though I disabled some of the apps. Some still show up in App drawer. Like Music. I disabled that cause I have 3 freakin different music players. Like why the hell do they do that?
Anyways it's still showing up on my App drawer.
Rooting is really tempting me. Even though this is my first Note and have no experience doing it.

You should try using a different Launcher. Such as Nova or Apex. They have the option of 'Hiding' the icon that you don't want shown in the app drawer. Maybe you should start with that since you are new rooting.
Oh i thought you needed to root to change the launcher. Thanks for that info.

You can completely change the look of your phone without rooting, but you won't be able to do a lot of the things people like to do.

I really enjoyed Buzz Launcher for a long time, but I'm using Smart Launcher now with Cover Lockscreen on top of it. Can't wait to get my Note 4 and make the big from my Note 2.
