Is it possible to have for example the Swype keyboard while having the phone in the normal position and then having it switch to another keyboard while in landscape ??
I know it is possible if phone is rooted...

Actually, there was an article on XDA's home page about a member who created an app that does just that. You'll have to search though.
I use Smart Keyboard Pro. Works great for me.
On a related note, you know how when you switch to landscape the keyboard basically uses the whole screen (as in you only see the type to compose line and the keyboard itself)..well, is there a way to change or modify that so at least ill be able too see something over the type to compose screen?
Its really sucky when im on the msn app or sms app and i have to hide the keyboard ib order to see what was last sent to me

A system dump of a test rom has been released. Got special giggle Voice widgets and a new stock Launcher.

Screenshot shows new GVoice widgets and the new Launcher. Not any different, except more screens and an apparently customizable dock.

Isn't that screenshot just showing ADW Launcher, or something similar?

No. It's launcher2 from the G2 system dump.
This screenshot should show it a bit more; no home app has screen previews like Launcher2.

Only if you adb push it. ADW is configured as stock Android launcher on CM6 so you'll have to remove that to get this

hey can u post the link back up?
Is there any keyboard that will actually work, that i can calibrate and it wont freeze when im typing fast.
I put HTC_IME mod keyboard and it was alright until it froze constantly, swype requires me to look at the screen and the " android keyboard" is simply horrible.
can anyone link me to a keyboard similar to 2.1 that actually works for CM6?
Thank you

Smart Keyboard (Pro Version) is the best I've found so far. Try the free version and upgrade if you like it to get T9 capability. Can you post the apk file for that HTC_IME mod? I'd like to try that out!
@ Puffdaddy_d ; i'd be glad to if i still have it in my sd
And thanks ill try it, where can i get it ? ( too lazy to search or anything haha )
edit: nevermind found it in market
and i posted the .apk for you.
Thank you very much for the apk! I'll give it a try. Let me know if Smart Keyboard works out for ya!

I wonder if that HTC keyboard mod is really designed for the CDMA hero running froyo? It FC's the moment I try to load it. That sounds more like a complete incompatibility issue rather than being just "buggy". Do you know where you got it from?
My friend has database filled with apps and he put it on my phone via adb, it works just buggy actually.

Just tried installing this using an install manager instead of adb push and it's working flawlessly so far! I've got my HTC Keyboard BACK!!!
Too bad I can't get my $4 back from the market...
Better Keyboard works great. I think its 2 bucks on the market
try SwiftKey Beta, it's free and actually works on CM6 (I'm using it now!)
There was a setting on my G1 that allowed me to remove the zoom controls from the browser. Since the G2 has good multitouch, I have yet to use those controls. Its just taking up screen estate now. Is there any way to remove it?

Yeah. It's custom. I've only seen it on froyo since cm6. Firefox for Android went beta in the market. Anyone using that?

It's gotten better than it was, but it's stilll not nearly as fast as the stock browser (which is a shame - I really want to use Firefox Sync).
Certain things I actually like about the stock android keyboard. Does anyone have a link to an apk?
Man Im in the same boat I started a thread in the G2 forums to get it I was given some but no apk's work =(
I got one that actually shows but force closes and I would really love for someone to help us out here

Did you install it using a file manager or push it to /system/app? On my mt3g I had issues with jonasl's touch input keyboard force closing when i tried to push it to system when it was intended to be installed like a regular apk.
Make sense?
I used astro file manager ....how is the other way to push it?

Some keyboards have to be in /system/app and others need to be installed traditionally. That might be your issue.
yeah i havent had any luck yet with the stock android keyboard. but it doesnt support multi touch does it? but if u download smart keyboard in the market they have an android skin that kinda looks like the stock android keyboard. u might wanna try that.
I use ultra keyboard. Looks like the android keyboard but with multi touch. Plus you can customize the **** out of it. Great solution.

Please post questions in Q&A section.
That damn smiley key was driving me insane, so I got the Gingerbread keyboard source from AOSP, got it to compile, and got rid of the smiley face button. Other than that, it's identical to the stock Android gingerbread keyboard, so requires 2.3+. Eventually I may figure out how to make it able to be turned on and off, but that would rather defeat the point. Enjoy!
(Note: you have to enable it in the Keyboard settings before you can use it, just like any other keyboard.)
The Eclipse project (source) is available here.
this sounds like a good thing for me because it also became annoying to me.
quick question though because i cant check out the keyboard mod yet, but does it remove the smiley key completely, or does it replace it with an enter key or something?
soon as i get the chance, ill install and see for myself
Nice. I like that it has been replaced with the enter key instead. I find that to be immensely more useful.
I replaced it with the significantly-more-useful return key.

The smiley key doesn't annoy me per se, but the fact that the Enter key was removed does. So now, it is impossible to have any semblance of formatting in your SMS'es.
Will definitely give this a go as soon as possible. This is definitely a must have as far as I am concerned.
Thanks, but i've a problem with your keyboard.
I turned on the vibrate on keyboard settings, but there is no vibration when I push a key.

Hm. I didn't modify the keyboard in any way other than replacing the smiley key, so I have no idea what may be causing that.

It's probably because you've packaged up the WVGA keyboard file, and not the qHD version. The Sensation sports a higher res screen.

That would make sense, but I don't see why the same keyboard wouldn't work on all devices. I mean, looking at the code, I see nothing that would prevent scaling. I was never asked for a target screen size to compile for, nor do I see any way to enter it. If someone could explain a way to fix it, I would gladly rerelease a qHD-compatible version.

You should try and work it out that Long Press of the return key let's you select smileys. It's one of my favorite features of Perfect Keyboard. But non the less, good job.
