[Q] How do I backup/restore the entrie system? - XPERIA X8 General

Hi. I've recently got an X8, which is my first Android device. As I tend to customize and change everything I can reach (yes, I'm a Linux user , I updated to 2.1, gained root and started to explore the world of Android. Sadly, while editing the default theme, I managed to screw the system up to the point where it won't even boot anymore (although I still could access the shell via adb, but it wouldn't let me push files and I couldn't run su). I had to reinstall 2.1 via SEUS, which caused all of my settings and apps to disappear. I spent some hours to bring them back, and I would like to save the current state to prevent future failures. tl;dr: I'm looking for a way to backup and restore the whole system easily, any suggestions? A step-by-step guide is highly appreciated.
EDIT: I'm sorry, I apparently posted in the wrong forum but realized it too late. Please move to General.

install xrecovery and app2sd
when you mess something go to xrecovery\backup and restore\advanced restore\select your newest backup\restore system
when restore will be over, restart your phone and you will see all your apps and all your data like in setting or save game will not be deleted

after root, just install xrecovery to backup entire system..

or try backup with the default backup & restore app
2.1 system apps
simply download it and install as regular .apk

Best way to back up apps etc. before new ROM install

i have started to get very tired of every time i want to change ROM's or there is a update for a ROM im running which requires me to wipe, having to then re install all my apps, re add my accounts and set everything up again.
So i was wondering what is the best way to speed this process up, is there a way to back up the apps so they will all reinstall themselves? or maybe a way i can just import everything back after the new rom has installed.
I have tried a few backup apps on the market but they seem to slow the rom down after restoring everything, or cause alot of things to crash etc.
look for "backup for root users" in the marketplace. Should do what you want.
You have to remember that after restoring the backup, you have to run fix_permissions (terminal -> su -> fix_permission )
i made my own update zip to use stright after rom update
Look for Astro... This little app is free on the market and allows you to back up all your installed apps...

Backingup and migrating from villian 3.4 to 4.0

Ive been using villian 3.4 for a while now and have gotten it just the way i like it, i really want to move to 4.0 but i just find it so time consuming to install all the apps and change all the settings and add accounts etc, is there a backup program that will basically transfer everything over ?
Try Titanium Backup, donate version.
Install it from the market and make a batch backup of all user apps + system data.
Then reboot into recovery and make sure you don't forget to perform a nandroid backup (to be able to revert in case something goes wrong).
Now you can install the new ROM and then use Titanium Backup again, this time to restore apps, settings, market entries, the works...
Good luck!

Backup question

Hi!
I was a winmo user (samsung omnia) and I flashed the damn thing regularly, I mean like every week. So I had to reinstall everything from scratch. I don't want to be caught in that loop again, so I am asking you if it is possible to backup all my programs, data and settings and then just apply them after the flash.
Thank you very much, proud Legend user!
Backup contacts : hmm, you don't really have to do this, if you save your contacts on Google account, everytime you login to Google account on your phone, Contact list will be auto appear in People, even avatar pictures.
Apps : Use Astro File Manager to backup all apps in your phone, then flash another ROM, go to market to install Astro again, then backup apps from SD card.
Settings : hmm, I'm not sure you should do this, because everyrom is different, restore settings on this ROM to another ROM may damage your android. But you can always try Titanium Backup on Market.
Thanks! I am still wondering if I should flash because froyo is knocking on our doors.

Yeah froyo is really close, right after the desire the EVO 4G got its OTA.
So I'm expecting the update within 14days I would say a week but that might be to optimistic.

You can def.ly try Titanium Backup to get all your Apps + data backed up. You can also try My back up pro to back up your SMS and MMS along with your call log, Alarm and other application. With my back up pro you can back up to the SD card or online....
Titanium Backup requires root. You can also use MyBackup pro. You can use been root (with more features) or not been root (only backups apps, but not settings, what is not so good)
You can also use ROM Manager (free in the Market) to backup you full ROM and configuration: it will backup everything on SD Card (except your SD card and you can quickly recover old ROMs with full confuration and apps.
So le me get this straight, with rom manager I will be able to back up the entire Rom... cause if something goes wrong and can not update a newer rom, I can always go and choose my previous rom for the recovery screen....

Yes, and everything will be exactly as in the moment you did de ROM backup. It is like a full hard disk image in a PC.
But, consider this:
With ROM Manager, you can have as many backups as you want and you can recover any one of them. BUT, you need to be able to boot your Legend to be able to launch ROM Manager (because ROM Manager is an application)
So, if you meet problems starting up a new ROM, you will need to load any rooted working ROM to be able to start up and launch ROM Manager (need to be rooted to be able to run ROM Manager).
As far as I know, if you use a ROM with A2SD feature, apps will be stored in the EXT3 partition of the SD card, and those apps WILL NOT BE INCLUDED IN BACKUP. So, if apps stored in the EXT3 partition changed, you will need to recover those apps with Titatium Backup.
There is another way to do a full backup called NANDROID, but I do not like it so much:
power off Legend, push "Back" bottom and Power On, select BOOTLOADER, select RECOVERY, connect USB cable to your PC, run "recovery-windows.bat" from your PC (from the same directory you used to root your Legend) and you will be able to select NANDROID BACKUP.
With NADONDROID BACKUP you can do also a full ROM backup, but you can store and recover only ONE backup/last backup. In addition, you need a PC to be able to run it. So, that is not very nice.
ok i see... thanks for the info....

[Q] How to save before factory reset

Hi,
I don't know where I could ask this so I did it there... move the topic if it's not the good place, thanks.
I want to know on a STOCK (no root, no custom firmware) before a factory reset how to keep all savegame and datas from GAMES somewhere (like a SDCard or else)
because last time I did a factory reset I had to restart all from the start...
- Download all data for games (couples of megabytes)
- Restart all from level 1
Is there any application can help, or method ?
-----------------------------
seems possible to save with ADB
-----------------------------
DunDef :
Backup: adb pull /sdcard/DunDef/ sdcard/DunDef/
Restore: adb push sdcard/DunDef/ /sdcard/DunDef/
*************
but... I think need to be rooted to see all files for others and can push and pull all.
Note:
All method are welcome but I do prefer the genuine one.
Thanks by advance.

Titanium Backup can backup all apps+data and restore back to new ROM even freeze bloatware without delete it
But you will need to be root
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&feature=search_result
I just want backup the "save and data" from game, nothing else...
what folder have to be saved, how to get them back.
let say I want get my tablet like first day, then just reinstall freshly games, and play back right where I was before reset.
Not restore applications, datas, etc...
But I will check about this application anyway.
Thanks.
You don't have access to those files w/o root.
titanium backup do it best.. of course with root, but u can use mybackup pro.. i think it dont require root...
There is a free in the market called "favorite games backup." Not sure what games you're playing but that's what I use for Angry Birds...FYI it backs up to your SD card so it will survive a factory reset. Hope this helps.
Actually I find where was the saves...
they are hidden in data/data/... need to be root for read this directory.
do you have a direct link to the market of the favorite games backup application
I just searched in market for it and can't find it. Might not be compatable with honeycomb or might have been pulled. Can someone confirm...is it ok for me to post .apk if its a free app? I would be happy to do so.

[Q] Best way to use (Titanium)Backup

Hey guys,
I am currently trying out some ROMs and for that I wanna know how to restore my apps/data the quickest way. Got TitaniumBackup Pro and I tried to create a update.zip with my wanted apps for which I don't want to backup the data manually but instantly when I startup the new ROM. But the .zip install failed in TWRP after I flashed the ROM and GApps. Or is the update.zip not what I want for that?
But even when I recover the backup for some apps, some of them still kinda need some extra work like LightFlow or SwiftKey and the Facebook Messenger App. For example some of them need notification settings changed etc. Is there any way to avoid doing that every time?
Also, I know there was some change in the backup directory from 4.2 to 4.3 in TB where you have to change to legacy or something but why do I still have to do that when switching between 4.3 ROMs? Or can I fix that by deleting all my backup and doing another backup so it will be in the new "right" directory?
