Text message times incorrect - EVO Shift 4G General

Has anyone noticed the timestamps in texts being incorrect? I've gotten a few lately that were only off by a couple of minutes, but my reply shows the right timestamp. For example, I get a text at 11:03, but it shows it comes in at 11:05, and my reply goes out at 11:04 so it shows it before the message I was replying too.
I'm not roaming, so I don't think that's the cause (it tends to be quite a bit worse when roaming or with very little signal)

So far I haven't noticed that. It could be something to do with the other person's clock, if they're on roaming or using a 3rd party app that for whatever reason has the time wrong, or from a different carrier that has the time set differently than Sprint. I believe messages are time stamped as they are sent, just a theory.

well, considering the only person I've noticed it on (pretty much the only person i text regularly) is on Sprint, and works at the call center so she has very good service, that's probably not the issue. Although, I suppose since she's sending it from a blackberry that could be the issue.

It was just a thought. But they probably have a repeater in the building to boost the signal. Could be that, check and see if it happens when she isn't in the building. My sister has a BB with US Cellular and I double checked, I don't get that with hers. Maybe they don't time stamp on send, but when it is received.

didn't even think of the repeater...that could be the problem. I'm like 5 feet from a repeater right now lol. Which was why it was funny when I called tech support trying to get the thing activated and they all asked "do you have good service", so I told them I probably had better signal than they did.

When I worked for an answering service company a long time ago, my supervisor took me on a tour of the place. In their computer room they had all kinds of stuff in there. This was back in the day when alpha numeric pagers were popular. When we transcribed what the caller said to type out and send it to a pager, one of the computer devices in the computer room held messages until its buffer filled or a certain amount of time elapsed. Then it would send a group of messages all out at the same time. Maybe that's what is happening with sprints hardware. Its holding texts and buffering them then shoots them out all at once in a group instead of one by one. That's my guess.

I remember those days, lol. I'm not sure if there is a buffer or not, messages between my family all go straight though from what I can tell. Then again there are tons of messages sent every second, so maybe the buffer is filled quickly. It's a good theory.

Do you have the Airrave or Airvana unit? If the Airvana that's probably the issue. Supposedly they (who?, dunno?!) are working on a firmware fix for that. Doesn't happen to everyone with the Airvana unit, but it happens often enough to be troublesome.

I've had the same problem on my EVO and my shift. It is quite annoying when sending texts back and forth.
Ex. My friends text will say 11:06, but my clock says its only 11:05.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App

timestamps
They are wrong on mine, but so is the clock. I changed it manually. Problem solved, for me at least.

i get this where someone sends me a text, i reply, they reply to that afterwards but it gets put ABOVE my initial reply in the thread with them. blows my mind.

Text message thread issue

Hey guys,
I just recently bought my TD2 just over the weekend...and when receiving text msgs from my friends, there's this 4 hour difference in the time stamp. For example, I'll send a text msg at 10pm, and when I receive a text msg five minutes later, the time stamp will be 6:05pm.
Would anyone know what the issue would be? Cause I'm really stumped by this. I even sent text msgs to myself from my phone carrier's website and it's the same thing, the time stamp is 4 hours behind what it actually is..
Any suggestions or ideas is greatly appreciated. =)
I'm fairly sure the time stamp for incoming text messages is dependent on the time your service provider says it was sent, not the time your phone actually receives it. So if your network provider is based in a city with a different time zone your incoming text messages will be time stamped at the time the message was sent in said time zone, not your own.
I'm not sure if there are any settings to change this as I haven't really looked in to it a great deal. It's just kind of annoying and can make conversation threads kind of pointless.
my network provider is based in the same city as me, so there shouldn't be any discrepancy in terms of time zone.
I'm starting to think it's a WM6.1 bug or something like that. I've tried hard resetting it but it doesn't work. I've also tried putting in a different sim card from a different network provider and the issue is still there.
so..im stumped even more...
you could send a notification to HTC. I've been reading these forums for some time now and I haven't encountered anyone with the same problem. Or, then again, I might be mistaken ...
4 hours does seem a bit extreme. Do you have any friends on the same network as you? Can you check the time stamp on a message that you've sent to their phone to see if it shows the correct time?
I only say it's network dependent because I know that when my country has daylight savings time the timestamps for all of my messages get messed up, but when daylight savings time is over it's fine.
It depends on the service provider.
Some service provider use the time the msg is pushed to your phone, while others use the time when the message is sent. So, if your sender is in a different time zone, there may be a time difference.
I've checked with friends that are on the same service provider. The text msgs i send them have the correct time.
I even send myself a text msg to see and it'll be the same thing again. sending it to myself is just as mind boggling cause i receive my own msg right away, and time stamp is 4 hours behind still. -_-;;;
Did u set any "Visiting Time"? I never encountered this since I bought my TD2 last month. Guess it could be related to service provider?

No, I believe you can only set either Home or Visiting Time...
I flashed my phone with cooked roms hoping that bring it to WM6.5 would fixed the issue, but it hasn't worked...
Is your problem solved yet? I've the same problem and I've done everything nothing works, I guess i've to live with it. Mine shows 40 mins difference which is very annoying.
no luck at all.
I just played around with the time zone settings. i just put the time zone setting to est-1 since it's est -5 where i am. and then i just brought the time back 4 hours and it matched...but aside from that..nope..nothing.

Am I the only one with SMS issues? v.ArriveOutOfOrder

The following happens no matter which ROM I use. Stock, fresh, modaco. I'm currently on fresh .6 (includes RM). Before that I had the stock ROM with MR update.
My PRL is up to date.
Happens with Handcent, Chomp and stock Messages app.
Problem:
When have a text conversation via SMS the arriving text are received out of order, some come on time, other come minutes later making the conversion impossible to follow. When they finally do arrive they are correctly sorted.
So let's say that I have a conversation that should look like: (just an example)
Me: Hi
Them: Hey whats up?
Me: Going to the game.
Them: Yeah I'll be there in 10 minutes
Me: Can you send me directions?
Them: Just did.
Me: thanks
But it will read like:
Me: Hi
Me: Going to the game.
Them: Yeah I'll be there in 10 minutes
Me: Can you send me directions?
Them: Hey what's up?
Them: Just did.
Hard to explain but then the sms get sorted correctly after a second and if they said something in a long convo that I'd have to scroll up for I'd never see it.
It's weird I know I'm getting thoem sometimes because my phone will go nuts with ringers, tell me I have 4 new messages but I only see two. 30 seconds later they appear in the conversation. Usually I get the latest ones first, then the older ones come through.
It is SO frustrating. If it's not one thing with this phone it's another.
Has anybody heard of this?
call sprint, see if they can disable your texts and then reenable them on your account, i had a similar issue with my texts.. it wasn't exactly like that, but I'd get like 1/3 then 3/3and a minute later almost 2/3 would appear, and my texts would go like older than their old texts... once they did that they work perfectly now

Yup. It has to be something with your account. Have them do what nelson said or re-provision your phone.
I live in Chicago and we don't get Sprint service while underground on the train. When I get back into range, 20 minutes later a missed text will magically appear, but strangely it is stamped with the correct time.
Is it possible that you are in an area of spotty service?

That behavior ir reasonable and expected; but, no, this happens to me in areas of near-perfect reception like my home where I have all but one bar most of the time.
Also, I believe the timestamp's embedded as metadata in each SMS message which puts it in the right place on any phone, smart, dumb, new old etc.
yeap, I have the same problem here... Do you happen to live in MST?
I'm in Scottsdale and randomly I'll have messages timestamped exactly one hour behind. From what I've heard it's a Mountain Standard Time issue. My issues started when Daylight Savings Time started. It's rather annoying tbh, but its completely random.
Hrm, I had it happen to me last night, and I'm in Scottsdale too.
Happens to me as well. I'll randomly get a text that shows up timestamped 1 hour behind. I'm in Goodyear.
Hearing about this on other forums as well. Seems to be mostly AZ people with the problem.
thats funny. my wife and I have this same issue. i'm in east mesa. definitely AZ issue.
Aren't you guys the ones that *don't* do anything for daylight savings? If so, I wonder if that has anything to do with things...
I have the same problem and im in sioux city, iowa...mine does not do it all the time just everyonce in awhile tho
This also happens to me.. I live in Howell, NJ and it was also happening to me on a recent trip to Mountain View, CA.
Me too , I'm in Orange, ca.
I am an az guy and also have this issue. Htc knows about it and so does sprint. When they will fix it no one knows.
If you dl handcent it fixes it even tho the times will still be screwed up on some of the texts.
I'm also in AZ (Tucson) and having the SMS time stamp issue as well. It doesn't seem to be very wide spread unfortunately. I've searched a few forums and have only seen a post or two about it. Kind of makes me wonder if Sprint/HTC will do anything about it...
In Tucson, AZ here too and having the same problem. Holy crap it's annoying.
Download handcent and it will fix the issue until sprint/htc fix it.

I experience the problem with handcent as well.
Yup, still happens with Handcent but it looks like it at least displays them in order received... at least that I've noticed.
I was in SoCal last week and when ppl from the east coast would sms me it would put the conversations in order by their local time, i.e. my replies were behind theirs even though it was a newer text. Handcent.

Getting message failed but message keeps sending [asop mms / airrave]

So lately I have ran 2 different roms and at certain times i will send an sms message, and the phone will say "message sent failed", but the person says they get the message and my phone keeps trying to send the message and going through but says failed on my end
anyone else have this issue?
I have narrowed it down to probably asop mms apk or my airrave

I had the same thing happen the other day. I'm running Fresh 3.2, Handcent and I have an Airave. I think the Airave is the problem.
Yah I have the same exact problem....I have the new airvana airave....
This doesn't happen all the time...its just sometimes....although I cant pinpoint how or when it happens...
Its happening right now though...which sucks...
Same here, Sprint AirAve, Failed messages etc.
What to do??
Ok, I just called airave support and they ran me through the basic tests like testing my broadband connection and resetting my airave device. I've done this before so I'm pretty damn sure this wont help.
They did mention for the about two weeks Sprint has had a lot of airave outages and that Sprint is working on fixing it.
Ok here is a bad update:
So my problem still exists and I called up Sprint again. They go through factory resetting my phone (not sure what this means...since I am rooted with Ava ROM 9)....so I go through with the reset and they re-provision my phone (I think they changed the msid number or something else). Then they also did something to the airave... My phone still works but the airave doesn't. I can now, no longer make a call through the airave.
The Sprint tech support agent put in a ticket and would call me back tomorrow.....lets hope this gets fixed tomorrow.
I have also had this happen to me several times and I am totally stock. So if anyone gets an answer, let us all know. Thanks.
I would get this error when trying to send a message with content larger than 2mb, I have since upgraded my zone rom that allows for 5mb and my problem is gone.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

Ok, but an average text message is not 2mb....
Ok, so they call back to get it fixed today....now when I turn on my Airvana unit and let it initialize the mobile light blinks amber, and the gps light blinks green as if it cant get a gps lock.
The tech support specialist again mentioned there was an airave outage.
There are also a few people on the sprint.com community site that are experiencing the same issues.... although I'm not sure if they are using evos or some other phone.

I've got an airave (newest model) unit with 2 EVOs in the home. My girlfriend constantly experiences this and she is running bone stock. I've got a stock rom rooted and have never experienced this problem. We've narrowed it down to the airave - she also has issues were sometimes an incoming call will not receive on her phone if she is already on it (call waiting).
Seems to me like these airave unit are having lots of problems... I ended up disconnecting mine and both phones act normal.
Ever since I got the NEW airvana this started happening to me, it only happens when im sending multiple sms to one person or multiple people. Says it cant send, but person im sending to says they get that message that isnt being sent like 20-100 times, the quick fix is a reboot of the phone. I got sick of it and last week called airave support and they opened a ticket which was monday last week. Called back thursday night b/c the modem light wont stop blinking and they told me there was a national outage on the new airvanas so she said by the next day everything should be resolved even the issue with the sms not sending.
Today is sunday and im not getting the issue anymore but i will keep texting heavy and see whats going on. although I gotta say sprint did give me a good return on my bill for this
Ok, I called airave tech support again and they said that the outage in my area should be fixed by 12am tomorrow....so I'll wait till tomorrow morning and see if it works again.
Ok, well the blinking amber "mobile" light is now a solid green....which I guess means the device is working....but when my EVO is connected and I try to make a phone call out it gives me the message "if you would like to make a collect call....." and if I try to send a text it just fails.
I called up Sprint again, they make me run through more tests with my phone...even one weird one where I had to disconnect the battery and hold the phone and the battery right next to the airave.....not sure what effect this has to fixing anything....but w/e I had spare time to waste . They did mention again that there was an airave outage. They tell me to reboot the airave and to let it sit for 2-4 hours since its going to re-provision....so thats what I am waiting for now.
idk, if this is related, but I have the same issue with sending texts in google voice. Although for me, I have the issue randomly when connected to a regular cell tower.
Ok another update....its really the same as my previous update.
So bascally the sprint tech never called me bac....so I called them back and got a different rep....the new rep goes through the same steps to get everything to work but still no luck. I still get the same error when I make a phone call. She did mention that there is a nationwide outage with voice calls with the airave and that 50% of customers are not able to make voice calls.
I am now using a samsung epic and I'm still having problems. So its not the evo or the epic with the issue, it has to be my number and/or (most likely) the airave and its service.
The funny thing is I have another line with a samsung a900 phone and I can make calls with that phone without any issues through the airave.
Ok, my airvana unit still doesn't work. Anyone else have a working Airvana unit..???
This is pretty horrible its been more than a week where my Airvana unit will not make phone calls....

I am also having loads of Airave (Airvana model) issues, on all 4 lines in my house... failed texts.. and calls.. etc.. I usually keep it unplugged now, and turn it on once a week to see if the issues have been fixed... Sux because when it works, it works AWESOME... But I have lots of friends and family who have gotten 20 or 30 texts from me at once.. It kinda makes me giggle, but it would suck if they were paying for them..
I also am expirencing the same problems as you all on brand new the new model (airvana?) its really annoying!
Running: GM6 final, nightlys, and Fresh seems to happen on all of them
I made numerous calls to airave tech and made like 4 tickets with them. Finally an engineer called me and asked me specifically when I'm getting the issue and what is the issue. I explained and for some reason these last week or so all my texts have been going thru smooth and no error clause codes, or unable to send message errors of any sort. I'm hoping they fixed the issue, I advise everyone that is having this issue to call them and attack them with phone calls.
Here's the direct number to airave support: 866-556-7310 call them and attack people its the only way they will fix it

Texts coming in <<160chars

I just bought my EVO last week, and can't figure out why SMS messages are coming in as small chunks, in jumbled order. This isn't just splitting up at a 160char limit. I'll get the first 40 chars, then chars 80-140, then 41-79, then 141-160. etc
What is going on?
Never heard of that problem
Swyped From Eva Running Myn's RLS4!
Leave it to me to uncover a new error! Can't even find anything about this in a Google search.
I am occasionally having the same problem. I am using shadySMS so I thought it was related to that program. Are you using the stock messaging app?
No, I prefer Handcent but the stock messaging app does the same thing
The other thing that happens is that I wont get any texts for a while. And then all of sudden I will get multiple texts all at once. It's almost like the phone is not polling or connecting or whatever and then it connects and downloads everything. I wonder if this is related.

I don't think I'm having that problem. Texts seems to come in real-time. So maybe that is unrelated. Never know, though.
probably just spotty service during the Holidays.
I'm with Cricket (piggybacks off Sprint) in Raleigh and have been having some wonky SMS behavior as well.
I'm not sure how spotty service would cause texts to come in, in small batches. And a strong coincidence it began when I switched from a HTC Hero to HTC Evo
XDA, I am disappoint!
No one has heard of this problem?
Ok so now I'm not even getting text messages >160chars. I called sprint and they had me turn off the phone for 3 mins while they reset something on their end and still - I only get short texts.

[Q] Text messages get garbled with old messages?

Every couple of days, I get a text message from my girlfriend (she uses an iPhone 4 on Verizon) where the first half of the message is one thing and halfway through it appends a completely different, older text message. For example, this one came in 4 days ago:
"I wanna do something cool during the day tomorrow, like Enchanted Rock or something, so bring proper outdoor workout attire or shorts if we just go to Lought of losing it gets me so scared haha. <3 It"
In this case, the first message should have read "I wanna do something cool during the day tomorrow, like Enchanted Rock or something, so bring proper outdoor workout attire or shorts if we just go to Lockhart or something" but it appended an old message halfway through where she was telling me about the thought of losing her ring that I bought her, scares her.
I looked at that particular message detail and it says it was sent at 7:00PM and received at 6:59PM on Feb. 22, which makes no sense. The second message that it appended was from many many days before (I scrolled through back as far as I could to Jan 30 and never found that conversation we were having about her losing her ring, so it must have occurred before then).
I am using my Nexus 4 with a monthly T-Mobile sim on the $30 plan (unlimited text, unlimited data (5GB), 100 minutes talk). I get terrible reception in my apartment which is where I am at most of the time when she sends me messages, so I thought maybe that had something to do with it. I have not noticed this issue with anyone else yet, but honestly I don't really text much with anyone else, and those messages that I do send/receive are never very long compared to what she sends me. I am curious if anyone else has seen this problem and if it is a service-related issue or a phone issue.

I have the exact same problem... I'll do you one better and say that I randomly don't get text messages either. Same exact situation as you. She's in Verizon with an iphone and I have the $30 prepaid with t-mobile. I have tried everything under the sun and cannot fix the problem... Its really starting to tarnish my view on the phone and the $30 plan... If you've found any solutions please let me know.

If you're having this issue with only one sender, the issue is far more likely to be the sender's phone, carrier, or the third party the carrier uses for intercarrier SMS than your own phone. Having the sender contact their customer support is generally the best option.
Only if you're having the issue with multiple (or all) senders on multiple carriers including your own is it likely that your phone or carrier is at fault.
recover text message from iPhone
I'll take you through all the possibilities of recovering the text messages from iPhone.
=> Check for iCloud backup if you have any so that you can restore the SMS saved on iCloud.
=> Check for iTunes backup. Download and install the free software "iPhone Backup Extractor" and launch the app. It will automatically search for any backups on your computer.
=> Check for your lost text message in Windows/Users/Contacts folder. There are times when iTunes saves the text messages in this folder.
Hope one of these methods will help you.
