Unlocking your phone and sync apps...it works!!!! - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Ok guys...This is what i did to Unlock succesfully my WP7-HD2 using Chevron..
These are the steps i made and it worked just fine and i deployed my apps succesfully on my device:
0.5)Type regedit in start/Run and find this key...
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsPhone \ProxyPorts]“DeviceReg”=dword:000069C5
I personally deleted this key and remade it... It's a 32 bit Dword value..Right click, New, Dword value... add this in Data Value -> 69C5
and press ok! Rename the file to "DeviceReg" without the quotes.
1) Open Notepad with Administrative rights using right click and open as Administrator. Go to FILE/OPEN and paste this on the search bar
i.For Windows NT and Windows 2000
a.C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc
AND
ii.Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7
a.C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
2)Double click Hosts file...
It should open in Notepad..
3)At the end of the page you will see 192.168.10.1 Windows Phone (or something like that)...Remove this and save the file by pressing FILE/SAVE..
It should be saved just fine..
4)Plug your phone to usb and go to device manager..
Uninstall: Windows Phone usb from there and unplug the phone..
5)Restart the computer.........
6)Make sure you have Windows Updates enabled... When you plug the phone in Windows should say that usb device doesn't work and you need to isntall the drivers... Press Install and wait....
7)Drivers should be installed from Microsoft...Now go to Zune and sync the device...
8)Make sure you isntall the Cetification to your device via email!
Open Chevron, check both boxes and press Unlock...You are done...
9)Open Market place from PC and download something....Check the 3 boxes and Press deploy..It should now say "connecting with phone" and after that "sending file"
ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Results may vary but it worked for me!
Special thanks to member "eried" for his time yesterday!

Can't get past 8.
Chevron can't connect: Oh oh message. Before Chevron did start but could not connect while trying to unlock again.
Even now the phone is off flight mode, zune is telling that the phone has no internet while the phone have internet.
Had everything working but after update to 7004 by zune nothing is working anymore. Tried everything i read and have much experience with modding devices.

As i told the results may very...
I also know about modding devices since my Sony Ericsson W800 and all Sony devices i owned after it and Iphone which i sold before 4 months to get my HD2...
Anw...I had strange problems with Chevron... I unlocked it like 4 times and after that it says can't connect with my device.. Also Market places didn't work in the first place... Now with this guide i made i succesfully unlocked my device and deployed 5 apps already on my phone..
And also try this on your pc:
Type regedit in start/Run and find this key... [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsPhone \ProxyPorts]“DeviceReg”=dword:000069C5
I personally deleted this key and remade it... It's a 32 bit Dword value..Right click, New, Dword value... add this in Data Value -> 69C5
and press ok! Rename the file to "DeviceReg" without the quotes.
When you are done with this try again the guide from the begining!

ok, thanks for your help, had the registerkey already checked, did your workaround again but stuck by 8. Chevron Oops...
Thanks anyway

5. open a command prompt, type netstat -a to confirm that port 443 is not being used
6. open an admin command prompt, navigate to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ then type notepad hosts and delete any references to windowsphone developer services
7. go to the settings on the phone and turn airplane mode on (so that the phone is forced to use internet via zune)
8. While the phone is still on the settings page, run Chevron with admin privileges

Set the time and date of the phone and computer back to like 1/10/2011 and it should work.
For some reason the spoof'ed developerservices.windowsphone.com address to your local machine rejects the HTTPS 443 request if the date is correct. I think it was a built in kill switch by the original devs of ChevronWP7. Because the program can tell whether if the phone is pin-locked or not and will display a message accordingly meaning it definitely has a connection.
Setting the date back seems to have no effect here. I changed the date of the computer and the phone to the 1st of january 2011. Reconnected the phone, waited until sync to zune finished and retried. Still the same problem.

Thanks! Was the developer services in the HOSTS file that fixed for me.
it work properly for me ... if you sync with zune its automatickly broke the chevron unlock... just go step by step and you can unlock your phone withou connection issus usb error...GL & HF
what helps is just to sync for example one mp3 with zune before,t hen run chevron
doesn't works for me :s :s
How do you clear port 443? And how do you delete the host file after typing in cmd.exe?
yes....i do it....but...it's the same error...aaarrrhhhhh....
For two days the same error....I can not understand why, and I have done everything ... sure ...
please, help me...
P.S.
My os is a 64 bit, but i tried also a 32 bit so....windows 7 ultimate in both case...
i think its enught try this step:
connect hd2 to pc via usb ,
zune start and sync.
you must have UNLOCKED SCREAN not black screen not lock screan!!
your devie must be on.
navigate to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts double click and open with NOTEPAD...
look down and REMOVE!!!!!all this text from the host file:
192.168.1.102 developerservices.windowsphone.com

192.168.1.102 developerservices.windowsphone.com
192.168.1.102 developerservices.windowsphone.com
if its removed put X to close the notepad, its open dialog windows and you click to yes save it.
after that go to chewron and run as administrator
and just unlock the device
for me it worked only when I closed all the messenger clients (skype, ym, oovoo, live), not only skype...you can try this too
Very helpful, Im assuming it worked because it gave me the option to "relock" the phone?
Doesn't change anything for me with Xp pro. Always same error but it's certainly normal caus' i'm not able to instal wP7 sdk
Success!
My problem was that I had no internet connection in Zune.
I only use my Android phone to tether to the internet, and this whole time I wasn't tethered online.
It seems Zune MUST have an internet connection, and the phone MUST be in airplane mode for this to work.

[Best Solution] ChevronUnlocker connection issue.

Drakosha said:
Hello to all!
I think, I've finally found the reason why Chevron almost never works. After a few days of struggle, I managed to successfully unlock my HD2 three times in a row, all by the same trick.
The idea is to change the IP which Chevron emulates DURING the process of jailbreak. Here's step-by-step.
1 - Disable LAN card in your PC (Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections\ right click on "Local Area Connection" and choose "disable"). It is very important to disable ALL connections, but you MUST remember which one is used for Internet access (see below, why).
2 - Do all the standard steps of unlock - install certificate, start WPConnect e.t.s. When Chevron fails to unlock - LEAVE IT OPEN.
3. Start Notepad and open hosts. Delete lines added by Chevron (at the bottom). Save. LEAVE NOTEPAD OPEN.
4. Press Win+R and enter IPConfig /flushdns , press "enter". CMD window will blink for a second - that's normal.
5. Press Win+R again (there will be IPConfig /flushdns typed already), but DO NOT PRESS "ENTER", just leave this window open.
6. Now the trick. Start WPConnect. WHILE it connects, continue to repeatedly press "Unlock" button in Chevron, until the black CMD window of WPconnect disappears. Chevron will fail to do its job, but that's in fact is the very thing we need.
7. Now, do not touch Chevron window, just return to Network Connections and ENABLE yor LAN card.
8. Go to Notepad and JUST CLICK "Save", do not alter anything inside.
9. Return to the window with the typed command IPConfig /flushdns . Press Enter.
10. Start WPConnect, WAIT until it disappears, and press "Unlock" button in Chevron. You're done - this time unlock would work.
At least, it worked for me 3 times in a row, while NO other ways worked.
Best regards - Draco.
P.S. If you have firewall - disable it before doing anything.
P.P.S. Win7 from NAND + MDJ Desire HD 4.4 from SD = best phone in the world

I have followed other guides posted here before, but none is as reliable as this one. Flawless. (Note that Zune is not required at all during this process, WPConnect is used)
Extra precautions :
1) Make sure port 443 is not used. You can open command prompt and type netstat -aon. From there, check which ip ends with 443 and check its PID number.
Once you have acquired the PID, go to command prompt and type tskill <PID number>.
2) Close skype.
3) Turn off your antivirus / firewall.
4) Make sure that during executing WPconnect.exe you're phone should NOT in be in sleep-mode/locked.
5) Make sure your host file located in C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\ is not read-only.

Thanks for the guide.
I am a noob.. so... what is WPConnect? Sorry for the stupid question.
Thanks in advance.

WPconnect is an executable used to connect your PC to wp7 devices without having to open ZUNE.
You can find out more about it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10609273#post10609273
I test all solution, why not these one? I will reflash WP7 and test
Thanks for the TIP !
Ok.. now I know.. but the major problem is that I have Windows Xp.. so no chance to try tha trick... :-(
As I click on WPConnect.exe it just blinks for 1 second an closes then. What am I doing wrong?!

Can you read what is says in the window before it closes? Usually WPconnect just opens for 2-3 seconds and after a connection is established it will close back. If it says "Connection is established" or something like that, means you're good to go.
Read the steps carefully.
Ahah, i remove WP7 from my device but i test WPConnect, got the same problem... So i made a quickscreenshot, to see the error message, this is it !!
or this one!
yeah, that's just the same as I get when running WPConnect.
Yes but does it solve your problem?
I post 2 screenshot;
-Compltly close Zune
-Connect the device
Here's what i did, connect the phone to PC via USB, let zune opens and sync. Then close zune. Rune WPconnect.exe. It should say "Trying to establish a connection with blablabal" then "Connection established" and it will close. Try that.

You mean you dont have WP7 on your HD2 and you try WPconnect with it? That wont work. Anyways also make sure you're not in sleep mode or lock mode when you use wpconnect.

Hum, only (no lock--> set to never..)
I did, step by step what |OP| Posted !
I got so excited when I found this particular thread. Of all the hacks and mods for Chevron out there this one seemed to be the most realistic solution. I have to XP machines. I managed to install Windows Phone Development Tools on one(everything works except emulator and debuger) I downloaded the WPDTOctober2010Update_en.msp, and insured it installed to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDK's\Windows Phone\v7.0\Tools\WPConnect.exe.(REBOOTED)
After I set up my HD2(again) Followed all the sugested settings, and downloaded Chevron cert via WIFI email. I began the steps on the 1st post.
1) I disabled all connections
2) I plugged in phone and through file explorer double clicked on WPConnect.exe and I got this error
" C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDK's\Windows Phone\v7.0\Tools\WPConnect.exe is not a valid Win32 application."
I bet if I had WINDOWS 7 this would not be the case. Any help, advise solutions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do all of that and you should have a working phone that is unlocked.
1. Install WP7 sdk Windows Phone Developer Tools; done
2. Install zune;done
3. Make partneship with zune and phone;done
4. Attach the ChevronWP7.cer(you found in the toolkit) to your email and send the email to your email itself (On PC);done
5. Login to your email account (On Phone), Open the email, Select attachment and install the cert;done
6. Connect your phone to pc and make sure zune is running in background;done
7. Run the unlocker (ChevronWP7.exe) and click unlock button(Make sure your phone date is set correctly)done
(you need to close skype and disable network adapter.. hamachi.. wireless.. Dropbox.. etc)done
still locked
Are you doing a full hard reset and then reinstalling the certificate? It should work after the PortalUrlProd and PortalUrlInt values get returned to the default.
yes I have done by pushing + and - volume button
solution
the default year in WP7 is 2010 it took me a while to realize i was forcing the phone due to the date.
small thing easy to overlook hope it helps
edit: with the correct date phone should unlock

On #5 did you use touchXplorer to copy that file to Windows directory?
Remember Zune will lock you HD2 everytime you connect your usb. use the crack in this forum to prevent that.
are you using windows XP?
Also try putting chevronwp7.exe in the root of your c: drive and run as administrator. I've seen people say that it isn't necessary, but I had to.
Also if you're using vista or windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled.
besides turning off the firewall, i turned off the windows defender service.
It might do the trick.
Solved
Thanks to everybody
My problem is solved.
Like audit angel was saying the default year is 2010, and the solution was there for me.
When I changed the year to 2011 Chevronwp7 did his job.

Noob friendly unlock and update to Mango unlocked how-to

Feb 2012: This guide is somewhat obsolete now, because of WindowsBreak project. A simpler unlock guide is in posted here and a complete unlock + Internet Sharing guide is here.
I did this guide as I didn't find a complete noob guide, up to date and with all links in one place.
Noob friendly unlock and update to Mango (keeping Chevron unlock) how-to
Prequisites and must read/understand before proceeding:
Zune 4.7 might be needed, I'm not sure 4.8 works. Uninstall 4.8 and install 4.7 if unsure (and don't update it).
Micro SD card: If you want to install a micro SD card, you have to do it before step 2 (recommended after flashing 7004 - step 1). Also recommended to format the card beforehand with FAT32 (32K or 64K clusters). Then hard reset the phone from Settings/About/"Reset your phone" or the 3 buttons combo (see Focus wiki). When a new micro SD card is added, the phone requests a hardware reset to recognize it and properly work.
Flashing: doesn't affect in any way phone's functioning as long as it's not interrupted in mid process or the phone doesn't have a hardware fault. Recommended to flash the phone on a laptop or a PC+UPS. You can backup your current firmware so you can restore if needed. Flashing, downgrading, upgrading firmware etc does not affect Network Unlock. Once your phone is unlocked to any network, it will remain so, regardless of flashing firmware.
Remember, if you hard reset (in Mango - or any WP7 OS version), you will lose Chevron unlock (ability to deploy XAPs) and to get it again you will have to re-do all the unlock process above.
You can use hard reset to revert to "factory" settings
Optional: To deploy XAPs, Windows Phone Developer Tools is no longer a requirement (about 3 GB). W.I.N.C.O.'s mini SDK WP7 is a smaller solution (4 mb instead of 3 GB - see point 3 below.)
0. (optional) Backup your current firmware, PC program and steps read here.
1. Flash AT&T or Rogers ROMs (7004) from this thread (note: 1st post links no longer valid, new links here)
Personally I recommend Rogers, as it's cleaner: doesn't have the AT&T apps & customization/logo etc. If you're unsure how to do ROM flashing, read my post here (I referenced AT&T "Cetus" ROM there, so replace "Cetus_ATT" with "Rogers").
1b. (optional) Add the micro SD card and do a hard reset (Settings/About, press "Reset your phone"). For compatibility, read this thread or the Focus wiki.
2. Unlock with Chevron, program, steps and video tutorial here
2b. Please note: the Chevron certificate has expired on 25 November 2011. To still be able to use it do this: mail the certificate to yourself. Open it on the mail in the phone, click on the certificate and when the "shield" appears, close it, don't install it. This just insures that the certificate has been downloaded to the phone, so you won't need internet connection to install it later. Now, disconnect the PC from internet, and set the date on PC prior to 25 Nov 2011. Then, set the same date on the phone and put the phone in Airplane mode. Then, install the Chevron certificate. After this, reconnect the PC to Internet and use Chevron to unlock.
3. To deploy (install) XAPs, download and install W.I.N.C.O.'s mini SDK WP7 and then wXapAssistant
3b. Optional/alternate method of 3): if you already installed Windows Phone SDK, you can use Phone7Market on PC from here to deploy XAPs. Once installed, in the folder you have "wp7-deploy.exe" which you can use to deploy/install XAPs, ie wp7-deploy.exe full_path_to_XAP\XAP.XAP, as in:
wp7-deploy.exe C:\WP7\New_SMS_Unlock.xap
4. Immediately after unlocking, install and run Samsung Tools from here, to prevent relock
Check all checkboxes and reset.
4b. (optional) In Dialer, dial ##634# , this should open Diagnosis v929 (just for checking)
5. Install WP7 Root Tools from here
6. Deploy New_SMS_Unlock.xap from here
7. Run WP7 Root Tools on the phone, and in Explorer tab, create a folder "provxml" in the root directory. Now go inside "Applications" subfolder, then inside "Install" subfolder and locate folder "D19A....". Inside, find the "unlock.xml" file. Tap and hold and press "Copy". Then navigate back to "provxml" folder you created, go inside and press "Paste", and see if you have the "unlock.xml" file in it.
Please note: you won't be able to see the "unlock" option in Diagnosis by typing *#9908# until Mango (Rogers) or NoDo/Mango (AT&T).
8. Connect the phone in Zune and update the phone all the way to Mango (7720/7740/later). Keep in mind that if you do this with Zune 4.7 you will have to update to Zune 4.8 now to be able to sync. That's ok.
9. In Mango, uninstall Diagnosis app (if you installed it).
10. Open Diagnosis again by typing ##634# in Dialer. When in Diagnosis type *#9908# . Select "unlock" (should be the last item) and press "Save". It should say "Loading GPRS..."and you can exit Diagnosis.
10.b (optional) If you want to be extra sure, you can re-do step 4 again for good measure.
Congratulations, you are now unlocked in Mango!
Important:
In case something happens and your phone gets re-locked, just run only step 10+10b and you will be unlocked again.
Optionally, you can do Interop unlock, read here. Alternatively, you can enable Internet Sharing+Interop unlock (2 in 1, in the file "DiagProvXMLv0.91_IS.xap") from here (run "DiagProvXMLv0.91_IS.xap", go to "iso store" tab, press and hold "Interop Unlock" then press and hold "Internet Sharing"). You will also need to deploy a fix for the 3G: "Samsung Repair 3G by Heathcliff74.xap" from here if you do Internet Sharing.
This has been tested to work on AT&T and Rogers Focus with hardware revision 1.3, might work in 1.4.
To check what hardware revision you have, either look under the battery or check my post/thread here.
Don't forget to press Thanks on the original tool/thread poster!
Thank you very much. I was looking for exactly such post/article. I have Zune 4.8 already installed. Can I go ahead with it?

Sure, please try. No worries, if it doesn't work, just uninstall it and install 4.7
I have reached till step 7. I have now copied "unlock.xml" to a new folder "provxml" in root folder.
Before proceeding further, I want to confirm one thing. I did *#9908# while still at 7004 in diagnostic app. I do not see unlock option. Is this normal? Is it only visible once I am at Mango?
If yes, then I can upgrade to Mango without any worry.

Yes, it's normal. Diagnosis doesn't support the unlock until Mango. Will add this info to the guide too. Thanks for testing!
Thanks again. I will go ahead and let know the result for others. Hope it finishes without any issues

Chevron is quite an iffy program, please make sure you respect the steps there exactly and also check the video tutorial. Also, best way to achieve that is to close all programs running and re-try unlocking. Skype for example interferes with the unlock process.

Have followed all the steps including changing the date and all.. I have done it before with success. Had to hard reset the phone, hence trying to unlock again. Will try rebooting the system and have a go at it again..

I also had a problem Saturday when I updated my SD from 16 GB to a 32 GB one. Initially Chevron didn't work, it worked after I connected the laptop to internet and restarted Zune. Also, make sure the date is prior to 25 November (try 1 Oct 2011, that worked for me) on both devices.

Got it... Need to be connected to the internet.. Thanks a lot for the help!!
I have finished updating to Mango and I was able to unlock Focus. So I can confirm that all works even if Zune 4.8 is used for each step. Yahoo!!
I haven't done Interop-unlock yet, I will do it soon. But that also should work without any issues.
Edit: Does the limit remains unlimited for applications? And is there any additional step(s) required to keep it unlocked similar to the one which was done by running Samsung tools?
thank you for the thread EnderPsp...this is what i was looking for...
i think i dont need to do the 1st step as i am already on 7004 and just got the phone from ATT.
I installed zune 4.8, installed developer sdk from MS, installed the certificate in phone by changing the dates. Now when i connect the phone to pc, and run chevron in admin mode with the phone on home screen and zune running, it opens up, i check the 2 boxed and then it says problem communicating with the device - make sure you are connected via USB, etc etc...i guess this is a common problem but i am unable to find any solution...i tried many times but it shows the same error...
Your help highly appreciated..

Try this:
- install the Samsung drivers from here
- set the date to 1 Oct 2011 and disconnect the PC from internet
- set the same date on the phone and do a hard reset. Re-enter your live id and e-mail (to where you sent the Chevron certificate) and install the certificate, then set the phone to Airplane mode
- reboot and once windows loads don't open any program, and close the ones automatically started (YM, Skype etc)
- connect PC to internet, start Zune and try to unlock in Chevron
Let me know if that works for you. Keep in mind that on a 64 bit OS it might be harder to unlock.

Either of these
- this method
- the developer unlock for $99 or whatever it is these days
- Chevron labs token for $9, but that's not always working (depending on the phone and revision...)
You can always backup first and try this. Worst case scenario you'll revert back.

This guide allows you to unlock, IF you flash. If you are in Mango you can't unlock using this guide unless you do the flash downgrade, but the other 2 methods should work.
You backup from the tool specified in the link and you restore using Zune, as the backup is created to be accessed and used by Zune.
currently flashing 7004 rom from the given link...will post with updates..
im done...now on mango and able to deploy xap's....is there any limit for the number of xap's i can install ?
Thank you
