Paragon Kernel
Based on speedmod k13a kernel.
Hardcore deserves all the credit here for the awesome speedmod kernel. I have taken his kernel and added OC/UV support and compiled several different versions. The default paragon kernel is OC to 1.2ghz with HZ set to 100hz. No OC by default. Turn on from voltage control app.
From Hardcore's 'What is speedmod kernel page':
- Based on JPX Froyo kernel source code
- 340MB RAM
- Voice calls: audio works with standard stereo headphones and phone mic
- Voice calls: louder earpiece volume and tweaked mic gain to reduced distortion
- Recordings: corrected mic gain to remove audio distortion from video recordings
- Slight boost to rear speaker volume level
- Improvements to FM radio sound quality
- Headphone output boost with support for Voodoo Sound application
- Improved sharpness: enabled AMOLED mode in MDNIE processing
- Superb text clarity: Removed over-sharpening of the screen
- Better colors
- Enhanced version of sztupy's Universal Lagfix
- Safest ext4 mount options
- Supports ext2 / ext3 / ext4 / ext4nj / jfs lagfixes (only ext4 is recommended)
- Supports conversion of /system partition
- Minimum brightness lowered by 30% for comfortable low-light use
- Auto-Brightness adjusted to keep the screen dimmer longer in low light
- Auto-Brightness adjusted to make the screen brighter earlier in bright light
- Auto-Brightness sensor polling interval increased from 0.5s to 1.2s
(Saves battery and makes brightness levels more stable)
- Disabled kernel debug logging
- Disabled Android debug logger (can be re-enabled via Tweaks)
- Replaced kernel jhash2 with jhash3
- Battery level polling frequency reduced from 5s to 60s
- Tweaks for CFQ IO scheduler
- Tweaks for VM parameters
- Tweaks for increased Battery Life
- Updated ext4 code in kernel
- Properly working Tiny RCU patch for better speed and efficiency
- Updated lowmemorykiler from Android git
- Includes neldar's BackLightNotification 2.3
- Compiled using latest Codesourcery 2010.09-51

Now this came out of the blue rigth when I am about to test Darky 8.1 and Serendipty 3.5 so I guess I would give this one a shot first!
Do you have that Wifi fix applied here?
Also, any problem using a different modem?
Thanks!

Why now when I have 11% battery.... Guess I'll flash tomorrow and possibly see if any bugs arise. This looks fantastic though.

Looks really nice from the screens. Congrats on your ROM! I'll give it a run and get you some feedback when I have a moment to flash it

it's been in the oven for a while, glad to see it finally came out

Really excited for this ROM! Blow me away!

I am getting ready to flash...love tryng a new kernel that is not too far from my normal 1344 overclock...maybe I can convince him to give it one or two more steps so I can still do 1344 with his kernel

Does this ROM have the 4 lockscreen options?

cant wait to see the reviews looks amazing. sticking with darky for right now loving the 2.3.1 bugger is fast smooth and so far great battery life. might be willing to give this a try though

The moment you start to get comfortable with a rom, and BAM!- something new and shiny comes along. And the endless spiral of reflashing continues... lol.

always interested in trying a new kernel..thats usually where the 'good' stuff can be found
any way we might get a full list of whats in the kernel besides the OC? Im a bit of a stickler and since i know what all the optimizations are after countless nights of reading i like knowing what people have included in their kernels.
ROM looks awesome will give it a go when my battery is fully charged

I loved your last rom, so I can't wait.

I'll be making a new post for the kernel in the morning. I'm too tired right now, but basically it's a tweaked speedmod k12k kernel with OC/UV. Details will be in the kernel post.

Introduction to the new Overclocking Daemon
Click to collapse
This ROM features a completely new way of Overclocking and managing screen states.
The History
But before explaining it further, let's talk about previous solutions.
There are several different approaches to archieve "screen-state-scaling".
That means basically that the govenor changes if you turn the screen off and changes back to normal when turning the screen on.
This is mainly used to restrict the amount of CPU usage (the frequency in fact) during screen off. This can lead to a major battery life increase.
The solutions so far were:
App like SetCPU, which change automatically the govenor based on profiles
integrated solutions in the govenor itself
Both these solutions have major problems.
The one with a tuner app is always a little laggy right after turning on the screen because SetCPU (or any other CPU tuner) needs some time to change the govenors (up to 7 seconds). This leads mostly to major lag in the lockscreen.
The second solution is the smartass govenor. It has already a screen-state-scaling included, so it reduces the frequency when the screen turn off.
This could be a really nice solution but it has some problems too.
Smartass most of the time is not really stable and has problems with its frequency scaling.
State-of-the-art-solution
So we (more precisely rmk40) thought of a better solution.
He wrote a native C Daemon which changes the govenors instantly without any lag.
This leads to major performance improvements right after turning on the screen and in the lockscreen.
But at the moment this solution is a little bit harder to configure. We are plaing to make a GUI for this, so you get the same comfort as using SetCPU.
Nevertheless you can even now adjust the daemon to your needs.
Be aware that the daemon only works if all CPU tuner apps are deinstalled. Otherwise it deactivates itself.
How to adjust the daemon
Click to collapse
The daemon is configured with 6 files in the folder /system/etc/virtuous_oc/.
There are 3 files for the wake state and 3 for the sleep state. For each state one file for the govenor, one for the minimal frequency and one for the maximal frequency.
You can easily edit these files eg. with RootExplorer or any other app which can edit system files. So you can adjust the frequencies and the govenor for each state just like with SetCPU.
In order to get the available frequencies for the current kernel, just open your favorite terminal app and type
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_frequencies
You could also use adb shell to show the frequencies on your computer.
To get the available govenors use a similar approach:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_governors
Please make sure, you are entering the right values in the daemon's config files.

Decided to take a stab at this rom and I'm loving the look. I did notice a weird glitch; I charged my battery to 100% before flashing this and once I got the rom up and running, the battery icon changed to half full every time I plugged it via USB on my computer.

Several KJ2 and KJ3 ROMs have Gallery issues. Some phones don't (like GPS issues) but some do. I tried QuickPic from the market and have had no problems since.
Also TRusselo reported this would fix the black screen when opening Gallery.
i found after theming frameworkres the gallery goes black, to fix:
menu> Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Gallery 3D > clear data (user data/ wipe data in tibu)

Need to recalibrate battery. This is a common symptom when flashing a new ROM. Please also wipe data and cache before flash. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765656&highlight=recalibrate+battery
Also, I noticed that you need to recalibrate stats just after flashing ROM. In my case flashing a kernel and then recalibrating throws the battery stats off again........

On the KJ3 ROMs I do find RAM used at 230 or so.....I think that may be the base usage......Correct me if I am wrong? KH3 ROM runs around 170 or so...
And live wallpapers eat up even more...
Not sure why there are problems with gallery and the browser. I still haven't had a problem with either. I just don't get it??????????

Might be a rare data corruption issue due to flashing. At least that's what it's sounding like to me.
This looks like a great ROM! Can't wait to try it out...DL'ing now!
It also could be glitch in the deodexing process. I've had to deodex a couple times before. Especially if I'm using Java allot. Reboot the puter and clear memory and stacks, always seems to solve the issue.

I don't steal anyones mod. If I use something they say you are free to use it on your rom. I don't use so much mods. I made all my self without thunderbolt tweaks. And framework theme is our own without a few icons from google ics.
We spending so much time for gaming mode. It will be a paid on market at new versions but will be free in gamerzrom. That's our right and you don't have to use it. I get nothing when you use or not.

They are rubbish. You can get 3600+ with ext4 but don't use ext4. It has so much overheads. Enable gaming mode and play games + enjoy.
Noobish question: is this only for cappy or do you make it for other phones? If so, anyway I can ask for a request?

This rom is for SGS. You must flash the patch BEFORE rebooting after flashing the patch.
my bad for being an ass before...i know this must take a lot of time to develop and whatnot and i appreciate your work...i'll try this rom some time when i get a new phone and i retire my cappy for side use....nice drumming btw
The language is in German for me. Anyone else? The setup process never gave me the opportunity to choose the language.
can someone port this to the Samsung vibrant, please and thank you. Also how's the gaming overall on this rom

This is a port of the Dirty Unicorns ROM from the i9000 by TEAM D.I.R.T. This ROM is based on the Android Open Kang Project (AOKP). The idea to start a ROM based off AOKP with added features for us was started out of curiosity and boredom. We started compiling ROMs for personal use and later started sharing them. After sharing it with a few people, we decided to take it a step further and fine tune the way we do things. Since then, is been nothing but fun and a true learning experience for all of us involved. We've received high praise from not only users but fellow developers of other ROMs that enjoy seeing things done the right way. Our 4.2.2 version made it onto various devices to include the HTC One, Galaxy Nexus, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO LTE, Nexus 4 and some other devices. We hope to do the same with our 4.3 version.
"Give credit and thanks where is due!" That's something that has fuel the way we do things! With that said, we would like to go ahead and credit those individuals and groups that have made this ROM possible with their original code and contributions to the Android community.....

how much free ram ?
Battery life is great, and I am running about 150/180 free ram, but I am using the latest devil kernel I extracted.... also I enabled swap, and oc'd 1200 with row/lagfree
Thanks for your time and hardwork friend, really good stuff here.

That's a good setup! Just FYI, i took your tip and extracted the latest devil kernel and included it in the ROM, so you didn't have to do it

The row/lagfree at 1200 oc was actually Val D's idea first. I just keep using that setup with every devil kernel I run, (4.1 4.2 and so on)
What's up Val? You gotta flash this one. It's a contender with your favorite Xylon 2.3.3........

I'm still on 4.2.2 and have no intention to flash 4.3 beta ROMs. For me 4.3 is just a transition step to 4.4 with no real advantages (on Captivate) compared to more stable and proven 4.2.2. I'm currently running CyanAOSP (lighter version of CM10.1) with Semaphore 3.0.0c kernel. For some reason on this particular ROM Semaphore with default 1GHz, ondemand and noop feels smoother than Devil with 1.2GHz, lagfree and row. Go figure. And battery life is better too, as expected.
Actually, my main phone now is BlackBerry Q10. I know, its OS and support is awful in many aspects, but the phone is still best as business communication device. I wish I could use Android the same way, but nothing can beat BlackBerry's hardware keyboard, attached to a super fast DualCore 2GB RAM 4G LTE hardware.
im having a issue with adfree 0.8.x.x, the latest version, its not loading up. im wondering what i can to to remedy that?
