Is it possible to regain some of the phone's system storage - EVO Shift 4G General

Per quick system information I have
Internal Storage Total 432MB Free 222 MB
System Storage 391MB Free 59.91
I know that if I delete some of my Apps I will recover some of my internal storage but how does one go about recovering some of the System storage? Is it possible? or o we have to have root to do it?

I believe we're going to have to wait for Permanent root to really clear up some memory, plus once we get some slim roms going you'll be able to free up even more system memory.

System storage is the partition for the ROM, right?

Ok how much free space do you have?

I have yet to unlock the bootloader and have decided to see what happens first. But i did root my play.
But as per the title, how much space is to little.
So the space i'm referring to is the 400 mb of internal storage.
I have remove alot of apps and ringtones to free up space. Well i can't seem to get more than 60 mb of free space on the internal flash drive.
So my question for everyone is have you been able to free up more space? and if so how did you do it.
Oh yeah, i have also moved all my apps to the sd card, well all the apps that thr app lets me.
Search & read my friend, this topic has been run over more times than a flat cat.
For starters any apps or data you remove from /system/ will not effect your internal storage, because it is a diffrent partition to the /data/ partition, the latter being your internal storage, i have 300 apps on my fone and just under 100mb and we do not get 400mb of internal storage, that is just the total, after a clean install you get about 230-240mb

[Q] SD Partition

I already partitioned my sd card months ago but this totally bothered me. I 2nd partition is 1gb and when i open settings->apps->manage applications, it still shows that my internal memory is only 190mb. What seems to be the problem?

You want to increase you internal storage?
Cant see what you want dude
Are you using any mods?

There is no problem here
use link2sd to mount your 2nd partition then you can link apps to free up internal storage so you can install more apps
your total internal storage will not increase - only available storage if you link apps to sd card that are currently on internal or have lib files on internal
on most deodex custom roms after you have installed around 80 apps you will have between 30mb & 60mb of free internal storage depending on the data & cache of apps

I know how to mount the 2nd partition. All i want is to see that my internal memory has inreased to 1.190gb. Because in task manager, it only shows that i only have 190mb, though i already partitioned my sdcard for 1gb.

I don't believe you understand what a 2nd partition is/does
your total internal storage will not increase - that's impossible without repartitioning the internal storage & taking space from other internal partitions which would be stupid as you would take space from boot partition
an sd card partition is on your sd card so you split the total storage of your sd card into two therefore your total internal storage hasn't increased - you haven't put a bigger internal hd in
your 2nd partition size is displayed in the info in link2sd
what it does is take apps in internal space & place them in the 2nd partition - it then leaves a link file where the app was so basically the app still behaves like it's on internal but it's not
No, i understand. Well, that would be all. No problem anymore.

using Link2SD doesn't increase your internal memory/RAM ... Link2Sd makes it easy for Android 1.6+ users with root privileges on their phone to move applications to the "SD card".

Its possible with amarullz script
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310309
Its a script that you put in your init.d folder.
But i cannot ensure that works on every rom/kernel kombo.
With hells fusion 50# kernel + evo x3 rom is it working (my daily use)
Want to see internal storage increase? Modify the ramdisk to mpunt the sdcards 2nd partition as /data and BAM there ya go

Yea, if your SDcard not partitioned yet, the rom will bootloop

If you modify the fstab correctly and make userdata at least 1GB you should be fine. I've partirioned my sdcard to use external sd, cache, system, and userdata giving me much more space to install roms and apps. I'd recommend a more powerful sdcard to take away the lag

Did you flash anything between the period of 2.34 gb and 1.6gb?
It's 4.2.2 android and the nand system internal storage shrank from 2.34gb to 1.5gb and is completely full. Its an a20 9" tablet 8gb 5Gb as external and 2.34gb but its messed up now need to increase the partition size.

Some build repartition the system and the internetal memory layout, so that the system gets more space and the remaining data is less..
You could try to cheat and put data on an SD card.
So do I need to use gparted? Idk what to do?

Wait, you're not using an HD2? This is the HD2 section, hence some solutions offered by people here may not apply to other devices. If there's a forum for your specific device, I suggest you post your question there. There will be more experienced people in that device and they will be able to provide better help.

Storage Space Running Out Warning

I am getting this message and it takes me to my storage via Settings. The main culprits appear to be Apps (consuming 3.57 GB) and Miscellaneous ( consuming 9.16 GB). Have not encountered this before so wondering what is recommended to do next to resolve this (besides just deleting apps). I have a SD card a LOT of unused space (about 60 GB).
The user usable storage space of the internal memory is 9 GB on the S4 16 GB version.
So I assume you have a 32 GB version?
Otherwise what you're saying - about miscellaneous using 9 GB and data 3 GB - doesn't make sense.
My idea would be to wipe the internal storage.
The device memory shows 16 GB. I installed a card which is what I was referring to with the additional storage. How do you wipe the internal storage and won't that negatively impact other things?

How you wipe it depends on the recovery you're using.
Some apps store data on the internal memory, so that will get wiped, and everything on the internal memory with it.
ROM and user installed apps are stored on a different partition, so they should be safe.
So based on what you said, I'm not feeling comfortable the wiping the internal memory is such a good idea. Is there a more strategic, selective way to go about this rather than a broad-brush wipe and risk losing stuff or functions?

I just offered you an easy way.
The alternative is to go through each folder, see what it contains and delete unnecessary stuff.
You could always try SDMaid available on the play store
Edit....you *are* rooted right?

Get space back ?

Hello |
After installing custom rom , and making a nandroid backup of original rom (without app installed) , I was left with 800 mb
free on the internal memory.
How can i gain more memeory?
To flash again and wipe internal storage as well ?
Thanks.
Your backup is probably taking up significant space, possibly several gigabytes. Look in the TWRP directory and copy the backups off the device and delete them from the device (or better yet, just backup to an SD card). Otherwise to go Settings - Storage and tap Internal Storage and see what is taking up the space, and delete as necessary, pay attention to Cached data space, that can easily grow to several gigabytes as well, tapping that will prompt you delete all app cache data which is generally safe to do.
Will wiping internal storage help? lol... yes, of course it will if your space is used up by files in internal storage.
Thanks
Even after moving backup to external sd. There is only 4 GB free, out of 16 GB. App is about 2 GB .
It seems strange ........
