[Q] Is there a fix for WP7 Volume Loudness control on HD2 - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Hello,
Does anyone know if there or how to fix the DFT WP7 HD2 volume control. I have the phone on 1 or 2 and it is still very loud. Love the DFT work. Not complaining just wondering if it can be fixed.
Tks,
CM

Confirmed. The phone is very loud even on 1 volume level.

Same problem here. Seems there a few little bugs with SD cards, wifi and sound but over all its an excellent first ROM. I'm sure over time these bugs will be fixed.

seem t-moblie HD2's suffer from solid message blocks and message text missing too

confirmed. hope they will come out with some solution! but since it's the first build, i do expect some bug will appear.

Use your Reg editor to change the MaxdBAtten value data for 45 to 70 and then reboot your phone.
[HKCU]ControlPanel\Volume
EDIT: Left out the MaxdBAtten

Oops I left that bit out!! It is MaxdBAtten that you change from 45 to 70

Many thanks everyone, can confirm that this works. Only thing it hasn't improved is how loud zune is when playing music through phone speaker - anyone know the reg entry for this?

question: does it fix the sound quality???? i mean, being loud is one thing, but the sound sounds so horrible i cant stand it over 5 in volume... i compared and Android doesnt suffer this, so i doubt its a blown speaker...

this is what i mean, the reg edit has improved sound balance overall, but playing zune though phone speaker over about 14ish on volume setting sounds distorted. i think its still too loud even though system volume is now better.

Will a higher value be less loud, for exemple will 80 be softer then 70. My volume is still loud at 70. Changing the value from 45 to 70 didn't make a noticeble difference.

Howto boost sound volume

I have a MDA Vario. I would like to boost the sound volume. Is it possible to boost the volume in the windows register?
Thnx
I found some keys. The keys:
\\\registry\HKLM\Software\HTC\AUDIOGAIN(x)\
Speaker uplink volume
Headset uplink volume
Where (x) is nothing or 0, 1, 2
My speuker uplink volume was set at 26, I change that with 50, I think my speaker goes a bit harder, but I'm not sure..
Does anyone know if it really works, or has different techhnics?

edit which one ? AUDIOGAIN or AUDIOGAIN0/1/2 ???
Any tweak available ? I have just installed the MS Voice Command, but the voice come out from the wizard is too quiet, I cannot hear clearly even I set the volume to MAX, I believe there should be some reg key can make it louder, and also the mic gain level, THanks if someone knows and post here.

i've had problems with microphone in my wizard. basically, people complained, that they can't hear me very well. i also found these registry keys, did some tests and changed RECEIVE_UPLINK_VOLUME and EARPHONE_UPLINK_VOLUME values to CC. after that change, microphone sensitivity got better and didn't receive any more complaints.

to have MS Voice Command woman speak louder, edit these keys :

same problem here, also I cannot get the following to work, (UPDATED) I can change the setting but using the DONE from the softkey, not the OK on the top.
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\VoiceCommand1\InitVol

On my 9100, it is already 5
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\VoiceCommand1\AttenuationCategory

In Call Volume cab (I will donate if someone makes one)

I have a 8125(Wizard) and my wife has a 3125 (Startrek)
I have yet to find anyone that has a fix for Windows 6.0 and 6.1 to the low level of in-call volume. I have tried different headsets and every one of them has to be maxed for normal listening. Well try using it on a train or bus then. Very hard to hear.
I am willing to donate 30.00 to someone if they make an app or cab that will boost the volume of the in call (note not mic) when using them without a headset and with a bluetooth headset.
I'll also donate 50.00 if someone makes an application that works with all windows mobile devices with sliders for speakerphone levels, incall, mic, speakerphone and such. I'm sure there are many others that will also donate to this cause as everywhere i search people have "ideas" but nothing consistent, and they all seem to have failed for me.
If someone knows of an app that will do this for both Windows Mobile Pro 6.1 and Standard 6.1, i will donate it to the developer or purchase the program
Thanks.

I've seen it but not tested it. The discription though doesn't say it will increase the volume as in boost. I'll watch that thread though and try it.
just use neuaudio or edit the audiopara file yourself. very easy to do.
I don't have an audiopara.csv file under windows on my phone..
I also installed nueaudio but i can't find a link nor sign of it. I have a wizard though and that utiltiy was made for the titan so i'm not sure if that is why.
Good thoughts though. Maybe it's the 6.1 AMP 2.0 rom i'm using. I'll check my wifes tonight.
The Q has a registry setting that can be modified to increase the volume. It's WM Standard and might apply to your wife's phone.

Final, Xperia volume fix?

I KNOW. there are many threads about this.
As you might agree with, the ring tone volume is one of the worst things with this phone.
I've looked everywhere for an anser to this question but they just keep complaining, not explaining.
The Xperia ringvolume is too low and i'd realy like some one to tell me how to fix this. Both in multimedia and when it rings.
I've tried the AudioPara3 and the SRS and neither worked.
please...
The volume on mine is plenty loud, you sure it's not the ringtones you are using? I have heard of people damaging the speaker with excessively loud sounds being played through it.

This is what half the peaple say
It depends on what you are use to.
My very old k500i is about the same as the Xperia but my last phone and the one before that (k850i, k800i) felt like more than double the volume of the xperia.
With the k850i i listend to some music once while driving the car and i had volume 7/10 and it was REALY loud and clear but now with the xperia i have it on max volume and it's barley hearble.
I know the speaker could do better because i tried converting a song with 600% volume and it realy went louder without any distortion at all.
I don't want to do this to every song i want to listen to since i have about 800 of them...
What baffles me most is the freaggin' speaker location. The handset is designed for right-handed use. However, the speaker broadcasts sounds on the left side of the handset (with slide closed). Therefore, it's easy to muffle any sound broadcast from the handset if cupped with the left hand. The scenario proves the same if trying to converse in speakerphone mode. You constantly need to re-adjust your hand in order to not muffle the sound.
I would agree that the speaker volume is softer the most SE handsets. I still have my 3 yr old P990i around which utilizes the same incoming call wave file. There is a very significant (at least 2:1) difference in volume between the two.

You can find some useful information there. On most of the threads I have been through, most of the people recommend OPTXperiabeta02.cab.. Will try to find a link to download and post it here.. But, I haven't tried it myself yet, so don't kill me if it damages your speaker.. People who have used it said that they had to decrease the volume, so I would advice you to do the same
OPTXperiabeta02.cab here
I used this fix posted in another thread before.
IT Works GREAT, the volume is a lot higher than before!
It's called optxperia beta version 2 from http://ixperia.ru/soft/winmobile/51-opt-xperia.html
hope it helps!
Where can you find the app after you have installed it? Can't find it either in programs, nor in settings.. And it doesn't seem like the sound have improved any..
I find that cranking up the System Volume (not just the Ring Volume!) is a must when using mp3's as ringtone... otherwise it's v. quiet.
It should have prompted you for a reset after installing the app.
It can be found in settings -> remove programs -> it's called Auanti by Davide Gialli OptXperia
I just installed this and....wow, this may be too loud..lol good find. thanks a lot.

I removed it, and downloaded it from another site, and that one prompted for a soft reset. But I was just wondering whether you can edit the options (HOW much loader, if it only works when you receive calls, or also playing music, etc.)..? I found it on the location you posted, but there I can only remove it When I woke up this morning, the alarm sounded much higher than before, I had to turn the volume down, so I think its working quite well
Be careful with that cab - it does a fair few things:
1. Replaces 3d driver
2. Adds HTCAPI.dll to Windows (used by some 3d apps)
3. Replaces audiopara3 files (controls volume amongst other things)
4. Amends the threaded SMS layout
5. Replaces MMS settings
6. Turns off SIP autodeploy
7. Amends RAM cacheing etc.
8. Amends SD read settings
9. Changes Wifi g settings.
I'm sure they're all improvements on someone's ROM, somewhere but may end up messing up yours.
Seriously, get yourself MSCEInf and analyse these before installing - it's an extremely useful program. The only part you need is the audiopara3 csv files...

Ok so definately increases volume?, but does that result in noticeable lack of quality? (ie do louder tones sound bad)
Would it be possible to install this after flashing to Touch it or Touch X rom for example? or would that be incompatible?
thanks

Thanks so much for the info. I installed this program awhile back, and though the volume is better, I've had little problems with my phone since. Do you know if uninstalling the program will change the settings back to what they were before? If not, I need to flash a new ROM, anyway.

[TESTED 100% WORKING]Increase ALL of your X2's volume by 200%!!

This solution increases:
MICROPHONE VOLUME
IN-CALL VOLUME
SPEAKER VOLUME
RINGTONE VOLUME
MUSIC PLAYER VOLUME
and has been tested and working 100%
I've decided to share a ONCE-AND-FOR-ALL solution for all the X2 users and the general population of windows mobile users.
Here's the solution:
First, you need totalcommander. Google it.
1) Open TotalCommander
2) Go to ftp\\registry\HKCU
3) Change ALL the following to the value specified:
HKCU/Control Panel\Phone\vol\65535 (General volume of the X2 including microphone input!)
HKCU/ControlPanel/SoundCategories/InCall/Initvol\5
HKCU/ControlPanel/SoundCategories/Ring/5
HKCU/ControlPanel/SoundCategories/System/5
HKCU/ControlPanel/SoundCategories/Attentuation\All to 5
HKCU/ControlPanel/SoundCategories/InCall/InitVol\5
HKCU/ControlPanel/SoundCategories/Ring/InitVol\5
4) Soft-reset
5) Press the volume up key and set it to the 5th indicator (Max)
6) Press volume up key 1 more time, and you will hear an additional beep 200% louder and the indicator marker remains the same at the 5th marker on the top. This means you have sucessfully tweaked your volume!
6) Do step 5 again with in-call and congrats!
Enjoy your beloved X2 =)
I am satisfied with the default volume levels and will leave it as is.
Do note people, increasing output levels beyond the specified levels can damage your speakers!
sounds good. is it possible for someone to make a registry file of this? so we can just run it and it does it all for us noobs lol. (like the sd card fix)
although im not sure i need to increase the microphone input level, is it possible to leave that out.

You dont have to use totalcommander. Since it is a registry tweak, you can use a simple Registry Editor that you can download from Windows Marketplace for free

No changes to my xperia x2 either..
I've been dealing with low volume issue of WM since my O2 atom but not for my Samsung Valencia (c6625), so I just copied all samsung's ringtones and alarms from my valencia and use it in my X2, hahaha . they are sound nicer and louder! SE could have done much much better providing us lots of (nice and loud) ringtones just like samsung did.
i have found a program that increases your volume
Many Many Many thanks to HS_LuKa_ i want to tell that the application is perfect and sound is very loud and if u receive error when run it first time just restart the phone ,
thanks again HS_LuKa_

Alarm sound is too loud !!!!

Does anyone else noticed this ?
The Alarm sound is too loud and cant be changed using the main volume !
Any idea why its like that or any fix for it !
Install reg editor
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Volume]
"MaxdBAtten"=dword:2D (2D = 45)
change the value from 45 to 70
It seems ChevronWP7 doesnt work anymore for me , is there anyother way to do it ?
I cant install anything on the phone other than MarketPlace apps
ChevronWP7 works for everyone, close all your dropbox, antivirus, itunes, firefox, iplayer etc...CNTRL ALT DEL windows task manager, kill selected programs.
after installing a reg editor, im glad my wp7 looks a bit more tinkerable
also theres some sort of hiss that apparently has been around since the high volume bug, but only noticed now when level 1 is much softer
this hiss reminds me of those cheap ass logitech speakers I have when theres no sound playing lol, i hope this can be fixed in the future...

Install reg editor
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Volume]
"MaxdBAtten"=dword:2D (2D = 45)
change the value from 45 to 70

I have tried this and performed a reset and the alarm volume is still a lot louder than any other system sounds. Is there something that I'm missing? or another method?
Same problem...
I have the same issue.
Out of the box the the main volume for music, ring and in call volume can be controlled via the main control but the notification and alarm volume is very high and seamingly independant from the main volume level.
After tweaking the registry value:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Volume\MaxdBAtten
... from 6 to 80 the overall system volume decreased including system notifications but the alarm sound is still much higher than all other levels. I never sleep through it anymore - which is a plus - but dropping it slightly would be nice.
Same thing here... I'm scared out off sleep That's not very plesent.
Any registry tweak for this situation?
For me this worked (for 50% sound volume):
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Alarm\InitVol = 50 (integer)

Great registry tweak!
The loud alarm sound was the last really annoying bug in the first release of the DFT WP7 ROM.
okay so someone guide me plaese, i lovw WP7 but im currently on andriod cuz of the volume issue & the camera.
how do i adjust the super ultra loud volume?
and how do i fix the loud alarm?
guide...
Make sure your pc has Zune 4 and .netframework 4 installed (.net is needed to run chevron and "TomXAPdeployer")
1. unlock your handset with chevron.
2. Use an "TomXAPdeployer" to install a registry editor to your handset. It's available on XDA if you serach a bit (i've attached below -just remove the ".zip" extension at the end of the filename).
3. Make the following registry chage to reduce the violume of your notifications:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Volume]
"MaxdBAtten"=dword:2D (2D = 45)
change the value from 45 to 70
4. Create this registry entry to reduce the volume of the alram:
[HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Alarm]
"InitVol = 50 (integer)"
You might need to reboot your phone just to tidy everything up.
The tweaks work well.
I did it the harder way? Went to marketplace and downloaded the Media Volume setting on the free trial. Works a treat for me.
Maybe I should try the easy way, of changing reg files tweeking things?? NOT.
Hmmm
I did looked at that App, as far as i can see it just chages the registry vlaues for you to suit certain profiles.
Seems like a nice app - but changing the reg values manually saves a few pence and avoids having to install another piece of software...
What ever way works best for you.

This worked great for me, although i used (InitVol = 25) that made it quieter for to my liking. Thanks for the tip!

thanks mate.
Am I reading this right that people are complaining the alarm is too loud? It's an alarm, it's supposed to be loud.
