Name/type of SDcards that work well with WM7 ? - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

I just installed wm7 on my HD2, but sometime it freezes, and sometimes it reboots itself. So i guess the problem might be my SDcard ( the original 16GB comes with Tmobile HTC HD2). If anyone has installed wm7 and has no problems so far, would you tell me what type/name of your SDcard please ?
p/s: sorry for my english

i just flashed my phone with a transcend 8gb class 6 card and so far it works all hell fine!!!

I'm using scandisk 8gb class 2, no problems that I can tell of.

Which SD cards are the best for my Qtek 2020 ?

Hi,
Next week I will be receiving my Qtek 2020.... yummie !!!!
I would like to use it for GPS.
I live in Belgium, so I want the whole Benelux always with me...
Sometimes I travel to Germany.
So maybe it's better to buy two "little" cards instead of one big.
I thought 2 x 512 MB ?
But which brand ???
Ik heard bad things about Sandisk ...
And what about Apacer, Kingston, Lexar, Twinmos ????
Many thanks for your reply's !!!
( And excuse me for my afwull English... )
Nobody ???
do a search in other threads people give their exp with different cards
sandisk is pretty compatible but the slowest cards in the world
why 2 x 512 cards lol thats a bit much no? why not get 2 x simpletech 256mb sd cards? they are the fastest cars out just like panasonic dont bother with sandisk very slow also lexar are to be considered
Thx foor these reply's.
So, it will be a Lexar, a Panasonic or maybe a Kingston.
My choice
I use 2 SD card Kingston 512 and I don't have any problems.
I have order the new Sandisk 1Go and I will inform you of my experience with this new card (I expect in a few weeks).
See you later
Just got a Sandisk 512Mb SD card as a present (well I asked for Panasonic or Toshiba) . . . .the Sandisk is far more expensive (& sold as 'a better card') but the performance sucks!!!
I've used it now for two days, have TomTom maps installed on it. Same config as i have for months now, except that i changed my Kingston 256MB (which isnt a performance highflyer either) fro the Sandisk.
Never had so many
1. freezes after hanging up while TomTom is still running
2. slow responses from the device in various aspects (ie. picking up the phone, putting call thru to BT headset, showing menu)
Next to these issues is also has the same (or worse) data-thoughput limitations as the Kingston card has resulting in freezes when you have POI's open in TomTom while driving.
Anyway, got my Kingston back in.
Anyone want to buy my almost-brand-new Sandisk 512MB SD????
Don't use SanDisk 1Gb
Hi all!
Thought I was lucky with this SD, but half of the time either my pc or MDA II suggests to reformat it... :-S no thanks!

[Q] Best microSDHC card for Android on HD2

I am currently suffering from Sleep of Death issues on all Android versions for the HD2, which makes it pretty useless for daily use. I am using the Standard Class 2 16GB card which came with my Telstra NextG HD2, I've tried all the ROM/Radio combination's I could be bothered with, 2.12 radio seems the best and I'm on the EnergyRom Cookie from 29th Sep currently, however I have tried other minimal ones and still SoD's.
As far as I can tell from threads around here it seems to be my microsdhc card that is the problem, now I want to upgrade to a 32GB card, and I was wondering if it was worthwhile getting a Class 6, or is a Class 4 going to cover all the bases?
I would like to know some specific brands and models of microsdhc cards that people use without getting SoD's so then I can go shopping I am hopeful someone is running it on a 32GB card somewhere out there, but I would settle for 16gb cards that happily run Android on the HD2. Thanks
What kernel are you using? I went from michyprima r11 to r1 in bangsters build and my sod's have completely disappeared.
I am using a sandisk 4gb microsdhc as well.
what class is the card though, class 4?
No SOD/No Music Skips/Etc...
8GB Kingston Class 4 (2 of those )
8GB Transcend Class 4
16GB Sandisk Class 2
PS : My allocation unit size is always 64k
hmmm my 16GB card that came with my unit from Telstra is a Sandisk Class 2... and running that with 64k allocation still gives me SoD's....
hmm

Im using bangsters 1.4 build with chuckydroid for wm and radio 2.14 with a 16 gb class 2 sd card with 32k block size (as bangsters says is very important)
with this setup I get no sod's at all. it works flawless. I get sometime a delay when it wakes up from sleep but i press and run my finger on the black scree and it wakes up everytime. never have sod.
try my setup because the way it works for me is very stable. just as stable as my Nexus One. really
and if you try bangsters build just go trhu hes check list before you install
We mostly use transcend 8gb class 6 cards and they are fine.
Team branded class 6 cards are awful.
I usually use 64K cluster size.
Don't get 32gb card. You won't be able to boot android. You'll be wasting your money.

Oh wow! Thanks for the save
Do you know the reason why, or is there a thread on it? I tried searching but too many results to peel through
I know ANDROID had issues with formatting 32GB cards in the past... is it a problem like that with android in general or just the booting from a 32GB sd card?

Thanks for the heads up on the android boot issue with 32GB Micro SD cards, mattfmartin. D'oh... I was just about to pick one up, but will hold off for now. Thanks again!
As far as 16GB cards go, I've had good luck for the last few weeks with a SanDisk Class 2 model and HyperDroid v1.5. Moreover, for some reason, the SanDisk has outperformed a 16GB Toshiba Class 4 model in overall speed and stability. Go figure...
Best to all,
R
*Currently running and very impressed with Miri & DINIK's solid v19 ROM, HyperDroid v1.5, and Radio_leo_2.14.50.14 on a TMOUSA HD2.
I have a class6 16GB Lexar card, with it I'm not having any issues with SoD or anything like that. But compared to my stock class 2 card, I haven't noticed any improvements in Android battery life or constant hang ups. Documents and podcasts load faster for sure though.

The above statement about running Android from a 32GB Mirco SDHC card is incorrect, at least in my case. That said, I've been booting and running HyperDroid v1.5 by pongster for a few days now with a 32GB SanDisk Class 2 card. The only negative effect noticed so far; is that it takes Android twice as long to boot from the 32GB card verses my old SanDisk 16GB Class 2 card. Once booted, performance appears to be the same. If it helps anyone, I used Panasonic SDformatter v2.9 (3.0), set to it's default 32kb cluster size, to format the 32GB card.
Best to all,
R

hey,
im about to buy a new micro sd and I dunno which
I thought of getting transcend 8gb class 6 but now I think that it'll be better to get a 16gb card.
Which 16gb micro sd card do you recommend?
I am currently using a 16GB SanDisk Class 4
I am quite convinced that different BLOCK SIZES matter for performance
Anyone has tried different block sizes and testified performacne/
Hey,
I'm going to buy a microSD card Sandisk 16GB 4th class
Are there any problems with the operation of the NAND android who need ext2/3/4 partition on SD card?
Generally, this is a good choice?

Compatible SD Cards for Windows Phone 7

Hi there,
i want to make some Thread about the SD Cards for the use of Windows Phone 7 and want to collect information. I Think many people who want to use WP7 on HD2 have to buy a new one, even my 16 GB SanDisk Class 6 is not compatible.
I found this on web:
Hi, actually the Samsung Focus has a 16GB internal memory and expandable up to 32GB. So you can insert a 32GB micro SD card on this device. However there are certain limitations when it comes to the micro SD card. Compatible micro SD cards will be branded as “Windows Phone 7 Compatible” on the packaging. Approved cards can be obtained from the manufacturer or carrier. (The SanDisk 8GB class 2 micro SD card has been certified.) Many commercially available retail micro SD cards are not approved for use in Windows Phone 7. Use of unapproved cards may cause performance degradation or device instability, including unexpected reset and loss of user data.

you sure? i also had insert my 2 GB after the 16 GB makes crashes...but i think it's still not included in system, because i only git 180 MB storage i'll try out at home with the offcial post of WP7 ROM
but so far i know only class 2 sd's from sandisk are working
I have a sandisk 4gb class 4, everything works normally from the first boot
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
My 16GB Sandisk class 2 worked then all of a sudden the phone kept rebooting constantly. I had to reflash again to fix the reboot, 1 hour later it kept screwing up again.
i have wifi problems with my sandisc 2 gb , today i will be tryin lixar on 16gb
I also tried the 2GB SD Card, that came with the phone. It doesn't work. The phone shows only 15mb and the free space is full after a few minutes using it.

Yea, phone memory is VERY low but i copied 1,5gb music on my phone with that ****ty zune software and i can play it with the music player on wp7. Looks like the card is in use but only a low ammount for the system i think.
My Kingston 4GB Micro SDHC class 4 works but I'm finding that the Phone can get very laggy. I didn't have this problem when there was no SD card in the phone. I'm guessing its my SD card?
Can everyone post how the phone runs with their SD cards.
My 8GB Class 4 Kingston (SDC4/8GB) work like a charm :>

Hi bro, cheers for that information. Checked the sources you provided. Interesting comments there, one saying that SanDisk withdrew its compatibility Page since they haven't tested their (those) cards on WP7 yet themselves...
So we actually are left out in the wild with as much info as before. So it is even more important that people here report their experience with their cards.
I would strongly recommend, that people pay very close attention to the performance and any interesting detail before they post reports here. This would ensure quality of this thread is high. Maybe you, the OP could add cards, that have been verified by more than one user as working well to the first post? May i suggest that?
cheers...
Kingston 8 GB class 4 SDHC working fine on WP7
Class 4 Sandisk 8GB, works amazingly!, first flash, of course i hard reset it when it was flashed as per win-mo days
Was using Kingston 8gb class 4. Phone picks up the card fine but I was seeing random lags throughout system . It also slowed the market place down to where it was dreadful to download an app. When I removed card. The system is incredibly speedy, and shutdown speeds are very quick.
I am not sure if this is a general problem with these cards but I am going to send mine into Kingston for a replacement, I've read some reviews that there quality control has been hit and miss and some cards don't operate at rated speed.

Quick question regarding sd card

I finally have gotten wp7 to work completely on my hd2, after 3 long days of work, and found out that what i needed was a new sd card from the start. My findings are that: SanDisk 16gb that came with my phone caused random reboots, SanDisk 2 GB class two that came with a vibrant worked but did not have WiFi support, and SanDisk 4 GB class 4 works absolutely flawlessly. My question though is does anyone know of a 16 GB sd card that works flawlessly with wp7? Thanks!
Yes...An 8GB & 16GB should work just fine!
32G C4 works fine!(Sandisk)
I've got a Lexar class 6 16gb card in my HD2 and so far I have to say that WP7 has been running pretty much flawlessly. Have had a couple of random re-boots, but that's about it. Have had WP7 on phone now for almost 3 weeks and almost as stable as an HD7 in my opinion.

You may get varying answers with that question but I was using the Sandisk Class 2 16gb card that came with my TMOUS HD2
I ordered a class 2 San disk off Amazon.co.uk for 15.99 I ended up with a class 4 one off them and it works great but I also heard its pritty much a lucky dip with sd cards for wp7.
no way of knowing what cards will work unless you try it, that is the only answer im afraid, class 2 and 4 seem to have a higher chance of working but your just as likely to have a sandisk working as you are having a supermarket own brand
course the flip side is you may get a class 6 or even a 10 working fine too...
its luck, good luck!
Just thought id add my 2 pence, I started with an 8gb class 4 card (brandless) and decided I wanted more memory so I bought a San disk mobile ultra 16gb class 4 from eBay. I was happy with my 8gb cards performance until I replaced it, the speed increase was massive so I would recommend the mobile ultra by San disk my self I picked mine up for £15 with free delivery

a working OS has absolutely no lag, it smooth and very slick, there is a slight touch screen bug that may mean you need to swipe a couple of times but actual OS transitions are incredible, so if you dont have the experience i have mentioned then its likely your card isnt 100% compatible.
I use the stock sandisk 16gb, class 2 sd card that came with my phone. Runs smooth as butter!

The os was slick and smooth on my unbranded card, the speed difference i noticed was when it came to installing apps. I would estimate it takes a quarter of the time to install an app than it did before. Also there was an increase in speed in running some apps for example fruit ninja used to be slow in parts and now runs alot better

oh for god sake, here we go again,
ITS LUCK!! there is no relation to any SD card working on the HD2 for WP7 other than class 2 or 4 seem to have a high chance of success, thats not to say class 6 and 10 wont work, just less likely
Sandisk have cards that work and others that dont, they are not above this problem, two identical cards may not work the same, because the manufacturing process isnt always the same.
in short, ITS LUCK!!
lol
Unless they start advertising it as a WP7 compatible card, which i doubt will happen as devices that run WP7 must have the SD card in or use additional NAND memory, given that mainstream joe public isnt likely to break down their £400 phone to add some memory i doubt very much that SD card manufactures will release a branded product to the highstreet specifically designed for the WP7 devices that can ripped apart to allow an upgrade to the internal SD card.
the very best you can do is find out the batch number of some of the SD cards in the HD7 and attempt to find a high street version sporting teh same number, good luck with that.
My hd2 wp7 doesn't read my 16 gb sandisk class 2 at all. How do I get it to work?
I first used a Kingston 16gb class 6 but had constant freezes, laggy os and constant reboots. Than I used the SanDisk 16gb class 2 and the phone runs just as smooth as my brothers hd7. But I do get occasional reboots still...
Sent from my HD7 T9292 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
A-data microSD 16Gb class 6 work on my HD2 with Wp7 2 month without problems
i have Sandisk 16GB class 2
I have an SanDisk 16gb Class 4 and after First Boot nothing happens.
Without SD Card wp7 Starts und run perfectly...
Today I changed my 16GB SD card from a no-name class "I don´t know" to a 16GB class 10 SD card. The Phone ist now much more faster than before, it is nearly as fast as my HTC Mozart.
When you have probs with the SD card, it was a very good hint to format it with the digicam.
Greetz, Olli2.
