DVD/Blu-ray to Archos - Gen8 General

Hello all,
I found this great free program for ripping DVDs and Blu-rays. It is called DVDFab HD Decrypter. By following the steps below you can have distortion free movies on your Archos.
First download and install DVDFab HD Decrypter:
http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm
Next run the program.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Select HD Decrypter - Free Edition
Select "Do not show again"
Click the "Start DVDFab" button
Click the "OK" button
Select your region code
Select "Do not show again"
Click the "OK" button
Select DVD Ripper | More... | to MP4
Insert the DVD that you want to rip in the drive
DVDFab will automatically highlight the movie track. Select it by clicking the checkbox.
Click the "Edit" button
I highlighted in red the fields to be edited
Clean up the file name and title
Change Fixed Bitrate to 1500
Change Channel to Stereo
Change Bitrate to 128kbps
Click the "Video Effect Settings" button
Under Customized Size enter the max 16:9 resolution and click the "Add" button
Archos 101 display is 1024x600
-- DVD max 16:9 resolution: 852x480
-- Blu-ray max 16:9 resolution: 1024x576
Archos 70 display is 800x480
-- DVD/Blu-ray max 16:9 resolution: 800x450
Next click on the Crop tab
You want the Cropped Aspect Ratio to be the same as your displays ratio.
1024/600=1.71 and 800/480=1.67
Top and Bottom = 0
Left and Right
-- Archos 101 DVD = 17
-- Archos 101 Blu-ray = 21
-- Archos 70 DVD/Blu-ray = 27
Click the "OK" button
Click the "OK" button
Click the "Start" button
Select "Do not show again"
Click the "OK" button
Now it will start ripping the video. It may take 1-2 hours.
When it is done it will bring up a File Transfer window. Just close it by clicking the close button in the upper right hand corner.
Copy your video.mp4 to the Video folder or SD card on your Archos via USB and then run the Video app to watch.

That's great. It is able to offer high output quality for playback on Archos

For things like this, it will probably trigger a false positive. If your worried about it in a vm ware or something.

Nice how-to-rip manual!
If you want to convert full hd videos or non supported audio/video files, I can recommend AVS Video Converter. It is very easy to use and the output (video) is great.
I use it to convert ripped (full hd) blu-rays, that usually have at least 5.1 audio, to a MP4 file with stereo sound.

I normally use CloneDVDmobile but now I will have to give this a shot. Thanks

I've tried this software - videos look awesome but I have a disconnect between the audio and video... audio kicks in a bit before the picture... really odd.
Any one out there have a solution?

Thank you Tesla74. This is one of the fastest ways to copy video's for the Archos 70 that I've found. One question? Have you or anyone on the forum found a way to save the settings to the selected or default profile? I have clicked on "Set as Default" but that appears to only save some of the conversion settings. I haven't figured out how to save the video effect settings. This would make converting a large library much easier. Thanks a bunch!

Hello all, I am new to this forum and am looking forward to learning from the best! Here is my issue: I recently purchased the Archos gen8 101. My goal is to rip DVD to the tablet to view when on a plane. I have followed Tesla74 instuctions which were perfect for this Novice!!! LOL. My problem is, it is taking forever to rip and hasn't completed...i eventually get an error. I am trying again with different DVD and currently its been ripping for 2 hours and only at 16%. I have a Toshiba laptop/vista. (3yrs old) Also, I am really a novice so I appologize for any "wrong" terminalolgy. Hopefully I can get some direction on what to do.
I am also using DVDFAB to rip the DVD. I hope I have given enough of info. Thank you for any help you can give me.

The conversion is a very resource consuming thread and needs alot of processor power.
If your Toshiba has a nvidia graphiccard http://www.mediacoderhq.com/ might help you, othervise you have to find the right parameters for the conversion.
And yes, it can take a long time.

There's also a free program called Handbrake that will do this. You can give that a try if dvdfab gives you trouble.

How to create time lapse videos on windows mobile?

Anyone heard of a program to make time lapse videos on windows mobile?
Time lapse videos are those videos made by taking pictures with a costant time pause, from a steady position and them merging them frame by frame.
I can't find anything for pocketpc on google.
If this kind of program doesn't exist anybody would mind to build/code it?
it could make some good quality videos(photo quality).
no one knows or is intrested?
bump up!
that would be awsum! someone support this please
Found Software
Found some software (via Google) which should do it. I'll try it on mine and report how it is.
-edit- tested and it works well!
Extract ZIP to Pocket PC, and run config to set interval etc,
then run exe to start the time lapse
WOW..thanks for the great find
Mugglesquheers
Do you know what the timer interval is in please? Minutes, seconds, nano seconds? Also what is the virtual key box for?
Cheers

Just following three letters will solve your problem: "RTM" or four, if one is less polite

I wonder how this will get affected if a call comes in or alerts go off. Will it run in the background or does the cam app have to be running in the foreground?
thanks for the great find
What would be ideal is not that appeared onscreen in the camera lens, but it would execute in the background, did not think?
yes, the program itself does a good job of taking pictures at a specified interval, but it doesn't create the video file and it's not much user friendly, peralphs some talented coder could write a more complete solution? isn't this the right place to ask for such things ;p
THANKS!!!!!!!!
thanks
awesome!! been looking for this kind of app!

, but its not free..
they have a trial version though.
On windows mobile 5.0 and 6.0 is used the amazing program CoolCapture to make my 720p HD movies... but it isn't supported on 6.1 anymore...
check for an example: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PS7P2TA5
i hope someone can make a piece of software with the following functionality:
Must have:
- choose resolution (480p, 720p or 1080p)
- choose delay (1sec, 5sec, 10sec, 30 sec, 1min, 5min, 10min, 30min, 1hour)
- choose output directory of images
Would have
- Render into (H.264, WMVHD, AVCHD, XviD)
- Upload to (FTP, SMB)
Then every windows mobile phone with a 3MP camera can make HD 1080p movies. I'm dreaming of this for soo long...

Looks like enoght. I only need .avi I tried .mkv but it has problems with sound. Dont know if it is problem of program or of my computer.
- You can set a lot of containers and codecs
-you can set your bitrate and other things, resolution, pad etc.
-you can burn in subtitles, it supports many formats like .srt and .sub and few more like .ass lol

about 3rd picture : dont press activate high quality settings. If I did, my encoding crashed when started.
about 4th picture : I put 800*440 because of aspect ratio and I want to play it in Album. If you want to play in WMP, you got 2 ways :
1.) stretch it to 800x480
2.) set 800x480 but also set pad 20 bottom and 20 top, so your aspect ratio will be same as input.
I prefer this program because of .srt subtitles support. If you dont need subtitles, then you can choose from many converters. I would suggest handbrake which is free and also has 2pass option.
I get superior results to MP4, if I:
Select Pocket Player -> iPhone -> iPhone AVC H264
Select "iPhone H264 high quality" from the drop-down menu
Push "Settings" link and set:
Audio to double channel 128 kbits/secVideo to 1024 kbits/sec
And happy converting
Very smooth playback (in WMP), virtually no compression artifacting (blocky ****, which is what you get going through just MP4, apperantly MP4 is not the same as iPhone MP4). Currently trying to find the limit of kbits/sec on the video, 1500 is just a little too much, get choppy playback, 1024 is just too little, get very minor blockiness.
Hope this helps and love to have some feedback.
nice
Thank you
Nice tool !!
I really got to say million thanks to you!!!!!! And I finally found a perfect video converter for everything!!!! It is truly H264 converter, and the quality is absolutely good!!

Open the Browser and type "about:debug". Click Go. (No page will load; that's normal.)
Open Settings, scroll down to UAString, and change it to Desktop.
Start playing your favorite video. Once the show starts, zoom in and press the full screen button.
Enjoy Hulu in full screen on your Android phone!
Nice! How do you guys come up with this stuff (figure these things out)?!?
Well yes, the guide works nicely (even though I knew it) but since Flash is simply beta, and isn't hardware accelerated - there really is no point in watching it currently.

Guess I should try it again, it wasn't quite well when I tried it earlier.
Audio comes in fine, video is more like a slideshow.
Ah Paul, you were correct - I wasn't giving it a chance long enough. At first, it starts out incredibly irritating, then a few minutes (or seconds more likely) later it becomes normally viewable.

It seemed to improve a bit when I went into my Hulu account settings and changed my resolution to the lowest (288p). Audio was out of sync for me even with this, though, on the one episode I tried.

I can play things, but I can't seen to get it to fullscreen.
double tapping causes the video to pause.
trying a long press shows me the various little options on the right side and bottom, one of which is the 'fullscreen' button that I can't seem to click.
Other than that it plays, jumpy at first but it smooths out.

Yeah there's no full screen (as there was in Flash Lite), it just "zooms" in so that it fits the screen (though it doesn't always work).
Adobe also changed it so holding your finger on the screen = mouseover now, rather than a click right when you first touch down.
got it! thanks.. works pretty well for now... fullscreen would be nice

Yep, if you double tap the Hulu video, it will only "center" it on the screen.
The Full Screen button on the Hulu Player works but it is VERY difficult to hit.
But I've figured out a "strategy" (haha):
- Scroll down the page so the video is no longer showing, and zoom in three times via the +/- buttons.
- Then scroll back up so the bottom right corner of the video shows.
- Tap on the video to get "into" the flash (so finger presses are registered in the video player).
- Then tap and hold on the video for mouseover, click on the full screen button, and voilà! FULL SCREEN HULU!
From this:
To this:
Is there a way to save these settings for individual sites (like just hulu)? or is this across the board for all sites?

Try "Moboplayer" it is free on the Marketplace. When it is playing, in the bottom Left hand section of the screen there are options to make the display screen smaller - make it bigger i.e. full screen - show as 16:9 - and 4:3. You might have best results by changing the size of your video file by using different encoding methods/programs in your desktop. i.e. "AVS4You" or "Handbrake". In both of those programs you can set the pixel height and width of the final encoded video.

When I select the 'Movies' player, the bar on the bottom goes dark like so, look beneath the red marks i made, there are 4 barely visible dots. I believe this is called Dark Mode, the bar is still there just barely visible.
The problem is there is no menu in the player and no program on my tab called 'Movies'. It's either stock, or came with a file manager.

Subtitles not displaying in HDMI

Like the title states. I tried dice player,.mobo, etc. Anyone know of a fix?
Btw movie is mkv if it matters.

honestly, I do not understand your problem:
-subtitles are displayed correctly on-screen and not on the TV via HDMI ?
-subtitles (inside MKV containers) are not displayed at all, neither on-screen nor on TV?
have you tried external subtitles?
What I mean is, on the a500 the subs are displayed, on the TV they aren't present.
I tried BSplayer in software decoding mode, which worked, but video was very slow & out of sync with audio.
I tried external subs with bsplayer, no success.

hello, i had the same issue because the HDMI output is somehow a cropped version of the tablet display. the Lower part is cropped and hence subtitle are not displayed on the TV. Good news is there is a trick to overcome this issue: if you use mx video player there is an option to resyncrhonize the subtitle. when you use this options subtitles are displayed a bit higher in the frame and are not cropped out any more on the TV display. Hope this will help.

I just flashed back to Thor's honeycomb ROM v14.2, this subtitle bug is not present so it was an ICS issue. hopefully when Thor incorporates the leaked drivers & etc into his build of ics, these issues will be fixed.

any known workarounds?
It's a known bug. Please vote(star).
Same issue across all players on Asus TF700T / ICS and H/W decoding.
