Can't debrand using gold card - Desire HD General

Hi guys, I currently have the Desire HD on Orange. Sadly branded and very bloated (the phone takes a minute to boot which is annoying as i know its meant to be a lot faster than that) I'm currently on software 1.40.61.2
Anyway I'm attempting to debrand it, i've created a gold card which seems to work nicely
I've tried flashing the latest RUU HTC firmware "RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.6_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed" but i'm getting the error message "ERROR [140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR)"
Any way to get past this? If not do I have to root my phone to do it?
Many thanks

try using this PD98IMG.zip
http://www.multiupload.com/Y8IDBBTVR9
place on to sdcard and switch off phone
then hold and press power button and volume down button
then follow on screen instrustions
the zip file is wwe 1.32.405.x ruu
hope that works

Sorry to double post but I've sorted it now using a downgrade method (which also debranded my phone) awesome
Heres the guide for anybody who may need it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
Edit: Many thanks cattleprod, thats the alternative method i just used. The HTC firmware is much better than the Orange one

In my opinion you can try the folowing:
- Remove sim and memory card and do a hard reset (with phone off , keep holding down the volume up and volume down keys and press power button, release all butons then press volume up again to restore manufacrurer deaults)
- Try to enter in boot mode (with phone off , keep holding the volume down and press power button) then flah again your phone
- If none of these helps and you can't find the original rom then use the GOLDCARD method. So make yourself a goldcard (serch the forum and you will find how to do that), boot your phone into flash mode with goldcard inside and you will be able to flash any original rom to your device

1. you download the stock rom of your choice (Stock Roms include Radio)
2. Copy the ruu_signed.nbh file to your storage Root and rename to LEOIMG.nbh
3. Fire Up your Leo by pressing power on+vol down untill bootloader comes
4. if all goes well it will ask you to press power on to flash your device
5. do what it says
when finished hard reset (by pressing red button in back or power on+vol up+vol down)
then you should be fine and on your boring stock way again

youve been given the same answer now in several threads. Its probably time to give us more information. because the answer we have all given you is the only way to remove hspl.
So, since you keep saying it wont work, it can only be either
1 a problem with the sd card
2 a problem with the sd card socket on your phone
or
3 a problem with the leoimg.nbh image you are using.
so, question 1 - is your phone rom locked to the provider? (can you download roms from the htc website using your correct serial number?)
question 2 - when you are formatting teh sd card, are you formatting it inside the phone or in your pc?
Closed - duplicate thread.

Tmobile HTC HD2 BOOTLOADER

hello, i was hoping someone could help me with this. I am trying to load the Android system on my phone. But it says i have to install the HSPL (HardSPL) on the phone first. I tried to do that but it asks to review the version of SPL on my phone by holding down the volume down key and check the version on the bootloader but it doesnt come up. I tried isntalling the HSLP and the HSLP2 package on this site... and didnt work. I was wondering if someone could help me on this... This phone is super glitchy and wish i can get it working a bit better. Thank you guys.

What instructions for Android are you reading? None of the real versions need HSPL at all...they all load using HaRET, an app that goes on your SD card. If you see instructions to use HSPL to get Android on your HD2, it's clearly one of the fake ones that was floating around.
Check out the thread below for all the current details on the real deal:

You have to reset your phone and HOLD the VOLUME DOWN and POWER at the same time and you will be able to check your SPL version.
Same Problem
I am having the same problem i can't get into bootlader by holding down the power button and volume down button tried and tried and tried again and all it does is come up and show the same old tmobile splash screen and from my memory of doing this before you don't see that when going into bootloader it just automatically goes into bootlader .. my question is how possible is the brick possbility of doing hardspl4
Well seeing as how majority of us do not report any situation of us bricking our phones due to flashing HSPL, I can say the possibility is almost non existent, that is if you're part of the norm of this society.
Are you sure you're holding vol down before you power up your device? Do your volume keys work with winmo/android/WP7?

HTC HD2 6.5 to Android back to 6.5 or 7?

I got this phone on Ebay because I am poor. It was a T Mobile unlocked that was changed to Android. I can't get rid of the old user name and don't have the password for the Android market account set up on this phone. I can't do a factory reset and I need help. I would prefer to put 7 on it but I would be happy putting 6.5 back. Android would do if I could reset the user account. I do hope someone can help me. I am not very technically gifted but I can follow easy instructions. Please help me.
Judy
Because you are new at this I suggest flashing the stock T Mobile from your SD card. It is the simplest and safest thing to do.
You may need the Serial and IMEI numbers located under the phones battery.
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32
2. Go to T Mobile web site and download the rom. It will ask for you IMEI number this makes sure the rom is for your mobile.
3. Unzip/unrar the downloaded file into a folder on your PC
4. Rename the RUU_signed.nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh
5. Copy the LEOIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
6. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
7. Reset the device while pressing the volume down button to enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
8. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
9. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
What if you want to flash it without using the SD card? I flashed android using NAND but I want to put WM 6.5 back.

I think doing it with the SD card is only way to get back to 6.5.
You could always boot into the boot loader by holding the up volume and power key then flash a 6.5 Rom.

Everyone has forgotten to find out what device this is, t mobile are all over the place and some ship 1024MB versions, don't flash anything until you work what you need, flashing incorrect tmobile roms could give you a really bad day and an expensive paperweight
I tried the data cable first and it won't sync with active sync because it is at this time android. It just isn't recognized as anything but a usb storage device. Then I tried the card. I put all the files on the card according to the directions and hit the volume down button and the power button and nothing happens. I then have to remove the battery to turn it back on. The screen that comes up when I first start the phone is dark forces team. There has to be a way to do this.
You have to be holding vol down before u even press the power button, then press the power button simultaneously. U should see a tri-color screen then connect your usb to pc and flash the 6.5 ROM
Make sure u start with the phone off

I had a few attempts before I got it so try again.
It worked for me with a 16GB card.
Turn off your mobile.
Hold the Volume Down and End Call (power) buttons at the same time.
When "Searching" appears on the screen, release the Volume Down button.
This guide may help. But ignore the things about custom ROM’s and HSPL for now.

ok, there are two versions of the HD2, one with 512MB one with 1024MB, some t-mobile US phones (TMOUS) have 1024MB, if you ge the wrong ROM you could potentially bugger your device
for instance, flash a ROM with a unsupported radio on your device than game over....potentially
if you have a TMOUS 1024MB HD2
flash to .51 radio an its screwed
flash to .50 radio an its ok, except 2.05.50.x radio which will screw it
and stick to TMOUS ROMS as well
if you have the regular world wide version we can flash to what ever we like
its important to find out what someone is using before recomending them to flash any WM6.5 ROM because if by chance that ROM contains an incorrect radio version for that hardware then its game over.

just bout a tmo hd2 with ics can u help me get it to stock

guys i just bought a hd2 and it have android ics on it,
but i really wanna get it back to stock,
im been doing some search and found out that i have to download windows mobile device cente 6.1 ok i did but when i try to install it on my windows 7 it says This installation package is not supported by this processor type, contact your product vendor.
and i notice that i need this program even if i wanna flash another rom,
now i am running windows 7 parallels on my mac do you guys think that is the problem?
i dont kno guys but i dont want ics on this phone please can somebody help me out?
im new to this phone and done some search several times dont blame me this was my last alternative
never mind, found out the i was downloading the 32 bit and i have 64 bit
that won't help you get the phone to stock, you will also need the rom image from T-mobile and you can get that here:
http://dl.htc.com/ruudownload/t-mobileUS/Filedownload.aspx?pid=leo
WMDC is used in place of active sync and you need active sync to get the flash process started.
That's odd when installed my HD2 onto my PC the first time I was able to get WMDC straight from MS when i prompted me to download the software for my device....
you can turn the phone off hold the volume up and down then hold the red button for 5 seconds
Download the latest ROM from official TMO site for your device. Open file with zip or winrar, find file RUU_signed.nbh Put this file on sd card, rename it in LEOIMG.nbh enter bootloader (turn off the phone, hold the VOLDOWN button and press POWER button, the phone will enter the so called mattres mode and detect the leoimg file on sd, and then it will ask you "if you want to install rom press power button, if no - press voldown") Thats all!
Just bare in mind you'll need to reflash spl, magldr etc.
