Answers: MicroSDHC, video rec., ext. hard drive, Sniffer - Adam General

Hi. I email my question to Notion Ink yesterday, and today they replied me. Here is the email:
Greetings from the Notion Ink Support Team!
1. Can we plug in headset to Notion Ink Adam? Yes
2. What is the resolution and fps of video recording of Adam? resolution 640 x 480 and fps of 15 fps.
3. Can we plug 1TB hard drive to it? We are not too sure if a HD of that size would show up.
4. Can we disable the ambient light sensor if we want? Yes.
5. Sniffer shows 1 USB drive even a USB drive doesn’t plugged. However, we have 2 USB port. What if we plug 2 USB flash drive at a time, will it work? Will Sniffer shows both of them? No, it would only work and show 1 device.
6. Can leaves work in the portrait mode? No
7. Will Notion Ink come with screen protector or not? Yes, the Adam will come with a screen protector.
Thank you for your continued support to Notion Ink!
Warm Regards
Jon
Notion Ink Support Team
I also learned that Notion Ink Adam supports MicroSDHC upto 128 GB.
Hope I could help for others who has those questions in their mind

I wouldn't be incorrect for the person who reply to you but
Adam CAN'T support SHDC up to 128 Gb because SDHC specifications limits SDHC to 32 Gb look there : http://www.sdcard.org/developers/tech/sdhc/
It seems that Support doesn't have been brief correctly

Yes, I think you are right. Also obiviously it is not SDHC, that is my mistake, sorry I read in notionink.wordpress.com. Somebody asked them about microSD card support, due to his saying that, Notion Ink wrote him, Adam has 128GB microSD card support. This is maybe SDXC, I don't know. Or maybe they designed the software for that way. However, I do ony care is it supports Lexar 32 GB MicroSDHC Class 10

some infor I found online, interesting.
there is no doubt they far outrank every single phone out there in so many ways!
#1 - Screen; 100,000:1 compared to iPhone4's 800:1 Real World contrast ratio. But it's the response time that kicks every phone on the planet to the curb being 0.01ms. Which is as close to instantaneous as you can get. Especially compared to iPhone4's snail response time of 25ms. Why is this so important? Because these phones are NOT eReaders!
If you want a over rated ereader, then iP4 is your best choice. If what you want is a Multimedia Phone then Samsung's Super AMOLED is your BEST CHOICE. Play games or watch action movies? Super AMOLEAD!
http://cfile27.uf.tistory.com/original/140B801A4C183C762FE807
(note: the original page this graph is from destroys the myth of higher pixel density. It explains that in the fall when 2.2 Android is available for Galaxy Series phones SVG vectored fonts (resolution free 300dpi) and higher dpi icons will shed a new light on the subject. Also it relates to the sweet spot view distance for the screen size)
#2 - Samsung makes 50% of the cost of all parts in iPhone4. In so doing, they've strived to put better parts into their own phones while Apple went CHEAP. Hummingbird blows Apple A4 away merely by having the full Arm Neon Multimedia Engine and OS support programed into Android. But not fully deployed until Android 2.2. On top of that you have the first time the SGX540 GPU has been put in a device. It can display 3x what the iP4 or any other phone out can at 90million Triangles/p/sec and with that Super AMOLED screen, when 2.2 comes out it'll get all phones to the curb.
#3 - Samsung has the newest and best radios out. Compared to any other device. First phone to have WiFi Direct b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 (10x speed of iP4's BT2.1), DLNA Media Server and w/ Android 2.2 full OS support for all these. 3G/4G Baseband Radio w/ Full VOIP (Voice/Video) supported radio. Meaning when Google/GIPS HD Video Conferencing is released for Galaxy, they will have Facetime's Engine running on hardware capable of using it over 3G/4G (btw Facetime is running GIPS Engine). Galaxy has TV-Video Out via it's headphone jack. Cameras both have Smile and Face detection. 5mp camera has outstanding low light capability and again when 2.2 comes out dramatic changes will come into use with it's ambient light sensing abilities and auto backside lighting effects. Adobe is expanding the features of it's Photoshop Mobile for Android. Of course there is more on the way in features that are hidden at this time, but you've made a great choice if you own one of these Galaxy Series Phones!!!
Another one
[email protected] It's in the combo radio, but I'm not sure that it's active until Android 2.2 update for support. If not then it'll get the update in the fall. That's what I gathered from a Korean site. That support was coming and that some surprises having to do with high res fonts and icon in an update soon. That would show off the Super AMOLED's Resolution (a swipe at Retina, because it's the 300dpi fonts Apple's using that are making it look sharper for reading along w/ extremely high dpi icons. Compared to Android's low res icons and low dpi non SVG converted to SVG fonts (for vectored Resolution Free fonts).
I've seen other mentions of the radio referred to as FM RDS so that would mean something about it being capable of receiving road construction bulletins, etc.

This is Broadcom page on the part number from the tear down:
http://www.broadcom.com/products/Bluetooth/Bluetooth-RF-Silicon-and-Software-Solutions/BCM20751
Samsung Galaxy Series phones are the first to receive this WiFi Direct capable SoC and some interesting things are coming from other features in it too.
FM Radio w/RDS and FM Recording as well in Wave. So Bada supports more features than Android does as yet. Same chis in both though!
http://www.careace.net/2010/06/08/comparison-of-iphone-4-vs-samsung-wave-and-samsung-galaxy-s/
Note: All Action Graphics, Games, etc in the future are going to look far better on Super AMOLED Galaxy than iPhone or any other LCD or AMOLED Screen. Because of the super fast response time and contrast ratio and the fact NO IPS LCD has a chance in hell of competing with it. iPhone's abysmal 25ms is more like the first desktop LCD screens in speed. Fast action Games & Video will ghost and display irregularly. Especially since the Galaxy has been designed for the future w/ that 3x the display capability of iPhones SGX535 GPU at 90million Triangles/per/sec rendering speeds. Which is the reason it can put up HD 720p graphics over WiFi Direct DLNA or BlueTooth 3.0 DLNA to your HDTV. This is the reason they did not bother putting in an HDMI out port. Also because HDMI restricts graphics w/ HDCP. DLNA doesn't restrict anything being a wireless broadcast in the first place and being both Wifi 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz (unlike iPhone4, etc's 2.4ghz ONLY)!
My plan is to buy either the DirectTV Google Box or the Logitech GoogleTV Box. They are going to be WiFi Direct (I believe dual band as well). Along with Bluetooth 3.0 DLNA capable. This feature can auto Sync and because of it's extremely fast speed (faster than Wifi G or N) and low 6 to 30ft range it will not conflict with any other signals. Bluetooth 3.0 DLNA is the FUTURE!
Sorry, Long time lurker first time poster. There seems to be alot of misinformation in the previous two posts feel free to correct me as well...

I don't know about the others but the Vibrant does NOT have an extra 2GB of memory for apps. The internal memory reserved for apps is subtracted from the 16GB of internal storage. I believe it is something like 1.8Gb for apps/14.2GB storage. Therefore it does have a maximum of 48GB of storage.

Might want to rethink your plan as Bluetooth 3.0 is not faster than either G or N. It has a maximum theoretical speed of up to 24Mbs.

Probably because it's riddled with typo's, grammar errors, and excessive punctuation?
Also, the storage is "16gb", but in reality you have 1.9gb apps storage, 13.18gb of internal storage, and you lose about 1gb to formatting and marketing (the whole binary vs decimal thing that occurs with computer hard drives affects this device too).

Also, the storage is "16gb", but in reality you have 1.9gb apps storage, 13.18gb of internal storage, and you lose about 1gb to formatting and marketing (the whole binary vs decimal thing that occurs with computer hard drives affects this device too).

Has, that's funny! I agree. give it few seconds to adjust its colors, and it is very well visible, even in direct sunlight.

Nikon RAW format images?

I'm a photographer, and want to use the Nexus 7 to look at and display images for clients to ok and a prove photos. Is there a way to connect a full size SD card into a 7 and read RAW files?

You will have to get a OTG cable (a few dollars) and either root the device and install StickMount, or use one of the ones method that don't need rooting (which I believe are read-only)
well. there are several threads talking about the OTG USB Cable, so you need one of those and obviously anything like a card reader.
Depending on what Nikon Camera you are using, you might consider the Setting if a second cardslot is available to shoot in Raw on first card, as well as JPG on the second one. Just to compare pictures on a bigger screen - like sharpness, posing etc, doesn't require to be in RAW at all. ( D600, D7000 got 2 slots for example ).
Another way would be using Eye-Fi Cards, but as far as i read several reviews, the speed and reliability of those cards are a matter for themself.
My advise:
Setup your camera to shoot raw and jpg (basic) will do.
buy OTG dongle on amazon or ebay for 1-5$
buy smallest cardreader available ( you can chose between sd card or microsd + adapter ( micro sd cardreader are very tiny obviously )
shoot photos
connect otg and cardreader to nexus, insert card, and review pictures (jpg)
Hope this works, Cheers.

Read only should be enough to just review the pictures on a bigger size screen.
If your camera has its own USB cord for transferring to a comouter . You might be able just to plug it into the nexus 7 with a otgcable and for me it auto launches the gallery and displays the picture

You're having a giraffe aren't you ?
You don't say which camera body you're using or in what scenario.
Studio? Your options are many. Location? Less so. Wi-Fi? Depends on how techy you are.
I've used those pocket sized wi-fi routers in the past with some success and many issues.
Shoot raw+ small jpeg, transfer the jpegs to the N7 using USB OTG (root required) and choose from one of the many gallery apps on the market.
Might want to go for a 10" tablet as the 7" is a bit small for anything but checking composition.
No way yet to calibrate the display for colour fidelity, either.
Have you tried contact sheets a chinagraph and a loupe
I am using dslrdashboard having my Nikon D80 connected via OTG to my Nexus. Principally I can do shoots initiated by the Nexus. there is only one disadvantage at the moment: the images cannot be zoomed when being displayed on the screen.

Get Photomate on the Google play, its supports most raw formats, and is amazing..
I use Rawpal Gallery Lite to view the raw photos from my Nikon D3100. Then if I want to lightly edit (im no professional) and share them I save them to my tablet and make the edits with Photo Mate Professional. I would simply use the latter app to view and import the photos but I cant find where my camera mount on my tab. I should mention that I connect my camera directly to the tablet with a standard mini usb cable and a utg cable.
Great! I just wanted to check if I could do this before I buy one.
I'll be using it in the field and its really just for check that the photo is focused and composition. I'll probly just use a cable and shoot in RAW and JPEG. Im using a D90 and it will let me do that. Thank for all the info and options.

30 years ago it was all film and dim viewfinders. Somehow, we managed.
Somehow managed with upside down viewfinders on medium format, too.
Trust me, it was a lot easier then

Galaxy Note 4 Internal SD Speed - Wow

Hey guys, just ran some sd card benchmarks and came up with these figures. I was blown away by how fast the internal speeds are.
Read - 222.12 MB/S
Write - 124.06 MB/S
Compared to the external this is a lot faster than I expected. Are these speeds the norm or does the Note 4 have an extremely fast sd? For comparison, I get 37.70 MB/S read and 15.93 MB/S on external sd.
What program are you using for benchmarking? I got a Samsung Pro micro sd coming, but if the external is locked at that speed, I may have to save my camera video to internal first. Especially with UHD video.

4k on the Note 4 doesn't even record at 10MB/s, there really isn't any need to switch it to internal.
Unfortunately I occasionally got video stuttering recording 1080p on my Note 3 with a SanDisk Class 10. Isn't the stated rate from Samsung an average? If so, there may be bursts that go over the ext card's write rate.

did you try recording to the internal memory on your note 3?
I'd like to know which app you were using too for testing, I used SD Tools and I really can't believe the numbers I'm getting are real, they're liks SSD speeds! When my phone was freshly rooted, it would be upwards of 800MB/s for read/write. Now, it's slowed to under 250MB/s - read and under 700MB/s - write. Both storage devices were close in speeds.
Downloaded a new benchmarking tool. Looks more realistic now...
Internal - R>211 MB/s W>132 MB/s
External - R>58 MB/s W>20 MB/s
I got the Samsung Pro 64Gb because I really wanted the speed for video reording and playback, but this is no where near the speeds I was expecting. I'm tempted to factory reset my phone so it's just a fresh root and no other mods done to it and see if it improves. I feel like after installing Xposed, it's killed my performance.
This is the program I used. It's called A1 SD Bench

UHD, QHD ,FHD Recording / SD CARD or Storage

Hi Guys, congrats to every new S7 Edge owners !!!
1 ) I'm kinda confuse over which mode to actually use ....visually its kinda hard to tell the difference on my QHD notebook and not entirely sure if it's worth recording in QHD.
Can anyone advice if it's worth giving up UHD recording over the use of video stabilizer mode in S7 Edge ?
2)There's once or twice i notice while recording when panning/turning the phone there's a slight jerk, or scene lag or frame skip.....doesnt really happen very offen and it's usually less than a sec but yet i find noticeable.
Could it be that i'm saving it to my SD Card instead of device and the write speed is not fast enough? I'm using Sandisk MicroSD 200gb card
Some advice or tips would be greatly appreicated.
You're only giving up soft stabilization, ois is still working at 4k.
That sdcard only writes at around 15mb/sec, should be quick enough even for 4k, does it happen when recording at 1080p?
Oh so it's only software stabilisation..... Thanks for the info, I try recording at fhd,
I did some further testing recording at 1080p 60 FPS, I notice there's still some slight stuttering when I'm panning the camera while recording.........
