I'm running Dexter's mod. When the A7 goes to sleep, it loses its wifi connection at wake up.
I have to go into "Wireless and network settings" to turn wireless on, and then the A7 gets stuck in the "scanning..." mode, even though I have a real good, strong wifi signal.
I toggle the on/off wifi several times (about 2-3 minutes of playing), and eventually the A7 sees all the available signals and connects immediately to my home network...
I really want to stop trying tablets, but the A7 is really testing my resolve.
This has happened to most everyone that flashes Dexter's mod. It has to do with wpa_supplicant though honestly I don't know the root of it.
Another forum member replaced the file with the original that shipped on the device after he had market enabled and the problem stopped happening and he retained market access.
I'm running 1.0b and haven't had the issue since I flashed it.
Have you installed Dexter's ad-hoc hack? that causes this problem to aggravate. If you have the wlan and wpa-supplicant files from 1.0c (System/bin) you will be fine..
I am running Dexter's 1.0c and upon re-awakening, it connects right back up with no problems. The only issue I have is not being able to keep the wi-fi connected when the unit goes to sleep. I don't want to keep the screen on 100% of the time as this really sucks the battery down fast. I have tried 5-6 apps that are supposed to fix this, but so far no luck. Anyone else been able to keep the wi-fi connected when the tablet goes off?
I had the same issue until I changed to this supplicant. Now no problems.

Thanks, Craig118. Did you have to install the same as Dexter's mod and wipe all data, or does it install without deleting files?
Just copy and paste that wpa_supplicant into your sys/bin folder. That was all I needed to fix mine. Two weeks now with no sleep /wake issues.

I have copied the Supplicant.zip file onto a USB stick and have tried to copy to the system/bin folder but keep getting an error message that file cannot be copied. My /sys folder does not have a bin subfolder. Any suggestions? I have copied files from this same USB previously.
Have now copied onto my sd card, and still get the message cannot copy file. Anyone have any suggestions?
Are you using root explorer? You have to change it to read/write in order to overwrite the file.
I am using the standard OI file manager on the machine.......
That app. will not work. You need superuser permissions to change sys files. Download/Install Root explorer and use it to copy the file your sys/bin folder (must click on write).

Hello, I'm having an issue, I'm rooted with the nand unlock method. I was on flipz .1d but have now moved to .2. I've had this issue a number of times now specificly the "unable to turn on" which seems to be caused by the owner of the /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf file changing to root. but I am not sure what causes the unable to scan for networks to happen.
Some of the things I have done that seem to be a part of the cause: I ran flipz vanilla lock screen fix and I team douche menu unlock, both seem to make changes to /system/framework/
anyone that might know where to look to fix the scan issue? I've searched the forum and have seen a few people have the problem but no solutions yet.

I got a hint from code.google.com (can't post the link). I renamed the /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf to /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.bak (rather than delete it), rebooted and all is well.
Seems you can just delete the file, and it'll be respawned on a reboot.
I am having this problem, but on a vibrant that has not been rooted yet.
I cant seem to find the wpa_supplicant.conf, I have tried browsing for it using the built in file manager and using ASTRO, but the data directory is always empty.
Is there a way to fix this without rooting the phone?
if your phone has not been rooted then that means your phone is f**ked up and might need to be exchanged. but this is the evo forum not vibrant. the only way to mess with system files is to be rooted

It just recreates the file when your phone gets rebooted. My Thunderbolt is having the EXACT same issue. Ive tried renaming this and deleting as well and still no luck. Im now kicking over any rocks that I can find to get my wifi working.
I have exactly the same problem.
With Root Explorer deleted the file 'wpa_supplicant.conf' but no changes.
WiFi starts up and closes down again with the famous line: "unable to scan for networks"

I actually ended up having to get a whole new phone. My insurance company couldnt fix it.

I had the same problem. I installed the software from the sony erikcon website to my computer, and then followed the process for updating the phone software. That did not work, since I had the latest software already. So then, I tried to REPAIR my phone software, and after that was done, my phone was functional again, and the wifi works without any problems.
Requirements:
* A PC connected to the Internet (preferably broadband)
* USB phone-to-PC connection. Please see the accessories compatibility list for your phone.
1. Run the software on the computer after it is installed.
2. Follow the procedure for UPDATE or REPAIR (if you already have the latest version).

One more question to you guys - when I connect a USB flash stick to my Iconia, it flashes its LED a lot. I copy what I need using Astro or whatever and want to remove it. However, I noticed that if I remove the stick while its LED is still flashing (= it's still in use), the tablet will not wake up on the first power-button press after it goes to sleep for the first time after this unplugging and that it won't recognize the USB stick anymore before I restart the tablet. The only way around this, I found, is to wait for the ~2sec window of LED not flashing to remove the stick. Anyone else had this issue? And if so, how do you get around it? Is there a way to unmount the flash drive easily? Perhaps a widget or so?

I noticed the same thing when using an USB. I just wait until it stops rapid flashing before removing.

If i leave my USB flash drive in the device and go on hibernation mode, the next time I wake it up the USB flash drive will keep flashing as if it is reading the drive. As it turns out, it is actually deleting files. I've run several tests to confirm this. Has anyone else had this issue? It's impossible to get a hold of Acer tech support.

I have been having a similar problem with my A500 seemingly deleting files. I have been using File Manager HD to transfer files between my external SD, internal SD, and my USB flash drive. I began noticing files disappearing during transfers to or from the USB drive, or ending up empty sometimes when they would paste into a new location.
I had an occurrence recently moving an MKV file from internal storage over to the USB. In the middle of the transfer the File Manager HD screen went blank, then showed my USB drive as empty. I exited out of that and came back, it showed all the files back in the USB, except the new video file was showing 0kb in size. It had lost the entire file during the transfer, and it was no longer in the original location internally. This leads me to believe it may not be an issue with the USB, but with File Manager HD. (So far I have lost 3 complete seasons of Big Bang Theory as well as many movies and personal work documents.)
I began running transfer tests using Root Explorer and so far I have had 0 issues similar to those encountered with File Manager HD. I have moved several MKV and other files back and forth at will with Root Explorer and so far, 100% success.
I would recommend if you are using File Manager HD, tread lightly for the time being to see if that may be your issue as well. Or just move important files with Root Explorer.
For the flashing issue - some flash drives don't have a light (we'll ignore them).
Other have a light that's ON all the time, as if to show it's got power (bloody useless!)
Others flash their light when the drive is being accessed (read/write).
If your drive flashes, it's safe to assume you should NOT take it out - something is accessing the files, either reading, cataloguing, or writing.
I don't know is the A500, or HC, caches writes like windows does, but it MIGHT, and pulling the drive when it's flushing the cache will KILL the file (Probably both - the file being moved from and the destination file as well).
You guys/gals need to catchup on (?) in the DEV section more often

the previous update didn't kill the tablet because it was rooted. And always have the option to unroot before taking an update, if you want to be extra precautious.
or just wait till Acer fixes the issue..

having root does NOT prevent updates... only when you go and renamed or deletes system files...etc
Recently upgraded to 1.2 using MN 4.5.18 and I've been reading how the supplicant is different. Does any one now of a working patch or process to get this working again?

down load wpa_supplicant.adhocfix.
Backup current system/bin/wpa_supplicant
rename wpa_supplicant.adhockfix to wpa_supplicant
replace current file with new file.
Reboot.
You should see adhoc connections at this point. There is 1 bug though, once your unit goes to sleep, the wifi needs to be reset once woken up.
I found a program that you can download for free from the market that worked for me, that resets the connection automatically after wake-up. "blade wifi fix"

this trick found from another thread
you need a rooted phone & root explorer
1. Unzip the file attached here (wpa_supplicant.zip) and send wpa_supplicant to your phone.
2. Using Root Explorer go to the folder were you save it (wpa_supplicant) and copy the file.
3. Using Root Explorer, enter the /system folder and press the Mount W/R button (upper right corner)
4. Now go to /system/bin and backup your current wpa_supplicant, and paste the new one.
5. Set permissions to wpa_supplicant like attached picture, then go back to /system and press Mount R/O (upper right corner, so you leave everything exactly like it was) and reboot. Done. Enjoy AD-HOC!

I can see the ah hoc network established from my laptop now.. but when I try to connect, it stays in a state "Obtaining IP address" .. so cannot access internet anyway .. Is there any workaround? Thanks.

excellent, previously i was using connectify to connect my phone to Laptop but the signal strength was so poor and also after few mins it is used to go down. Now got rid of the problem using this file.

Working in free and WEP modes.
But there were problems with WinXP configuration.
(In wifi network first have myself to connect to created adhoc network, only then phone sees adhoc network)
Galaxy Note's WIFI VERY unstable after replacing wpa_suppliant.
I wanted to connect my galaxy note to my iPad's Mywi for wifi (ad hoc) connection.
Thus i did the following steps:
- root galaxy note using zergrush
- downloaded xda's replacement wpa_suppliant
- downloaded root explorer
- uploaded the replacement wpa_suppliant file to the phone and replaced the original one at /systems/bin
After this, my phone was able to connect to iPad's Mywi, BUT connection is VERY unstable and gets disconnected every 5-10mins. Also it takes really long to get it connected back, like about 10-15mins for it to try to get connected.
I've tried re-doing the WHOLE of the steps above, INCLUDING re-rooting my phone, but to no avail. My Wifi function was working perfectly fine prior to this.
Can some kind souls out there please advice me if I've done anything wrong in my steps? Or if there's any way to solve this (WITHOUT re-doing it back to the original)? thanks!

Set permissions to wpa_supplicant like attached picture? Which permissions? Can you upload that pic again or just tell us what to mark, owner group others? read write execute? And from special permissions: Set UID, Set GID, Sticky?
By default at my stock wpa_supplicant permissions are set and marked like: Owner=mark at read, write and execute, Group=mark at read and execute,
Others=mark at read and execute. None of special permissions are marked.
Should it be the same for new copied wpa_supplicant or?

Just one little question here. I hope someone takes time to answer it. I have been around reading about adhoc this and adhoc that. But what I wanna know if these methodes that enable adhoc functionality, allow 2 mobile devices to get connected to each other. I mean like between 2 SGSII not between a PC and a SGSII?
Like making one of the SGSIIs the center and the other client (or infrastructure or whatever it's called)?? Is this possible with all these adhoc enablers?

Since a few days I have a (known) wifi-error. I was using an early version of NDT_MIUI_GINGER (version 3 or something like that). It always functioned perfect (wifi included), but then, from one to another, the wifi didn't work anymore. When I turn wifi on, it says 'turing on' and after a few seconds it stops and says 'error'. After that I tried a couple of things (reboot, change channels, clear cache, change ROM), I even did a clean install (with also a formatted SD-card) of TyphooN_CM7_v3.4.1 that i'm using now. The wifi-error just stays.
So now I am using [MAG/cLK]TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 Nightly v3.4.1[2.3.4][A2SD][tytung r10] (MAGLDR-version). I think the solution of the 'broken' wifi is mentioned in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827521
So I probably need to remove the file bcm_supp.conf. Therefore I need to use the file explorer in DDMS, but the file-explorer stays blank. It seems that some ROMS are linked to busybox where they should be linked to toolbox for DDMS. I guess TyphooN_CM7_v3.4.1 is linked to busybox too.
How can I use the file explorer in DDMS so I can remove the 'bcm_supp.conf'-file?
